London Ghost Walking Tour

London, United Kingdom

London is known for more than just fish and chips and the iconic Big Ben — it’s also home to famous ghosts that haunt the city streets. Venture through the spooky side of London on this guided nighttime walking tour, and learn the city’s eerie history as you visit some of its most haunted sites, like the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and St James's Palace. Hear intriguing ghost stories and legends about famous figures like Jack the Ripper, Henry VIII and more. It’s the perfect night for those who enjoy a good scare!

Take a journey through the dark side of London on this ghostly nighttime walking tour, and listen as your guide tells you stories of the city’s haunted past of murder, execution and mystery.

After meeting your group, make your way to London’s most haunted park — a forgotten plague pit. Then, move on the St James's Palace where a royal murder took place and murky mystery behind the haunting. Continue on to the most haunted house in London which has spine tingling tales, and the Royal Academy where nuns can be heard screaming and doors slamming!

Scared? Don't worry, your guide will protect you from the spooky ghosts while providing lots of interesting historical insight. Continue to Eaton Place in Belgravia and learn the legend of the Unknown Warrior, an unidentified soldier buried in Westminster Abbey in 1920. When night falls and the church goes quiet, he can still be seen standing beside his grave.

Next, head to the riverfront for a walk along the Thames River where you will hear myths about the Lady in Black (who haunts All Hallows church), the ghosts of Downing Street and, of course, the mysterious Jack the Ripper, one of London’s most legendary murderers.

As you approach the Tower of London with its towering, ominous grey stone walls, learn about the many ghosts of people who were executed and murdered there, including wives of Henry VIII. You may even see Queen Anne Boleyn, the Tower’s most sighted ghost who was beheaded there in 1536 and can still be seen wandering the corridors at night — without a head, of course.

You will use public transportation on this tour, so be prepared with a charged Oyster card or a valid ticket. But don’t worry, you can also purchase one at the start of the tour.

Apparently, London is a lot less spooky than I anticipated. Lots of walking, not that much info.

Small group. Guide was highly informative and enthusiastic about each of the locations and stories attached to each location. Also allowed us to see major areas and landmarks of London at night.

Tour guide Natalie was very experienced only a couple months on the job. This really showed in her delivery of the material, which was not great. She nearly lost her group in the park because she was so far ahead and texting instead of looking. When asked about it she was sarcastic and said people should keep up. Then lost two when she failed to make sure people got through the tube gate, and couldn't help them because she was on the other side. Poor service.

This was a fun and quirky tour the guide was amazing so enthusiastic and full of information. I got to see areas of London yet explored. Great tour

The guide did not turn up, we waited along with a number of other people for an hour past the scheduled time but no guide arrived. So I cannot comment on the actual tour hope other people have more than a ghost of a chance

The tour was at 6 PM on a summer day, so our guide mentioned that it was less spooky due to the sun still being out. That being said, Natalie did her best to impart ghost stories around London, but he storytelling abilities were sub-par. She was very nice and we left having a greater appreciation for some of London's history, but this was not a scary ghost tour at all. After reading the reviews of other customers, I wish Tom had been our tour guide.

missed out on this one. Rock and Roll tour was longer than we expected

Great tour. There were no other people joining the group, so we had a private tour! Our guide, Tom, was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The weather was, for once, perfect, so we had an excellent evening.

I loved the London Ghost walking tour. The guide had this eerie way of telling about all the ghosts that haunt London. Truly amazing and will give you a chill :

This was a great walking tour. Joe, our guide, is funny and a great storyteller. He answered all of my group's weird/random questions. Would definitely recommend. Thanks Joe!

Entertaining tour around London, although stories told were nothing that you couldn't find online.

Review by:   Lucy V,    April 2015 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
The tour was good, not particularly scary but interesting enough - if you have a spare night in London and you're into plague pits and hainted buildings, this is a good one.

We enjoyed the tour and the historical content very much._br/_ However there were far too many people on it so you couldnt always hear- 50+. Also Viator said there would be a river trip to finish- there was not! We had to pay extra to catch the underground train back to Tower Hill- unsatisfactory!

Not our favourite, there was no local history given and even though the description says a Thames boat ride, there was none. We were dropped off at the tower with no place to go. Have had much better ghost tours, and was very dissapointed. Not a great way to start our vacation in london

The tour was very interesting and was great value for the price £16 each! Joe, our guide, was very good and commanded good respect from the visitors. His tales were informative and well delivered. Overall, a highly enjoyable experience!

Don't waste your money! They stories were ok but not shocking and not very interesting. The description said it would talk about Jack the Ripper but 2 sentences was not a story and the Thames boat ride was on the public Oyster card on off boat and it was short the guide didn't even talk during the ride. The tour ended in from of the Tower castle and he again spoke very briefly. During the walking tour he walked very fast, we stopped at the parks and in front of a house and he told us short stories, nothing special. Spend your money on something else!

