Beatles and Liverpool Rail Day Trip from London

London, United Kingdom

Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields - visit these famous Liverpool sights your own way on an independent day trip from London. Everything's arranged for you: return rail tickets, entry to the Beatles Story, a Magical Mystery Tour and a Liverpool city map and information booklet. The rest is up to you!

Your day starts with a relaxing train journey to the historic city of Liverpool, European Capital of Culture in 2008. Arriving at Liverpool Lime Street, you'll have time to explore this Victorian city, perhaps taking a stroll along the stunningly refurbished Albert Dock Complex housing the Merseyside Maritime Museum and Tate Liverpool art gallery.

Your tour includes entry to the Beatles Story, where you can re-live the Fab Four's meteoric rise to fame. Your visit takes you from the cobbles of Matthew Street and the Cavern, through the hysteria of Beatlemania to the final live performance on the Apple rooftop and beyond!

The Cavern Quarter is a vibrant city center area and the focus of Beatle history. There's the famous Cavern Club, where the lads played 292 times, and the pubs where they drank during the early 1960s.

Options for lunch in Liverpool are many and varied, with top-quality bars, restaurants and cafes in the city center.

In the afternoon your Magical Mystery Tour is waiting to take you away! This two-hour tour takes you round all the landmarks in the lives of the Fab Four, including their homes, schools and birthplaces, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and many other significant spots.

Oh my gosh! What can I say about this tour????? FANTASTIC! Up super early, get on the tube, head to Euston Rail Station, and 2 1/2 hours later you are walking through the streets of Liverpool. The street signs are really easy to follow,,head to Albert Dock and you are at the Beatles Story, the best museum in the world for Beatles fans. The train gets to town around 9:30. It's about a 20 minute walk to the museum and then you will have a good 2-3 hours to see all there is, shop for souvenirs, and grab some lunch in their cafe. At 2:00, you board the bus for the Magical Mystery Tour...Penny Lane, Beatles childhood homes, Strawberry Field iron gates, and lastly, The Cavern on Mathew Street. You can actually sit an listen to performers in The Cavern as you sip a drink or grab a sandwich before you head back toward Lime Street Rail Station for the train ride home at 6:30. The William Gladstone pub is right across the street from the end of Mathew Street...super cheap fish and chips and really good. It's a fantastic tour to take. The day is filled with everything you would want to see of the Beatles and their hometown.

BR-654504995 - First this booking start was from Euston train station at 650 am, which you needed to be 10-min early. No big deal, I was literally staying 5-10 minutes from the station. However, when I arrived at 0630 - I could not find the person responsible for the tour. Neither could the assistant from the Euston Station ticket booth. No one answered calls to the number on the voucher, and VIATOR does not have ANY immediate contact numbers listed on their website. I had FIRST CLASS SEATS. I WAS IN THE STATION. HOW MESSED UP IS IT THAT I HAD TO WATCH THE TRAIN LEAVE WITHOUT ME? I certainly couldn't afford to purchase train tickets without a tour discount. It would have been so much easier if the ticket vouchers were electronic, but they were not. Unfortunately, I feel that this will also fall on deaf ears. I guess thereis always a glitch occasionally, and I must be it this time.

Really enjoyed the Magical Mystery Tour. Informative guide, and stops at all the key Beatles places. Best of all was the Cavern Club. Lots of history and the live music was awesome.

As a huge Beatles fan, I found this tour to be a once in a lifetime experience!! It was well organized and loaded with interesting info. The upgrade on the train to include meals was well worth it. Although it could be done on your own for much less, having the day all planned for a first visit to Liverpool was great!!

Fun Beatles venue! Loved traveling on train. Wish more information made available to us about return trip, viator did not enclose any information in packet given to us at train station, no time printed on train tickets either.

The Museum did a very good job telling the story of the band, its origins, rise to fame, the changes in music, the break-up and the post-Beatle life. Worth the 90 minutes or so it takes to do. The Magical Mystery Tour is as touristy as you might imagine but was worth every minute of it. The tour guide on the bus was particularly good.

