Downtown and Fremont Street History Walking Tour

Las Vegas, United States of America

Experience the neon sights and sounds of old Las Vegas on this guided, 2-hour walking tour. Walk from past to present and hear the stories of how Sin City got it’s start. See some of Fremont Street’s most fascinating attractions, like the Fremont Street Experience, Downtown Container Park and the Mob Museum, to name a few. Upgrade to include a visit to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, featured on the hit TV show ‘Pawn Stars,’ plus the historic wedding chapels and city buildings.

Your 2-hour walking tour begins when you meet your guide on the famed Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. Located in the heart of downtown’s Casino Corridor, Fremont Street can be spotted in famous Las Vegas photos and film scenes.

On this 1.5-mile (2.5-km) tour, you’re also bound to learn things you didn’t even imagine existed off the Strip, let alone Las Vegas. Discover the joys of randomness found in this part of town: a piece of the Berlin Wall in a men’s bathroom, a 19th-century chandelier from the San Francisco Opera House and 1870s street lamps from Brussels.

Check out where Old Blue Eyes and the rest of the Rat Pack used to hang out and walk under the Fremont Street Experience’s canopy of lights in a pedestrian mall. Stop in front of the Las Vegas Club, the Golden Gate and Binion's and snap a photo of the quirkiest wedding chapel in town. You might even spot Pawn Stars’ toy appraiser, Johnny Jimenez, tinkering around at the Toy Shack.

For an example in the art of urban revitalization, visit the Fremont East Entertainment District, home to dozens of new restaurants, galleries, entertainment venues and attractions. Explore the Container Park, a shopping and entertainment center built from shipping containers and see the old City Hall, which has been turned into the Zappos headquarters. By the end of the tour you’ll have a fantastic overview of this fascinating corner of Las Vegas.

Love the show Pawn Stars? Upgrade your 2-hour walking tour to add a 30-minute walk past historic chapels and city buildings to the Gold & Silver Pawn store made famous by History Channel's popular television show Pawn Stars. If you’re lucky, you might just see Rick, The Old Man, Big Hoss and Chumlee making a deal!

Please note: The tour stops outside of business and establishments to allow for discussion and viewing photos (if applicable) but has no planned excursions inside any establishments (with exception of Downtown Container Park). Pawn Star upgrade ends at the Gold & Silver Pawn where you will be free to browse and shop but does not guarantee entry due to filming, long lines, etc.

This tour is a must-do. Kelly was an awesome tour guide, and the personal audio devices was a nice touch. I learned a lot about Fremont Street, so much quirky history. Even though I've been to Fremont Street many times, I saw things that I never know was there. Time flew by on this tour.

Great tour and very informative. Our tour guide was great. We learned a lot about the history of Freemont street and Las Vegas. Our tour guide also told us about a lot of great restaurants and shops in the area that we would not have known about otherwise. Container park is pretty cool too. Definitely check out the Art Box, the chocolate shop and the giant preying mantis- it shoots off flames at night

The tour guide, Kelly, was fantastic. He was full of very interesting, and often very humorous, stories of Las Vegas and how it came to be what it is today. I always enjoy finding out about the places I visit, and this tour definitely accomplished that for me. If anyone asks, I will tell them without any hesitation: Take this tour!

This was a surprising, information packed, fun tour. We had not visited Fremont Street previously but our guide Kelly was a great source of information on the history behind both Fremont Street and Las Vegas, and he delivered in a easy listening style. The walk was mostly under shade on a very hot day with visits inside notable buildings for a welcome touch of air-con. Kelly also gave us a list of recommendations for dining, two of which we tried later and both were very good. Thanks Kelly for opening our eyes to the fun of Fremont Street.

This was a fantastic tour! I have been to Fremont street numerous times, but decided to sign up for the tour since I was traveling with my 2 teenage daughters. Kelly was an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable about history of Fremont Street and the birth of Las Vegas. This tour made me fall in love with the area and he provided us with a restaurant guide and coupons for area businesses after our tour. We actually came back again a few nights after our tour to check out the Container Park and Fremont Street at night as well as to enjoy another meal at Pizza Rock- amazing pizza!!! I would highly recommend this tours to others, even if you have visited this area before. It is amazing to see all of the changes / remodeling that has been done in this area just in the past year.

My friend Julie and I took this walking tour on July 16, 2017. We were in Vegas for a week for our 40th birthdays. We were unfortunately late to get to the starting point of the tour due to some traffic on the strip. However, we were extremely surprised when we saw Kelly, our tour guide, outside the Plaza Hotel starting point still waiting for us even after 25 minutes. Not only was Kelly very knowledgeable about downtown Vegas, but you could clearly feel his passion for the area. The old pictures of Freemont Street that he brought with him were a great touch. Furthermore, his restaurants recommendations in the area were spot on. We loved this tour and we recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about the now/then of downtown Vegas. Note: if you take the tour in July and August, make sure to bring a ton of water, wear hats and put sunscreen on.

