Amsterdam Day Trip from Brussels

Brussels, Belgium

Discover the best of Holland on this full-day trip to Amsterdam from Brussels. Holland is only a stone's throw away from Belgium so don't miss the chance to visit Amsterdam on a comprehensive day trip from Brussels. Cross the Dutch border and enter a land of polders and dikes dotted with countless windmills before reaching the Amsterdam area. Take the opportunity to customize your itinerary with free time in Amsterdam. Soak up the vibe at Dam Square or enjoy an optional canal ride - the choice is yours!

Following a morning pickup from your hotel in Brussels, hop aboard your air-conditioned coach and drive out of the city to begin your tour. Travel through low-lying countryside dotted with traditional Dutch windmills, before arriving in Amsterdam approximately three hours later.

First, visit a traditional craft center with your guide and admire all that makes Holland so special. See tasty cheeses, wooden clogs and beautiful pottery on display and perhaps pick up a souvenir or two. Afterwards, enjoy a little time for lunch (optional) and head off along the Amstel River and make a photo stop at a traditional, quaint windmill.

Continue on to the center of Amsterdam — passing the Dutch National Bank and the famous Heineken brewery — and perhaps take the opportunity to explore the picturesque canals on an optional boat tour (own expense).

From there, travel on to the famous Dam Square in the historic center of the city and follow your guide on an informative walking tour. Admire the Royal Palace of Amsterdam — built as a town hall during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century. Wander along tranquil canal ways and through the infamous red light district.

At the end of your walking tour, enjoy a little free time to stroll along the shopping streets at your leisure then hop back aboard your coach for the journey back to Brussels.

Great way to gain knowledge of Amsterdam and it's impact on history. Never knew the vast knowledge they had with controlling the water with levies and dams and man made canals. Really liked the cheese tour -fun to see the process. Best part of it was the boat ride - highly recommend you take this. Knowledgeable tour guide and ensured all were together and didn't miss our bus after free time. Driver did an excellent job maneuvering in all of that traffic!

Our tour guide was great. We learned a lot about not only Amsterdam, but the whole area. The dairy farm was an interesting stop also. You are left with a very short amount of free time however.

The tour was good to have a panoramic view of Amsterdam, but considering the distance and travel, recommend you take a couple of days to visit Amsterdam and see the sights. The canal tour was very nice though. Bruno was a very energetic guide and filled us in on the rich history of each place we visited. The tour was well managed overall.

Our tour guide, Bruno, was amazing and our comments are no reflection on him, but rather with the tour company itself. We signed up for this tour because pick up was offered at various hotels -- after we purchased our tour online we were instructed to meet at the Brussels City Tour office. From there we walked several blocks at a rapid pace to reach the bus. Since I traveled with my elderly parents, this created a problem for us. I would not have signed up for this tour had we known this fact. The tour should also offer a restroom break 1/2 way through the travel to Amsterdam and again on the ride back to Brussels. We liked that the tour offered direct access to a canal boat ride, but it would have been nice if the tour company either included the cost in the tour purchase price or if they gave you a heads up letting you know that the canal boat ride must be purchased with cash Euros.

Worth it for a touch of Amsterdam. Spent a few hours walking around, perhaps 3 hours, but it was nice. The visit to the cheese factory was a complete waste of time. I would not revisit only because of that.

Best place in Europe - must visit, enjoyed guided canal ride, one suggestion book 'Van Gogh Museum' or 'Rijksmuseum' in advance if you want to visit it.

Loved this day trip to Amsterdam. Great to visit a local cheese factory. We opted for the canal boat ride and learned more about the art and museums of the area and of course the canal and dam system. It's a full day as its about three hours to Amsterdam from Brussels.

Keep in mind that it is a 3 hour drive from Brussels to Amsterdam so time in the city is somewhat limited. Prior to arriving in the city center we visited an authentic cheese maker which was kind of fun but somewhat unnecessary. However, once there it is a great tour. After an overview of the city the guide provided us with 2 hours of free time to explore the city and eat lunch. Following that we all took a canal boat tour this is optional if you would like to take more time to explore the city on your own. If you have limited time or would like to get a taste of Amsterdam this is a great tour for you.

