England in One Day: Stonehenge, Bath, the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon Day Trip from London

London, United Kingdom

Visit some of England’s most beautiful towns and countryside on this 12-hour tour of Stonehenge, Bath, the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon. Travel out of London by luxury coach to the prehistoric site of Stonehenge, and onward for a panoramic tour of Bath — both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Continue on with your guide through the Cotswolds countryside to the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Enjoy a visit to Shakespeare's birthplace, with Champagne and scones served in his picturesque garden. Combine vibrant history, gorgeous scenery and sightseeing at some of Britain's most popular attractions. Please note: As of April 1, Shakespeare's birthplace will be replaced with a visit to Shakespeare's Schoolroom, with Champagne and scones included.

Depart from near Victoria Railway Station in central London and leave the hustle and bustle behind you as you travel out into the English countryside by luxury coach. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride as London’s urban scenery gives way to the open greenery of the countryside.

First, head through the rolling Wiltshire plains to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Stonehenge, widely considered one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in the world. The enormous stones are believed to have been brought from the Preseli Mountains in Wales — a distance of over 280 miles (450 kilometers) — sometime between 3,000 BC and 2,000 BC, though to this day nobody is sure of the exact reasons for their arrangement and placement. Marvel at the huge stone circle, discover the many mysteries surrounding it and decide for yourself why Stonehenge was built.

Continue onward to the fine city of Bath, birthplace of authoress Jane Austin. Explore the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage-listed city — considered by many to be one of the prettiest cities in England — with your guide, and enjoy capturing its attractive Georgian architecture, crescents and terraces on camera. After your tour, enjoy a little free time to wander the cobbled streets and peruse the shops at your leisure.

Head north from Bath through the heart of the Cotswolds, widely thought of as one of the most beautiful stretches of countryside in England. Take in breathtaking views of open fields criss-crossed by dry stone walls as you travel, and bustling market towns with magnificent churches. Enjoy the spectacular scenery from the comfort of your coach.

Arrive in the charming town of Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare and home to the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company. Stratford is a charming market town set in the heart of rural England, with a delightful river winding its way slowly through the town. Enjoy Champagne and scones in Shakespeare's garden (the reception will take place indoors in winter), stretch your legs and explore Stratford to soak up the town’s wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. As of April 1, Shakespeare's birthplace will be replaced with a visit to Shakespeare's Schoolroom, with Champagne and scones included.

At the end of your time in Stratford-Upon-Avon, hop back in your coach for the return journey to London, where your tour will conclude.

Please note: during busy periods the order of the itinerary may change.

It was a long day but definitely worth it. We left early and got to Stonehenge while there were only a few visitors there by the time we got ready to leave the parking lot was full of tour buses. Got to Bath after a couple of hours and had an opportunity to visit The Baths and the Abbey. Both were beautiful and interesting. Drove through the Cotswolds which were so peaceful and lush and then on to Stratford to visit the school Shakespeare attended. We had scones and champagne after our lesson.: This was an abbreviated summary of the trip._br/_ The important part, however, was the commentary by our guide Leon and the expert driving of B. You might think that an 11 hour excursion would be monotonous but with Leon's information, anecdotes and humor throughout the trip the time passed quickly. Leon knew so much about each location we toured but pointed out many many interesting buildings, areas, towns along the way. One thing that we enjoyed was the English basis for many common sayings that we use._br/_ Would definitely recommend this tour--especially if you can get Leon and B.

Viator Tour of Stonehenge, Bath, Cotswolds, and Stratford on Avon, Sunday, May 20_br/_ This tour was disappointing - it was too long and the description of the what was included was misleading. _br/_ A lot of time was wasted at Stonehenge - waiting for the shuttle, riding on the shuttle, and then having to walk to Stonehenge_br/_ The stop at Bath did not include a tour of the Roman Baths, which we thought it did, and we barely had time to eat and walk around. _br/_ There was no stop at the Cotswolds - just endless driving looking at buildings with the same architecture. _br/_ Stratford on Avon was interesting, especially the tour at the school, but by the time we got there the guide said his home and church were closed but there wasn't anything to see there anyway. _br/_ The tour guide, Nick, was knowledgeable and pleasant but we felt rushed and sometimes he started walking very fast and we could not find him. Although he was tall he was hard to find in a crowd - most guides will have a brightly colored hat or vest so they are easy to see.