I went on this tour with my two daughters, it was on the day of my youngest 18th. We had Tom as our guide who was excellent, his stories were really good, his own personal story was very engaging. He even managed to chat with lots of the group during the tour. We particularly enjoyed the boat trip, not to mention the wine, all in all a lovely walk round London with some vivid stories and great company, good job Tom

Extremely funny, it is a must do in London. The only thing I would point as 'not perfect' is that our guide was speaking really fast - for my sister and my brother-in-law who were with me in the tour it was very hard to understand as they dont speak English every day, so I had to tell them most of the stories we heard later on because they didnt understand them. What I did in a very nice pub, having some beers

The guide we had was lovely and very knowledgeable. There is a lot of travelling involved which was fine but I would have liked a couple more stops with more ghost/history stories. The group size was very large which the guide handled well but I think the tour would benefit from either more guides or more tour times to stagger demand. We enjoyed the boat ride although it would have been better if there were more toilets on the boat as there was only one. Would definitely book with Viator again.

We booked our tour as a 30th birthday surprise for our sons and went on the Saturday before Christmas. We really enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about London too. Our guide, Tom, really knew his stuff and told lots of stories. We would definitely do another one. Maybe Jack the Ripper next time!!!

The Ghost Walking Tour was a big hit with the kids and excellent value for money given the inclusive river trip. The walking was good exercise too. The guide was enthusiastic and entertaining, thank you Joel.

This 'Ghost tour' was simply a fast walk around London by night. No atmosphere. Total rip off.

Review by:   denise a,    October 2013 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Perhaps we were expecting something a bit more scary but it seemed more like a walk around London's historical buildings! The guide was enthusiastic and we saw a lot more of London by foot than we would have done.

I give this tour a 1 star rating. One of the worst tours I've paid for. Guide was boring, stories too long and he walked too fast. All we did was walk to places where he told " ghost stories". I think they just stopped in front of a building and told any story they wanted. We thought we would receive a nice Thames river boat ride but it was no more than a 10 minute fairy in a covered boat. Extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

Pretty fun! You get your money's worth with a walking tour and a boat ride. Only problem was that it was a little on the long side so make sure to wear your walking shoes since there is a lot of walking involved. Overall, a good time with a great, fun guide! Do it if you have some extra time!

I expected a spooky and scary walking tour but it turned out to be more of a comedy. The tour guide was a nice young fellow who took us to different parts of the city and told us about strange occurrences but he made us laugh more than anything. He didn't even mention Jack the Ripper. The cruise on the river was nice and relaxing but if you are looking for a spooky tour, this is not it.

Guide was good told us at the end that he had only been doing the job for 2 weeks....you wouldn't of guessed! The group was far too large, need smaller intimate group to ensure you have that 'ghost' feeling. Too many people for a walking tour.

Entertaining guide takes you on a fast paced walk around London. Didn't see any ghosts but the stories were good.

Tour of the city and boat ride was nice, but the content was a little scattered and not very informational. Everone has a bad day...I guess?

The instructions specified to meet "in front of the statue at the entrance to Green Park". We discovered that there are multiple entrances, all with statues. We raced from entrance to entrance to find the group. We were able to catch up with them before they left the park. Add the entrance's street

Decided not to go. At 7 pm it's still day light. The streets filled with people returning home from work. Pubs filled etc.

We were hoping for more Jack the Ripper sights and more information on him, since he is one of the most famous London killers, however we really learned a great deal of interesting facts about the city, the history, and got goose bumps a few times :) Be prepared to do a lot of walking during this 2.5 hours tour, wear comfy shoes! My feet hurt after we were done. The boat tour down the Thames was a nice break with great views of the city!

The ghost walk was basically a walk, train ride and Thames boat ride with a guide. The guide gave us some talk on supposed ghosts in different locations and then made fun of it. If you really want a ghost walk this isn't it. Very dissaointing.

I've been on many ghost walks all around the UK and the rest of the world. This was my first in London and frankly it was disappointing. _br/_ The guide, Ferry, was a nice guy. The stories seemed like he had googled them 10 mins before. And he wasn't such a great story teller- jumping from one part to another, making them difficult to comprehend. The stories lacked in historical content and the spots we stopped at to tell stories were mostly, a bit rubbish and uninspiring. _br/_ The guide was a nice guy and at times quite comical, just seemed like he had somewhere to be straight after the tour.

The tour guide met us at the agreed spot and was very punctural, welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Our experience with the Ghost Walking Tour was very entertaining. We were taken to the most haunted spots in London and given all the details of the hauntings. We used the Underground once and also moved efficiently to the Tower of London on a Thames boat cruise. Our guide was a wealth of information and answered all of our questions as well as providing lots of information about the ghosts of London. Very very enjoyable experience. As well, when we called the local contact number to confirm our reservations once we were in London, we met with very friendly, efficient and helpful service. Everything advertised was delivered.

Tour was ok but daylight hours didn't create the right ghostly effect. Guide left us in the middle of the city and said goodbye.
