Tulum and Xel-Ha All Inclusive Day Trip from Cancun

Cancun, Mexico

Discover the mysterious beauty of Tulum and the stunning, natural Xel-Ha aquarium. This relaxing, all inclusive excursion from Cancun or Playa del Carmen will give you the opportunity to explore the spectacular Mexican landscape and natural aquatic life. This family friendly excursion is sure to leave the entire family in awe!

Tulum's close proximity to Cancun and the azure backdrop of the Caribbean Sea makes it the most visited of the Mayan sites in the Yucatan. Tulum flourished in late Post-classical times with buildings dating back to the 12th century. It was once an important trading port, one of the few Mayan cities still inhabited when the Spaniards arrived. Mounted on the edge of a cliff, this abandoned city towers above the beautiful white sandy beach, where the sun rises from the sea above the city walls.

You'll have a 45 minute guided tour of Tulum before departing for the short drive to Xel-Ha. Your guide will point out important sites, explaining the historical significance of buildings such as the Castle, the Temple of the Masks and the God Chaac.

A 20 minute drive will take you to the incredible natural aquatic theme park created by the Mayan gods themselves: Xel-Ha. This special place gathers the best of the Mexican Caribbean all in one place.

Home a wide variety of colorful tropical fish, you can learn how to snorkel and observe the different species up close. You'll explore cenotes (underground caves) or simply sit in one of the beach chairs and soak up the sun along the spectacular coastline!

Underground rivers flowing out to the beautiful Caribbean Sea feed an environment of creeks, lagoons, natural wells and ancient caves. Explore the underwater world by snorkeling and coming face to face with exotic underwater flora and fauna such as curious rays and French Angel fish. Other activities include cliff diving, rope bridge walking, and bicycling, kayaking, and much more.

What a great day! Pick up from hotel went very smoothly, comfortable and very clean bus transportation to Tulum. Extremely knowledgeable and entertaining English and Spanish speaking guide at Tulum. The afternoon at Xel-Ha was fantastic. A great place for adults and kids alike. Great facilities, but still very eco-friendly and natural. Highly recommend this day trip to anyone staying in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area.

Great tour. Bus stuff was fine, just necessary logistics. Tulum was beautiful. Xel-ha was great. Only small complaint was the brackish water at Xel-ha. It creates an odd distortion that hampers pictures. But great park, the split of Tulum and Xel-ha was just right

Tulum is worth seeing. Xel-Ha is the main attraction. I swam from the sea, upstream, for what seemed to be a mile. Beautiful experience. Saw many fish and a stingray.

Very interesting place tour guide couldn't not of cared less to show us anything and couldn't speak English very well so it made it very hard to understand anything he was explaining

Excellent trip, but in hindsight should have spent a day in each. Also, the extras at Xel-Ha should be made more obvious at time of booking as the prices for other activities are quite high.

This was a very good tour. Tulum is a beautiful place to go and visit Mayan ruins. Xel-Ha offers the best snorkeling spot where you can see tons of fish and don't have to worry about currents. We even had a couple of non-swimmers in our group and they were able to sit on the steps and watch the fish swim around their feet. Definitely recommend this tour!

This is an amazing tour!!! Tulum is fascinating and Xel-Ha was wonderful - I would go back there all the time if it wasn't an 11 hour flight away! Its very scenic and the water activities like the zip lines and lazy river are so fun. With this tour we had all-inclusive food which was actually really yummy in the restaurants we tried.

So, in the Important Info tab/section it is stated Departure time_br/_ 7am hotel pickup between 6:30am and 7am. I asked Viator to be picked up last from our groupbut instead, the night before the trip, I got scheduled to be picked up at 6:15am! Anyway, I missed the tour. :-

The transportation never showed up to our hotel. We had confirmed with them the morning before our trip and let them know what hotel we were staying at. The excaret experience team with the red shirts took us there after calling the company that we had paid. The mix up was the name of the hotel. Our transportation showed up at the oasis cancun, not the grand oasis Palm. This was the second time nobody showed up at our hotel to take us to the planned excursion site. Very unhappy.

