Jack the Ripper Tour and London Ghost Walk

London, United Kingdom

See the sinister side of London as you follow the blood-soaked footsteps of murderers Jack the Ripper and Sweeney Todd down gas-lit alleyways on a ghost walking tour of London. Arrive at each scary spot by motor coach as you listen to your guide dish out the gory details of the infamous killers on your provided headsets. Expect goosebumps as you approach Drury Lane, the most haunted theater in the city, and Fleet Street, but it's the stories of Jack the Ripper on the East End that will have you trembling with fear!

The year is 1888. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has just published his first Sherlock Holmes story; meanwhile, in the Whitechapel district of London's East End, five women are brutally murdered by the world's first recognized serial killer, Jack the Ripper.

See where Jack the Ripper preyed on his victims while your guide runs through some of the suspects in this unsolved case. Scotland Yard even considered Queen Victoria's grandson, the Duke of Clarence, to be a suspect at one point! It's one of several stops along a ghost walk of London's most notorious haunts.

Your tour commences at your selected departure point with a drive on the darker side of London. Pop in your state-of-the-art Vox whisper headphones and listen to your guide describe each site. You will see Drury Lane, which is said to be the most haunted theater in London, and your guide will explain why! Next, visit the Old Bailey—a site of numerous public hangings—and Fleet Street, home of the demonic barber Sweeny Todd and his accomplice Mrs Lovett, who allegedly baked pies from the flesh of his victims and sold them to unsuspecting customers.

Once in Whitechapel, disembark your motor coach and walk this death trail to inspect some of Jack the Ripper's murder sites, decipher the evidence and discuss the suspects. You'll even see the Ten Bells pub, established in 1752, where many of the merciless killer's victims came to drink.

The tour finishes at a traditional pub near Trafalgar Square—you might need a drink (own expense) to calm your nerves after this enthralling ghost walk.

I can't say enough good things about John, the tour guide. We were on the Underground train when it broke down. Lucky for us, the train broke down at an underground station. We got off and ran outside looking for a taxi. Finally, after 10 minutes looking, we found a taxi. However, it was already after the 15 minute early check-in and we had 5 minutes before the tour started. We arrived at Trafalgar Square and ran up to the first tour bus we could find and asked for directions to the check-in area. As we were asking for directions, a gentleman, John, approached us with his tour, as they were trying to board the bus. He asked if there was anything he could do and I explained the situation. He asked if we minded waiting for a moment while he boarded his tour onto the bus and we obliged. While his tour was boarding, he approached us again and asked how he could help. He asked us what tour we were looking for and we told him, we were late for our Jack the Ripper Tour. He asked us our names and it just so happened, HE was our tour guide. He told us not to worry and that he would take care of everything and we could just board the bus for our tour. We were so elated!!!

We were very disappointed in this trip after reading the reviews. We found our guide John to be brusque and the tour felt rushed. There were many times we couldnt hear him when he was talking and then he rushed off to the next spot leaving a trail of bemused tourists. One tourist actually left the tour halfway through, he was clearly that unimpressed! We were collected from our hotel, the Strand Palace to begin the tour. The tour began immediately with John pointing out the supposedly haunted Drury Lane theatre from a side view on the coach. We could barely see it. Everywhere we went we were given a blurted out explanation of where we were, but as mentioned previously without a microphone it was nigh on impossible to hear John if we werent stood right next to him. It was very frustrating. The fish and chip stop was unnecessary and didnt justify the time taken out of the tour in my opinion, although it was very tasty. If this is the reason for the tour being much more expensive than others on offer, I would suggest to lose the snack and get on with the tour. At one point John grunted Wheres my driver? when the coach wasnt parked up where he expected it to be. At the end of our tour we were expecting to be dropped off at The Strand Palace but instead we were dropped off a short walk away. We felt very much that we were being disposed of as quickly as possible. Based on our experience from which I have very little memory of the actual talks, I can not recommend this trip.

