Schonbrunn Palace Evening Concert

Vienna, Austria

Listen to the music of Mozart and Strauss in the superb setting of the Orangery at Schonbrunn Palace. Accompanied by renowned musicians, singers and ballet dancers, the Schonbrunn Palace Orchestra performs the most famous works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss. The orchestra consists of highly talented virtuosos who have trained at the world's best-known conservatories. With a choice of seating, this two hour concert is a must do when visiting Vienna.

Likely to Sell-out! These concerts regularly sell out weeks in advance. Book ahead of time to avoid disappointment!

The Orangery at Schonbrunn offers the most delightful setting for the palace concerts. Since the time of the Habsburgs, it has been a place of musical and artistic festivities. During one of these events, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri competed in a musical contest at court, a contest still considered unique in music history.

There are four ticket categories to choose from: VIP, A, B and C, referring to the front, middle and rear of the auditorium respectively.

VIP guests enjoy preferred seating at the concert and will be served a glass of sparkling wine during the intermission.

Excellent! Delightful concert by a talented orchestra in a beautiful palace setting. The Director was really into it 110%. Highly varied selection of music and opera. The best thing we did in Vienna.

Excellent performance in a beautiful setting by all the performers. You do not have the full orchestra, only 6 players but there were also two opera singers and two ballet dancers. We only went to the evening performance but would be very worthwhile combining with the Palace tour and dinner package. Also very easy access by metro, as station is opposoite the Orangery or plenty of taxis waiting outside after the performance. You would also be well advised at the end to get to the cloak room first to collect your belongings and avoid the scrum.

Thoroughly enjoyable - we had great seats, but actual music segment lasted only one hour, with an intermission to pad it out.

This was a nice evening. For us it was more like a symphony than a concert. The ballet and opera added much to the evening. Thank you.

The musicians were wonderful. It would have been nice to have a program of the music that was being performed. The singers or dancers were not needed.

Recommended for experiencing the culture that Vienna is famous for, whatever your depth of knowledge of classical music. The performance included short pieces of opera and ballet and was held in the Orangery, which is a good sized venue for these smaller performances held in winter. The Orangery entrance and ticket desk is not at the main gate of the palace but approx 3 mins walk to the left before entering the grounds.

The Schonbrunn Palace Evening Concert was a let down for us. There were far fewer musicians than shown in the brochures. There was not even a conductor present and musicians seem to make mistakes from time to time. The opera singers and ballet dancers were entertaining to watch though. The instrumentation of sound was far too unbalanced. The piano player was inaudible while the single woodwind instrument present was way too loud. Also the seatings didnt make much difference in that the price you pay. They are all at the same seating level. The dress code of smart casual was not followed as people came in sneakers and jeans. It was a waste of time preparing even though people have repeatedly told us to dress up i.e. information centre, hotel receptionist saying people will look at you - this far from the truth. If you do decide to go, do admire Schonbrunn Palace as it is a beautiful sight to see. Performance wise, don't expect too much out of it.

We attended the Evening Concert. We arrived searly in the day looking to have all day at the Schonbrunn Palace. To collect tickets go to exterior entrance by road as entering main Palace grounds means long walk back. Polished daily performance of Viennese favourites. We had cheapest seats which were good. The xperience rounded off good day . tip reserve nearby restaurant table earlier in day if looking to eat before.

It was wonderful. I highly suggest as we did buying the best seats. We did not buy the VIP though and were glad we didn't. We had 3rd row center and saw all the facial expressions and heard the sound well. The room has a flat floor so if you purchase low priced tickets it would be difficult to see the dancers and singers that were excellent. It was a highlight of the trip to us.

Concert was held in the Orangerie, which was a free seating arrangement. A free for all and a scramble. Much photography and videoing going on during the performance with no regard to the requests of the stewards to stop. Very disrupting for surrounding audience's enjoyment of the performances. Allocated seating would have been a much better arrangement as the seats for that event were expensive. I purchased 3 tickets for the event but would not go again to a free seating event. I also went to a Haydn concert in Eisenstadt and the Brahms Hall Mozart concert in Vienna...these were fantastic events and much better organised, and the the seating was allocated.

We were expecting just an instrumental concert. However, there was also opera singers (some with a sense of humor) and dancers that added to the whole experience. The lightning storm also added to the ambiance. Totally worthwhile!

Wonderful, stunning, phenomenal. I was by myself and had the perfect seat in the third row, dead center. I bought the A seating ticket and couldn't have been happier. There is a great artist to purchase drawings from and a bar for a drink before the show and during intermission. Highly recommended!

Our concert was actually in the palace itself instead of the Organgerie and it was fantastic. We would really recommend this evening. The dancers and opera singers really added to the special music of the orchestra.