Not only does this tour force you to leave the chaos of the Strip for the semi-historic downtown area, but Kelly will expertly walk you through about a century of history in just a few hours. He will also show you some EXCELLENT values and some really cool things to do after the tour. For example: within 30 minutes of finishing the trip I was able to touch a piece of the Berlin Wall in a men's bathroom. Anyone with even a minor interest in Las Vegas will enjoy this tour! _br/_ I only wish I had cash on hand to tip the guide more!

Kelly gave an incredibly detailed walking tour. We were with our 17-year-old son and another couple from the UK and their two boys. The history of Freemont Street with all its glitz is amazing, and those who visit Las Vegas and don't venture downtown are really missing out on something special. Aside from the zipline, the container park, and the funky, cool restaurants, the vibe is really pretty special and you get to see a certain slice of life that just isn't visible to the average tourist oggling the outdoor and indoor hotel extravaganzas, while drinking something alcoholic. Take Kelly's tour. Learn some history about the place, and don't miss the Mob Musuem either. Thanks to Kelly for a great, informative tour. Really one of the best things we could have done. Highly recommend.

What a fun way to spend a few hours in Downtown Las Vegas. Our guide Kelly was terrific and we learned so much from him. In addition to giving us lots of history and fun facts, he gave us wonderful recommendations for restaurants. In fact, the next time we visit Vegas, I just might stay downtown instead of the strip. Just remember to wear good walking shoes as you do a lot of walking and standing.

Thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour of downtown Vegas. Our host, Kelly, was a mine of information and kept us_br/_ Supplied with fascinating facts of the growth and changes in downtown Vegas. There was just a small group us_br/_ Shame it was with woolly back Canadians only joking Mercedes and hubby! I had been to Fremont Street before_br/_ almost ten years ago and the changes since then were incredible especially in Fremont East where they are trying_br/_ to create a community of shops and bars to entice tourists from the Strip and at prices way below what you would_br/_ pay on the Strip. Kelly, you were a great host to our little band! So folks, go on the tour and find facts and info that_br/_ may entice you to stay Downtown in the future. Remember, the Strip is just a bus ride away!

Fascinating tour full of information for history buffs but also really entertaining with anecdotes and funny stories. Great guide with a real passion for his subject. Comparing the then photographs to the now buildings gave an extra insight into the foundation of this town in the desert. Walking out of the Fremont Experience on the Strip was not recommended when I visited 8 years ago - it was dangerous after dark. Everything has changed in the last couple of years - urban renewal on every front: modern office space behind original building facades, refurbishing derelict hotels, the opening of the first new school in the area for more than a generation, cafes, restaurants and more! Wonderful to have a rich benefactor with vision. The Container City is a great place to end the tour with some really nice places to eat. Great tour. Use the Deuce bus to get to Fremont Street and walk through the Fremont Experience to get to the meeting point.

I really enjoyed this tour, there was only me and the guide KelleyI think that's what his name was. He gave me the whole history of early Las Vegas and it was interesting just walking around listening to him. His story of how Lee Marvin shot Vegas Vic to shut him up so he could get some sleep did make me laugh. Really good tour

Great tour and guide. A walking history of Vegas from the start to the present day. Useful info on current hotels and places to go/eat. Some discounts provided too. A must do for locals as well as tourists. A great use of two of our hours in Vegas. Quite a long walk from the strip to it.

We enjoyed our tour with Kelly immensely. He has honed his presentation to perfection. At the same time, since we were the only ones on the tour that day, he tailored the emphasis to customize the experience and patiently answered all our questions. With articulate descriptions and fluid transitions, he brought all the interesting facts and anecdotes to life. Binder photos, held up to the current scene as we went, made it easy for us to compare and contrast as we followed along. You can't get that kind of immediacy from guide books. As we moved into the East Fremont district he brought us up to date on recent trends and changes, linking history, giving restaurant and museum tips, and pointing out specific places along the way. All so useful and absolutely fascinating, Kelly's tour was a real highlight of our trip. Please treasure this guy he's the best!

The tour was amazing. Kelly is a great tour guide. Clearly he loves the old Vegas and his knowledge of the area was obvious. I've been to Fremont Street before but having Kelly as our guide really made it a whole new experience. We came back the day after the tour and were able to revisit many of the places and take advantage of some of the quirky and fun things we learned about on the tour.

Kelly was fantastic. My husband and I were the only ones on the tour which made us feel like VIPs. We have always enjoyed staying downtown but never knew the inside scoop or it's history and now we have gained much more knowledge thanks to this tour. There is still much to explore, taste, and see, during our next visit. The strip is overrated, come and explore downtown, there is so much going on!