Family thought this trip was great too. Francisco was our guide and would recommend him to others. Snorkeling was way better here than at Garrafon. If you do Tulum which I would recommend if you came there to see history this will reduce time spent on activities at Xel-ha so keep that in mind.

The Tulum and Xel -Ha all inclusive trip was one of the best excursions if you are staying in Cancun, Riviera Maya or Playa Del Carmen. You cant beat that it all inclusive and round trip transportation from your hotel is included. Tulum was our first stop and it was impressive to see how well preserved the Mayan ruins have been kept. Our tour guide David was very knowledgeable on the Mayan People and how they lived. He even quizzed out group on certain aspects of history. I do recommend taking bug spray, sunsceen and an umbrella because there is very little shade and a lot of walking. David did provide us with water at the beginning of our tour. Of course people are selling all of these items once you get there for a nice price but you will need the bug spray. After Tulum, our next stop was to Xel- Ha. This was truly a lot of fun in the sun. The staff, food and drinks were awesome. Lockers, towels and snorkel gear was all included. Snorkeling was so much fun and just floating in the river was really relaxing. We hopped on the bikes feeling like a kid again and met Deer on the trail. That was an eye opener. It was really breathtaking to see some people swim with the dolphins and with the stingrays. The tour through the cenote was adventurous. If this is your first time visiting I do recommend both trips to get the experience and history of the Mayans. If you just want the fun and adventure, then just book the all inclusive Xel-Ha trip. You will not regret the fun and food that you will have while there.

Our Tulum guide was highly knowledgeable and spoke English very well. He allowed for stopping in shade. Learned a lot about the Mayans. Xel-ha was awesome. Good food and drinks. Bring shoes for Tulum! Only con is that our transportation ran 30 minutes late on what we were told. A bit annoying.

The tour of Tulum was very cool and our tour guide was great and new his history. It was very hot and you should bring a bottle of water with you. I did not Xei-Ha it just was not my thing. The tour along for half day would have been just fine.

We felt Tulum and Xel-Ha in one day was too rushed. The bus was late picking us up and when they dropped us off we had to walk 20 minutes to the ruins by the time we got there we only had 20-30 minutes to look around and it was very crowded. Not enough time to take photos etc. The guide only really spoke a little English so we could hardly understand him. In the end to not waste time we left to explore on own. We were also worried about which way to get back to the bus. The tour said we would have got there before crowds.......NO WAY. We were pleased to get to Xel-HA for swim :. If you want to see both of these i recommend do one each day. TOO MUCH when you wanna take it all in and relax : Dissappointed :

Amazing! The views are so beautiful from the cliff and the water is so clear and blue. Perfect timing this spring break. The history on the Mayan Temples and how it was built. tips is to take a camera and water and of course walking shoes its quite a hike. I cant wait to come back to visit. It was an experience in a life time.

Tulum side of tour doesn't allow enough time especially with the number of visitors there. xel-ha is great, allow more time as the time doesn't allow you to fully utilise this site. if short on time this is a good option

We had a wonderful trip Because we were over an hour drive, to this excursion, we chose this combined offer. We did feel rushed at Tulum and ran out of time enjoying the fun in Xel Ha. Both rate high in our books but would have done better as a full day at Xel Ha. Can't wait to go back!!

The guide spoke a mixture of English and Spanish, and was very difficult to understand. We had an even worse experience with our Chichen tour guide two days earlier but this was still frustrating. There are plenty of good English-speaking guides in Cancun and Viator really needs to find a better local partner. On our way back the driver overshot the stop and we had to walk over 10 minutes back to the hotel, while carrying our 3-year old who had fallen asleep ... not that it was intentional, but certainly not a tour we enjoyed

A lot of time has been lost in downloading visitors to different other locations and the time spend in Tulum was not sufficient to explore the site.

The local staff were great. The locations were wonderful. The transportation and logistics were extremely frustrating and much time was wasted and then taken away from our time at activities.