This was an impressive tour and worth every penny! My husband is a huge Beatles fan so when we were planning our vacation I knew this was a must do for us...and I am so glad we did it! When I booked the only available option was the first class train ticket which I was hesitant to purchase as it was a little more than I had wanted to spend. It was SO worthwhile! The excursion starts with meeting at the train station at 6:30 in the morning....which means being up rather early. First class train provides breakfast options, big comfy seats, and WIFI....a very comfy ride. Once arriving in Liverpool we were able to easily find our way to the dock and the Beatles Story. It was a very informative and interesting look at the lives and history of the Beatles....from the very beginning to the end. We did find our way to the other exhibit which we were told featured more Beatles memorabilia but it was disappointing....more about the history of rock and roll and very little about the Beatles. There was enough time to stroll around and grab some lunch before embarking on the Magical Mystery tour. The guide for the tour was awesome...very Beatles savvy and entertaining. He took us through Liverpool pointing out the places they lived, famous places of inspiration for their songs such as Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields....and the history behind it all. After that we were dropped off near the famous Cavern Club which became the highlight for me personally. As we descended into the club it is well below ground level you could feel the history....and it was packed with people! The acoustics were amazing...the live entertainment was great to listen to while drinking a beer and feeling the music envelop the entire place. Tito Jackson even made an appearance! It was a great day...and the return train was wonderful with a light dinner and beverages provided. If you are a Beatles fan this is a MUST DO if you are in London and can spare a full day...you won't be disappointed!

The rail trip from London to Liverpool was certainly a highlight of our entire vacation. We upgraded to first class which made it extra special. We enjoyed the Beatles museum. The only slight in the whole day was the bus tour around Liverpool. For some reason the driver failed to remember to turn the air conditioner back on after we returned from each excursion. It really made the ride pretty stuffy since the bus was completely full of passengers. Other than that we had a wonderful time learning about the history of the Beatles!

Fantastic Day. The train, museum, and tour were phenomenal. Plenty of free time, which you will want, and enough structure to make it the experience of a lifetime. I have waited 50 years for this and it lived up to all my expectations. Our tour guide was amazing._br/_ I recommend this.

It would be best if somebody went to Liverpool with the group, it was not clearly stated that we will be on our own as in we were just given instructions on the morning itself before leaving for Liverpool. If somebody was with us, we could have maximized our time exploring the City or at least include in the Tour description that except for the Magical Mystery Tour, the traveler will be on his/her own. Or at least have somebody to guide us upon arrival in Liverpool. Much time was spent looking for the other tour sites. It was good that I found 2 fellow Filipinos and we all got lost together...

We took this tour on Saturday July 1st, 2017. Everything went off without a hitch and was very enjoyable. Be aware, however, that you are paying 180.00 per person for what amounts to about 100 worth of tickets. There is no guide - someone meets you at the train station and hands you an envelope with tickets for the train, The Beatles Story and the Cavern Club Bus Tour, all of which are available online separately. Save serious cash by setting this up yourself! You can do it no problem.

This was a fun day trip from London. The Beatles museum is full of fun artifacts and treasures to keep any Beatles fan happy. You can take it all in at your own pace. Later you join a guided tour of the key sites in Liverpool where the Beatles lived and played. The guides were entertaining and full of juicy information. We even did an impromptu sing-along with everyone on the tour bus. It was well worth the time and money.