Certainly nothing close to enough time to experience Amsterdam but if you have 1 day to work with, this tour is definitely worth it.

This tour was a complete disappointment and waste of money!_br/_ The 3 hour trip each way on a bus with no bathroom was inconvenient, although we did stop at a cheese maker on the way that had dirty bathrooms, if you were desperate. Once we arrived in Amsterdam, we walked very quickly through crowds. At two or three stops, a few words were said about the buildings then we were off again. Finally at the Freedom statue, we were given free time...2 hours on our own. We never saw the Anne Frank house which is one of the reasons I booked the tour. If I wanted so much time on my own, I wouldn't have booked a guided tour that I thought would guide me through the city. I would have taken a cheaper and quicker train. ride!

I loved this trip to Amsterdam from Brussels. Bruno was our guide and was superb -- he was incredbily knowledgeable and conscientous, even though he was tasked with navigating a huge swarm of tourists through the crowded streets and corridors. Amsterdam was lovely, though there wasn't enough time to really get a feel for the city.

Long drive from Brussels but worth it if you have limited time as Amsterdam is a must see. Canal cruise was great. Cheese/clog factory was interesting too.

I had been on the Amsterdam Tour of Brussels City Tour on 26th August 2017. It was a well organised Tour and we enjoyed this trip. Mr Neven, our Tour guide was simply amazing and magnificient, the best guide that I have come across to date.I would repeat this tour just to be with him for some time.

Great tour! Guide was super friendly and did an amazing job translating in several different languages! Cheese farm is super cool! Great trip overall! Highly recommend if you don't have time to stay a few days in Amsterdam. Oh, and definitely pay the extra 16 euros for the river cruise, that made the trip ever better!

The trip was great! But they dropped us off at the wrong spot for our hotel and we had to walk a long distance to our hotel. They told us they couldn't drive under this bridge and our hotel was just up the street. It was not the correct hotel.

We really enjoyed our trip to Amsterdam with Viator. On the plus side, booking was easy although you had to confirm with Belgian office about pick up points by 9am on the day before the trip, which was difficult for us, as we were travelling to Belgium at that point!, Also the staff were really helpful in liaising with me and were brilliant in helping reunite my son with some personal property he left on the bus at the end of the day too! The guide's knowledge about both Brussels and Amsterdam was really interesting and added to the trip, making the journey to Amsterdam pass a little more quickly.

It was great- a long drive but worth it. Not a ton of time to walk around but if you plan ahead you can hit the spots you want. You can take an optional boat tour which was amazing. Groups are not allowed in the Red Light district so if you want to go you have to go yourself. I was expecting that we would be taken to the Anne Frank house but were not- that was disappointing. Other than that I really enjoyed the tour and the guide. The city is very busy, the cheese farm was also a cool experience.

This was a good tour, but not great. I might be a little biased as I am not such a fan of hop off, hop on a bus tours. If you do like those, then this is for you! The cheese farm was honestly really cool, and I would do it again just for that experience. However, we didn't receive a lot of time in Amsterdam, and I didn't have enough time to go in the Anne Frank house, which was what I really wanted to do. My advice: if you don't want to worry about traveling to Amsterdam on your own from Brussels, take this tour. However, if you want a full day to see what YOU want in Amsterdam, take a flixbus there. It's a little cheaper than this tour, and even though you won't have a guide, you'll get to decide your start/end time and plan your own activities.

Review by:   cheekycat,    May 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Our tour documentation stated a pick up time from our hotel at 8.15am as the tour left at 9.00am. At 8.40am our hotel called the company who stated the driver was on his way. Well, he picked us up at 9.00am with no explanation other than to say he was stressed, we got to the bus at 9.10am where a busload of passengers was waiting for us as as they were ready to depart at 9.00am. It was embarrassing. Then as there were hardly any seats left, we had to sit separately near the back of the bus. If you've got couples and families booked together, maybe try to pre-allocate seats so they have a more comfortable journey.

