Bangkok\'s Grand Palace Complex and Wat Phra Kaew Tour

Bangkok's Grand Palace Complex and Wat Phra Kaew Tour

Bangkok, Thailand

Ask anyone who has been to Bangkok what their 'must see' list of the city entails, and without fail they'll include The Grand Palace. This half-day sightseeing tour in Bangkok can be taken in the morning or afternoon and will allow you the opportunity to explore the complex, accompanied by a local guide. The Grand Palace Complex is home to a number of attractions including Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha).

Built in traditional Thai architecture mixed with European designs, The Grand Palace complex, once the official home for the Kings of Siam, is unquestionably one of the Thailand's major tourist highlights. The King still uses the Grand Palace for certain ceremonial occasions and the regal flavor within its enormous royal grounds is still evident. During the tour you will visit the Royal Funeral Hall and the Royal Coronation Hall. You will have 90-minutes to spend at the Grand Palace.

The main centerpiece of the complex however is the 45 centimeter Emerald Buddha. Carved from just one piece of Jade it is the holiest and most revered religious object in Thailand. The Emerald Buddha is housed within Wat Phra Kaew, which is a very ornately decorated building whose roof tiles reach up into the sky.

Your tour will conclude at the Gems Gallery.

Fantastic tour guide and wonderful tour. Money well spent.

Our guide was ok. Not a lot of information about the actual sites. We could have purchased tickets on our own and walked around. This is a beautiful site and definitely worth seeing! Next time I visit, it will be on my own, however.

So disappointed with this tour. Our guide seemed totally disinterested and didn’t give us much info on what we were seeing. But what really bothered me was that they took us 45 min out of our way on the way home to a horrible touristy gem shop, one of those huge tour bus stops.

Palace itself was great, even though it was over 30 degrees. The tour only gets 3 stars because the tour shuttle and the guide were only so so. It took ages from the hotel to the palace and back and the tour guide was not friendly at all.

A great experience of such a large facility.... disappointed in the size of the Emerald Buddha... somehow I expected something larger.... perhaps that's why photos were not permitted... very crowded but that's to be expected... the decoration of the Halls was awesome..... the cement ballast figures were interesting.... loved the colorful pagodas and guards...

This was marveloues. All those beatyfull buildings, and a guide who knew all about it. We were lucky to be only 2 on the trip, so I would advise people to get a privat tour.

My tour guide was knowledgable and able to share with me quite a bit about the history of the capital and country. Good value for a half day tour. I combined this morning tour with the afternoon private tour of the Bangkok temples including the reclining buddha, and had a comprehensive, yet not overwhelming full day of sightseeing. The pickup site for the afternoon tour was at the Narai Hotel, so this morning tour guide dropped me off at that location. He recommended lunch at the hotel restaurant, Pepperoni. It was bit bit pricey for lunch in Bangkok, and the food was more western than hoped for. I'd recommend that the guide also suggest an alternative location for more traditional Thai food at a better value.

I guess no one else wanted to do this tour on the afternoon that I chose, because I had my own private tour with my guide Gift. She was very personable and did a great job of teaching me about the history of the Grand Palace and all its elements. She also was happy to take photos of me in front of the attractions. Thai architecture is so beautiful and this tour was a must-do. Getting around Bangkok can be a challenge with the traffic, so it was nice to leave the transportation to someone else. The tour as many other Bangkok tours concludes at the Gems Gallery where you learn about mining precious gems and crafting gemstone jewelry in Thailand. You are not required to buy anything, but make no mistake - this is a shopping tour stop.

This palace was fantastic! If the tour had just been that, it would have been perfect! Instead, after the tour you are driven a half hour across town to a high pressure jeweler and subjected to a video about their product and pushing you to buy expensive jewelry. Beware

Highly recommend, specially for a solo traveler who has limited time to tour around Bangkok. Despite the heat, and the crowd in the Grand Palace, the tour was comfortable. You will be sent back to your hotel after the stop at the gem store. Availed this tour with the afternoon Temples Tour.

