Delphi Day Trip from Athens

Athens, Greece

Visit Delphi – one of the most important archeological sites in Greek history – on this full-day trip from Athens! Traveling with an expert guide, you’ll explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town, home to the Temple of Apollo, and stroll around Delphi Archeological Museum. Learn all about Greek mythology and history while seeing fascinating monuments, and visit the pretty town of Arachova on the journey back to Athens.

Ancient Greece is the civilization that existed roughly between the 8th century BC and 600 AD, and Delphi was said to represent the center of it. Reputedly built on the spot where Zeus’ eagles collided when they were released from opposite ends of the earth, the ancient town is littered with intriguing monuments from this fascinating period of history.

After meeting your guide in Athens, hear tales about the ancient Greeks and their lives in Delphi while traveling to the town by air-conditioned coach. Pass through the towns of Levadia and Arachova – both famous for their production of brightly colored carpets – and arrive in Delphi around midday.

First stop is a tour of the Delphi archeological site – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and easily one of the most important digs in Europe. As you walk around the evocative ruins with your guide, see famous monuments like the Temple of Apollo.

Head inside Delphi Archeological Museum and explore this veritable treasure trove at leisure. Home to countless artifacts and intriguing relics, the museum consists of 15 rooms arranged in chronological order from 15th century BC to 4th century AD. Be sure to check out the bronze Charioteer of Delphi and the Sphinx of Naxos.

After eating lunch at a Delphi hotel (own expense), you will return to Athens, stopping in Arachova on the way to stretch your legs or grab a coffee (own expense).

Our guide was knowledgable but spoke very quickly trying to get info out to the group._br/_ It felt very rushed and sad that we were not able to climb to top where stadium and track were located. Possibly the delay was due to traffic getting out of Athens and left us with very little time._br/_ I wish there had been more time for questions .

We enjoyed the trip to Delphi. The guide was knowledgeable and one of the few guides that we had whose English was quite clear. The tour involves a lot of steps and is not for those who are not in good condition or handicapped. The ruins are interesting and there is quite a view of the valley and mountains from the site. The museum was very nice. There are no restroom facilities at the ruins portion of the site, This made for some discomfort as tour did not go to the bathrooms first before entering the historic site. It is a fairly long drive to the site from Athens, I think it was about 2.5 hours with one stop. You come back the same way. Therefor you are committing a whole day to this tour. This is how it is listed so not a surprise, just consider your options when selecting this one. They picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel which is nice since we were some distance from the departure point.

It was pretty amazing to visit Delphi and the museum however, there are a few improvements that could be made to this tour: 1 Allow some shopping time in the museum's store, as well as the town with the lunch stop. Those who didn't pick the lunch option got the better deal, in our opinion, because they got to explore a bit of the town and still find something to eat, while the rest of us went to a hotel Amalia in Delphi to eat and then immediately leave thereafter. The Amalia Hotel in Athens is the one where Chat Tours is located, the operator of this particular tour. 2 Make sure everyone knows to bring water ... we did...but not everyone else did. 3 Make sure any special meal requests for the lunch option, for which you pay extra, and that are acknowledged by the tour operator as being doable, are communicated to the hotel serving the lunch...which should be easy since it is a big hotel Amalia that prepares the lunch and one that is affiliated with Chat Tours. My daughter has a gluten-allergy. We communicated this information at booking and reconfirmed the morning of our tour. We were assured that this request was not a problem. We were disappointed in how long it took for her meal to get to her other guests had already finished their second-course by the time she received her first one. The tour guide was not very helpful in getting the issue resolved, but the restaurant staff did apologize.

This is one of the best sites and trips available from Athens. I thought it would be like Machu Picchu, but it wasn't. Sad to see all of the pieces scattered about instead being reassembled. I would have preferred local cuisine or a taverna rather than the prearranged hotel provided lunch I purchased with this trip. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't a taverna.

A good-albeit-long tour up to Delphi with a knowledgeable and charismatic guide. Delphi is - to be honest - a bit on the dull side, but it's a nice tour run well, and a good chance to see Greece's inland. Our one recommendation is to skip the included lunch and go to Ταβέρνα Βάκχος, which was the absolute highlight of our trip!

