Island of Korcula with Wine Tasting Day Trip from Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Lying on a small peninsula on the island of the same name, surrounded by city walls and fortresses, Korcula is one of the most beautiful medieval cities on the Adriatic Coast. The town is also the supposed birthplace of Marco Polo, the famous explorer. Tour the charming streets and squares, with their Renaissance palaces and the magnificent St Mark Cathedral, named for the city’s patron saint.

The island of Korcula undoubtedly holds a privileged position among the Croatian islands. Here, there are more legends, tales and monuments than anywhere else. Being stonemasons, shipbuilders and seafarers, the people of Korcula shared their gifts with the world, but they saved their best works for their own city.

A bus will carry you to Orebic, where a ferry takes you to the island. Experience the charming streets, beautiful churches and magnificent palaces in the island’s city of the same name, which is also one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Mediterranean. You’ll also hear a little history of the town’s famous son, Marco Polo, who many believe was born here. After sightseeing, enjoy free time to have lunch and even go swimming.

On the way back to Dubrovnik, indulge in excellent local wine at one well-known wine cellar on the Peljesac peninsula.

The guide was excellent, Korcula was amazing would have loved another hour there. The wine tasting was okay, only did one tasting and it was sub par to the wine I had at lunch in Korcula.

We opted to do this as part of our stay in Dubrovnik as we'd seen good reviews online beforehand and the price for the entire day was respectable.

Too long_br/_ After you see the walled old town of Dubrovnik, this is less than worth the visit._br/_ A lot of renovating is going on._br/_ Only one stop for tasting wine._br/_ Korcula is extremely expensive for lunch. We paid 720 Kuna for pasta, salad, one wine and one beer! - really gauging

This was a great trip just seeing Korcula Island. Our bus guide really wasn't very pleasant, but our English guide on Korcula was awesome! Korcula is amazing! The salt museum on Ston was a flop! They run a video in a shack with a couple of dumpy chairs, the rest is your own. We needed a little extra time to enjoy a coffee and explore the fortified walls on Ston... but it was a quick stop. As for the wine tasting ... it was a joke... not enough seating for everyone on the bus, and we only sampled two wines from a local winery. Very disappointed in the tasting and the wine.

Really good tour. You can probably do it with any other company. They all go to the same places. Still recommended.

We wanted to get to Korcula for a day. This was the perfect solution as opposed to a 14 hour day using the ferry. We got picked up from our hotel at 8, had an informative guide and good bus driver, over 3 hours in Korcula and some wine tasting on the way back. Very relaxing and back in Dubrovnik before 6. Highly recommended if you are short of time.

Great tour. Did not realize that it was a bus tour....thought it was a boat but it was okay . Long drive there and back but going to Korcula is worth every minute in the bus!! Wine tasting could have been left out....helped to break up the drive back to the hotel but nothing wow.

Korcula is a beautiful place well worth seeing however despite the tour being English speaking they didn't provide a English speaking guide for our tour of Korcula. Really disappointing!!

Comfortable, clean tour bus. The tour bus and the Korcula guides were both extremely knowledgeable of their respective sites. There was ample time between stops and on Korcula for solo exploring. The wine tasting stop was fantastic. Highly recommend the tour._br/_ Thank you for a memorable experience._br/_ Robert B. _br/_ USA

We were picked up at the gate to the Old Town and travelled by airconditioned bus to Ston. This ancient Roman walled town still extracts salt in the same manner as the Romans did. Our guide was uninterresting and most people soon left her to explore this fabulous island of Korcula. The wine tasting on the way back was enlighting and was all arrived back very happy. A perfect day.

We had an extra day in Dubrovnik and wanted to get out and about without renting a car and etc. Viator's Korcula day trip was perfect for us. Reasonably priced and well-regarded, we were picked up at our hotel on-time and driven - via a comfortable bus - through the beautiful Croatian countryside. We stopped at the small but interesting village of Ston for a coffee stop and then proceeded on our way to take the ferry to the island. Our guide was knowledgable and attentave, but gave us plenty of time to wander around on our own and have personal time. The stop at the winery on the way back to Dubrovnik was a nice end to the trip.

Great tour! I wish we had more time in Ston to explore the wall, but I wouldn't take it away from Korcula! Guide was great. The drive is long, but well worth it.