We couldn't wait to go on this tour but that got spoiled quickly as our tour guide was extremely rude. His name was John. My son was a little motion sick from the bus ride and the tour guide basically kicked us off the tour in the middle of England and told us he couldn't let my son back on the bus if he was motion sick because the passenger wouldn't like it. I luckily found an Uber to get us back to our hotel. DONT BOOK THIS TOUR.

We would not recommend this tour. Our guide talked a lot but said little of substance and really didn't provide perspective on the murders till the end of the tour on the way back to our drop off point. If we could we have left in the middle we would have done so. We spent more time talking about Fish and Chips and waiting for them than we did learning about Jack the Ripper.

It was extremely difficult to find this tour company or the tour leader, had to run to catch them in their second stop by the hotel. I called the number provided so many times to get directions and let them know my whereabouts but Company reps NEVER ANSWERED the phone, For the experience itself it was a lot less than what I expected....although I like the mystery environment and the spooky nature of the whole jack the ripper story, but in reality it wasn't as good...it wasn't that thrilling to walk and see some old walls where the ripper's victim were killed. Fish and chips provided was Ok. Save your time and choose another tour as London has a lot to offer. Wish I could have used the 3.5 hours tour time in somewhere else..like tower of London for example.

The tour was ok, I have been on Jack the Ripper Tours before in London but my husband had never been so we choose this one as it said Sweeney Todd in the description and ghost walk. The only mention of Sweeney Todd is when you drive by a corner and the walk is ok but our tour guide carried on about how nothing was the same anymore and then about the reason we stop for Fish and Chips like he thought it was a bad idea which honestly it kind of is a bad idea for a tour that late in the day to stop for a partial dinner Most of our group had already eaten and were a little annoyed we had to all stand there and wait for food when we really would have rather heard more about ghosts or Jack the Ripper.

What an amazing experience. We got way more than expected. The only concern we had prior to the trip was, did the guest houses have en suite bathrooms? we just booked it, not knowing, no one mentioned or complained about it on the prior reviews. turned out fantastic. the guest houses were all charming, warm and welcoming. The one couple who had chosen hotels were far away for the rest of us. so if you are undecided, the guest houses were fine. only one guest house i did not like, that was Kings Arms Hotels in Skye. The dang hotel was hot all the time unexpected warm weather we had maybe and wifi only in the lobby. so get your pajamas on, then go down to the lobby to do all your stuff... not comfortable. Other than that, rest were great, breakfasts were great too. _br/_ So, we packed for 50F, and rain. weatherman got this all wrong we had 70's and sunshine. sometimes hotter. I don't think anyone had summer clothes to wear. NOT complaining, and the weather sure made this trip way more enjoyable! Also, another two lucky things: we were to be a group of 25 on a larger bus. Something was wrong with that bus, so they split it. we got the small bus with Fergie. that was truly a blessing. he was so knowledgeable, told fantastic stories with drama, while driving, I know, right? how? They were so interesting, the bus was held quiet, so attentive when he told them. Then like little kids we would ask for more stories! He was great answer all questions, great at making sure everyone got what they wanted. OH, one thing that topped all was our first stop, somehow both my hubby and I heard the wrong time and we were exactly 30 minutes late. rather than leaving us there, they waited. could have been a different rating! totally our fault but thank goodness they were all kind enough to wait. so to recap, these three things made this trip perfect: the smaller group, the weather, and definitely Fergi. WE WOULD DO THIS WHOLE TRIP AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT, if you guaranteed those three things!

The guide was very knowledgeable. The night of the tour was perfect for the drama being a cold and wet night. Engaged the group in every aspect and was able to impart the facts in a dramatic way. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, one I will definitely do again.

The tour guide John knew his material, but was the rudest tour guide I ever ezperienced. Google Jack the Ripper and John. You will find this tour for $10, which is all it is worth if you are willing to put up with this egomaniac.

