Krakow Half-Day Tour by Trabant

Krakow, Poland

The best way to tour the lovely city of Krakow is in a Trabant, the classic Eastern Europe car. You'll experience the real Krakow on this lively tour, and visit parts of the city that go unnoticed by most visitors, in the company of your young and enthusiastic guide.

Krakow is an old city, even by European standards, and one of its greatest assets is the fact it has never been razed throughout its long and tumultuous history.

After being picked up in a genuine Trabant automobile, your tour begins with a visit to the Nowa Huta district, Krakow's famous communist enclave. Originally a gift from Stalin, the working-class quarter boasts some classic communist architecture. Your guide will share first-hand accounts of what it was like to live behind the Iron Curtain.

Next, you'll visit the city's historic burial mounds, some of which date back to pagan times. The mounds were built as a memorial to Poland's most famous leaders and provide great panoramas of the city. From this vantage point, your guide will point out some of Krakow's more unusual landmarks.

The tour ends with a trip to Krakow's Jewish quarter. After being razed by the Nazis during World War II, this area is slowly being revitalized and is now home to the city's artist community. It's lined with great pubs and cafés, and you will definitely want to come back later to enjoy Krakow's authentic nightlife.

My brother and I did not fully know what to expect on this tour, but when a communist era vehicle pulled up in front of our hotel in central Krakow, and a wonderfully friendly and down to earth woman got out and told us to hop in, we knew it was going to be an unforgettable experience. We went to Nowa Huta, explored the Kazmierz, enjoyed a flea market and got some pretty cool tips for off the beaten path Krakow! It was laid back and very refreshingly different than the average tourist sightseeing. The car is not a luxury vehicle by any means, it’s definitely an adventure and if you need luxury, this is prob not for you. Five stars all around.

This tour was definitely a highlight of our time in Krakow. Absolutely fascinating and fun trip which lets you see a whole different side to the city. Our guide (Goshka?) was excellent and we had a lot of laughs. The and #39;private museum and #39; in an old apartment was a nice touch. Not your standard tour!!

Superb fun..Our guide was a lovely man with so much knowledge and enthusiasm for Krakow. He made the history of the city come alive and his green Trabant was so much fun to ride in. A brilliant tour.

Guide very enthusiastic and personable but a little over talkative. _br/_ I was disappointed not to get a drive of the Trabant, a walk in the Jewish Area or a visit to the Milk Cafe that the guide said was closed. _br/_ Great to experience a drive in the Trabant but the visit to the ex-communist area was uninteresting. Like the 50's in Ireland. No visit to the actual steel works - only outside._br/_ THe guide, helpfully stopped briefly at Wawel Castle for me to get a photo and he left me off at a convenient point in Krakow._br/_ Not worth the extra for the Half-day Tour!

Our guide was fantastic! She was an amazing communicator and had in depth knowledge and understanding of Krakow, its history throughout all of its somewhat mixed experiences, its special characteristics and features. After this tour we felt that we really understood how Krakow developed to where it is now and that we had seen all of the important sites._br/_ The Trabant is an amazing car, a real throwback to earlier days. Our guide drove it really well and it's obviously not easy to do that! Don't miss this tour!

This is a fantastic tour. Pick up from the hotel was punctual and the guide was brilliant. A great opportunity to see a completely different dimension of Poland and Krakow, with an excellent background commentary from the guide. The Trabant was great fun, and very memorable. We loved the little cafe in Nova Huta which had stopped in time, and we both felt that when we left the tour we had learned so much. This is a must do.

This was a very well conducted tour. The guide knew about the communist history and showed locations of significance to that era. Spoke excellent english and was very friendly. The Trabant cars are cute and a good icon of the communist times. The guides name was Jurek

I would not recommend this tour to anyone unless they had already toured the city and just wanted a terribly uncomfortable ride around the city. Granted I was not feeling well that day and the ride only made things worse, but felt the tour itself left a lot to be desired. The initial long ride followed by a long climb up some fortress just to see a view of the city seemed a waste of time. Saw a very ugly side of Krakow during this tour. Luckily my husband and I went to the Shindler museum followed by dinner in the Old Town Sqaure that were the only highlights of this stay. Several people said they took the "free tour" offered and weew extremely pleased. They were taken into the Jewish Quarter and Old Town rather than just shown where they were. Our guide said he was unable to show us Old Town because cars were not allowed. Would rather have parked outside and walked in than gone to the top of that fortress. Our guide Cuba was a very nice young man and tried to accomodate me as best as possible. What sounded like a fun day turned out to be a total waste of time.

Did not get picked up and waited about 40 mins! Hotel said they couldn't get through to them so we walked to tourist information and asked them to call. They were full of apologies and said it was because we hadn't called the previous day (our voucher did not say to do so), so they rearranged a 3pm p

Great experience. It was well worth having our own private transport as we could decide where we wanted to go and how much time spent at each attraction. Our guide Lucas was very well informed and great company, so much so that we bought him lunch in a proper and fantastic Polish restaurant called Dorothy's Kitchen.

Good tour and an ideal way to see Krakow. Pity Jenson Button was behind the wheel, fun though, other than that, it's a tour I wouldn't have missed. The local tour company is great, would do it again, yes

This was an amazingly entertaining and informative day. If you want a lot of historical facts and air-conditioned travel don't bother, but if (like us) you enjoy something a little bit different without a coach load of people then this is the trip for you!

Car and guide were fun and the visit to Nova Huta was interesting but sitting in a communist cafe and being given a modern history lesson with a few photos and only being taken to the front gates of the steelworks was a waste of time. Also, no visit to Kazimierz the old Jewish quarter, where Schindler's List was filmed as it was Easter Sunday - even though the tour guide was a self-declared atheist!!
