Cape Peninsula Tour from Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa

See all the top sights along South Africa’s Cape Peninsula on this full-day tour from Cape Town. With a mix of independent sightseeing and guided visits, you’ll have the flexibility to do the things you want to do, plus learn about the region from your expert guide. Explore Hout Bay and take an optional boat trip to Duiker Island. Spend time at leisure in Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and visit Simon’s Town on the peninsula’s east coast – home to a colony of African penguins! On the drive back you will have time to stop for a walk at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Leave your Cape Town hotel by air-conditioned minibus and head south along the Cape Peninsula to Hout Bay – a coastal neighborhood that sits roughly halfway between Cape Town and Cape Point. Now popular as an upmarket seaside resort, Hout Bay is a fishing village and has retained its friendly, small-town appeal. Enjoy time at leisure here – perhaps exploring independently or visiting nearby Duiker Island (own expense) to see its colony of gorgeous Cape fur seals.

Continue via Chapmans Peak to the southernmost edge of the Cape Peninsula at the far end of Table Mountain National Park to reach Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. With roughly 1.5 hours at leisure here, you can explore on your own or perhaps visit one of the reserve’s cafes for lunch (own expense). Time permitting, stroll down to Cape Point to see the actual tip of the peninsula where the Atlantic and Indian oceans collide.

On the way back to Cape Town, visit Simon’s Town on the False Bay Coast for a look around and head to Boulder’s Beach (entry at own expense) to see the town’s cute colony of African penguins.

Return to your Cape Town hotel via the pretty towns of Fish Hoek and Muizenberg with your final stop at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens -- set at the foot of Table Mountain -- and explore its stunning grounds with your guide. Kirstenbosch grows vegetation and fauna that are totally unique to the Cape Floral Region and the site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. See the rare plants and trees on a walk around the Western’s Capes very own botanical wonderland.

A MUST tour when in Cape Town...You get to see all the best sights with a guide that knows the ins and outs of each place which can be difficult to park on your own. The guide we had was amazing in general. She was so incredibly knowledgeable and we learned SOOOOO much!!!

This tour covers all the important places to see in the peninsula. It was a very good experience. The only thing I would improve is the knowledge and the guide which was ver basic.

This tour is a 'must do'. The guide was excellent and gave a knowledgeable commentary throughout. The pace of the tour was just right with sensible breaks during the day. The scenery was spectacular along the coastal route to the Cape of Good Hope and then back to the gardens in Cape Town. A small group of 7 people was perfect. I will visit Cape Town again.....I just love this place.

Everything went well. The vehicle could have had better/bigger windows, as it was not always easy to see everything. We were unfortunate that the funicular was not working that day at Cape point - but not the fault of the tour operator. We chose not to go to Seal Island. The harbour area where we had to hang around and wait was not very nice - little by way of shops and cafes. Our guide was unable to suggest anything else for us to do. As this was an optional excursion, it would have been nice if non participants had been better catered for.

Covers a lot of ground starting with panoramic photo stops followed by a boat trip to an island of seals and visits to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point where there's just about time to walk to an upper light house scheduled and a lower one not mentioned if you're a brisk walker and skip lunch. Stops as a penguin colony and finished at the botanic gardens. Guide keeps things interesting, has a history of SA to tell and leaves people to explore the various locations at their own pace. Only reason for not awarding 5 stars is that the boat trip and the penguin area aren't included and anyone who doesn't pay the extra less than R200 collectively will be standing around for 90 to 120 minutes with nothing to do.

Had an amazing time. Our tour guide was very informative. The little busses are great as there are not too many people and the tour gets on quicker and you can enjoy more attractions in a shorter time.

An excellent tour with lots of stops. We didn't have much time at the Botanical gardens at the end, but overall it was a great trip. Watch out for the baboons though, don't carry any food on you at the Cape area.

Tour was great.Enjoyed it all. Simon,s town was picturesque and the visit to the Penguins was great. So many !!! Our tour guide Ashley was very informative. The gardens are lovely and we ate there having made reservations from home. Taxis are reasonable as we needed one from the gardens to our hotel

Amazing trip. Small van pickup was a little bit behind but not due to the fault of the company, but a passenger. Guide was good, got a ton of great pics, and saw some amazing places._br/_ Highly recommend.

