Temple of Pachacamac Half-Day Tour from Lima

Lima, Peru

Join a half-day tour to the famous Pachacamac Temple, located only a short distance from Lima. Built by different leaders throughout the centuries and between the years 200 and 1450 AD, this religious compound is made entirely out of clay and houses the giant pyramids of the sun and moon. This comprehensive sightseeing tour will give you an insight on the culture, history and architecture of both the Inca and pre-Inca people.

Leaving Lima behind, you'll enjoy a scenic coastal drive along the Pan-American highway. Only 19 miles (30km) south of Lima lies this impressive and well preserved religious compound.

The massive Temples of the Sun and the Moon are known to be the compound's most striking features. Built entirely of clay, an estimated 50 million sun-dried bricks were used in the construction of the Temple of the Sun alone. Excavations in the area continue to reveal further insights into the Moche and Huari cultures that spanned the period from 200 to 800 AD.

It was an okay tour. Be advise that the air in Lima is really bad if you suffer from allergies or have breathing problems, take a mask.

Prepare to get dusty as you get out into the desert region. The tour of the museum on site was an added bonus, before we went out to see the archeological site of Pachacamac.

The tour guide was very good. As we drove to Pachacamac she told us a lot about the neighborhoods we were driving through. I wish the temple itself had been more completely excavated. Also, be advised that it is quite a long climb up to the top of the temple for anyone who has a physical disability. In my case a heart condition.

Zero stars. The tour guide claims to have come to our hotel and asked for us which we do not believe. We left word with the hotel that we were in the dining room and then when we were in the lobby. No one contacted us. When the hotel concierge called to follow-up the tour operator claims their person was there. I asked why they did not contact our cell phone or email and they claimed Viator does not provide that information. They further claimed the hotel was going to lie anyway. As a result, we had to separately arrange a visit and we are still out our 107 with Viator. I am extremely disappointed, especially as I have used Viator in the past and they usual work with credible tour operators.

We had a wonderful tour of Pachacamac! The guide gave us a really nice driving tour of the city as well as of the site which gave us a chance to see parts of Lima we would not have otherwise seen. He also suggested the Micro theatre in Barranco which was a highlight for us and we would not have known of otherwise.

This site is well worth the visit, and the tour was of great value because of our knowledgeable guide. He explained not only the site, but also everything we drove by on the way to it. Driving in Peru is not for the faint of heart, so we recommend a tour or, at minimum, a taxi._br/_ It is fascinating to see how the Incan and earlier civilizations adapted to the desert, especially if you have seen stone ruins around Cusco and Machu Picchu. The top of the pyramid is one of the few places in the world you can see desert, lush greenery, freshwater ponds, and the ocean from the same vantage point - and use that sight to build an understanding of why Peru was one of the seats of human civilization.

Not very interesting or informative tour.

This trip was ruined. Pachacamac is next to a huge cemetery. The trip took place on 1st November and I wasnt told that there would be a huge pilgrimage to the cemetery. The journey there took 2 hours! And I had a flight back to the UK that evening. I made it in plenty of time but it was stressful and the guide didnt tell me that we would be going back a different route. This would have made it less it less stressful once wed got there. The ruins were lovely but it wasnt worth the stress or the two hour journey to get there.

Let me start out by saying that the only reason I am giving this a four star rating is that we did not go to the very top of the Temple of the Sun. Aside from that the guide was excellent, the museum outstanding and Informative. We got to see most of the important features of the site for the time we had to cover them.

This tour takes you by bus through a good part of the site, which is beneficial if you have trouble walking or just don't feel like it. The entire site is quite expansive. Even though this may not be as impressive as Machu Picchu, it had interesting qualities that our guide was eager to point out. The views from the top overlooking the ocean are breathtaking. While I did enjoy the bus driving us around, I would have liked more time to walk around and explore, particularly the temple at the top. I also would have liked more time in the museum, as we felt rushed to only hit a few highlights before exploring the actual site. My guide was very patient as well. I had booked the English tour and ended up being the only non-Spanish speaker on my bus. Even though I could pick out a bit of the Spanish, he was great about repeating what he had said to everyone else in English for me, so I could know what was going on. I recommend this tour if you're looking to get away from the city for a bit and see more Peruvian archeology.

If you only have a few days in Lima and want to see a large historic city I would recommend this tour. The hour bus ride takes you through some shanty towns to a very large site with a beautiful ocean view. This site overlooks modern day civilization so you get a flavor of how the culture evolved. There is a lot of walking, stairs, and a museum. The tour guide shared many interesting stories making the site come alive. This was our fourth historic site and the only large tour we experienced. I would recommend going to this site with a smaller group.

This tour could be better organized! You are not leaving Lima till 10 or 10:30 and you won't be back till 3 pm. Lots of people booked other tours after this one and it was difficult to make it to the afternoon tours in time.

Pachacamac was an interesting site. It is different from many of the other sites in the Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu. It is a bit older so that may be part of it. The construction is small blocks by the sea. If I had not seen the other sites I would have thought that this was more interesting but compared to the many other sites this is less thrilling.

What a find...this site is still being restored but the location on the hill in amongst favelas with a view out to the ocean is superb. Great guide with a lot of knowledge of the original inhabitants.

Good tour to a very impressive site. However, there were some logistical problems: the taxi driver picking us up at the hotel could not provide us with any information as to where we were going to meet the tour people, etc. the person in charge of the tour had been replaced without warnings, and therefore could not be reached for details re: the previous matter and once the tour was over, we were dropped off at a location different from the one agreed upon, because the tour guide forgot to drop us off... This resulted in our having to walk a good 15 minutes before reaching our destination the tour guide told us it would only be a few minutes walk... All in all, nothing major, but enough so that I would not recommend this tour operator to people who do not speak the language and who may not be at ease hiking in a city they do not know.....

This tour would have been great other than we were bundled in a bus with Portuguese and Spanish speakers. This tour took ages as the poor guide had to translate everything including questions three times. I understand this is low season but it would be better to keep each language group separate.

Pachamac was so much bigger and more excavated than I had imagined, and the new museum is worth a trip in itself. I wish the tour had included more time in the museum. Otherwise, the tour was well run and very organized.

I was in a small group which was great but the language presentation for the group was in Spanish and English. I had expected an all English group. Hotel pick up was great however it was to a central location to pick up the guide.

The driver who picked me up from my hotel took me to the wrong place and left me there without checking that the tour bus was waiting, which meant that the day started out rather stressed!_br/_ However, the tour itself was excellent - a very interesting site, with a very knowledgeable guide who gave life to the ruins by telling stories of the origins and uses of the various buildings.

The tour was good, but the bus was late coming for us and we thought they'd forgotten us. Then we had to change to a different bus , so it was at least and hour late actually starting the tour.

It was interesting to see outside the tourist areas of Lima on the drive to the archaeological site. _br/_ The tour stopped at the arts district of Barranco on the way to the site which was good to see the Bridge of sighs, a tourist site in the city. The actual site was interesting but a lot of the ruins are in quite bad condition. If you have a free morning in Lima you might as well go and have a look at it. Also the tour runs longer that it states so keep that in mind if you have organised something for the afternoon.

The tour was organized well. Pickup was punctual, but lasted more than the advertised time so it is not a good idea to plan anything important right after this tour within an hour of the planned return. The guide spoke with clarity, gave an informative tour of the temple. The Pachacamac itself was interesting for its history,
