Table Mountain and Cape Town Half-Day Trip

Cape Town, South Africa

See Cape Town from the top of Table Mountain, and then head into town to see the city highlights up close with an expert guide. After descending from South Africa’s iconic flat-topped mountain by cable car (ride at own expense), you’ll see top Cape Town attractions, like the Diamond Works, as well as colorful neighborhoods like Malay Quarter on Signal Hill, during a luxury minibus tour.

After pickup from your central hotel, head straight to the cable car at the foot of Table Mountain – Cape Town’s most prominent landmark. The cable car ride is at your own expense, so after you’ve purchased your round-trip ticket, head straight up to the summit of Table Mountain, enjoying phenomenal views as you ride.

Views from the top of Table Mountain are equally spectacular and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy them independently. Take a walk around and see the city laid out below you. Look over to the Atlantic coastline and, if the weather is clear enough, catch a glimpse of tiny Robben Island in the distance.

After descending the mountain by cable car, meet your guide for a comprehensive tour of Cape Town. Traveling by air-conditioned minibus, you’ll pass top Cape Town attractions in the city center, as well as lesser-known sites in the city’s Malay Quarter (Bo-Kaap) on Signal Hill. Admire the neighborhood’s brightly colored houses and learn about its fascinating history, including tales of Cape Malay slaves during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Time permitting, visit the Castle of Good Hope – one of South Africa’s oldest buildings—and see its incredible dungeons with your guide. Travel to Milnerton Lighthouse to see the beacon that guides ships in-to Table Bay, and then end your tour with a visit to Cape Town’s famous Diamond Works. Learn all about South African jewelry – the country’s most famous export – on a tour of the factory before returning to your Cape Town hotel.

Fantastic tour, left table mountain until last, the tour guide was waiting for the clouds to clear! Perfect, also meant we could spend as much time as we wanted on the mountain as lo as we made our own way back to the hotel! Awesome way of doing it! Great introduction to the city as well.

Feel we could have done just as well if we had gone on our own. Found the guide quite irritating as she kept repeating the same thing over and over . Also as it was half day it was very rushed.

Timely pick up, tour guide was excellent - blending his narrative with the history of South Africa to understand the physical environment, landscape, architectural structures, people and events. Table mountain was an awesome experience - close to the clouds!

This tour is not worth the money. After the driver picked up from hotel, the Cape Town tour consist of driving from hotel to the Table Mountain. Since there is a long wait closed to 1.5 hrs o take the cable car up the mountain and then you stay on top of the mountain for another hour, there is no time left for the city tour itself. It is better to buy the hop on and off bus ticket and use this bus go to the Table mountain Instead.

Great time, guide was funny and knowledgeable about the area! The view is must a see and you will see a beautiful view of Cape Town as long as the weather is good. Great spot for pictures and you get to see a few other sites in the area per the itinerary.

We did this trip in February and it was a great way to see some of the Capes highlight in a single day. Ian was our guide and he was good fun to be around and very informative. What was really great is that he only takes small groups, we had four in ours so you get to do things at your own pace and he will adjust the tour if you want to spend longer or less in any one place. Highly recommended....

Efficient pick-up and good guide round various bays ,Signal hill and other sites. Table Mountain covered in cloud and cable car not running.

Elaine is charming lady and great tour guide. Special bonus for noon shot was great. For businessman in short trip to Cape Town perfect how to leverage 1 day sightseeing time available.

Guide had failed to find out that the Table Mountain cableway was open. So took us there even though it was closed. Instead took us to Cape Castle fortress unaware there was a big charity walk taking place there including a loud PA system. Wasted an hour there having a coke. Guide finished the tour 45 minutes early. Pretty much a waste of time though the guide gave us a glowing review of the German school TWICE as we passed by which we did not care about. A waste of money.

Back and fourth all the day because table mountain was closed. Could have given us a better city tour since we didn't do table mountain.

This tour shall be done only if you have a lot of time to spend in Capetown. We could not do Table mountain due to the windy weather condition, so we went there the next day instead. But it is a nice tour where you get to be shown around Capetown, the fort visit was not necessary though as there is nothing there to see basically.

The view from Table Mountain is breathtakingly beautiful and well worth the trip. I have a problem with heights but the gondola ride did not give me a problem at all. Be sure and go prepared for the weather. It may be a beautiful day in Cape Town but when the winds come up on the mountain it can get very cold and you will need a hat and coat.

While the guide was very personable he was new and did not provide very much information on the history of Cape Town and we never had more than 30 minutes at any location.