Yes there is a lot of bus time, but comfy and well done. Guides were great and if you only have a short time there, this day is filled with the must dos. Food was great and scenery was exceptional.

Unfortunately little time was left for the end of the tour so those interested in Shakespeare should probably go for a separate tour, but the tour was a good one on the whole.

Good trip with knowledgeable tour guide and very professional driver. _br/_ Wish we had more time in Stonehenge. We were early on a cloudy day but if you listen to all of the Stonehenge audio you do not have time for the visitors center or historic building display. Use of the audio is important in appreciating the site. However when referred to additional recordings be prepared to move thru them as you get further along in the tour as they can be very repetitive. Additional half hour here would help._br/_ Also wish we had more time in Bath. Unable to do Roman baths and church with pub lunch. Recommend you stay with quick lunch options if you hope to have a chance for both. Extra half hour would help._br/_ Stratford-upon-Avon was interesting and nice respite on the trip.

Considering the distance between the locations, this is a wonderful tour. It gives you a taste of each place with some great background information. Our tour guide, Mark, was very informative. You could easily spend more time at each of these sites, but if you are on a limited time-frame this is the way to do them! I wouldn't hesitate telling any of my friends to book this tour.

I booked this tour for my friends and I because I had never been to Stonehenge nor the Cotswolds and both were on my budget list. I knew the best way to see Stonehenge was through a tour. We had the best day ever!! We got to spend about 1.5-2 hours at Stonehenge. There is so much more than just the stones there which was a pleasant surprise.

I enjoyed this tour very much. I would have loved to see more of the Cotswalds, which we just passed through. Our guide, Magnus, was very good. He was full of knowledge about history and information on the places that we visited. I was also impressed that there were several drivers for the trip.

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. In particular, our guide David was excellent. We have traveled extensively with groups and have a wide range of experiences with tour guides. David would rank at the very top. He was knowledgeable, engaging and genuinely interested in each of the two dozen travelers representing at least eight different nations. While a long day, the the three destinations each were compelling and well worth visiting. While there was more to be seen at each stop, this tourgave a great overview. The only suggestion would be to provide the full itinerary for the day so all travelers understood travel time, time at destination, etc.

I highly recommend this tour as its a great way to see some key locations out of London as succinctly as possible. The tour guide we had was lovely - she provided lots of good information relevant to the history of the locations we were visiting and was very helpful.

The tour itself was amazing. It's a wonderful way to see many of the highlights of England in one day. Our tour guide, David, was very knowledgeable and pleasant. I felt that we spent an appropriate amount of time in each location. I generally don't focus on one negative thing, but the reason I can't give this tour five stars is because the heater was broken on the bus to the point where it was unbearable to sit in the back of the bus. I would guess the temperature in the bus was about 85F. The guide told us that the heat could only be on or off and that the temperature could not be regulated. People were actually feeling ill due to the heat. If the bus was broken, it simply should not have been utilized.

This tour was spectacular! Our tour guide Carol was extremely knowledgeable and entertained us throughout the day. This was our first tour that we have ever done and it proved to be a very good decision. Daniel, our driver, was very pleasant and managed to maneuver throughout the cities we visited.

We got to see a lot of the english countryside in one day instead of just seeing the city of London. Had free time at Stonehenge and Bath. We drove through the delightful Cotswolds and had afternoon tea of scones and champagne at Shakespeares school house.

Everything about this trip was fantastic, especially our guide and driver! This is a must do trip! The guides give you snippets of info about the city of London and also give you nap time during the long stretch to the Stonehenge. You get plenty of time at the site. Bath was cool as was Strafford Upon Avon. Must do this one!