The guide was friendly, kept us updated when everything was happening and knew lots of detail. We packed a huge amount into a small timeframe. We probably could have stayed a few places a bit longer, as some stops felt a bit rushed. It was peak season so a lot of the rushing was to beat the bigger busses places to avoid queues, a feat which we largely accomplished. Between this and the group all sticking to the time limits, we finished the tour more than an hour early, even with an extra bonus stop or two. It still felt like we saw heaps though, and a little early is better than late for people who have places to be.

not so great. first of all, we had to wait 1 h for the boat in Hout Bay it was several other boats , but our guide decided like this. after that, we were late, so had no time to visit Cape of Good Hope photos 10 minutes. we took lunch in a nice restaurant, but the food was not great at all. and quite expansive. we had 45 minutes to descover the Botanical Garden, with no guide.our guide told us just some informations all day long this is an expansive area, we have to pay the entrance. nothing more. nice landscape

We wasted an hour at the market, which was no different than any other market. Then by the time we got to the botanical gardens near the end of the tour, we were all exhausted. I'd much rather spend more time at the botanical gardens and skip a common market with vendors selling the same items seen everywhere else.

I would highly recommend this full day tour to Cape Peninsula. I had booked this tour before leaving for our African trip. Our guide was Karen who freelances. She was most professional, knowledgeable about Cape Peninsula which made the trip very enjoyable. I feel the tour was extremely good value as we saw a lot and I particularly like the Kirsthenbosh gardens.

What a fantastic tour - packed but not exhausting, and full of lots of different experiences. Karen was a marvelous guide, and Cecil was a terrific driver. We saw penguins, did some optional hiking, visited the botanical gardens. There were plenty of choices for everyone. The group was small, so there was a minimum of waiting at each stop.

Review by:   Uland W,    October 2017 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
The guide was horrible. All he wanted to do was rush us throughout the trip. We are here for vacation, once in a lifetime experience and being rushed through the city is not my ideal way to spend the day.

Not enough time at the top of the Cape with the lighthouse or at the gardens. Should reduce number of activities to make this work better. Only 2 people went out on the water and that is probably the activity easiest to eliminate and allocate time between the Cape and gardens.

This tour is a great way to see Cape Town, we had a great day and were very happy with After reading reviews some of the bad reviews about our Guide on Trip Advisor, I have to say we had a different the opposite experience.

Elaine our tour guide was wonderful and funny! Saw the seals, Chapmans Peak for a quick picture, Cape of Good Hope for a quick picture than off to Cape Point, Penguins on Boulder Beach, then had lunch at Harbor View restaurant in Simon Town guide made reservations for the group and Kirstenbosh Garden. Our group was 9 people 3 hotel stops in total in a mini-van that can fit 12 passengers not including guide and driver. She even taught us how to say thank you very much in Afrikanns. Baie Dankie to Elaine!

It is the best way to see the Cape Peninsula. It is just so beautiful! What I like most about this tour is that we were just a small group in a van, so its easier to transfer from one place to another. We also had a good lunch at this restaurant with a lovely view of the boats and the bay. Highly recommended.

Excellent in every way. Easy to book on line. Collected from our hotel, without any hassle. Guide was very good. A full day, with lots to see. Very good value for money. Would recommend tour for anyone who has a day in Cape Town without a car.

We enjoyed the tour, the guide was knowledgable and interesting. We had a beautiful sunny day with low wind. The tour provides a good survey of the area, you may want to go back for more time at some of the attractions. The cost for lunch is not Included, but we all ate together at a Resturant recommended by our guide and it was nice.

This was a fantastic tour. Hit everything I wanted to see without having to plan it out myself. Our guide was 10 minutes early so I didn't really feel rushed at all. Had plenty of time to check out each destination for a bit before getting back on the road for the next stop. Great commentary we had Harold I believe and interesting history. Went at the end of March and the 2 hours in Kirstenbosch Gardens were WAY too much though ... most of our group just wasn't into the gardens. I'd prefer to leave off Kirstenbosch since that's close to town and add on a destination that's further away, like Muizenberg colorful houses on the beach, but that's my only complaint.

Very nice day trip in good weather! Our guide was friendly and helpful. Happy no one in our group chose the optional seal viewing boat trip from Hout Bay on our windy day. Very choppy ride around the corner to view seals on rocks. Instead, we rolled on down the coast ahead of the crowds and had gained some time for a few extra photo stops. Our guide had booked an optional lunch table at Two Oceans at Cape Point. While a little on high end pricing vs other informal options, the views and the food were great. Seared tuna exceeded our expectations. Comfortable amount of time at each stop to explore on our own. The final stop at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens was fantastic, one of the nicest gardens I have visited. This was a great first day in Cape Town for us and gave us confidence to get out on our own the following day. The driver dropped us at the V and A Waterfront, which worked out great to enjoy dinner before going back to our hotel.

The tour was fantastic. The guide was friendly, patient and very informative. He really knew his information. We got to see everything we wanted to. The Penguins were probably my favorite part, since I and #39;m such an animal lover. But I loved the breathtaking views of the Cape too. Thanks!
