Puszta Great Plains and Kecskemet Day Trip from Budapest

Budapest, Hungary

Experience the beauty of Hungary's southern Great Plains on a day trip to the towns of Kecskemet and Lajosmizse. You'll discover Hungary's sunniest region, a land of rivers and lakes, and a paradise for lovers of fishing, water sports and horse riding.

The tour takes you on a scenic drive through the Great Plains to Kecskemet, where you will be taken on a guided walk through the town. Kecskemet is the largest town in the region, with historical monuments, nature reserves and a thriving cultural life.

Continuing on to Lajosmizse, you will be greeted with a traditional welcome drink. After an exciting performance by the famous horsemen of the region, you'll take a carriage ride through the Puszta, the typical steppe landscape of the Great Plains.

You'll then enjoy a Hungarian three-course meal with wine at a traditional tavern, accompanied by stirring gypsy music.

On your return to Budapest, you'll drive through the unique Great Plains landscape of sand dunes, grasslands, reed-lined waterways and backwaters, tiny white farms, well-kept pastures and rolling fields of wheat.

A wonderful trip to see life in Hungary outside the big city. Kecskemet was a small city with interesting sights and warm people. Puszta was a farm with amazing horses and skilled riders. The meal at the farm was outstanding. This trip well surpassed our expectations.

This was a very worthwhile side tour to the country to have made on our visit to Budapest. We would do it again.

Really enjoyed this day trip. The company sent a taxi to pick us up at our hotel and take us to the bus. Bus was comfortable and not over-crowded. Tour was conducted in English, Italian, and German, so kudos to the guide. The tour went south into the countryside to the city of Kecskemet, which has a very nice, open city plaza that includes the city hall, churches of four different religions - Roman Catholic, Calvinist, Greek Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox, plus what used to be a Jewish Synagogue which is not in use anymore as few of the Jews remained/survived World War II. I noticed the Hungarian flag flying on the City Hall had a huge hole in the middle. The guide explained that during the Soviet occupation, they put a communist crest in the middle of the Hungarian flag. In the 1990 rebellion, the freedom fighters cut the crest out of the flag, and many Hungarians still fly the fly with the hole in the middle to remind them of what they went through. Our other visit was to Tanyancsarda, an equestrian center/restaurant near the town of Lajosmizse. We were met on the road by one of the csikos riders on horseback who led the bus to the greeting station where we received a welcome drink of apricot brandy. We were taken on a horse-drawn cart to see the fields and stables. Then, there various demonstrations. I like the csikos chasing horses around a large pen, providing photographs fully worthy of a Marlboro Country ad. There were demonstrations of horsemanship, Lippizaners, and various contests. Visitors were invited to try their hand at using the whips favored by the csikos. We were given the opportunity to visit the stables, featuring the Lippizaners, racka sheep and Hungarian Grays cattle. Lunch was very well done and accompanied by roving 'gypsy' musicians. A very enjoyable day.

A wonderful day full of adventures. A great drive through the countryside. The horse show was excellent and well organized. The lunch was very tasty. We visited several historical towns. The guide was knowledgeable and was aware of everyone's ability to walk. Both the guide and the driver were very helpful and attentive of our needs. Overall, a great experience!

While a pleasurable experience in the plains south of Budapest, this tour gave us only a very short time in Kecskemét visiting the main square. Maybe this was due to our late departure. _br/_ The horses, including Lipizaners, were beautiful and well trained. The riders were skillful but appeared to lack the enthusiam expected of entertainers._br/_ The 3 course meal was copious and we were entertained by classical musicians during lunch. They were enthusiastic._br/_ A good introduction to the horse traditions of Hungary, but no x factor.

The Guide didn't tell us much, the ranch was very well kept and the cowboy show was very enjoyable along with an excellent meal and live music, the other activities that we participated in was super...bull whipping a bottle of wine off a fence competition and horse riding ..all great fun. What really upset me was the two mares pulling the wagon that we rode in were in foal, the chestnut looked almost full term, the harness banging against the clearly visible foal in her......especially hard when the wagon turned corners was upsetting. It is a stud farm and they had.30 goals last year....but I still don't know if this isn't hurting the unborn foal.

This was an outstanding trip! It was well planned and paced. The guide and driver both spoke excellent English, and they kept us informed throughout the trip. The farm visit was most interesting. We took a carriage ride, rode a horse, viewed the demonstration show, saw many other animals and topped the day off with a delicious Hungarian lunch.

A trip into the Hungarian countryside gave me a different perspective into this beautiful and diverse nation. The vehicle , driver and guide Laszlo and Laszlo were excellent , so were the arrangements at the Cszarda. The horse show was special, food and live gypsy band most enjoyable. The en route stop at Kescemet was very interesting - a beautiful, small town. All in all a well planned , well paced, enjoyable day. Thank you Eurama.

This is so highly recommended! This tour brings you out of Budapest into the countryside to experience a horse-riding show in a farm. This gives you an insight into the farming community in Hungary outside of Budapest. The lunch was also superb!

Muito bom passeio. A fazenda é fantástica. Muito agradável a apresentação dos cavalos e cavaleiros, bem como o passeio na charrete. O restaurante que fomos levados é muito bom, tanto no atendimento, quanto nas dependências e ainda a qualidade da refeição. Muito boa guia. Imperdível!

A lovely day away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our guide Ingrid was very informative, and in general the day was well organised. It's very 'touristy' with the photographer taking happy snaps at every turn which you can later purchase, but on the whole really enjoyable. The horse show was great as was the 3 course lunch with plenty of food to go round.

I feel that the tour is a little bit rush but overall I had a great time. The tour guide was quite boring inside the van perhaps, I was quite sleepy myself but she became energatic once we got off. I really enjoyed the horse-riding show and the lunch was amazing.

Our tour guide, Helena was great! She was very nice and knowledgeable about the area. By my count she, amazingly, speaks 5 languages. It was a nice trip into the Hungarian countryside and the weather was beautiful. Kecskemet is a very pretty town with beautiful churches. The Lajosmizse horse farm that breeds Lipizaners was just gorgeous and lunch at the farm was delicious. I highly recommend the tour to anyone!

Our guide Lasslo was not helpful and didn't know much when questions were asked. He was there to collect a paycheck. The stop in Kecskemet was a joke. He showed us a few buildings then left us there and told us to meet him at the bus at a certain time. He did not point out anywhere interesting to visit and did not offer to stay with us to help find a place to grab a bit to each or a drink. The people in town were rude. My great grandparents were from Hungary. I was very excited to visit, but found most people there are not happy and definitely do not like visitors. Disappointed. The horse show was good, but again Lasslo and most people at the horse farm were not interested in having us as visitors. The lunch we had was great and the 3 piece Hungarian band that played during lunch was fantastic. All the tours we booked with Viator for our visit to Hungary were terrible. The guides were a joke. They talked while you walked with them, and unless you were right next to them, you could not hear a thing. Plus when they talked, all made no effort to speak loud enough for the group to hear, and most did not have answers to our questions. Disappointed all the way around. Viator has always done good by me. I guess this was my turn to feel I did not get my monies worth.