The bus ride is quite long the site is impressive in the historical context. The views are incredibly impressive, and could be for some the highlight of this tour. I would also have enjoyed the trip more, had we had more time in the two small towns in which we stopped. They are truly SO unique, but the schedule the tour had allotted there was no more than 10 minutes or so, and then they stopped at a gift shop. TIP: if you want to enjoy at least one of the towns on your way back, do not take the lunch included tour. They can drop you off in town and you get to experience it and there are many restaurants with breathtaking views in town.

This was a very worthwhile tour. It shows the importance of Delphi and its significance in Greek mythological history. The tour guide was wonderful. He was a veritable encyclopedia of knowledge about Greek history and mythology. He was able to explain the details in understandable terms. The ruins give you a real feel of what it must have been like during the ancient period.

My sister and I had a wonderful experience on this trip. It was very easy to book, a good price, and very convenient. The trip was very well organized, our tour guide, Joy, was very funny and knowledgeable, and told us some great stories we would have not heard otherwise. Definitely worth it if you're looking for a great day trip outside of Athens. We did not opt to get the lunch but the bus dropped us off right outside a cute little restaurant in a beautiful little town that we ate at and then they picked us back up before heading back to Athens. Highly recommended if you're in Athens for more than a few days and want to experience the Greek countryside and an amazing historical site.

It requires a very early start and we were picked up at 6.45 am. Long bus ride brings you to Delphi. A good guide is a must. Its very humbling to stand among such ancient monuments. _br/_ The Delphi museum is quite small but good.

This tour was great. The tour guide was very informative. Beautiful place. The bus ride was comfortable and kids were happy with WiFi. The 3 course lunch at Hotel Amalia on the way back was delicious. The only thing I could change is a bit more free time. We had 40 mins only before we had to meet up again for the museum tour but I wish we had one hour. So much view to take in and because we had to factor in time to walk to the meeting place, we really didnt have much time to enjoy the scenery.

Delphi was great but wouldn't recommend on a hot day due to the minimal shade. Afterwards you have an option to eat lunch in Delphi but wish you could do that in Arachova instead it's a way cooler town!

Tour was well organised and the guide was very friendly and responsive. We learned a lot from the tour about Delphi and felt comfortable asking about various questions relating to Greek ancient history. The tour can be a little long as a day trip to Delphi but is certainly worth it.

Our guide was fascinating, really made the history come alive with good story telling, humor and detailed knowledge of his subject. it is a long journey from and back to Athens, but our guide kept us entertained._br/_ Detailed descriptions of the site and museum were given, however time is tight, so free time in both was limited.

The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because the tour guide was just a bit too chatty. She actually talked SO much on the site that most people in our group didn't even get the chance to visit the entire site. Also, WAY too much chatting on the bus. Otherwise, the site is amazing! DON'T do the included lunch. Everyone that did, regretted it. The other option is that you get to have lunch on your own in this adorable little village with amazing reviews.

We really enjoyed seeing Delphi. The sites were amazing. We would have preferred the option to go on without the tour guide though as she seemed to get off topic easily and we only had a short amount of time before the site closed for the day. We did get to see the stadium at the top but had to rush to make it up and back in time. The lunch was only okay. I would still recommend the lunch option as it was more convenient and the food was already prepared. Overall would recommend this tour.

We booked this tour to see the stadium but it was closed. Sounded like it had been closed for awhile, wish Viator hadnt listed it in the description. That being said our tour guide was awesome and very funny and the tour bus was comfortable. Delphi was absolutely stunning.

Please don't waste your time./ While the views are nice, this trip was an absolute waste of time. Most of our time was spent on the bus travelling. Delphi was crowded with hoards of students on class trips. The lunch was okay. Overall, it definitely was not worth the money.

This was a great tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. It's a long day but worth it. Delphi is spectacular. The optional lunch was very good and the restaurant had a beautiful outlook over the valley. The driver was very skilled and careful. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. Just do it!