Great fun tour with our energetic guide. Table mountain is beautiful but be prepared for the weather to change. Take warm clothes as it can be cold at the top._br/_ The tour of the town was great fun too with a lot of places fitted in to the time.

The tour was very good. The tour guide took his time to explain about Cape Town and its history. He took us to table mountain and unlucky us, we could not go up the mountain as it was windy and unsafe but he took us around the city.

Time on voucher was wrong had a 830am start, pick up time delayed due to traffic, table mountain queue took nearly 2 hrs after this tour was rushed , tour guide was excellent but had to keep apologising for delays, would have like to heard more about city but had to cur short due to all the delays, not fault of guide

Excellent tour! Knowledgeable guide, beautiful and interesting stops. Table Mountain is spectacular. Buy you tram tickets at your hotel BEFORE going on tour. Saves lots of time if there are long lines to get up top. Do yourself a favor and take this tour!

Our 1:30pm afternoon tour included pick-up and drop-offs, Table Mountain, the South African Museum, Diamond Works, and a quick tour of the city. The tour was fine and the guide was very nice and knowledgeable. However, I was not expecting such a short amount of time for Table Mountain! We had just about an hour on the mountaintop. The queues for the cable cars were extremely long and ate into our time about 1 hour and 20 minutes going up with a pre-purchsed ticket, and 40 minutes coming back down. We were very rushed since we had to make it to the South African museum before 4:30pm only getting about 30min in the museum after paying for it. The museum was lackluster parts of it were still under construction, as was the trip to the Diamond Works shop. We were supposed to be given a tour of the factory and a brief history of the diamond history in SA. Instead, we were left to wander about the jewelry shop while window shopping. Itinerary needs to be adjusted if Table Mountain queues are expected to be long.

The host was very well informed and friendly. Unfortunately, aside from me and my wife, no one else returned from the Table Mountain at the specified time of 4pm. They were almost 40 minutes late which meant we had only 12 minutes at a museum included in the tour. There should be a grace time limit of 15 minutes after which late comers should be left to their own fate. We suffered because of their lax attitude to promptness.

Table mountain was unfortunately closed due to heavy winds but the tour guide took us to Signal Hill to see some side of the mountain. Also made up for it by taking us to the Military museum. The Bo Kaap tour was incredibly brief but maybe that was all to see there. We felt the stopover at the diamond outlet was focused on sales and could have been replaced with more interesting sights of Cape Town. A good inclusion would have been a typical outdoor market where visitors could see real African art and craft.

Table Mountain cable car closed for maintenance so tour included Signal Hill instead. Interesting to have landmarks and notable buildings and streets pointed out. Includes a visit to the museum at Companys Gardens and a walk through the gardens. Not much time at each stop, more a series of photo opportunities, but good fun none the less.

I'm giving this tour a high ranking but it's for the places you will see versus the driver experience we had. It's unfortunate that not only was his headset not working which ensured those sitting in the back of the van could not hear BUT his heavy German accent meant those sitting near him still couldn't understand him anyway.

It is a good tour of the Table Mountain and the area. I would have given it 5 stars if we were able to take the cable car to the top but it was closed due to the windy condition of the day. Its not the fault of the tour company. It's a good thing that we didn't purchase the cable ticket ahead of time.

Wonderful day with our guide, Super, who was just that. Hotel pickup was timely and with only one other guest I felt like my family got a private tour. Straight away we headed to Table Mountain to take in spectacular views on a sunny winter's day. An hour was sufficient time with the cool temperatures before heading back down. The lines for the cable ride were short given the time of year July and it would be advisable to purchase your tickets before the tour. This can be done online and downloaded to your smartphone. The remainder of the time was spent driving through the city with plenty of stops for photo opportunities in Bo-kaap, City Hall, Company Garden, and the Castle of Good Hope. Super provided honest and unfiltered commentary with personal anecdotes regarding Apartheid and the rich multicultural history of Cape Town. Great experience for those short on time or in town for a conference.

The first place our tour guides brought us was a jewelry store? They clearly get some sort of royalty fees with. Never made it to table mountain, was dropped off and the line was 1hr and 45 min long. They said and #34;they would try and wait for us. and #34; Our driver was cat calling women out of the van window

Jacob Gasant was our guide....he was excellent....after seeing Table Mountain he took us around Cape Town and gave us the highlights. He constantly educated us. Table Mountain was as clear as a bell so the panorama was unique. The guide makes the trip....

This tour did show us the key sights of Cape Town but if you are looking for a detailed guided tour it's not for you. I felt we could have been given more information about each stop rather than just getting out of the bus and taking photo's.
