Hoover Dam Tour from Las Vegas

Las Vegas, United States of America

Your trip to Las Vegas won't be complete without a tour of the mighty Hoover Dam! Built during the Depression, thousands of men came to Black Canyon to tame the Colorado River, and it took them less than 5 years to build the largest dam of its time.

Hoover Dam Express Tour:
This tour provides approximately 2 hours of free time at the Dam - where you can go on the two-hour guided discovery tour, visiting the exhibit gallery, penstock viewing platform, visitor center and more.

Hoover Dam Deluxe Tour:

Why not upgrade your tour to include a lunch at The Hoover Dam Lodge followed by a visit to the Ethel M Chocolate factory?

Hoover Dam Deluxe Tour and Lake Mead Cruise:
To make the most of your day, you have the opportunity to include a memorable 90-minute cruise on the Desert Princess paddle boat to enjoy the delights of boating on the largest man-made lake in the US. A picnic style meal is served aboard the boat.

Regardless of which option you select, you'll enjoy phenomenal views of Hoover Dam, admire the beauty of Lake Mead and see the colorful Arizona Paint Pots in stark contrast against the volcanic rocks of Black Mountain.

Depending on local traffic, a 10-15 minute stop will be made at the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas sign for photo opportunities.

Truely amazing place to visit. A great achievement which will last hundreds of years. A must visit place if you are in the area. Our driver was also very helpful with useful information.

Awestruck by the size of this structure. No wonder its Americas most visited attraction.

We were looking forward to going into the engine room and on the boat that went out on Lake Mead! Even though we received a refund for those parts of the tour, it was disappointing! I don't know that I would recommend this tour.

The dam was awesome. The bus ride was very nice. The line at the dam was bad. Needed more time at the Dam. The upgrade was a waste. Lunch and the casino was nothing special. Would have rathered to spend more time at the dam and eat lunch there. I assumed lunch was at the dam. Kinda disappointed

My tour was awesome. The driver was very nice and the ride was comfortable. My mother thoroughly enjoyed herself. We learned a lot and the experience was one that I will always remember fondly.

Well done tour. Bus was comfortable. Driver was very entertaining and interesting. Arrived for pickup as scheduled. Drive through Las Vegas as more participants were picked up at hotels was informative. Everything well organized, but at the Gray Line center, we were informed that the elevators at the dam were not working, so there would be no tour of the generators. We were given a small refund in cash to compensate for the change. There was ample time allowed for walking around the dam and visiting the very interesting exhibits. Lunch was rather late, since our bus was used for both Lake Mead cruise and Deluxe Tour. We did not eat until 2:00. Decent lunch, but nothing special. Those on a tight time schedule with dinner plans in Vegas after the tour should know that the bus takes a long time to drop off all participants at their hotels. Check with the driver about the order of drop-offs. If your hotel is toward the end of the stops, you may want to get off early and grab a cab or Uber back to your hotel to make early evening reservations. Overall, the tour was a good value. The dam is simply an amazing testimony to engineering, imagination, and sheer human effort!

This trip is fantastic. We loved seeing the dam and hearing about the history - who knew how much work it would take to divert the original flow and actually build the dam? I hadn't realised it was during the Great Depression, so people from all walks of life were involved - literally crossing the country to get a job for the wages._br/_ Just one thing - my husband was offered the 100 to have a helicopter flight over the dam by the coach company, but when we got to the Hoover Dam Lodge, the flights were on sale for 39.99. One of those little things you should know!

Excellent tour. Good value. A chance to understand the history of the dam. How and why it was built. A tour though the dam to see the turbines, as well as lots of photo opportunities from the viewing platform.

What an amazing tour from beginning to end. Our tour shuttle from our hotel to the main staging area was prompt and comfortable. The guide who drove us to the Hoover Dam tour and on to the Lake Mead cruise was courteous, knowledgeable and humorous. The whole experience was incredible and I would highly recommend combining the Dam tour and the Lake Mead cruise because doing both of them affords you the opportunity to see the Hoover Dam from the front and the back! It puts this whole engineering marvel into perspective. Can't stress enough how important it is to have plenty of water we made our trip in August and it was REALLY hot but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The tour and cruise were both excellent. It was nice to have transportation to both. It was a great introduction and provides a foundation for future trips.