This full day tour was outstanding. Our tour guide, John and the driver were interesting and entertaining. Each stop while short, gave us enough time to enjoy the key sights. The stop in Stratford upon Avon was especially good and gave me a better insight into Shakespeare and his works. I totally recommend this tour.

A long, but great day. Covered a lot of territory. Plenty of time in each of the 3 stops to do your own thing. No stops in the Cotswolds, but the coach goes along lots of the quieter scenic roads so you still get to see plenty of very pleasant scenery out of the windows. If you are short of time but still want to see lots of England this is the tour for you.

Good tour! Spent most of the day in the coach, as the sites were spaced far between. Time to spend at Bath not sufficient for museum viewing. That said, our guide Mark was friendly and informative, giving us a briefing before arriving at the site. Stonehenge was nothing much to see, but a puzzle in history so had to be viewed. Bath was interesting though time was short. Shakespeare school was interesting bit of history lesson, taking us back to our school days when we studied his plays. Driver Dan was a good and careful driver. A good tour to cover the some of the sights of a UK trip in a short time.

I wish I could remember her name, but our tour guide was a lovely person. She was very knowledgeable and made our bus tour fly by telling us stories. Stonehenge was windy, bring a jacket with a hood and don't wear your hair down or bring a brush!. Bath was incredible. I wish we had more time. I wouldn't recommend doing the Jane Austen house, unless you're a mega fan. I felt like it wasted a good part of the 1.5 hours we got in Bath, when, looking back, I would have much rather walked the little shops. Definitely do afternoon tea here, in any of the shops offering it. Stratford-upon-Avon was the one thing I would have done without. While it's Shakespeare's birthplace, I wasn't as excited and had wished we had more time in Bath.

It was a great tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide which was invaluable. This tour reaches significant distances in one day, so you have to be prepared to spend a lot of time on the Coach we spent a total of 12 hours on the tour. We felt like the time we had in Stonehenge was adequate, but would have liked to have more time in Bath to visit the baths themselves - the lines were pretty long that day. Stratford-upon-Avon was very interesting because we were able to visit Shakespeare's schoolroom. However, we only had Sunday available for our trip, and the town was mostly closed so apart from the school and walking the streets a bit, we were a little disappointed by that portion of the tour. We expect had it been any other day the town would have been more bustling.

Amazing tours! I highly recommend this tour! The tour guides are exceptional! Very knowledgeable and very well versed in the history of the area. The tour guides took the time to go to each individual and let them ask any questions. The docent at the Cotswolds was also very good. Everything about this tour was outstanding!

Absolutely amazing. The day flew by, because there was so much to see. Our guide I wish I could recall his name made all the difference with his enthusiastic personality, and impressive knowledge of British history. I do, however, wish we could have spent a little more time in Bath. 2 hours wasn't nearly long enough. The city is quite large, but by the time you tour the Roman baths, you have to get back on the bus. Another hour would have been nice, but still impressed with the trip, overall.

This was a long day but we saw a lot. From Stonehenge to Bath and Stratford on Avon. Im not really a Shakespeare person but our guide was fantastic. He was/is a Shakespearean actor originally from Ireland and he was very informative. I cant remember his name but possibly John? We spent some talking to him at Stratford while eating scones and drinking champagne, great guy. Stonehenge was great, perfect amount of time. Bath was good, a little more time would have been good we also enjoyed Stratford and it was a beautiful little town. Cotswold is lots of nice English countryside and if you want to take a nap while on the comfortable bus its not a problem.

This was a very good excursion -- a very long day but totally worth it! We arrived at Stonehenge before the masses of tourists did, and our tour guide, Jose, hurried us to the bus that took us to the monument. This rush annoyed us at first, but we realized later that it was for our benefit. When we returned to the visitor center, the line for the bus was very long! We stayed at the stones for so long that we didn't have much time available at the visitor center to see the exhibits this was our own fault, though.