While I did not prefer any of the wines during the wine tasting (too sweet for my taste), this excursion was fun, educational, and a highlight of my trip to Dubrovnik. Depending on where you are traveling from, prepare for a lengthy bus ride, but the scenery along the way is breathtaking!

Tour guide was excellent. Once in Korcula our guide Andrea was absolutely amazing, informative and funny! Korcula is stunning. Only downside was the coach trip which was over 4 hours in total round very winding roads. Take travel sick pills!

Well organized and interesting tour although there was a bit too long spent on the island. It is small and after our tour we had about 2 hours of free time, which for me was just a bit too long. The wine-tasting on our return was interesting and the guide did a great job, especially as she had a combined English/German group. A very nice trip.

I booked on to this tour as being the only sensible way of doing a day trip to Korcula from Dubrovnik in April, short of hiring a car. The itinerary was well-planned and the stops at Ston and the winery bonuses and welcome breaks in a long though very scenic bus journey. Korcula is well worth visiting and isn't just 'Dubrovnik on a smaller scale' as some of the guide books suggest, and the 3 hours or so in the centre were ample to have lunch and explore. Vlatka the guide was very informative and a good presenter. I'm normally an independent explorer but recommend this as a good introduction to the region.

Very well done, worth the day away from the crowds of Dubrovnik.

Review by:   Craig M,    September 2015 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Korcula is lovely and quaint and worth a visit. The wine tasting was fun and it was nice knowing that it was from a producer that doesn't go to the mass market and so you're trying something unique. The guide was friendly and the coach clean and air conditioned. I'm just not sure the duration of the trip 2.5hrs each way was really worth it so that's 5 hours out of a 10 hour day travelling. So based on the rating on here 2/5 It was OK, but could have been better rather than 3/5 Worth doing.

We enjoyed the trip, the only down for me was that I was expecting a longer boat trip, but we did get to see more of the countryside going by bus. The bus was very warm and the tour guide seemed very reluctant to have the air conditioning increased even although she asked if the temperature was OK. The tour guide we had going round Korcula town was great, lots of information and fun, I thing her name was Andrea.

This was a great trip from start to finish. We got picked up outside the hotel as agreed on time and were met at the new port by our tour guide. Ivana was great fun and spoke great English and German. We had a lovely drive up the coast in an air conditioned bus which was a god send on such a hot day. We then got the ferry across to Korcula where we had three hours to explore. Ivana did a walking tour but we were unable to go on this due to my friend being on crutches. Ivana and the bus driver made things as easy as possible for her. The Island of Korcula is beautiful and well worth the tripup the coast. On the way back we stopped off at a winery for a couple of samples which was great as it meant we could all have a sleep on the way back to Dubrovnik. I would highly recommend this trip.

Very good trip. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and gave a very informative tour of Korcula old town. The coach was very clean, comfortable and air conditioned. The drive up the coast was spectacular. The visit to the winery gave an interesting insight into Croatian wine production and it tasted good too.

What a lovely day out!! And even with it being a long day it did not feel that way at all. The coach was comfortable and clean. The driver and guide well spoken and friendly. The guide was very knowledgable about the whole area we travelled through and even shared a few quirky stories. She spoke English and French fluently as well as her native laguage. I thought this to be really well done and she made the whole group feel included. _br/_ The views on the drive was amazing even with the high drops to the cliffs below and the narrow road We stopped in Ston and had enough time to walk around the town and explore a bit before driving onwards. _br/_ The ferry was clean, comfortable and well kept and manned. The timing of when and where to meet was well communicated and we did not have to wait at all. _br/_ I did not expect such a good introduction to Korcula and the short walking tour of the old city part but was pleasantly surprised and very pleased. Again our guide knew the area well and shared her information with us in a really nice way. _br/_ It was very unfortunate that being so early in the season not all the shops and restaurants were open yet. But the few that was had great service and good quality products. I had a lovely pasta lunch with an amazing view. I would love to return again and maybe see more of the whole island especially a bit later in the season when all the shops and restaurants are open. _br/_ On the return trip we stopped at a small winery and the owner gave us some history about the farm and his family together with the lovely wine we tasted and some local cheese. I thought this really concluded the day well and put everyone in a nice mood to go home and have some dinner when we get back. _br/_ The small size of the group really made it appealing to me as I do not like big groups so the whole experience was positive and enjoyable. _br/_ I will happily recommend this tour.

