Ston and Korcula Island Day Trip from Dubrovnik with Wine Tasting

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Croatia on a day trip to Ston and Korcula Island from Dubrovnik. First visit the 14th-century town of Ston, where you’ll enjoy a guided walking tour and have free time to explore on your own. You’ll then board a boat in Orebić for a ride to beautiful Korcula Island, where you’ll have another guided walking tour and visit St Marco Cathedral and the supposed birthplace of Marco Polo. A wine tasting (included) at a Croatian winery is the perfect end to this tour.

Journey to some of the most beautiful places in Croatia on a day trip from Dubrovnik. Enjoy pickup at your hotel, and then take in views of the city as you make your way out of it. Stop on the Dubrovnik bridge for a panoramic photo opportunity of Dubrovnik before continuing along Adriatic coast to the town of Ston.

When you arrive in Ston, learn interesting facts about the 14th-century town while enjoying a sightseeing tour from your minivan, after which you’ll have free time to explore more on your own. Wander around Ston's medieval walls that circle the whole town, and have a refreshment or sample the local delicacy -- oysters -- at a local bar (own expense).

Continue towards Orebić, taking in the beautiful panoramic scenery of the vineyards and old settlements of the Peljesac Peninsula as your guide tells you about the peninsula’s wineries and mussel-breeding.

In Orebić, board a boat and admire the striking blue color of the Adriatic as you make your way to Korcula Island. Wander around the streets of Korcula with your guide and see how nature, history and local culture merge together. Next, visit Marco Polo's supposed birthplace, St Marco Cathedral and other historical landmarks. Have free time to explore more on your own and have lunch at a local restaurant (own expense); then meet your guide and return to Orebić by boat.

Back on your comfortable minivan, admire the Croatian countryside on the drive to Potomje, where you will visit one of Croatia’s most famous wineries. After a guided tour of the winery, enjoy a wine tasting, as well as samples of brandy and liqueur , accompanied by a sommelier.

Finally, relax on your vehicle and admire more views of the landscape and Adriatic Coast on the drive back to Dubrovnik.

This was a lovely tour filled with history and culture. There was free time to explore Ston and Korcula. Our guide gave us excellent suggestions of activities, shops, and restaurants to try. The winery is lovely with all local wines unique to the area. This tour was a great way to introduce yourself to Ston and Korcula, and we found many reasons to come back and explore more!

Quite a long drive but made better seeing Croatia's beautiful coastline. Chris the tour guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer all questions.

I went in late October. Pretty much everywhere in both Ston and Korcula was closed. Very disappointing and surprised the tour was offered at thE time considering. Even the Marco Poli museum was closed. The only good part was the wine tasting and the wonderful driver.

An exceptional tour with wonderful views of the coastline and many of the islands of Croatia. Our first stop was at Ston, a medieval town where we stayed for an hour to walk round and take refreshments. There was insufficient time to walk part of the wall from which we would have been able to take photos as there was a lot to fit into the day.

Interesting day out on a well planned and executed tour. We thought the wine mostly tasted terrible but the wine estate itself was interesting to visit though!

Loved KOrcula and the wine tasting. The ride was scenic also but the guide barely spoke, maybe his English was minimal but he was an excellent driver. Would be better if a few scenic photo stops were included in future tours.

Our driver wasn't very informative about some interesting points, an places we were to visit, we drove for about 15 minutes before he introduce himself. Also we weren't given a map to follow our day procedures, which a lot people like to do, but overall it was a lovely day, but not as good as other tours we have.

transport -- first class ,we were a very small group -- to the boat -- the Island tour could have been better with personal audio, but we had plenty of time to wander on our own.The town is quaint and easily explored. Enjoyed inexpensive lunch with good views .Stop into the small Museum and skip the Marco Polo hype.

Perfect weather day for it and the oyster stop was certainly a a great way to end the trip.

This was not a great experience. Our guide didn't speak very good English, didn't have much knowledge or explain a great deal during the day and didn't have the license to guide us in Korcula city. The agenda itself is great, Ston is a nice little stop and the oysters on way back were yum!

The tour was good, relaxing. The tour guide the driver Chris was great. He gave us plenty of information, answered a lot of questions. Ston is nice small town but not much to see. The drive was was beautiful, a lot of scenery. Corcula is a very interesting place. Unfortunately the tour guide in Corcula was not good at all. Her English and knowledge was week, For example she stopped us in front of the bakery and told : this is a bakery, they bake great cookies. This is not what I expect from tour guide. So we went in old town by our-self then after strolling in old Town went to the beach and the beach was great. So aside from the tour guide everything was great. I think The Viator should choose the guides more careful then our guide Marinella I hope i spell her name correctly.

