The Washington DC Hop-on Hop-off Trolley Tour is the easiest way to get around town. You can hop on and off at any of the 20 stops as often as you like. Trolleys depart every 30 minutes.

There are three trolley routes:

National Mall and Downtown - Orange Loop
The orange line traverses the National Mall with stops at all the Smithsonian Museum buildings, as well as the national monuments and memorials: Lincoln, FDR, Washington, Jefferson, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, United States Capitol and Supreme Court buildings.

National Cathedral, Uptown and Georgetown - Green Loop
The green line travels uptown to visit the National Zoo and Washington National Cathedral. It then takes you through "Embassy Row" on its way to historic Georgetown, Washington's oldest neighborhood and a mecca for shopping and dining. Finally, the green line stops at the White House and White House Visitor Center.

Arlington National Cemetery Shuttle - Red Loop (10 - 15 minute ride)
The Arlington Cemetery line shuttles between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery.

Drivers knowledgeable and courteous. Seats on some of the newer trolleys were comfortable, but overall, the seats on our two day trip were very uncomfortable. Still, a great way to experience DC.

The trolley drivers were very informative and pleasant. When turning in our vouchers for tickets, the girl we talked to was not very helpful in finding a place to park our car. She just assumed we knew where car parks were located. Overall, we would purchase again, next time the 2-day tickets.

Mostly good except that trolley did not show up on Sunday a.m. Arrived at pick-up spot prior to 9:30 am. Contacted Viator office that no trolley had arrived about 10:10. Told just that they had started late. Trolley arrived at 11:15, having wasted our entire morning.

All of the guides are knowledgable - some are more entertaining and engaging. I understand there are restrictions on where buses can stop but like to see a stop near the WW II monument. It would also be helpful if stops were designated by street addresses rather than an approximate location. We would have used the service more had we known the proximity to our hotel.

We had a terrible time torying to get onto the trolley. We stood at what we thought were the stops but the trolley would not stop to pick us up. We called the office twice and got "directions" on where to go and wait which we did. After waiting for over 35 minutes we just started walking. We spent over two hours trying to get on the trolley. Then in mid afternoon at one of the historical sites, by chance, the trolley stopped where we were and we got on. Once we were on it, it was great. We had two different drivers that were very informative and had so much historical knowledge of D.C. Bottom line, not sure I would choose this tour next time.

Absolutely memorable tour. Drivers were outstanding; logistics of getting on-off were conspicuously easy. Worked in DC during my federal career. Wanted my wife to see what I did during my tenure. Albeit I worked in the Rayburn Building (Congressional building) I actually learned things about DC that I never knew while I was postioned down there. The very highest possible marks. Recommedn for everyone !

The tour guides were very knowledgeable and the tour was very interesting. However, I would suggest either adding more trolleys or reduce the time between pick-ups. We spent way too much time waiting for the next trolley, instead of seeing the sigts in DC.

Guides were excellent, informative but not boring. Lots of little anecdotes, and the trolleys are a good size, not too big. But, there are not enough of them, so it's half an hour wait if you can't fit on the next one along. Cuts a big part out of your day. We ended up having to sit on the trolley all the way around as had not time to get on and off. Otherwise, great value for money.

Only worth if you can not walk. everything is in walking distance. If you book online and you can not print the voucher it will be very challenging with Tour Company, they are not able to print tickets with your voucher number. They referred me to stop one to get them printed , they said we have no printer, I should go to Stop 4, Union station... what a joke , no we have no printed. One of my reservations become sick ,there was no way to cancel on time. Not a great experience.

There are several hop-on hop-off tour options available at about the same cost. I do not recommend this one. The double-decker bus tour seemed to have much more frequent buses. This trolley tour promised that they would pass by stops every half hour but it was often more like 45 minutes. We usually saw 2 of the double decker busses pass while we were waiting for the trolley. Also our trolley ran out of space and turned us away to wait for another "half hour" for the next one. The double decker bus seemed to have about double the space. Tour operators were good, but the trolley seats are uncomfortable and tight for tall people (I'm 6'1"). The bus looked much better.