It was a long travel to get the boat to Korcula. The bus air conditioning was not working n it was like a sauna but the company made sure there was a new bus waiting for us coming back from cruise. The winery had only dry wine which I didn't like but hubby did

A long day. First stop was Ston which really doesn't produce salt anymore is a more like a movie set for salt production. Next onto the island. Very pretty, our guide Ivana did a nice job with not much to work with here, she was really knowledgeable re: history, etc. On our own for lunch - Ivana pointed out a great restaurant, then onto the wine tasting. Really this was more of just a stop with a few samples. I really don't think they should call it a wine tasting. It is more of a visit to a winery.

You cannot miss this trip. From the stop in Ston, to the village of Korcula, everything is amazing. I loved our guide in Korcula. She was funny and witty and gave us some excellent info. I had the best lunch there of my whole trip and I love that it was sitting sea side! Well organized and plenty of on your own time. It was perfect!!

A very enjoyable day. Andrea our guide was lovely as was our guide (also called Andrea) in Korcula, who was very informative and highly amusing. Korcula town is a lovely little spot. I am surprised no mention is made in the tour literature of the stop-off at Ston when just over into the Peljesac peninsla. It is an amazing place with the longest complete fortress walls around a town in Europe going right up the hillside - you get very good views with reflections if you pay a small amount to go into the salt pan area. I would rate this bit of the tour more highly than the wine cellar.

Korcula is a beautiful place and being relatively small, easy to get around in. There was plenty of time for lunch and wandering the town as well as a good guided tour to start. The local guide was excellent with a great repertoire of funny stories and comedy lines. She could have done a stint on stage! An added bonus to the tour was a stop off at Ston (with the spectacular walls!) on the way but sadly not enough time to explore the walls. The vineyard stop on the way back is also interesting. The only downside was that this was a mixed English/German tour and the repetition in 2 languages becomes tedious. Fortunately on Korcula itself the two language groups split up for local guiding.

All arrangements were fine, and the island visit was one of our favorite experiences on our visit to Croatia. However, I was disappointed that the tour was primarily by van. When the advertisement said it was to be by "van and boat," I wrongly presumed that it would primarily be a boat trip from Dubrovnik to Korcula. For clarity, it would be good to advertise more clearly, such as "by van and a short ferry ride.".

bustrip from Dubrovnik is too long, it takes to much time to reach the boat to the island of Korcula,_br/_ the boattrip itself was only 10 min. and the boat was very old and dirty_br/_ the guides in french and english were friendly and ok

Destination was beautiful but the ride there was a bit tedious- a large group on a bus where guides were translating in 4 languages - never a quiet moment.

Review by:   Andrew C,    August 2013 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
There was so much more to this tour than just the island of Korcula, a long coach ride along the coach was a great way to see some of the rural parts of Croatias beautiful coast. Also included were stop offs for the town of Stol and some vine tasting (and of course the chance to buy) at a rural home vineyard. The Island itself, which is very beautiful, Venetian in many ways however is a little limited in the amount of things to see whilst there. That said, the whole day itself the sightseeing along the way and the town of Korcula, is still recommended as a lovely day out- but beware of the heat, it can be immense.

This was an excellent day trip out of Dubrovnik. We were picked up at a local hotel and taken to the tour company's depot where we joined tthe coach and were introduced to our guide. Guide was excellent.....entertaining and had a good knowledge of the area. We stopped at Ston on the way to Korcula. an interesteing little village worth a quick look and a cup of coffeee. Korcula is a beautiful island...well worth seeing. We had a local guide there who gave us a short but very interesting tour of the old town. Lunch at a waterside restaurant was great. Stopped at a winery on the way back. Not bad but not overly exciting. The only negative was that it did take nearly an hour to drop everyone off at various hotels when we got back. Not so good if you are one of the last. Overall though it was a very good day trip....very interesting, some beautiful scenery, great value

The island tour was relaxing and worthwhile. Found the bus commentary a bit tedious with long and unclear descriptions in 3 languages. Wine tour at the end a bit unnecessary
