Tyre, Sidon and Maghdouche Day Trip from Beirut

Beirut, Lebanon

Enjoy a full-day trip from Beirut to the fascinating Lebanese cities of Tyre (a UNESCO World Heritage), Sidon and Maghdouche. With your local expert guide, you’ll visit three of the most beautifully preserved towns in Lebanon and discover many cultural influences. Admire wonderful buildings such as the Crusader Cathedral of Tyre, the Sidon Sea Castle and the Al-Saydeh Ancient Church in Maghdouche. Immerse yourself in a world of colorful history and spirituality on this full-day trip from Beirut.

After a one-hour drive from Beirut by comfortable coach, your day trip starts in the magnificent city of Tyre, built by the Romans. Tyre is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city notable today for its modern cityscape with high-rise buildings, but the remains of its Roman streets, arcades and public buildings, including one of the largest hippodromes of the period, are Tyre's major attractions. The inner city has also retained its industrious maritime character and its interesting old-style houses. Tour the city with your guide on a walking tour and enjoy the breathtaking places.

Continuing your day trip, leave Tyre for the breathtaking city of Sidon, a thriving commercial center serving the entire region. Admire the ruins of the Sidon Sea Castle and the Castle of Saint-Louis, known as the Land Castle. Explore the impressive Great Mosque with your guide, and hear how it was built in the 16th century on the foundations of a Crusader building. Then enjoy lunch: a selection of hot and cold meze (Middle Eastern small dishes) or tapas at a traditional Lebanese restaurant.

Next it's on to Maghdouche, a short journey away by coach. See the city’s interesting monuments, such as the Old Cave or the Al-Saydeh Ancient Church. At the town’s entrance, on a high hill looking back at the city of Sidon, stands the statue of Lady Mantara, Maghdouche's most famous landmark.

After your visit in Maghdouche, you'll return to Beirut with your local guide.

Please note: Though the US Department of State has issued a warning against travel to Lebanon due to safety and security concerns, Viator’s Lebanon tours continue to operate with no disruptions. This was a magnificent trip and thanks to Madeleine, our guide, I learned so much I was moved to go the the museum next day where I ran into....Madeleine! Really wonderful guide, fabulous trip. She speaks at least three languages and the tour was simply brilliant. Well thought out, smooth running, all around great experience. The driver Hassan also deserves pats on the back! He drive us through a short cut through a Palestinian camp and I have to say although fast, it was an enlightening experience. Five stars for this trip! Make sure you do it, and ask for Madeleine and Hassan!

Memories for a life time! I love Viator tours! I ALWAYS know I can depend on them. There were many tourists and it was a safe good trip. Several rest room breaks. Would do it again! Guide told us all the history non stop. A good tour!

A very professionally organised tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. The visits to the two sites in Tyre were outstanding and the souk visit and soap museum visit in Sidon were also very good. It was unfortunate that it rained heavily most of the day but the guide ensured we made the most of the visits. The lunch was also excellent

Make sure to not book anything with this tour company online. It's cheaper to do it with them directly, I was overcharged 10 per tour due to the fact I booked online and not in person or with them directly. This was a nice tour, Madelone was the tour guide. She was wonderful. The lunch included was huge and served by the sea and castle. Incredible. Really amazing experience. Loved seeing the old castles, ruins and Statues!

This was a great tour. The archaeology sites were amazing and beautiful. The guide was very knowledgeable. It and #39;s great to have a guide with an archaeology background like I do! There were only two of us that day so it was way to ask questions. The souk in Sidon was awesome! the view was beautiful

It was pretty surprising that the tour still wwnt ahead though the Tour company, Nadal, was left with just 2 of us as the others had cancelled. That showed their diligence in service. The guide, Natasha, was very friendly and knowledgeable, ensuring she carries us on throughout. A day well spent

Once again, as with our tour to Baalbeck, an amazing experience! We were picked up promptly at our hotel and taken to the offices of the local agency to join a party of nine (excluding the very knowledgeable guide and excellent driver - travelling in Lebanon and Beirut in particular is, in itself, an experience to live through!) After stopping at Kanaan pastry shop (where you can buy some tasty gifts) along the way, we proceeded to Tyre. We enjoyed the scenery (sea on the one side and the hills of Lebanon on the other side.) Tyre has two intriguing archaeological sites. If all the guides are as knowledgeable as ours was, you're in for a treat. Standing on the second site and being able to see Israel in the distance (16km as the gull flies) and imagine what it was like in Biblical times was a special treat. We also enjoyed the visit to Maghdouche to see the cave in which it is alleged that Mary, the mother of Jesus, met her son on His visits to the region. Sidon is also a special place to visit - we were treated to an excellent Lebanese lunch in a restaurant that is perched on the edge of the shoreline and within a stone's through of the Crusaders' castle. The old city souks are in the process of being restored and the city is apparently earmarked to become a "must visit" destination in Lebanon. We did enjoy the walk through the souks and the intriguing visit to a soap-manufacturing museum (where you can buy some colourful gifts to take home.) An unscripted dusk drive through a Palestinian refugee camp to avoid a traffic jam on the main route into Beirut was the cherry on the cake. We were dropped off at our hotel's front door after a safe and thoroughly enjoyable outing.

Sights were great and tour was adequate but rushed, basic information and questions were discouraged.

This tour was my favorite. It was awe inspiring to be in the same place that Jesus walked. Both towns by the Mediterranean offered fantastic views of the city and the sea. The tour guide was amazing and she shared a lot of local knowledge as well as the history of the region.

It was a nice tour, and we got to see a lot of interesting historical places. Unfortunately you have to listen to a lot of anti-Israeli propaganda from the tour guides along the way.

The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The spectacular Roman ruins in Tyre are a must-see and the visit to the soap factory in Sidon was very enjoyable. Maghdouche was interesting also. I would have liked more time for souvenir shopping but everything else about the tour was excellent.