Our trolley tour was the day of the Earthquake - 8/23/2011 - while trolley tours suspended completely we had a most excellent driver that took us all over town trying to help the passengers get as close to where they needed to be to handle the emergency situation. I'll never forget his kindness. He even threw in some quick snippits of tour details as we moved through town dropping passengers off!

This is a nice way to see DC, but you need to better inform people of exact drop off/pick up points. Nowhere did it state Old Ebbitt Grill on the itinerary....also, you need more busses - when they are full we have to wait a full 1/2 hour for another one and HOPE it isn't full.

Drivers were very informed of the area and history. Each of your drivers were very polite. Took a simular tour in Chicago and it was terrible. A plus to you and your staff.

We loved the historical knowledge of the drivers and the steps that the tour saved, but were very disappointed when they closed an hour and a half early, causing us to miss some things we really wanted to see. I know it was hot, but other tours were still going. We kept being told that the last run would be 4 pm for all tours, then at 3:30 they shut down shuttles to Arlington. Other buses were still running and we had to find another way there. Really disappointing for the money we paid.

Frankly the trip was not up to standard of a similar hop on hop off trip I did just a few days later in newyork. Here are the reasons why. _br/_ 1 few buses compared to the red bus tour. _br/_ 2 you call them to ask when the bus will ome to a location and they don't know. just remove pwaiting time from 30minutes to give an answer. Considering they are in touch with the buses they can ask them in a sec and give an answer but they don't care enough of good service to bother. Considering most of my USA trip I have got great service, this tour was the opposite._br/_ 3. They don't have signs of exactly which side of a location the bus will stop or assistants waiting at each location so for a tourist he may be waiting at one side for an hour and the bus will come from other side and leave. Once I saw the bus and waved to stop but he just sped off as it was not exactly the stopping place._br/_ If I did not have friend to show me around this would have been a very bad tour. These guys were not even 10% of the service of the new York hop on tour.

Using the trolley was the best way to get around DC! All the drivers were funny and informative. It made it extremely easy to get to the places we wanted to go. Everyone at the welcome center was very friendly also. When there was a back up at any stop, they always called for an empty trolley. Thanks for being such a great company!

This was the worse tour I have ever been on. The trolley was always overcrowded. We had to wait on the third trolley almost every time. The people that were working in the visitors center left by 2pm and we could not even get around to it to get our real tickets.

Great tour, you get to see all highlights of Washington, allow a good 2 hours to see the Arlington Cemetary. Note that the Tolleys are now always on time, expecially the Arlington Cemetary trolley, this was 40 minutes late.

I highly recommend this tour in washington DC. They have given us very nice service picked us from our hotel and they took us to all the points mentioned in their brochure. and every 30 min.their orange line or green line bus was coming. The most important thing i would like to mention that while coming we missed our last bus but the old lady at stop no.10 she told us to wait there and afterwards she called to their team guide and they dropped us to the hotel.So we are very thankful to the whole team of Trolley tour who givem us very nice service. i highly recommend to everyone.

The Hop On HopOff trolley worked great for the four of us to see the sights in Washington D.C. We used it over two consecutive days, for the price of one day, so it was a bargain as well! We did all three routes and went to Arlington Cemetery, saw and stopped at all the monuments, and stopped at the National Cathedral on the green loop. It sure saved a lot of walking. The shuttle was mostly always on time, and the driverguides very good.

Our experience was very good. It was convenient and we could see what we wanted to or continue on. The only little complaint is that the National Catherdral was not on the "stops" and I wish you could stop a little closer to the National Zoo. We are four retired ladies and the blocks in Washington are the longest blocks I have ever seen! The zoo was worth it though, the pandas really put on a show for us.
