Switzerland Countryside and Traditions Tour from Zurich

Zurich, Switzerland

Delight in some real Swiss traditions on this full day coach trip from Zurich. Even those pressed for time will find this tour is an ideal way to experience scenic Swiss country life up close. Even better, you'll travel in a personalized small group with a maximum of 16 people!

Your tour starts with a short city tour of the upcoming and trendy district of Zurich West. Walk past the renowned university and the Museum of Art before you head to the heart of the Old Town. On your way to the Lake of Zurich you will pass by the beautiful Limmatquai and the Fraumunster Church. A great shopping opportunity awaits you at the out-let shop of the world famous Lindt factory outlet shop - a must-do for chocoholics.

Continue your tour to Rapperswil, well known for its impressive medieval castle before you reach the picturesque village of Appenzell. Take a guided walk past decorative houses, before enjoying approximately two hours at your leisure for your own exploration. You may choose to visit the Appenzell museum for a closer look at traditional Swiss customs or enjoy a local speciality at one of the cosy Appenzell restaurants. Alternatively, stroll the narrow pedestrian streets for a spot of souvenir shopping.

Before returning to Zurich you will stop in Stein, where you'll observe the traditional method of cheese making in the Appenzeller region at the local cheese factory.

Along the bus trip, it was nice seeing the countryside, very nice sights, but need to pay more to go up to t he mountain, not worth.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

I booked this tour knowing that a Zurich city tour is included but days after I paid for the tour, they e-mailed me that the city tour would not be included. I ended up not having toured the city at all.

Overall this tour was good despite we were not allowed to go inside the two factories due to hygenic reasons! It would have been much more entertaining if this was arranged. The cog-wheel car trip up to the mountain was also good especially in a sunny day where sky is blue!

We had a wonderful time at all the stops! We didn't stay too long at any of them, just enough time. We took this tour with a 2 year old, and she enjoyed the tour as well! We had a wonderful lunch and the tour guide was very good at showing us all the things to look at.

Overall, trip was good. Cheese factory was a little rushed. Town was quaint and interesting. Chocolate factory gave plenty of samples, and good prices at the factory store.

Disappointed in the cheese factory. Not enough time to see or taste and buy anything. The chocolate factory didn't really show anything and was not one of the better chocolates. The only good things were our lunch and the town.

The picture depicts what you can see from the bus, which is moving faster than the speed of light. Appenzellerland is very small and full of expensive shops. The tour guide just drops you off and continues on another tour, then returns to pick you up.

You have to like the countryside, the tour guide was great and we stopped off at a few places to break the sore bum syndrome. Recommend it.

Positives - The guide and bus driver were good and full of basic information about Switzerland, Appenzell etc so it was interesting. Also, we were left to our own devices most of the time and had lots of free time to wander around which we liked though this may not be everyone's cup of tea. The scenery was amazing and the guide made sure to point out to us all the interesting local sights. _br /__br /_ Negatives - I felt we spent too much time at the Schwegalp and this was exacerbated by the fact that the cheese factory was closed - so that was a bit of a let down.

Wonderful scenery and excellent tour guide, however, the visit to the chocolate factory a disappointment.

There were many great sights to see, and even though it was raining, it was still a fantastic tour to see Switzerland. I would love to to it again in clear weather. The guide's English wasn't the best, but he still was very informative.

The driver/guide did his best to point out all the sights along the way. While the rest of the group went up Mount Santis on another tour in the same bus, my husband and I bought cheese and meat at the small factory and had a picnic with the cows along the walking trail.

Enjoyed the drive to the little town. This tour also took a detour to Mt. Santis, which was a pleasant surprise. It started snowing there almost on cue when we landed, and even though it was freezing, it sure was lovely. Appenzellerland is cute and has some delightful little sights. The drizzle only added to it. The chocolate factory for those with a sweet tooth is a treat, with free samples and good prices at the store. It's definitely worth picking up a handful for people back home. I wish I'd picked the time of the year when the local processions happen; that would've been at its cultural best. The guide was a history buff and patiently shared the stories throughout the journey.

We were left alone at the cheese factory with no guide. We had very little time at the chocolate factory. I expected a demonstration of cheese and chocolate making. The sightseeing was not worth the amount of time we spent on bus.
Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this

Good trip, but I personally would prefer more time at each stop. There was max 1 hour for each stop.

The chocolate factory was great - with free samples galore! The cheese factory was quaint and the cheese, excellent. The best part of the trip was the cows and goats roaming freely around the mountain setting. It was very peaceful to hear their bells while dining.

More time in Azzenzell would be appreciated. The tour was combined with Mt. Santis, so we paid for that too but really wanted the city.