This trip includes several things some of them are really great and actually touching, specially for a really Beatles fan like me. It starts pretty early and takes most of the day, which is something one should take into consideration. The train from London to Liverpool was actually shorter than I expected and I, once arrived, I took a walk directly to the Albert Dock in order to reach the Beatles Story Exhibition. With regard to this first stop I might say that I expected a little more. The exhibition os not as large as one may, but is very entertaining, including some nice things, such as the John Lennon Glasses, black velvet Jacket and, as far as I understood, the only blue LP copy of the White Album which is not permanent. It was probably because of the time around 10:30, but the place was not crowded at all. I takes probably less than one hour to go over the whole exhibition. I might also say that is only an Exhibition, not an actual museum of the Beatles something that I really believe the fans still deserve. Since the Magical Mystery Bus Tour was going to start until 2:00 PM, I had time to visit the Maritime Museum, located only a few meters from The Beatles Story, within the same Albert Dock. In spite I originally wasn't interested in visiting such museum, it was a nice surprise. It had a great exhibition about the Titanic. I didn't know how linked Liverpool was to the tragedy os such famous ship. You can see a lot of interesting things there, such as the list of passengers who died and the ones who where rescued, enlisted by class. There are lots of other interesting things related to the Titanic. And, at the end, even tough I am a huge Beatles fans, may I say the Maritime Museum was at least as nice the the Beatles Story visit. I would also recommend to visit the Slavery Museum, within the same building in one of the top floors. _br/_ However, the best two things of the trip where the Magical Mystery Bus tour and the final visit on your own to the Cavern Club. The bus is a very normal one, tough painted identically as the one used in the famous Beatles Movie. The bus tour takes around two hours and the guide gives you just about enough information of the places they take you. You go over all the houses where every one of the Beatles used to live or were born. Some highlights for me where the stop at Penny Lane and the Strawberry Fields Gate. One of the things I was really touched by was walking towards the house where Paul McCartney lived in such place he frequently met Lennon to compose, thus was a magic point of origin for many Beatles songs. The bus also pases in front of the Church where Lennon and McCartney met for the first time. Although you don't go off the bus, at least you see the place and is wonderful. Finally, they leave you quite near the Cavern Cavern Club at the perfect time to have a couple of beers and listening to one guy performing Beatles songs. What a better place to end the tip?

We had the most wonderful day in Liverpool, and if you're a fan of the Beatles, this trip is a can't miss! If you worry that you will have too much time in Liverpool, that is not the case at all. The Beatles Story museum is incredible, and the Liverpool area is lovely to just wander around in. We loved the Magical Mystery Tour - I wasn't expecting to actually get off the bus to take pictures with and see the different sites, so I was pleasantly surprised. I can't recommend this trip enough.

As a Beatles fan, I must say this is definitively a great trip to do. The train was pretty fast to get there. If you have good weather forecast, i recommend to take the ferry, it is a pleasant activity there's a discount on ferry tours. Beatles story and magical mystery tour are two cool experiences.

This tour is a must for anyone who is a Beatles fan. It was definitely worth getting up early to catch the train to Liverpool. The tour rep met us at the station and gave us very detailed instructions for our self-guided tour. The first class rail travel was definitely the way to go as it set the scene for what was a sensational day. I learnt a lot about the Beatles at the museum that I didn't know previously and the tour of Liverpool where the Fab Four grew up and went to school was awesome. There was plenty of time after the tour to visit Mathew Street and enjoy some Beatles music and a drink in the Cavan Club before catching the train back to London._br/_ This experience was the highlight of my trip!

This is a self guided tour and it is easy to go round by yourself as Liverpool is a small city. Combining the magical misery tour, the Beatles story and the Cevern club, there are plenty to see about the Fab Four. The time required is about right too, though I finished earlier to take an earlier train back.

The bundle made this trip from London to Liverpool and back so easy. We had time for a quick lunch and a leisurely early dinner at a local pub. The trip was fun, entertaining and we learned information that we did not know before. Arrived back in London early enough to get a good nights sleep before our next busy day.

I LOVED this trip! My husband and I flew all the way from Las Vegas to London and Liverpool to have a Beatles-oriented trip. This tour was great because they help set the itinerary, get the tickets for you, but you are not beholden to a big tour group the entire day. It's great for people who like to have a skeleton of a trip planned and fill in the blanks with your own desired spots to see and experience.

Tour guide met us at Euston Station right on time and provided us everything we needed for a successful day trip. If you're a Beatles fan, this trip is worth it for the Magical Mystery Tour alone seeing each lad's childhood home, where John and Paul first met, The Cavern Club, and just the sites of Liverpool with an awesome guide was so much fun! The Beatles Story Museum is full of mostly replicas and just a history of the group, nothing too exciting if you already know everything about The Beatles. Timeline of events allows you to fully enjoy everything without feeling rushed.

This tour brought back a lot of memories and I enjoyed it immensely. I found that instructions as to where to go and what to do were too few and at times I felt lost, but I managed to see what I wanted to see. It would be nice if Liverpool actually put more signage up so it was easier to find places. The map we were given was a tad confusing.