It was a lovely trip out of Dubrovnik with fantastic views along the way. The view on Korcula island were amazing with the azure blue skies and emerald sea and that was the redeeming factor in this trip. There was no local guide during the walks, as advertised. The bus driver doubled up as the guide. He did provide a detailed history of Croatia in English during the drive and would tell us what to see at Ston and Korcula but we were left on our own to explore. It would have been better if there was someone to explain the rich history behind the sights. A separate guide who came along the trip was guiding only one of the foreign-speaking passenger. The French-speaking passengers did not have a guide. Despite being emailed regarding my choice for lunch, there was no lunch provided. But we found a lovely restaurant with great food and views. The winery was small, however there were many liquers and a few wines provided for tasting. _br/_ I was aware that this trip would include a rather long drive but the views along the way and on Korcula made up for it. I did get slightly carsick. The driver did navigate the bends as gently as he could and the mini bus was comfortable.

Our guide, Alex, was very good! He stopped at all the picturesque points for a photo stop. We also stopped in Ston for about 45-60 minutes. The choice was to walk part of the walls, go to the salt area, or have a coffee/pastry. He gave us a brief overview of Korcula Island but said that he wasn't able to go into the Old Town. Since it was early in May and some attractions were closed, he asked if we wanted to shorten our time in Korcula and eat in Mali Ston. Everyone agreed, so if you wanted to eat the oysters, that was an option. We also stopped to try the wine tasting at Matusko Wines which was fun to do.

One of the best tours I ever had ! The chauffeur picked us up at our hotel very early and drove us to our first stop in Ston, a medieval city of another age, specialized in salt lake production and surrounded by city walls. Then We took the scenic drive to the port of a little town opposite to Korcula Island and enjoyed a trip on a charming boat enabling you to take amazing pictures on your slow arrival by sea to the Island. Once there our local guide gave us some historical and religious facts about Korcula and then we had enough free time to enjoy some visits museums and souvenir shops and lunch at one of the rare opened restaurants it was the last day of the season. The photos we took were absolutely stunning and the weather summer like in the last days of October. Then we caught the boat back to our parked minivan and we drove to a local vineyard for à Wine testing event. It sounded a little too long to us and our teen ager but our trip fellows were delighted. We had the opportunity to buy wine, olive oil and liquors. Then our chauffeur drove us back to our hotel and if we were exhausted we were also marveled by the beauty of nature and cities we had visited in such an enjoyable way. Gabriel our chauffeur and guide from Bosnia was very nice and knowledgeable. He took great care of the group.

The tour guide did not arrive, so we did not get much background on the sites. The driver did well, but was not familiar with the history of the cities.

We went to this trip and was a little disappointed - the Korcula island is not much to see. The good thing was that you can go to the beach. The Ston was interesting and wine testing as well. Beside that - the tour guide was very good.

Antoni was the best driver! He made the whole trip interesting and fun. I bought sea salt at Ston. We loved Korcula. Beautiful stop. Take your swim suit. There is time to swim. Wine was a good stop but did not buy anything.

Great trip in 6 seater Mercedes car. So comfortable. Good balance of time at stops. Korcula is so beautiful and only 15 min crossing. Pleasant companions and excellent driver/guide. Value for money indeed.

Korcula is a not miss. We had about 8 people in a very nice 16 passenger van. I would have preferred to have Ston stop on way back so I could try the oysters. Our driver was courteous and helpful but I would have enjoyed a longer trip with a tour guide. The winery visit was a plus. I would definitely do it again

Ston and Korcula are special places. If you like small places, this is the tour to taske.

Review by:   Judy H,    October 2015 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
There is nothing much to see in Ston. There was some time spent there but actually no walking tour or guided tour there. So you are on your own. Korcula is really nice but the same comment, the guide will not actually do a guided tour while there but will just lead you to the place. You will have to go around on your own and figure out which is which and there is no local map to guide you. Basically the tour is just really providing a transport to the area.

