Banff National Park Guided Hike with Lunch

Banff, Canada

Get out in Canada’s crisp mountain air on one of these four iconic hikes in the Banff and Lake Louise areas of Alberta. The Canadian Rockies offer a dramatic backdrop to explore some of North America’s most spectacular hikes, for varying levels and abilities. Trek to classic locations and see spectacular views. Share your passion for the mountains with the local, enthusiastic guides. Explore the Larch Valley, Stanley Glacier, Kootenay National Park Trails or the Plain of Six Glaciers.

Your full-day hiking tour begins with a convenient pickup. Meet your guide, double-knot your laces and set off into the wilderness with your optional hiking poles in tow. Learn fascinating interpretive facts about the area along the way and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch (see Itinerary section below for menu). At the end of your hike, you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel.

Hiking Schedule

Sunday - Kootenay National Park Trails
Travel to three short hiking trails within Kootenay National Park such as Vista Lake, Marble Canyon, Numa Falls, Paint Pots, and Fireweed Loops. Enjoy connecting with nature with a variety of different views of the National Park. This trip is ideal for families and first time hikers!
Return Distance: 4.5 miles (8km)
Elevation Gain: 492 feet (150 meters)

Monday and Saturday - Larch Valley
Beginning from the Valley of Ten Peaks at Moraine Lake, this scenic trail is not for the faint of heart, as there are sometimes bears in the area. But the brave are rewarded with unforgettable views on the ascent through the Larch Forest, to Sentinel Pass. Adventurous nature lovers will like this moderate 5-hour climb.
Return Distance: 5.6 miles (9 km)
Elevation: 1,500 feet (465 meters)

Tuesday and Thursday - Stanley Glacier
This trail takes you through the regrowth of the tragic 1960s and 2003 fires, so you can see new life emerging in this once blackened forest. See stunning views of Stanley Glacier sliding down the side of Mt Stanley as well as Peyto Lake. This is a great hike for those seeking a relatively easy 4-hour stroll through beautiful scenery.
Return Distance: 5.25 miles (8.4 km)
Elevation: 1,285 feet (395 meters)

Wednesday and Friday - Plain of Six Glaciers
Begin on the shores of picturesque Lake Louise, then rise up a mountain for breathtaking views of the emerald lake from above and surrounding valleys and peaks, and in the distance, Peyto Lake. Stop at the teahouse for cakes and tea (own expense). People wanting a challenge with rewarding views will dig this moderate 4-hour hike.
Return Distance: 6.6 miles (10.6 km)
Elevation: 1,110 feet (340 meters)

The hike was great but the forest was ordinary. A regular forest juts like we know them. Don't expect to see blue water or amazing rivers. It was a normal forest with great trees and vegetation. The guide a girl for once XD was really nice and informative. It wasn't what i expected but still, it was nice.

A really nice day shared with Tibo our guide and another traveller. Tibo gave us all his attention, knowledge and affability throughout. He was always attentive to what we needed. Lovely hike to the base of Stanley Glacier and all completed before the rain began!!

What a fabulous outing. We hiked Johnston Canyon right up to the Ink Pots. Becky, our guide, shared great information about the area, and allowed plenty of time to catch the sights. Lunch up at the Ink Pots was nearly as enjoyable as the scenery.

Lake Louise is spectacular, but it can be really busy so getting there without driving is one of the big advantages of a tour traffic and parking can be a hassle. I appreciated that I was able to book this guided hike less than 24 hours in advance even though they ask for more notice on their website. Our guide, Edward, was patient, encouraging it's just around the corner...you are doing great, and knowledgeable. On the drive out to Lake Louise from Banff, he told us a lot about the area which was really interesting. We had different levels of experience within our group a total of 7 - many of us did not know each other, but that was never a problem. Even though this hike is very popular and can get really busy, especially in the summer, I still highly recommend it.

It was a beautiful hike, but it rained and the smoke from the fires obscured the views. two of the people on our hike turned back. I think if the weather would have been better, they would have made the hike/.

The trip was great and our guide Jeff is really a knowledgable and very nice guy. Although the trip route has been changed due to the winter ice on the mountain, which I highly recommend to be showed on the website before people making decision to buy the trip, we still had a great hiking experience at Johnston Canyon during that 7 hours, especially when you get to the top, the water was so blue.... Our guide Jeff was so nice to drive us back to our hotels, and was so kind to drive me to Gondola and let me know I could have hot spring right after Gondola, which I did and the experience was so awesome. Wonderful trip!

This hike was amazing and doing it through this tour company was a great move. Norm, our guide, drove us and about a half dozen other folks from Banff to Lake Louise. The ride was in a comfortable Mercedes Benz sprinter van. Norm talked with us the whole way up and was very knowledgable about nature and the Banff National Park area, and answered a bunch of our questions. When we arrived at Lake Louise, it was readily apparent that even if one weren't interested in having a guide on the hike, the fact that we did not ourselves have to navigate the sea of people and parking issues at the lake was worth it alone. During the hike, Norm continued to answer any questions we had about the route and things we saw. The views were spectacular and the lunch provided by the company was very good. I would highly recommend this hike to anyone looking to learn about Banff, and also anyone who wants a relatively stress free way to visit Lake Louise during the high tourism season. Norm also specifically made this outing one of our favorites during our entire 2 week vacation to Canada.

Excellent trip with a great tour guide named Anak. Learned a lot about the area and flora and fauna of the area. Worth spending the money to have a guide. Would do it again.