Very good trip! We spent just a few hours in Amsterdam, but the organization was perfect and we could have a nice overview of the different parts of the city. Boat in the old town, a pleasant walk in the center with free time, a few pics under a typical windmill and finally a visit to a local farm. Even if the city was really crowded, we had a superpleasant day. Of course I would have liked to spend more hours there! :

Amsterdam city centre was too crowded to enjoy the view. The guide just dropped us in city centre and asked us to go around by ourselves and meet him at the end of the day. It would have been helpful if they took us to cheese factory or tulip garden. The 75 min boat ride was boring.

You get what you pay for, which is a ride to Amsterdam and a lot of walking around the city. How the tour could have been better...spend 1 hour at the cheese factory, followed by lunch, actually give free time to explore, stop at a museum, go inside churches, etc.

Amsterdam is beautiful, and we got to see a lot... considering it was only a day tour. My main criticism is the size of the group. Sixty-two people had to keep up with a tour guide in a very busy and crowded city. And we didn't get to see the Anne Frank House, which is what I looked forward to most. I would suggest at least 2 guides, so as to split the group in half... or by language. Also lunch was very late and too short. The canal cruise and visit to the cheese farm were great.

Our tour guide Lucy was very good, with too much knowledge about Brussels and Amsterdam. It was very helpful, friendly and fun. The trip was very nice and worth it. We had enough free time in Amsterdam to explore and eat in this beautiful city. But I will definitely go back more days. The Amstelveen area where the Cheesefarm was, was lovely, and the cheese tasting also.

Overall the trip was good. The stop at the local craft center was too lengthy and could be omitted from the itinerary. The boat trip although non mandatory was a bit pricy but the experience was good.

Great tour! The cheese was delicious and it was nice to be able to have both a guided tour and free time in Amsterdam. I wish I had known the wait to get into the Anne Frank house was so crazy because I would have loved to tour it. Bruno is a fantastic guide! He offered an extra excursion to do a boat cruise through the canals which was great.

A long, long drive for just a few hours touring about 3 in a beautiful city. About an hour guided tour with the rest of the time on your own, with lunch coming out of your free time. Not nearly enough to see a city with so much. Guide was o.k. As with all guides with this company, finding toilets was not a priority. He showed us the basics, but with a large group about 40 it was hard to hear no whisperers or voice boxes or keep up. Boat ride, although optional, was really mandatory. All re-boarded the bus to drive to a location away from city center for the ride. Those not taking the boat had to wait while the others took the ride. I am not sure taking the train to Amsterdam station centrally located and walking on your own would not be a better option. But the price is low, and if you wish to avoid the hassle of traveling individually, then this tour is worthwhile.

One thing I liked about this trip is the guide who gave good explanation of where we are and what we are doing. I liked him speak about Brussels, Antwerp while we are passing by during the travel to Amsterdam. I think the stop at the Cheese farm can be skipped it is not optional in the tour, it wasted lot of time. I booked this at the very last minute as I did not have enough time to plan. But in case if you have time in advance, I would suggest travel by public transport and plan the visit it AMS by your own. You can have more time to spend.

The tours of Amsterdam and the cheese farm were excellent. There was a lot to see and do and one drawback was that our tour guide had to translate for our small group in three languages, which was time consuming and allowed for less than an hour of free time. Our tour guide was very nice and answered all questions. Aside from lack of free time to shop, we had a very nice introduction to Amsterdam. During this trip to Belgium we took three tours with Viator.

Review by:   Doreen B,    August 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The tour guide was slack and didn't seem as energectic or as informative as the other 2 tour guides we had experienced. Actually, fell asleep on the way back to Brussels. We took this trip to see the Anne Frank House but was informed could only see it if we paid the extra 32 euro and took the additional boat tour. The boat tour was good but only got a glimpse of the House as we went by. The driver seemed a little unattentive as he used his cell phone and wondered across the lanes of the road. All in all, could have done better taking a train and going on our own. Spoke to the company but no response back from them either.