This was a last minute tour for my family and I was unsure that everyone would like it. That said Korcula was amazing and provided a much more relaxed atmosphere than that found in Dubrovnik. I wish we could have spent more time from our holidays there. In addition the stop at Ston where we had an amazing meal of mussels was a great way to end the day trip

All our day trips from Dubrovnik were excellent, and this one was no exception. Breathtaking landscapes and seascapes, the color of the water, the shape and style of the buildings, everything was a nice experience. Highly recommended.

It was a long day but worth it. There could have been more information given at Ston it really turned out to be just a coffee and toilet break when there is clearly much more to it. Korcula was fabulous and the organisation of the day getting the boat etc was excellent. The guide was very knowledgable and a good driver. The visit to the winery topped off a great day.

I was under the impression we'd be on a boat from Dubrovnik to Korčula Island and stopping at Ston inbetween. In reality, all 9 of us were in a van on winding roads for 2 hrs there and 2 hrs back. The ONLY good part was finally getting to Korčula but could only stay for 2 hrs- had to get back in the van

Review by:   Ramona F,    June 2015 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
First on bus, last off 90 minutes for pick up and drop off. Guide was pleasant but did not share much in way of history. Ston could have been made much more interesting with information on the processing/mining of the sea salt for which the town is known, instead we got to look through a fence at the location of the mine and then had 30 minutes to explore the town. That is not enough time to explore the old walled city. Then on to Korcula by boat. Again very little information was given and entrances to the cathedral and Marco Polo's house was not included. Wine tasting was fine. Tour Agency used by Viator was Super Tours. In retrospect I wished my husband and I had arranged our own transportation and not taken this tour. Ston and Korcula are very interesting and worth seeing.

Ston was well worth the visit, but the main attraction was Korcula. Like all of Croatia, it was beautiful. There was a quiet stroll around the old town with a well informed guide and plenty of free time to explore or have lunch at your own pace.

The tour was really good. We didn't leave at expected time but that was due to people failing to turn up. Comfortable vehicle, good guide/driver. Enjoyed the walk on Ston city walls, optional! Korčula was amazing - mini Dubrovnik. Worth a visit. More wine at tasting next time please ;)

Guide missed a lot of opportunities to tell us about the area. Seemed more focused on the logistics and less on being a tour guide. She was polite and friendly, just not what I expected from a guide. _br/_ The Tour stops were interesting. Ston is a little village - we arrived so early that nothing was open. We wandered around for about 20 minutes felt like we were invading their privacy. We could see the famous walls and took a quick picture of the salt factory through the fence._br/_ Korcula is a quant island worth visiting. It was nice to have time on our own to wander, shop and have a bite to eat. The main church is amazing. It was interesting to see the supposed home of Marco Polo, but there is not much too it - not worth going inside, it is just a set of stairs up a small tower with pictures on the walls._br/_ The stop for wine tasting was a nice diversion. The wine, well the white was refreshing and the dessert wines pretty good. If you like red... I would skip it.

Completely pointless guide. Was more like an escort for each means of transport. Didn't get an overview of Ston or Korcula - no guided tour in either place. No mention of the mussels as in the description of the tour - that's in Mali Ston, I found on Wikipedia. Three hours in Korcula are a bit much with very little context. We got no commentary on the bus of the wine region - just got taken to a vineyard where you stayed in the shop, tried wines and then you could buy. The guide didn't know anything about either the vineyard or the wines. there was no tour or even glimpse of the vineyard or winery. For the price, quite disappointing. Could have done all of it with a car by ourselves.

Not as advertised. All of the stops and ferry ride were in combination with 2 other large tour groups which made for a horribly cramped experience. The tour group was larger than advertised and we did not receive walking tours at Korcula or Ston. Only 1 wine tasting, no liquor tastings, no oyster stop in Ston. I recommend finding another tour that will make these locations/events more worthwhile.

This tour was amazing, as was our guide Ivana. It rained, but the people in our group made the most of it. Korcula was beautiful, and we had the best pizza at a restaurant pointed out by Ivana. The wine tasting was good, we weren't limited to how many we could try. I highly recommend this tour!

The weather was great, the company was great and the guide was great. The driver on the other hand spoilt the trip for most of the guests. He overtook on bends, drove far too fast and didn't turn on the AC full for those seated at the back of the bus. The places however were very interesting. Ston had its old walls which can be climbed but sadly we did not have the time. Korcula is a pleasant looking island with plenty to offer the tourists. The winery stop was brief - could have stayed longer with perhaps more of a walk around the grounds.
