Tokyo Sumo Wrestling Tournament

Tokyo, Japan

Don't miss the opportunity to see a traditional Sumo tournament when you're in Tokyo. You'll take the subway with fellow Sumo fans to the Kokugikan (Sumo Amphitheater) and enjoy a traditional Sumo wrestling tournament. You'll also visit the fascinating Sumo Museum to see Sumo-related objects from the Edo period to the present.

At the amphitheater you'll experience a Dohyo-iri (entering the ring) ceremony and see exciting Sumo matches from your B-class reserved seat on the second floor. English commentary via audio headphones is available. The Sumo match will last approximately 2.5-hours, after you will have dinner at a local chanko restaurant (if option selected), where you can enjoy the traditional food of Sumo wrestlers.

Please note: Your guide will meet you at the ticket gates at the Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal and escort you to the museum and tournament, and then later to the restaurant for dinner. The guide will not join you for dinner.

A great afternoon and evening out with a guide who was able to fully explain the 'in's and out's' of sumo wrestling. I'm now a real sumo fan', following this ancient sport is giving me great pleasure. Thank you Viator Tours!

Great day, your local guide (Takki) was fantastic and provided really good information about the event. Transport to the event worked really well. I would recommend anyone in Japan during a Sumo tournament to use your services. Thank you.

The event was wonderful and our guide was knowledgeable and helpful. The only drawback was the meeting set-up. It was difficult to find the guide even though we were early.

Absolutely brilliant! This was both my wife's and my birthday, and we could not have wished for a better joint birthday present. The tour organisation was superb, everything happened on time, and we were well looked after for every moment by the guide. An awesome event in every respect.

I used to watch sumo on tv as a kid and mess around replicating it with my brother (not in nappies though). Superb day out very interesting. Guide is essential for knowledge of fighters and a general gist of what it's all about.

Highly reccommend checking out a Sumo tournament if your in Japan at the right time of year. My partner & i had an awesome time, the sumo bouts were fast and intense. Having our english speaking guide there to explain rules and the current ladder of champions was really helpful and added to the experience. Our guide was clearly a massive sumo fan! We spend 2 wks in Japan and loved every bit of it, sumo was one of our favorite things of all. I will definately attend sumo again next time im in Japan!

We reconfirmed tour however, they still failed to pick us up. We travelled by taxi to their office (which they paid for) and then departed from there. It was a walking tour by train, not clear when we booked. Also, it's only a one way tour (find your own way home). The tour guide's english was quite poor.

The Sumo Tour is one not to be missed. The ceremony, excitement and thrills kept us entertained throughout. Having an English speaking guide gave us the lowdown on what was going on and, as an added bonus, a spectator in the row behind us gave us the play by play. We are now definitley Sumo fans.

The Sumo Wrestling Championship was the highlight of our trip, we loved every minute of it, however, the tournament is an all day event and the tour limits the hours of attendance. This was disappointing as we are really "sumo fans".

Excellent way to see the Sumo Wrestling Tournament. No hassles with queuing for tickets. Small group about 8 or 10 of us. Guide was very knowledgeable. Seats were quite high up in Arena but we could still see everything clearly. Had earphones with English translation of what was happening during tournament. Once in a lifetime experience for myself and two sons aged 9 and 14.

I and my 17 year old daughter had a great time, much more than I expected. The afternoon flew by and sumo was really easy to follow and enjoy. The booking in was chaotic due to numbers on tour but making own way to start point and home again from the Stadium was easy. I highly recommend it as an activity while in Tokyo. Sure you can buy your own tickets and hire the English radio broadcast at a lower price but with much more mucking around.

The tour guide was really good and had perfect English. She took time out to explain clearly the history and rules of Sumo before the tour commenced. Wrestling was good but should be noted that the final days of each competition are best because that's when the top ranked wrestlers come out, but overall it must be experienced!

This was a fantastic deal, the hotel pick-up made it so easy to find and we didn't worry at all about getting lost. The sumo tournament was very interesting, very much a 'local' experience. We felt like we saw something that many other travelers don't get a chance to see. Very recommended.

The price is almost double to take the tour vs. paying for a ticket at the door, but it's still worth it! Having a guide take you to the museum and explain the artifacts and having her there to answer all the questions you have during the bouts are well worth it! We had a great time!

What an experience! The tournament was fantastic, the seats were perfect, and our guide was very informative. We knew nothing about Sumo before going on this tour, and now I'm hooked! We had excellent transfers to and from the arena, and using the trains was an fantastic experience also. Booking on line was very easy, and the Viator group kept as very well informed as to the progress of our booking confirmation. We will definitely consult first with Viator the next time we're planning a holiday.

I had a great time. I thought I would have liked better seats, but the ones given were just fine. The information given was a great help to understand sumo in general, as well as who was fighting who and what their rank was. Excellent!
