Salzburg Day Trip from Vienna

Vienna, Austria

While in Vienna don't miss your chance to visit Austria's other great city, Salzburg - home of Mozart and beautiful Mirabell Gardens and Palace. Travel through the stunning Austrian alps and lakes on this fantastic day trip to Salzburg. The tour includes guided walking tour of the city of Salzburg.

Traveling to Mozart's town of birth you'll be enchanted by the beautiful Salzkammergut landscape with its mountains and lakes, and where the Emperor Franz Joseph and his family used to spend their holidays. Skirting the Lake Fuschl and Lake Wolfgang you will reach Salzburg, where you will have free time for lunch.

Discover Salzburg with an afternoon walking tour through the old city. Your guide will show you the most important sights of the old Bishop's Seat including the Cathedral, the Festival Hall, St Peter's Abbey Church and its graveyard (the tomb of Mozart's sister Nannerl).

Among the busy shopping streets you'll see no. 9 Getreidegasse, where the famed Wolfgang Mozart was born and lived until he was 17 years old.

While passing through the gardens of Mirabell Palace you will see the statue of the Pegasus, the winged horse and perhaps here, the song 'Do-Re-Mi' from the movie Sound of Music will come to mind?

On your return journey to Vienna, enjoy great views as your coach passes through Fortress Hohensalzburg, one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. Your tour concludes with a drop off at Vienna State Opera.

I think it is a better idea (and cheaper) to take the train to Salzburg. This tour means approximately 4.5 hour each way (with train is 2.45 hours), including 2 stops of 30-45 minutes in 2 restaurants on the highway and only 4 hours in Salzburg. Also we had to wait for some of the tourists that were always late. As we took this tour in March, the scenery was not impressing at all.

We left on time, the bus was nice and clean. Our tour guide was nice and gave us lots of info. It took too long. and I wanted to stop in some nice area's on the way and we did not since we were part of a tour. We rented a car the next day and went to Budapest. We like that option more. This tour was over priced too.

The trip itself and Salzburg were very nice. However, there was a problem, a three languages tour was guided by a single person. It became very annoying after short period of time.

This trip was great. Very well organized and the our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and kept everything on schedule. We travelled with our two sons, 15 and 12, and they loved the experience of Salzburg. The motor coach was punctual and the stops were sufficiently spaced apart. I very highly recommend this tour.

My understanding was this was an english speaking tour. The guide spoke also Spanish and Italian and repeated the same story in 3 languages which was not what was expected as the translations took far too long.

This is lovely but a lengthy tour expect to spend many hours on the bus. If you have a lousy tour director as we had it can be agony. He would dismiss questions mostly by saying "NOT NOW" In Salzburg he was only interested to end the tour as fast as possible so that "we" could have our free time. There were some people who could not move fast enought for him and pass rude remarks about them, a very unpleasant person. Salzburg is delightful and it would have been even better if the tour director would had been more forthcoming than "that is the bishop palace" and then move on without further explanations, and dont dare to ask (not now). Again with all this tours have them pick you up at your hotel.

Salzburg is a wonerful destination and deserves more than the few hours afforded by this day tour from Vienna. However if time is limited this tour also gives you a glimise of some wonderful Austrian countryside on the jouney from Vienna to Salzburg, albeit the journey is largely driven using major highways. Having booked an english speaking tour we were surprised to find out it was dual language (english / spanish), which meant than there was a lot of waiting around on the walking tour whilst the commentary was given in two languages. Unfortunately our tour group were not very punctual and this lead to a long day been even longer by the time we returned to Vienna.

Too little time on own. I was not expecting Spanish as well as English. Walking tour in Salzburg a bit hurried, disjointed, and vague. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

The bus trip was rather long but the tour guide was excellent. He kept everybody interested, talked about the area , the history , the people and their care for the enviroment, very friendly. Salzburg itself was well woth seeing. The countryside is truly beautiful, very green with lakes everywhere. I do reccomend this trip.

Well organised and enjoyable day trip to Salzburg. The journey to there was comfortable and full of beautiful scenery. The guide we had was knowledgeable and helpful. The only down side was the group being big and it was not easy to follow the group. Also the guide had to explain everything three times in different languages, so it was rather time consuming.

Not enough time in Salzburg, as I had no time to go back to Mozart birth house or shopping plaza after spending a great deal of time after looking for a place to eat on my own. Also the bus spent simply too much time at the rest area in both directions unnecessarily.

the tour guide was a bit of a bore, and played uninspiring music all the way - he was also a bit impatient with tourists who were obviously excited with being there for the first time. Not a bad sort of person, but not terribly well informed.

I personally enjoyed Salzburg a lot. The tour guide was not very informative and we were given only 3 hours to explore the town, that includes lunch time as well. So by the time you finish your meal you only have a very limited time to go to one place before you leave.

We had a wonderful guide - from the area. The alps are beautiful and worth seeing as is the town. We actually ate in a restaurant which has been serving food since 803! Long bus ride and sort of felt like a "sound of music" tour. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Salzburg is a beautiful city and that is why I am giving three stars. However, the tour should be organized differently. Stopping for breakfast was good because we started early and everybody was hungry but stopping for dinner was time we could have used exploring more of Salzburg. I would not recommend this trip.

Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and upbeat. She sparkled with her enthusiasm for the city. She has very clear pronunciation and could very easily be understood. But the main reason for the rating, there was sufficient time to actually see some museums and other sites that I came to Salzburg for. The lake area was very nice, but if so much of what is pointed out is dealing with the film "The Sound of Music" then ride by the church so we see a very clear view of it, maybe even take 20 minutes to go inside. But I loved the trip and would recommend it highly to friends.