I really wanted to like this tour, but just couldn't. I booked this tour since my children are interested in greek mythology and thought this would be a great tie in with our current lessons. However, there are a few things to consider when booking this tour. The tour has complimentary hotel pickup, so we were picked up 1 hour before the tour started. We then drove all across the city picking up other participants to end up at the tour start point about 3 blocks from our hotel. Had I known this I would have let the kids sleep another hour and walked to the tour start point. Next, the majority of the day is spent on the bus than at the site. We spent an hour driving around the city picking up people, then had a 2 hour ride to the site. We had 60 to 90 minutes at the Temple of Apollo. The site is gorgeous, but is very rough terrain. The paths are rock and gravel with many uneven stairs. The guide was good, but spoke fast and was very factual. The information presented was good for adults, but really not of much interest to the kids. We then walked to the museum and only had 30 minutes inside before being picked up by the bus to get to lunch. The lunch was mediocre and really didn't have many choices for kids. Then we boarded the bus again for 2 hour ride back to Athens and drove around dropping everyone off. I would not book this tour again.

The tour was well organized, the bus was comfortable, and the guide was very knowledgeable but I felt very rushed when at actually at the Delphi site. The guide walked us through the first part of the site and then left us on our own to either continue walking up to the top or go to the museum. I walked all the way up to the stadium and when I returned to the bottom, I was only able to spend 5 minutes in the museum. I skipped lunch on the tour and I wish I had been given the option to spend longer on the site rather than walking around the town for an hour.

A must do when in Greece. The ruins are located a top of a mountain that has scenery much like the Swiss Alps. The history and stories are wonderful and our tour guide was amazing. Plus you get to stop at Parnessus a must see ski resort town. I would do this trip all over again.

very worth the cost and time, our four guide was extremely knowledgable and friendly. Delphi is a much more significant historical site than I knew before. The bus ride through rural Greece was interesting too. _br/_ One minor comment, extra time at the site even 1/2 hour would be nice.Great job.

Excellent full day trip, we were picked up promptly from our hotel in Athens, pleasant drive with rest breaks. Excellent guide with interesting local knowledge during the journey and at Delphi. Delphi is stunning well worth a visit. Quite a walk up to the top of the sight but worth it to see the stadium. You will need some stamina ._br/_ We opted for lunch as did most of the group a nice interlude at a hotel with stunning views._br/_ A chance for some retail therapy on the way back to Athens.

The scenery is beautiful and Delphi was amazing but the guide talked to much and left little free time to talk photos and make it all the way to the top before you were meant to meet at the museum to catch the bus back. My advice would be to skip the talks and walk ahead at your own pace but being mindful to meet st the designated return time to catch the bus back. My faviouate part was the stop in the cute town on the way back sooo pretty

This tour was amazing, and the tour guide was fantastic. Because licensing requires extensive education, all the tour guides in Greece were well worth it! Due to a fatal accident on the very busy last stretch, we hit a huge traffic jam on the way back. A couple probably missed their flight home as a result. Lesson learned: the return time may be out of anyone's control.

Excellent! The trip is on a comfortable bus and the tour was fully guided. Some time is used picking up folks but not bad. The trip is long, the drive is picturesque. There is a 30 minute stop halfway-through on the drive out get a bite to eat because the provided lunch is not until after you have gone through the Delphi site. The tour guide, Elsa, was extremely knowledgeable and informative she knew the artifacts very well and explained about them with historical detail. The site is impressive, especially the stadium. The museum is much larger than expected and with many well-presented artifacts. We honestly didn't have enough time to see everything in the museum, that would be the one negative. The lunch was held in a nice restaurant and the food very good.

Tour was ok. It is a long day and unless you are a history enthusiast, can be boring at times. The included lunch at the hotel was ok, but nothing spectacular. We were trying to see as much of Greece as possible in a short amount of time so this fit the bill.

Excellent tour guide from Chat Tours who provided intelligent backdrop for the Delphi tour with Greek mythology stories. Delphi an amazing place and the engineering and construction of such structures without modern techniques is unbelievable. On a different note, I recommend the lunch option. It was excellent with a good variety of food.
