Washington DC Guided Day Tour

Washington D.C., United States of America

Take the most comprehensive guided tour of Washington DC there is! This tour combines a bus tour with short walks and either a private boat cruise on the Potomac River during spring and summer months, or a visit to Pentagon City Mall for lunch and shopping during the rest of the year.

Other tours of DC either use a recording or their tour guide stays on the bus when you hop off.  On this tour, the guide will get off the bus with you and walk you through each attraction, showing it to you in detail.  The guide will also join you on the boat cruise (operates March 15 to October 31 only), so you will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the day. Outside of spring and summer (November 1 to March 14) you'll visit Pentagon City Mall for lunch and shopping.

During this tour, you'll see all the DC monuments and memorials up close and personal, and learn the history and trivia surrounding the US capital. It's great for kids and adults of all ages!  This tour provides a great overview of the Washington DC if you have a limited time to visit.

Photo stops are made at major Washington DC monuments, and you'll be entertained and informed by the tour guide's expert commentary throughout the day.

Your guide will hop off the shuttle with you at every major attraction, including:

  • US Capitol Building
  •  Washington Monument
  • World War II Memorial
  • Jefferson Memorial
  • FDR Memorial
  • Boat Cruise Up the Potomac River
  • Vietnam Veterans Memorial
  • Lincoln Memorial
  • Korean Memorial
  • Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima)
  •  The White House
Additional attractions you will pass but not stop at include:
  • Arlington Cemetery
  • FBI Building
  •  Washington Mall
  • World War I Memorial
  • Holocaust Museum
  • The Pentagon
  • Smithsonian Museums
  • Congressional Office Buildings
  • Theodore Roosevelt Island
  • Kennedy Center
  • Watergate Complex
  • Georgetown University
  • DC Waterfront

This tour was GREAT. Our guide made it exciting with stories and information of all of that we saw. The ride up and down the river was relaxing, and a great break from the ride on the tour bus. My only complaint (and it really isn't one) would be the one l o n g walk to the MLK memorial. At least it seemed long to me. Well worth it though. I would do it all again, maybe at night next time. I would recomend this tour to all. It has to be the best tour offered.

Our guides carried us around with a day full of information and knowledge. Taking in the sights and with the guides with us at all time there was never a doubt that we selected the correct trip.

Very good other than architects and surveyors who were mentioned did not include Benjamin Banneker (A Black Man), the Astronomer who astrologically aligned the DC landscape that is a marvel to all throughout the world.

I enjoyed it immensely depite the fact that the marathon, scheduled for that morning threw a monkey wrench in the time schedule. The bus driver got lots of practice and learned the streets and I saw a few things several times. The guide did a great job directing the driver and guiding. Thanks for the pickup and delivery to the Gaylord. It was was very appreciated.

I took my wife on New Year to Washington DC. We heard and read a lot about Viator online but unfortunately our experience was pathetic. The tour bus was highly suffocated and looked like a mini jail when comparing with regular tour buses. _br/_ Above all the tour guide was just like a school teacher talking and talking the history of places and gave 10 minutes to see the place in real.

This was hugely disappointing. The day was slow and dragged on. The tour guide was unable to answer the most basic questions about presidents, preferring to "throw a guess out there". Joking about whether one of the women on the trip was wearing panties was inappropriate. Sadly, this felt like a wasted day.

Excellent informative and enjoyable tour. Amy, the tour guide, was super knowledgeable. The driver was super. The van was a bit crowded, and it didn't look like it had been cleaned out after the previous group...that's my only complaint. Loved getting a ride back to my hotel. Thanks so much.

Poor rating due to the fact that this was supposed to be a BUS tour, instead we were stuffed in a van, causing discomfort.

This tour was excellent and I would def recommend to everyone. Our guide was super but sadly it rained torrential rain this day and it was really cold. Washington is an a amazing city and I can't wait to go back. I will def do this tour again, awesome. Cheers Janeane

In spite of the rainy weather, nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of our knowledgeable guide - think his name was Rick. The driver was Miller.

We only have one day in Washington and wanted to make the most of the time we had and decided to take a guided tour instead of a hop-on/hop off.

Very informative trip. A lot was packed in to the day with 10 or 15 minute stops at major sights until we reached the FDR monument where we spent 45 minutes. It had been quite obvious during the tour that the guide had democratic sympathies but this became a little too much like a political speech by the time we reached the FDR.

This is a great value trip, you get to see all the monuments in one day.The timing was just right 6 hours so you could still plan things for later in the evening. Much enjoyed by both of us. The tour guide was wonderful, very knowledgeable.

The tour was pretty comprehensive, the guide was very knowledgable. Covered alot of places and time was well-distributed. I highly recommend that if you want to see most of the monuments and have a background of what they mean, take the tour! Very worth it!

A really good tour, you see lots - Tour guide Amy? driver Russ were both good, amy especially knew her history - only downside, too long for lunch - could have halved it, can always eat and ride in the bus.

Despite the poor weather and no heating on the bus as the heated bus was stolen our tour guide, Amy, persevered and provided excellent knowledge of local monuments. An exciting tour well worth the money.

I thought the Washington DC Guided tour was great, although it seemed to be a little rushed at times. Our guide was fantastic, very knowledgable. Would love to have him on another tour for his knowledge base. The over all experience was wonderful as it gave me an idea of the layout of DC, the history surroundings these spectacular monuments and a history of the USA.

Nice bus, lots of botled water, a really good tour guide who was funny, knew his history and took good care of us. The bus driver was carefull and we felt safe. We saw the highlights in D.C. with all the facts to go with them. Even though we had seen some of the places before, it was great to have the guide explain a lot of details and facts.

This tour was great start to our stay in DC as it gave us the opportunity to get ourselves orientated and discover the whereabouts of all the great sights to see. Amy our tour guide was a fountain of knowledge and wit..! Our party was a small one and although Amy kept us moving, at NO time did we feel rushed. The addition of the lunch time boat trip enabled us to see panoramic views of the city. A very interesting tour giving an insight to DC's history, culture and people. One not to be missed especially if your tour is conducted by Amy..!

Our recent visit to Washington,DC was great, thanks to Viator! The 6 hour tour was worth the money. Very thorough and entertaining. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this tour to anyone. Our guide was fantastic. We are going to Canada next summer, and will definitely look up Viator tours in the cities we visit. Great experience. Thanks for a job well done!

We enjoyed the tour. Loved the T. Rosevelt garden - saw our friends name at the Viet Nam Memorial - Korean Memorial was impressive...all part of the tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly._br/_ Through no fault of the tour, I'm afraid we left DC with a feeling that somewhere we have lost our "freedom". We have not been to DC since 1976 at which time, we could visit Congress, both House and Senate sitting in the spectator seats, we could visit the White House, etc. and now so many things are "off limits" to us "American Citizens"._br/_ Thanks for the tour ! This was a great tour to get your bearings and to tick off all the big ticket items, ie. White House, major memorials etc. Our tour guide was very good and informative. I didn't see any value in the boat trip as you don't see anything interesting or of significance from the boat, but I suppose it gave you a chance to recharge - although to me, this was just a waste of time. Overall, the tour was good and the guide was very informative and made for a fun day.

The tour was well planned & really made the most use of the time allotted for it. There is no way you can see every monument in DC in a day, but I sure felt like I did when it was done. Even better than the tour was our tour guide, Nick. He was knowledgeable & knew obscure facts that made the tour that much more enjoyable. Great tour!!
