City of David and Underground Jerusalem Day Tour
Jerusalem, Israel
Discover the City of David in Jerusalem on an essential day trip. Formerly the settlement where King David established his Kingdom, the City of David is now a thriving archaeological park where ongoing excavations confirm many a Bible story.
Departing from central Jerusalem in your air-conditioned coach, your first stop is the Mount of Olives for scenic views over Jerusalem. From this vantage point you will see Temple Mount Esplanade of the Old City, where heaven is said to meet earth.
Traveling along the Kidron Valley you will pass the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed prior to his Crucifixion, before continuing to the walls of the Old City. From here, take a short drive to Mount Zion to visit the tomb of King David – the second King of Israel, famed for the David and Goliath battle. Close to his tomb is the Hall of the Last Supper, where Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples.
Enter the Jewish quarter via the Zion Gate (David’s Gate) and explore the four Sephardic synagogues from the 16th century, which have been restored to their former grandeur. Envisage how the wealthy Jerusalemites lived it up over 2000 years ago at the excavated Herodian Mansions. Once occupied by the rich, Jewish Temple priests and their families, these former luxury mansions were built on terraces (one of top of the other) so that each one had an unrestricted view of the temple.
Just south of the Old City, your day trip will head over to the narrow ridge running down from the Temple Mount. This hilltop ridge is the area of Jerusalem known as the City of David, captured by King David over three thousand years ago. Above ground, the City of David is a vibrant hive of activity, but it is underground where recent excavations reveal the most exciting archeological finds of the ancient world. Here you can sense the geographical significance of this striking ancient city before returning back.
Our tour guide was excellent and we learned a lot. He also had a nice personality and a good sense of humor. This added up to a great day. We learned a lot and had fun.

The guide was an old man of 72. He spent a lot of time talking about his political views totally un-related to the subject. He also liked to talk about his career as a photographer, not about history as much.

Excellent tour with very knowledgeable and personable guide, Ornit. A part of Israel we really didn't know existed.

I was very surprised how in-depth our guide explained what we toured. Our group had many questions and our guide did an admirable job with answers. I highly recommend this tour because you will get an experience that you can't possibly get on your own. If you decide on this tour, here are a few tips: 1 Take a backpack to hold your water bottles 2 Wear comfortable shoes, but not sandals 3 Bein Harim tours will pick you up, a white micro bus, and drop you off at a staging area. There you will be divided by specific tours and assigned a bus. That will be your group for your specific tour. I'm telling you this because it is not explained on website. 4 Be prepared to walk many steps 5 Make sure your camera battery is fully charged 6 You will have great time!

Initially the tour got off to a late start but other than that it was great. Moshe was a very knowledgeable and passionate guide who obviously enjoyed his occupation. My wife and I really enjoyed the small intimate group experience and the sites were amazing._br/_ Highly recommended.

The day was quite cold and rainy--42 F--but the way it was handled by our guide, Gil, was truly outstanding. He is an excellent guide with great knowledge and sophisticated understanding of what he is showing. I would recommend him for just about any possible tour in Israel.

This is a tour for young and whose in pretty good condition thought I was as it starts in the valley and you walk up to the Western Wall. The passage is wet, hot and very narrow in places. I got sick from the heat about half way up. Thinks to our great guide Yoni Dinur for getting me to the top and back to the hotel. All in all, in was a good experience and was interesting with much good info from our guide about the tunnels.

Our guide Ofel was incredibly knowledgeable about Ancient Israelite culture and also gave us an awesome insight into the lives of present day people in Jerusalem. He did remarkably well given that there were elderly people on our tour (tip: this is a walking tour and not suitable for elderly people or small children - there are a lot of steps!) We really enjoyed getting information about the fascinating cultural history that makes up Jerusalem.

The tour guide, Myan, was unbelievablely knowledgable on the subject. Did not like the bus, very small and crowded but we did not have to spend much time on it.

The guide was amazing and very helpful and knowledgeable. We had a small group of 4 people on the trip and it was arranged to more to our likes than a large groups would be. Very interesting sights!_br/_
There was not Underground Jerusalem on the tour we were above ground the entire time. We did go through 1 tunnel in the City of David but that was only 15 minutes of the entire day which I felt was disappointing. I also did not remember the entrance fee to the City of David was not included in the tour and was surprised by this. Good tour but not as described.

The tour was great. I was picked up within ten minutes of the scheduled time, and a lady entered my hotel lobby announcing my name clearly so that I knew it was my tour. We drove to a location to switch busses and another location at a hotel to get the proper guide (jews only are allowed in the jewish quarter of the City of David, I presume, and similar for other places) and use a restroom before the tour.

Our tour guide, Zahi Shaked, was excellent, knowledgable and enthusiastic. However the tour was significantly shorter tan advertised.

Ok let me start off by saying that this trip was very interesting. But I also need to say... bring your sheckles... There are alot of places off the beaten path with this excursion and...well... they all have seperate admission fees. Regardless of that I would still have done it again. Make no doubt this is a walking trip and you will cover many miles so bring good shoes. You are able to see many different denominational synagogues that although the common denominator is Judiasm there are differences in each building. You are taken through the City of David and to the Western (Wailing) Wall which is a beautiful experience. For the "Underground" you go through the excavation sites that have unveiled many layers of history. It is amazing to see how the city was destroyed and artifacts left behind... rebuilt and then destroyed again leaving another layer of history. As long as you bring your wallet it is a stellar trip.

Was disappointed in this tour as guide did not seem to know the underground tunnels were part of the tour and was quite off hand with our enquiries.Ended up leving the tour and doing tunnels by ourselves

It was very caotic, we got wrong informations about the time it would take for the tour. Not everything that was in this tour we saw. A lot of children were also there, we could have gone there earlier before the schools came and so on.