This was a great tour, the tour guide Krit was very knowledgable and we learnt lots of useful phrases before the tour even got started. The Palace is indeed very grand, lots of sparkles and gold everywhere. The attention to detail is astonishing and the way it sparkles in the sunlight is a memory I am going to keep for a very long time. The only negative is the tour is short, I know it's a 3 hour tour but it does leave you wanting much more. The crowds around the Emerald Buddha take away from what I imagine would be a very tranquil experience. This is not a fault with the tour because Krit had us moving around queues with ease and if we had done it alone we would have been held up for much longer. One of the must do things in Bangkok.

Jah was amazing and the food tour was excellent...I had the chance to try many local foods, learn about the history of the cuisines and go to places in Bangkok that I would not have gone on my own...I enjoyed the food, the tour guide and the company!

They ended the tour by taking us to a gem store, where we had to watch a video and then walk through the displays. Tour guide was great and informative.

Spent extra 30mins in bus as driver was given a wrong hotel for pick up. The guides English was difficult to understand and not very informative. Palace was great and I would recommend a morning visit like we did. The gems gallery visit is just a way of trying to get you to buy jewellery and once you show no interest I was kept waiting a further 30 mins to get taken back to hotel. All in all, just 90 mins out of a 4 hour trip walking around the palace, very disappointing.

While the grand palace is a must see - I wasn't happy with the tour. Our tour guide was really difficult to understand, it was really hot and way over crowded, especially with heavier traffic than usual to pay respects to the King.

The guides only took the guests to the Grand Palace. They missed the Wat Phra Kaew and offered no explanation. Instead just dropped off passengers all at their different hotels.

The communication with the assigned tour group was poor from planning pickup to the actual tour. After several calls to the tour group, we were finally informed of our pickup time. I specifically asked the pickup driver about my attire and was told it was ok. When I was met by the tour guide I felt that I was scolded for my outfit. If I had been advised at time of pickup I could have quickly changed. Thankfully one of our fellow tourists had a cardigan for me to borrow. The tour guide was very hard to hear and understand. The bottom line is we paid the tour company for transportation and to buy our tickets.

Great to see Royal Palace and emerald Buddah but spent more time on the bus than at the place._br/_ The last stop at the gem gallery was unnecessary and a bit of a waste of time unless you were super rich and liked ostentatious jewellery._br/_ Tour guide was only average as his command of the English language was limited and if you asked questions he was only able to answer basic ones._br/_ Lost one member of the group which was worrying as there were only 7 of us._br/_ Tour served the purpose for us as sight would have been quite congested to navigate alone as it receives over 40,000 guests per day at the present time.

I would only recommend this tour in the morning as the afternoon traffic in Bangkok is absolutely horrendous. The only bad thing about this amazing country is the traffic!_br/_ We spent over 2 hours in the bus crawling to the Grand Palace. Once we arrived we ran 2 miles to the entrance of the palace as the very last group to get access for 30 mins! Needless to say the group of 15 people, all ran through the palace snapping pictures and finally begging to see the famous Emerald Buddha which was closed after 10 mins! Visit only in the morning and you will truly get to enjoy this bedazzled jewel.

The Palace should have been the high moment of the excursion . Unfortunately the guide took us through the large complex in a rush . He tried to give us information but we had NO time to enjoy . We entered maybe around 8.40, a lot of people, security ..and left the Palace maybe around 10. After we went to QSMT Sirikit museum , Thats it !!! We left the Palace and from the taxi we saw the Royal residence and then brought us to a shop /show of jewels. The guide left us there and we went back to the Hotel with another taxi . We were very disappointed ...The Palace needs much more time the rest was not important . Pity ...I will not do it again .

My guide was great and I was having a fun time riding on a boat, bus and walking through the park until I realized I had been pick pocketed and my wallet was missing. The guide was great she stayed with me and helped me to file a report with the Tourist Police. The guide kept me laughing and smiling through the whole thing. After I was done with the police she finished what of the tour she could and she made sure that I had food and water.

The tour itself is great and our guide, Betty, was very informative. There were only four people on the tour that day so not much interaction between us and the guide but was great to have a small group. The palace is very beautiful but due to the sheer volume of people it can take away a lot from the experience. We did an afternoon tour and it was extremely warm that day so perhaps choose the morning session to avoid the heat.

Good: The palace is lovely and should definitely be a place to visit when you are in Bangkok. The guide was knowledgable and shared some tidbits. I had a small group, which was nice.