Everyone from the agency was so nice! We went on the deluxe tour of Hover Dam that included lunch and the Ethel M chocolate factory. The duration of the tour was too long- we were at the Lunch facility for 2.5 hours, there was nothing to do if you did don't gamble.

Review by:   Julie L,    July 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The tour was interesting. I feel that it became a lot shorter after 9/11. The bus driver was very courteous and professional. There were angry/obnoxious guests that he had to deal with later in the day, and he handled it very professionally and did not stoop to their level. One recommendation, skip the lunch, do not pay the extra. This is no fault of the tour bus company, but the Hoover Dam Lodge was HORRIBLE. They had inadequate staffing for a tour bus. The server was rude. I asked for a menu three times and never received one. The food was not good, and when I asked for a refill, she told me that refills weren't included in the tour menu. Seriously?!? And, to top it off, I had the worst food poisoning I've ever had in my life from the restaurant. Again, this is not the fault of the Tour Company, but just a little advice. Don't spend the extra money because you'll be thoroughly disappointed!!!

The bus lineShuttle did a good job of picking up at each location then delivering us to a central location where we were to board another bigger better bus. My only problem with the bus line would be that the driver spoke broken English and me being hard of hearing had difficulty understanding. The good was that while on the bus most of the information we received was prerecorded in English loud and clear. The rendition was interesting and gave a lot of insight into the area. Once at the dam we had to go thru security which was actually more comprehensive for us than the airlines but I have no problems with that. The tour of the dam was in a large group and they packed us in elevators like sardines. The guided tour was short and not very comprehensive with only two stops within the dam. The self guided tour thru the exhibits was much more interesting than the guided tour. After the tour we had a little time to spare before loading on the bus to return to Vegas. The driver was prompt and we left at his designated time. We all listened to the story of the mob on the bus return trip. This was also interesting. Overall the tour company did a decent job with the limited access we had to the dam.

This tour was great, I cant recommend it highly enough! I was travelling with my partner who is confined to a wheelchair. We were initially worried about access to the transport, but the company couldn't have been more helpful and the coach was fully equipped with a lift so he could get in still in his chair. The guide on the bus and the hoover dam tour was really informative and fun. The dam really is amazing to visit, a real engineering marvel._br/_ We also went on the Lake Mead cruise which was lovely, providing excellent views of the lake and the dam. Though there was no access for the wheelchair to the top deck of the boat, there was plenty of room at the bow and stern of the vessel for us to enjoy the sunshine and the view. In all, an excellent day out!

Our pick-up location in Las Vegas was not at our hotel but down the street a bit near the Mirage. We were aware that his may happen and it was a short walk and not at all inconvenient for us. Our driver was very nice but was not tour guide. The informational portion of the trip however, was nearly all given via a recording that was timed to play according to our location. I guess it's best not to distract the driver._br/_ The drive to the dam was comfortable and within the time frame specified for the tour. Although we were given enough time at the dam, the tour inside the facility wasn't as long as it was years ago during a prior tour. Good information however, was provided._br/_ The stop at Lake Mead was a brief stop at a Tourist Photo Op site. Although brief, how much time does one really need to take a picture of a huge man-made lake that's drying out._br/_ Our stop to eat at a casino restaurant was okay but not great. The food offered with the tour package was a basic sandwich or salad, with a drink. If you like to gamble, the casino was small but from what I was told, they had better slot winning odds than in the Vegas strip._br/_ Onward to the Ethel Chocolate Factory. This wasn't worth the drive. The factory is really small, the viewing of chocolate treats being made was nothing more than watching a few workers putting candies in boxes. The offered free sampling was from a choice of three different flavors of chocolate where we had to choose one flavor and were allowed only one quarter size piece. Lots of chocolates were available for purchase... at about 25 per pound. Ouch! For me the best part of Ethel's was taking a small walk around its small succulent garden._br/_ Because of the price and the comparison of the tour offerings from the competition, as well as the friendliness of the driver, I do recommend this tour, but without the trip to Ethel's.

