Jasper National Park Wildlife and Waterfalls Tour

Jasper, Canada

Discover why the Maligne Valley is the highlight of any visit to Jasper National Park. On this breathtakingly scenic half-day tour, take in impressive waterfalls at Maligne Canyon before continuing up the valley to Medicine Lake. Along the way, watch for iconic Canadian wildlife, frequently spotted in this area. As you arrive at the valley's jewel, experience the wild beauty of Maligne Lake on a 90-minute scenic boat cruise or set off on a guided walk along the lakeshore.

This half-day experience departs from Jasper twice daily. On board the comfortable, air conditioned minibus, you will explore a section of Jasper National Park, known for its abundant wildlife and breathtaking scenery. Your naturalist guide will highlight the unique features of the valley while you keep watch for bear, moose, elk, wolves, big horn sheep, eagles and even the odd marmot!

A stop at Maligne Canyon features a short walk around the upper reaches, offering spectacular views of waterfalls and hidden fossils, viewed from the footbridges spanning the deepest sections of the gorge. This leisurely walk allows plenty of time for photos and nature interpretation.

Continuing up the Valley, you arrive at the 'disappearing' Medicine Lake, with the amazing geology that has created the Karst Topographical phenomenon, causing the lake to completely drain every year.

The final destination and the highlight of the tour is the world famous Maligne Lake, which features a 90-minute cruise to Spirit Island, a true icon of the Canadian Rockies! You will have the choice of joining the cruise or accompanying your guide on an easy 3.2km lakeside hike. Prior to departing back down the valley, you may purchase lunch or snacks at the View Restaurant, which offers a wide array of homemade soups, stews, chilli, sandwiches, salads and a variety of baked goods and beverages.

This tour travels through prime wildlife habitat, giving you excellent viewing opportunities. Wildlife encounters are frequent, however, everyday is unique in Jasper National Park. This is a natural environment and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Tour includes complimentary pick up and drop off from Jasper Hotels.

This was a wonderful day out and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise on Maligne Lake. Our driver was great and kept us well informed all through the trip and made every effort to find wildlife for us which included elk and moose but sadly no bears. Would definitely recommend this tour

The tour guide, Ross, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He pointed out some interesting features of the waterfall that we would have missed if we had gone there on our own. He went out of his way to make the trip special, for example, showing us Lake Maxwell when it was absolutely calm and we could take a photo of the mountains mirrored in its water. Such calmness was unusual for the time of day we were there. We even saw some elk.

Very informative tour guide. The boat ride on the lake was OK but not great, I'd suggest continuing with the nature walk if you are ok with walking 3.2 KM

We were picked up at our hotel. The bus was very nice and air conditioned since the temperatures were reaching 80 for the day. Was nice my husband could enjoy scenery instead of watching traffic. Guide was very informative and we stopped at many interesting sites along the way to and from the lake. Did not see any wildlife though as I guess it was too warm. Did see an eagles nest and eagle In a Tree from a distance. There was an opportunity for lunch at the lake. As busy as the parks are it was wonderful doing the tour as we were able to get right to our stops and park with no problems. Glad we did tour.

Our tour of Maligne Canyon and Maligne Lake with the boat cruise to Spirit Island was excellent. The weather cooperated and we had a beautiful warm fall day. Our tour guide, Marie did an outstanding informing us of the history of the area as well as the wildlife that we might see, the plants and the spectacular views where she stopped for us to take photos. I highly recommend this tour.

Saw one bear, but otherwise not much of a wild life tour. Waterfalls tour was very short. The Maligne lake was awesome!

We had a great tour of about five hours. Partly a hike to see a beautiful waterfall and a lovely drive. Then some time by Lake Maligne which is gorgeous and a boat ride. So much fun. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting inflormation. He managed to find some wildlife and even a pair of bears which everybody on the bus LOVeD.

The tour guide was knowledgeable and interesting. We did see a lot of animals. The route was just a standard route in the Jasper area that you can take on your own.