Our guide was extremely interesting, and was very much able to convey the importance of the history of Old London as it relates to the subsequent influence on English culture itself. Since he is a London native himself, he was able to give us plenty of old English lore and a local's perspective about the things we were seeing. He seemed to convey a sense of value to the stories about the homes, castles, walls, and monuments we walked by. This greatly added to our experience as mere tourists. My knowledge of the English language is improved now because of the guide's descriptions of the origins of commonly used English phrases like: Under the Table, London Bridge is Falling Down, and Ring around the Rosey. As proud Americans, we often do not often think about Britain and the real origin of the way we are as former English subjects. But when seeing The Old City of London and having the history explained, our own way of life becomes much more clearly explained and defined, as does the basis our own civil liberties and social expectations within an English speaking nation. I would hope that as Americans, we will continue to look to the British as an example of a peaceful society ruled by reason and discussion and one which employs an impartial government. Every American and citizens of English speaking lands must participate in this kind of tour and realize the amazingly important history it imparts.

This was supposed to be one of the highlights of my stay in London. The tour guide John was a real let down. Could not keep on track. Kept talking about silly irrelevant things. He did have good knowledge though, but could not communicate it in an engaging manner. Tried make it into a quiz show at times. Very disappointed.

Guide John from Scotland was great but the title is misleading as really not a ghost tour, mainly Jack the Ripper story only. John gets 5 stars but overall would give it a 2-3. Would not recommend unless it was with John and someone really wants to hear about Jack the Ripper only. Then maybe just get John and do private.

Very interesting, though not spooky enough for my daughter :- We didn't have to walk too far which was great and the guide was really informative. I have come away with a much greater interest in Jack the Ripper than when we embarked upon the tour.

The tour guide was engaging and dramatic, who brought this whole tour to life. While the places we visited were reasonably commonplace, the stories behind the unsolved crimes of Jack-the-Ripper added mystery and intrigue that brought chills up my spine. The historical aspect of the stories also added richness to the experience. A fun and intriguing tour!

Very hot and crowded day at the Louvre. Choose your day carefully. We went on a holiday weekend. Big difference in Paris once the kids return to school after long weekend. Good knowledgeable guide but experience hampered by environment that day.

This tour was great! We loved David our guide, who did a great job of telling the history and myth of white chapel. We loved walking the neighborhood and hearing the stories as we walked. Very spooky and great taste of London's dark history

This was our first time in London. My daughter wanted to do a ghost tour and we found one that worked with our schedule. While this was less of a ghost walk and more of a history lesson, it was fascinating. Our tour guide did a great job of making us feel as if we were back in time seeking what the victims and killer saw. If you like history this is a great tour.

This tour was a major disappointment, a waste of time and money and not even entertaining. Calling this tour a walk is a misnomer, since there is not much walking involved. I thought the bus ride would be a quick trip to the Jack the Ripper sites of London, but this was not the case. If you want to view sites from a bus/coach, you may enjoy parts of this tour. The content sounds as if it came from a 1970s movie. In other words, not accurate, but even worst not entertaining I expect some inaccuracies on these tours. The tour also take place while it is light and it felt rush as if the guides were ready to go clubbing that evening. Beware of this tour. I wished I had paid attention to the low ratings ... they are true!

Our guide gave a good detailed history of the crimes and the area's they were committed in, however on more than one occasion as we were being told the stories our guide remembered he hadn't told us an earlier part of the time line and relayed that information in the middle of another part of the story so it became a little muddled at times, this said we did enjoy our Jack the Ripper tour and the ear phone commentary was excellent when walking in busy London streets.

Jack the Rip off tour! DO NOT DO THIS TOUR! This tour was terrible and we were extremely disappointed. It was promised to be a walking tour but we hardly walked around the streets of White Chapel and our guide did not even take us to the places the murders took place he would just point from a distant. After 40 minutes he took us to an Asian restaurant where you were forced to buy a drink and just talk for 30 minutes with the other tour participants. Then there was only another 15 minutes more dicussion of Jack the Ripper before we were bundled into a bus and taken back to the centre of London.