Two great visits on this day trip. Tulum ruins have a wonderful scenic location by the sea but I found Chichen Itza to be far more fascinating. Snorkelling in Xel-Ha was wonderful and I was blessed to see many beautiful sea creatures, including parrot fish and manta rays. I also swam with dolphins as an extra option which was very special, especially considering the lovely natural setting of Xel-Ha. What I would caution is that the day is quite intense with a lot to fit in and you could probably spend a day each at Tulum and Xel-Ha and I could have spent much more time at both. But a good combo to get a taste of both within a day and with time enough to appreciate them. Both well worth it.

Having done the Early access Chichen Itza tour my expectations were high - and crashed to the ground. The coach journey was 90 minutes and during that time there was no cultural information whatsoever. We stopped at Xel-Ha to pick up all tickets for the day. Got on another bus to get to Tulum. The information given on that bus was abysmal, even the information about the Mayan Calendars; if I didn't have one already, I don't think she would have convinced me at all let alone given me a sense of enthusiasm. We were told to be back on the bus at 11:30. We got to Tulum at 10am. That left 90 minutes. OK... Then we were told that the English speakers would be handed over to another tour guide. Because of the mix up at Xel-Ha, we'd missed about 15 minutes of his tour which, surprise, surprise was the Mayan maths lesson (poorly delivered) we'd already heard on the way to Chichen Itza. I think we heard maybe 20 minutes of forgetful information and then left to our own devices. The bus was to depart at 11:30 but some people have no respect for themselves or other people's time, so we didn't leave until just before midday. Once at Xel-Ha, you were left to your own devices until 5:45. All tour buses leave when the park closes, so even if the time state that you leave at 4pm... clarify this before you purchase your ticket.

The Tulum trip was rushed, would have loved to spend more time at this awesome place. Xel-Ha was fantastic ! if you are short of time this tour is great, good value for money but for the keen enthusiastic tourist which I am, I'd recommend visiting these two sites on separate days.

We loved the tour and it was small and private. What a great tour guide. He was so knowledgable and was able to get us into the parks efficiently. His information on Tulum and the Mayan Culture awed all of us. We met special friends on the tour also. We LOVED Xel-Ha and would spend the whole day there with our snorkels and vests just swimming, eating and drinking. Anyone taking this tour just know that the bus picks you up but takes you to a central destination before you board your private van. Just a bit more time FYI._br/_ we loved our tour guide!!

We enjoyed the tour of Tulum but wish we had more time at the site. Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about the culture of the Mayans.

Tulum was great, much better than I expected, as there is more to the site than is shown in the iconic image of the tower overlooking the white sand beach. That said, I understand that Chichen-Itza is a much more significant Mayan site than Tulum. Our guide was informative, however he annoyingly hawked his own botles of sunscreen and insect repellant on the bus as we approached the site. this was beneath the professional standards that I would think Viator would want to present for itself.

It was confirmed that the bus would pick us up at 7.45, but it came at about 8.30. And we were transported to a travel centre first and then changed another bus. When we finally got to Tulum, it was 11AM already. Neverless to say the crowd, and the heat at noon, a whole morning time was wasted. The travel guide was OK. He tried to sell us several products on the way to the scening, like sunscreen, cellphone cell, etc. We got to Xel-ha after 1pm, and we have to get on the bus on 5.15, which means we only have a couple of hours in the park._br/_ There are lots of local agencies that provide such tour. Comparing the price, it could be much more better.

Tulum was very interesting and beautiful place to visit. The Xel-Ha also very nice place to eat, to swim and have fun. However, the people who brought us to this trip, they did not have good organization in place._br/_ They came to our hotel around 7:45. Then we went to a small mall for register (we were there for 40 minutes). Then, We spent hours to pick up or drop people. We were at Tulum around 11:00 (I believe from Cancun to Tulum takes 1 hour and 30 minutes). This mean that we spend the majority of our time to pick up and drop people and not too much to enjoy our trip in Tulum and Xel-Ha. This is not fair!!!

Review by:   Melissa M,    July 2014 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
The time at Tulum was plenty. Part of the tour was guided and then it was nice to have time to walk around on our own and take pictures. We loved Xel-Ha! It was so fun and there was plenty to do and eat. By the time we got there we were starving, so all you can eat was great. The only down-fall was the pick-up. Instead of being picked up and traveling straight to the destination, we were taken to a plaza and disbursed into groups. That was a waste of time.
