Leave Krakow behind and spend a fascinating morning or afternoon touring the legendary Wieliczka Salt Mine, one of the oldest salt mines in Europe. Along with the mine's historical importance, its carvings of fabulous figures, monuments and altarpieces have earned the Wieliczka Salt Mine a place on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.
Legend has it that the salt mines were part of the dowry of the Hungarian princess, Kinga, when she married Boleslaw the Shy over 700 years ago. You'll tour the richly ornamented Chapel of the Blessed Kinga and visit an underground salt-mining exhibition on Level 3.
Your guided tour takes you from 210 to 440 feet (64 to 135 meters) underground, passing through galleries and chambers on three levels. The guided walk consists of 20 monumental chambers joined by 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) of pathways.
Entering the Wieliczka Salt Mine, you'll descend a 380-step staircase to Level 1. Although this walk is not strenuous and can be undertaken in ordinary footwear, it will need to be considered when booking this tour. The last stop on your visit to the mine is the souvenir shop and snack bar. From here, a lift carries you back to the surface.
It is a must to visit the Salt Mines when you are in Krakow. It is history and art in one go. You must go their on a guided tour, if you do not want to spend much time in the ticket line.

This is absolutely amaising place to visit! Unbeleavebly huge labyrinth made of salt underground. Impressiv artistic handcrafts, made of salt by workers. Our guide was also very knowlegeable, she unswered all the questions and spoke good English. Highly recomended trip, not far away from the city, about 30 min driving.

I really enjoyed this tour, the only thing I would have changed was the group we were in which was full of people from the same place, they kinda took over and were quite pushy..... but this has nothing to do with the tour itself.

This actual salt mine was a great experience with an an excellent guide. But the transport to and from was rather shambolic._br/_ Driver appeared to have no instructions re picking up guests at the different hotels.The transport guide said absolutely nothing_br/_ from start of journey to end each way.Late turning up at end of tour. Then told to take a 20 min break for no apparent reason. Given a meeting point but did not turn up. Came eventually when she realised we were missing and said she had seen other members of our group as she was on her way so had just herded them back to the bus. Hopefully she was just having an off day.

I loved this! Be careful if you are a bit claustrophobic and you need stamina for the stairs down to the start of the tour but it is un-missable.

A VERY INTERESTING TAKE IN. MY ONLY WISH TOUR GUILD AT START _br/_ HAD ASK IF ANYBODY NEEDS TOUR TO BE ADJUSTED. THE FIRST 376_br/_ STEPS CAN BE AVOIDED BY ELEVATOR. WOULD OF BEEN HELPFUL_br/_ SINCE I HAD BROKEN MY LEG RECENTLY. THE REST OF STEPS _br/_ ANOTHER 400 ARE SPREAD OUT IN 50-100-75 AMOUNTS AND THIS_br/_ MAKES IT MORE DO ABLE. The tour iis fascinating. I didn and #39;t think I would enjoy it as much as I did, having been to plenty of mines in the UK before, but this is on another scale. I highly recommend anyone visiting Poland book onto this tour. PS: the lift was exciting, not scary (only a little cramped). Highly recommend!

very interesting tour. Only one comment and that was that the tour guide, who had said that she would wait at the exit door after the tour left without us. The 2 of us had merely used the toilets as had others. The receptionist whom we asked for directions back to the coach park, gave us incorrect information so we were sent on a very long walk back.

The salt mines are really something to see. The tour bus was on time, picking us up at our hotel. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We arrived back at the hotel on time. Clearly a must see when in Poland.
