Batu Caves Tour from Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Discover Malaysia's multicultural influences on this 3-hour afternoon tour to the Batu Caves from Kuala Lumpur. Enjoy a drive along Malaysia's own Little India (Brickfields), and witness the art of batik design and pewter arts that this region is famous for. Hotel pickup and drop-off from city hotels is included.

After pickup from your Kuala Lumpur hotel, embark on your cultural exploration of Malaysia beginning with a short drive through this region's official Little India in Brickfields. What used to be a simple residential neighborhood just outside of Kuala Lumpur has now been transformed into a colorful community with streets lined with quaint shops and mom-and-pop restaurants.

A short 30-minute drive later, arrive at Batu Caves, a massive limestone outcrop with interiors housing a Hindu shrine lined with different deities. Before climbing the 272 steps up into the high caverns, marvel at the impressive golden structure of Lord Murugan, standing tall at 140 feet (43 meters). On the way up, be greeted by mischievous little monkeys.

Upon arrival at the top of the steps, enter the Cathedral Cave, the biggest cave of the complex featuring a high ceiling and ornate Hindu shrines. Explore the cave complex with your guide and learn about the history and cultural significance of its various features.

Then make a stop at a local batik center and discover how this popular Malaysian fabric is designed and printed. Before returning to your hotel, visit the Royal Selangor Visitor Center to gain insight on pewter smithing and innovative pewter-ware design.

Cheaper ways to get to caves.only 1 hour there then we were herded to a disgusting dirty run down pewter factory._br/_ Not worth the $$ but the caves are amazing. I would suggest investigating alt ways of getting to caves and save you $$

Good: they contacted us beforehand and driver was waiting us in the hotel on time. He told a few things about the buildings on the way and was open to answer questions._br/_ Bad: we were dropped at Batu Caves to discover the place on our own - this is not a guided tour, rather just a transfer to and back :_br/_ Also we had to wait about an hour for fellow travelers, not their fault, but should be prepared for these situations - our driver did not have their mobile number to reach them and by the time he managed to get some directions from the office an hour passed and they appeared. Quite annoying if you have 2 days only in KL with two kids...

Unfortunately the tour was bad. The driver was very nice, and tried his best, but the concept of the tour is terrible. First they sell you to some shops you have to visit, then only an hour at Batu Caves. For the dark cave tour there is no time, what was the the most special thing in Kuala Lumpur for me. I ended up not taking the drive home, and noticed that a taxi is only 5 USD and you don't have to visit their shops. Also you first get collected from a minibus for an hour, then resend to another car. So out of of 20 min one-way journey, there becomes a 2 hour one-way journey... However, the driver was very nice and friendly, and did a good job.

Your bus picked me up at my hotel despite last minute booking, the guide was friendly and helpful and bus air conditioned. When we made it to Batu caves we were given time to explore on our own.

Great tour, picked up from our hotel taken to the caves and you have plenty of time to wonder yourself, would be nice to have a guide inside to explain a few things but I don’t think that’s what they do here. But still enjoyed it all the same. We visited a Nice textile shop afterwards too.

Would not pick me up the hotel that was on the list. Said it was too far. Hilton KL. One hour at the cave. Rest of the time was being sent to two shopping locations so someone could get a kickback. My advise is to take the KL Monorail. It goes directly to the caves. Less than $3 USD.

The tour is basically the driver taking you to a few places and you’re on your own. Batu Caves was amazing, especially if you love monkeys!

CHOOSE ANOTHER TOUR_br/_ This tour is nothing other than an expensive mini bus ride. The guide, Hema, just drove us to the caves and the batic shop. He didnt go with us and provided no guiding of any sort. The pewter factory was left out all together.

The tour guide didn't do much besides drive us from place to place. We only stayed at the caves for 45 mins or so. Rest of the time was spent at stores.

it was an good half a day trip, our driver was very informative and the best part was that there were only 3 of us, so it felt more like a private tour complete value for money.

Unless you want to go to the Pewter Factory or the Bartik Factory then don't bother doing this tour. _br/_ You can easily catch the LRT to the Batu Caves and the Caves are free, if you go on your own you'll have plenty of time to spend at the caves._br/_ Negatives: Not enough information about where meet for the tour. The tour starts at 9am, we didn't leave the departure point until 10.15am due to disorganization of all the tours that were leaving from the same point. Our name wasn't on any tour list even though we'd paid and confirmed the day before. The Tour Guide was late and he never really gave us a tour as such, especially at the Batu Caves. No information at all about the caves just said meet back at the bus in 50min. 50min isn't enough time if you want to look at all the caves and surrounds. There's a dark cave where you can go down into the caves with hard hats etc, there was no information about this and no time to do it anyway. The Pewter Factory is good but the tour through the factory was far too rushed and then we didn't have enough time to look at the products to buy, we felt like the bus might leave without us! Half day tour that went from 9am-2.30pm?? Certainly not good use of valuable holiday time._br/_ Positives: The bus was nice, people at MATic were helpful, we were put onto a tour list even though our name wasn't on any of their lists, they dropped us at the Hard Rock café rather than our Hotel at our request, although it probably would have take another 45min to get to our Hotel anyway

Worth doing if visiting KL but is only a tenner taxi ride away with cheap entry tickets so probably just as easier and certainly cheaper to sort yourself.

the tour guide was great. he know a lot about the caves as well as the Hindu religiton. the tour group communication was excellent - which would have made me nervous since I was alone and in Kuala Lumpur. One point I'd like to make is that I had to rent a scarf to cover up my knees. they would not let me climb up the stairs with my knees showing - although I saw many men in short. it would have been great had the tour group told me this in advance.