Long, but amazing day! You are taken to four places on a road trip that lasts 12 hours, but part of that is a beautiful drive through the Cotswolds that includes a lot of background information from our terrific tour guide, Jose. We knew what we were getting in for a lot, but wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to see as much as we could in the time we had in England and this was it! Be ready for a busy day, though if you want to stay in any of these places more than about 90 minutes, take the train out on your own. The day ends with a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon where you are hosted by the schoolhouse with a lesson and champagne toast. Very enjoyable experience!

Review by:   cinsinbad,    October 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The Good: departed on time, clean bus, Magnus was informative he had notebook of info, Claude was good driver. The Bad: We had too much time at Stonehenge, only an hour at Bath enough for lunch only, and by the time we got to Stratford, it was almost closed, the only thing open was what was held open for us Guild Hall. We travelled 6000 miles to see Stratford but only saw the OUTSIDE of a church, the OUTSIDE of Nash, the OUTSIDE of the birthplace, no chance to even see the Outside of Hathaway, the entire town rolled the sidewalks up at 5pm and we go there about 4:45. The debacle of the bus location was Keystone Kops..meet at Church St, no, meet at Chapel, no, meet outside the Guild Hall, be there, we are there, the bus is not, walk to the bus station, try and find the bus driver...it's dusk, raining, and we're playing Where's Waldo. No dinner, no breakfast, just lunch, no drinks, nothing. At the very LEAST they should have driven us around Stratford, so it wasn't a street and a bus depot. In the medium range we saw tons and tons of Cotswolds, and after reviewing a map, you get the feel of it, that we killed the country roads...but we did the least interesting thing with the most amount of time and the most interesting thing with the least amounts of time. Drive back was silent, nice actually, but then the Keystones were back, we're dropping you at Victoria Train, no, Victoria Tube, No, Tube and Knightsbridge... it's 11 Pm, we're tourists and dumped into downtown London with no directions home. We ask for directions, get pointed the WRONG WAY and walked 6 blocks in the dark and no station, so finally find a McDonald's and he says go back 6 blocks, add two blocks, and there is Victoria Station. Tube stations close around midnight, so we ended up calling a cab. To my view, it would have been smarter to do Stratford first, then Bath and if we had to have only 15 minutes somewhere, do that at Stonehenge where 15 minutes is enough, more or less. To be fair, we were re-routed off the M4 at one point, and had to use a country road to connect to a major highway, but what a debacle. This was my brother's 60th birthday present, we flew 15 hours to get here, paid thousands of dollars for the trip, and only had 6 days in London, we gave an entire day for this trip to see Stratford, Bath, Stonehenge, and could not have enough time to see the Abbey or the Baths or the Fashion Museum, or anything at Stratford other than the Guild. Our group had people from Russia and China and the US and we all traveled long distances to be denied what we came for. Once time became so serious a problem it might have been better to ask the guests what they would prefer, like should we skip the Cotswolds and do Stratford or short ourselves at Stonehenge to 30 minutes or whatever, but to be THERE and not able to do anything or see anything was heartbreaking.

The trip was very nice, there could have been a little more time in Stonehenge, Bath was a lovely city and the ride was beautiful in the Cotswalds. Stratford was a little disappointing no Anne Hathaway's cottage, I was hoping just for a drive by at least. Still they delivered what was advertised, the tour guides were fun and informative. Would recommend it to anyone.

Wish we could have had more time to explore Bath, it was only a little over an hour so had to hurry our way through the roman baths. In this tour you get to see the countryside and beautiful villages, but the bus does not stop on any of them except Stratford. They changed the visit to Shakespeare's birth home to his school, and it was great!_br/_ One suggestion, verify your departure time!!! We came to the bus station 2 minutes before our departure time, and the bus had already left early they told us it had left half an hour before!. Luckily they put us on another bus and we caught up with our tour in Stonehenge. We didn't really understand why this happened... and we didn't have time to explore Stonehenge._br/_ Overall good experience. Thanks to our guide and driver!