We took the Hoover Dam Tour with the combination of the Lake Mead lunch cruise. Everything was super organized with timing. The trip was comfortable. The sights were breathtaking, and the associates were all very friendly. The lunch was a boxed lunch sandwich with chips. O.k. for a day on the lake which was stunning. Our bus driver was very informative with facts about the area as well. Our only complaint was the music that was played on the boat trip was certainly antiquated and weird. The speakers were also crackling. Update the music to easy listening, anything that is recognizable would be a great added plus.

Overall, a pretty good tour. If I had to do it over again though, I'd just book the express tour vs. the deluxe. The only difference was the deluxe included a subpar lunch and a trip to Ethel M's Chocolate Factory.

Grey Line were a fab operator and I cannot really fault them as they did a great job but I wouldn't say that the actual Hoover Dam tour itself is very good. We were booked on the power plant tour which I personally do not feel is worthwhile as we only got to see two rooms in the entire dam._br/_ Walking above the dam is magnificent and definitely worth a visit for, but that's probably about it._br/_ On the return trip from our tour, it did take us over two hours to get back to the hotel due to a large number of hotel drop offs beforehand - our driver chose a bad route to drop off.

Was not a guided tour so was left on own with a time limit to get back to the bus which made it kind of scary to go too far from left off area especially with an 8 and 9 year old. We did manage to get a distant view.

Our first driver, Jeremy, was so rude!! We stopped at the Las Vegas sign and it took a little longer than we thought to come back to the bus. As we were running back, he had our backpack and basically threw it at us and I tried to explain why it took so long and he yelled, I don't want to hear it! He ruined the rest of the trip for me.

Great tour of the Hoover Dam. Easy pickup from Hotel's on the Strip. Driver was funny and informative. Had to stop at the Tour Bus HQ to register. Quick formal tour of the inside of the dam, then plenty of time to wander around and take pictures. Don't hesitate to go with this tour group.

This is a great trip day trip or half day from Las Vegas. It is a fascinating part of southwest and American history close up. The bus driver was friendly and prompt, and the Hoover Dam tour guides were knowledgeable. The joke really does not get old -- this really is the best dam tour!

Great trip! The bus arrived promptly to our hotel to take us to the transfer station. The ride was comfortable and the guide was entertaining and knowledgable! The Hoover Dam is an engineering marvel and a must see! We took the Hoover Dam Delixe tour which included a tour of the power plant which was very interesting, and a stop at the oldest Casino in Vegas for a buffet lunch! Great experience.

Great tour to the Hoover Dam, the Express gives you more than enough time to enjoy the exhibits and tour as well as to walk out over the Dam. Plus we had a fantastic bus driver who gave us a guided tour to and from the Dam. Note that the refreshment and souvenir facilities at the site are pretty poor.

Tour guide started out a little dry but ended up being pretty good. Tour of Dam was really good but short, lasted about 20 min. The only part of the tour that was horrible was the provided lunch. Dont waste your money on the deluxe tour as the food was terrible.

Driver was 10 minutes late after one stop, left me stranded at the second stop because they left 10 mins early. We had issues with the company because they told us she was turning around, but she never showed up, and waited 3 hours before they got someone. Didn and #39;t get to finish our tour.

If you like drivers with terrible attitudes that leave you behind halfway through your tour, this is the one for you! If three hours of waiting in a casino for her to come back sounds like a great vacation, pick this tour! Would not recommend this tour to ANYONE. Ruined an entire day for us.

Our driver was 10 minutes late on our first stop she left 10 minutes early on our second stop so my group got left behind we called they told us she was turning around and would be back in 11 minutes. She never came back. We waited over 2 hours and missed the last half of our tour. DO NOT BOOK HERE!