The English spoken by the guide wasn't that comprehensive even though he was a nice man. Overall the tour and timing were nice and enjoyable.

A beautiful and historic destination. Keep an eye on your belongings with the monkeys around. The monkeys are seemingly far more aware and intelligent than many of the people who visit. I knew Charles Darwin was right.

The tour guide was more of a driver. Picked us up with a group, drove through Little India without stopping, mentioned a few facts about it, then continued on to the Batu Caves. Upon arriving at the caves, no facts or history or anything, just told us to meet him back at a restaurant outside in two and a half hours. He did not offer to go with any of us. After we all returned, he was waiting at the restaurant as promised, and then drove us to a batik store. The store showed a quick demo of how they made the cloth and then were pushy about purchasing it. The guide was outside the entire time. After that, we got dropped back off at our hotels. Not much of a tour guide, although the driving was safe and the Batu Caves were beautiful enough on their own. The driving through Little India was a little pointless, especially if we were not going to get to see anything, and I did not appreciate being driven to a store where they pressured us to buy their goods.

I wouldn’t call this a tour, more a subsidised taxi trip to Batu Caves from the KL city centre. Batu itself was interesting but no guide. The two stops after were just overpriced tourist traps. I wouldn’t have minded if each was informative but was just there to get you into the store.

The batik factory was just an attempt to get us to purchase over priced batik.

Do NOT use this tour!!! Rip off! Take an Uber or Grab to the Batu Caves and the same upon return. This tour charges $30 per person to give you a ride and talk at you. That is all. There is no tour, there is no guided aspect, There is nothing you should pay for!

Fabulous tour, punctual pick up, Caves are well worth seeing if in KL and makes a great half day out away from the city. Lots of steps to climb and can get very hot, we went late afternoon when it was more pleasant. Really pleased we also had the chance to visit the Royal Selangor pewter factory on the way to the Caves which was absolutely amazing

Our tour guide was very informative with a great sense of humour. We were picked up on time and had a quick driving tour of Little India and the surrounding area. The Batu Caves were very enjoyable, as were the cheeky monkeys. Make sure you wear longer pants or a long skirt/dress otherwise you will need to pay for a sarong to cover your legs it doesn't cost much_br/_ We visited a textile factory on the way home - could have missed this one, it was just a trap to get the tourists to spend money. Also visited the Selangor Pewter Factory - the tour was very informative. _br/_ The only down side was the trip home - straight into grid locked traffic in KL!!! It took 20 minutes to get the Caves and greater than 2 hours to get back to our Hotel. We sat in the van for 20 minutes looking across the road at our Hotel while our driver was unable to do a U turn due to the congestion on the road. It might be better to choose the morning tour so you miss the gridlocked traffic in the afternoon.

Highly recommended, really good tour. The only thing is the drivers/guides need to be a bit more coordinated in gathering all their different groups. I had to wait over an hour till they had everyone gathered, which I felt was a waste of time.

Skip this "sight" in KL!! It is very overated and not terribly interesting. The monkeys were the best part. The caves are large, but nothing special. On the way to the Caves, we made several stops at stores and a factory to try and sell us souvenir junk - more than half the tour!

This was our first tour in KL and it was amazing. The Batu Caves are great to visit. Go up the 272 steps because the view from the top is worth the climb. The monkeys were friendly. Our tour guide was funny but made some remarks which I classify as racist and inappropriate. Pick up was on time.

Short trip with only 45 minutes in the caves. The ride was kinda rough and shaky. We had nice time and we took some nice pictures but we should never used the tour guide.

I booked this half-day tour with Viator months prior to my arrival in KL. The hotel pick-up and drop off worked very well. The price I payed with Viator was more than TWICE I would have paid locally!!!! What a rip-off booking on this site. The tour took us to a pewter factory and then a poor level batik shop. What a waste of time! The first two attractions were geared for those wanting to shop! and nobody on the bus wanted to shop! We finally arrived at Baru Caves and were given only 1 hour to see ONE cave. The whole purpose of this tour was to see the Batu CavES...and we ended up spending less time there than the other shopping sites. I asked the other tourists on the bus the cost of their ticket and the price I paid was X2 plus a little more!!! Never again will I book with Viator. Book locally for any tour offered by Viator and save!!!!

Exactly as advertised, one can do this independently which would probably be the same experience - we just appreciated a local driver and guide for the basics you actually climb on your own without a guide.

This is a must-see in Kuala Lumpur. I am glad we booked this tour as the guide was a WEALTH of information. To me, he seemed like a scholar, maybe a student studying for a PHD, and very smart, or maybe with a gift of gab. We had a lot of time in the van and he kept our interest with lots of useful and interesting information about Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia. I wish I had taken notes. I do not remember his name, however. Going up the steps was a challenge, but it feels like an accomplishment when you do it. I wish there was a tour that included the caves there. It looked very interesting. Not so impressed with the stop at the batik shop. It was too obviously a sales pitch, though the tour guide did not pressuer us in any way.

The company that organized this tour is the same one with which I did the Kuala Lumpur City Highlights Tour on the same day, in the morning - and, honoring its reputation from the morning tour, the bus was again late in about an hour. Other than that, though, the tour was great the guide was very knowledgeable and gave interesting info all around.

Excellent trip even though it was raining, the guide was very helpful and informative about all sites visited. Worth every penny the caves were amazing and a must for all visitors to Kuala Lumpur.

The tour itself was fine. Our driver/guide, David, was very nice and knowledgeable. However, the whole Batu Caves experience is hugely underwhelming. Very overrated. Ok, so the rain and the horrendous traffic that we experienced on the way there didn't help, but the caves themselves were unimpressive. I also thought the souvenirs stalls in the caves themselves was very tacky. The big statue out the front is the highlight.
