London to Stonehenge Shuttle Bus and Independent Day Trip

London, United Kingdom

If you'd like to visit Stonehenge without a guide, pre-book now for a fast, hassle-free independent day trip. It's the best way to arrange a do-it-yourself tour if you have limited time. Collect your Stonehenge entrance tickets (included in the tour price!) and free audio-guide before exploring at your own pace. Great value for money.

Stonehenge stands alone in the vast empty tract of Salisbury plain. Its origins date back nearly 5,000 years and it has been home to pagan religion, spiritual worship and public debate ever since. What was this vast collection of stones intended for? Was Stonehenge an observatory of the moon, a temple to the sun, or an elaborate cemetery? Who were the people who carried and carved these 40 ton rocks? Prepare to be amazed as you walk around its perimeter and ponder this mysterious feat of ancient engineering.

Note, you can spend approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes at Stonehenge. The journey from London takes just over 2 hours each way.

We booked the half day tour; 2 hour drive to/from Stonehenge and 2hours to visit. Once arrived at Stonehenge, it took us 45minutes to get to the stones due to the crowds. The Stonehenge buses were poorly ran and there were not enough to transport visitors. We took only 15minutes to take pictures at the Stones then ran back to the bus line to make sure we would get back to our bus in time. We had no time to look at visitors shop or buy any food/drink. Our bus driver told everyone what time to be back. Even though not everyone was back, we did leave because he had to stay on schedule, which I understand, and he did even leave 7minutes later than expected. About 25min into our drive he states we have to turn around to pick up people who missed the bus because there are no other buses available. I do blame the selfish people who took their time despite being told what time we were leaving. I can't believe the tour company couldn't send some other vehicle at that point. We were very frustrated, hungry and hot. The air conditioning on the bus would shut off if the doors opened or the bus was turned off. Stonehenge was poorly managed for the crowds they had that day and I am very disappointed my family and I couldn't experience more.

- The bus left with a delay of 30 minutes because the organisation was really not good and the person who checked our tickets had to call her staff everytime in order to check our tickets_br/_ - When I booked, it was said we would be in a air-conditioned bus however on the outward journey their was NO air-conditioning which was truly horrible because it was super hot during 2 hours _br/_ - Contrarily to all the comments that I have seen, our bus driver didn't tell us any stories about Stonehenge which was a bit of a shame... but anyway_br/_ - On the return, we left with a delay of 40 minutes because we had to wait for some ladies to come in the bus even though they never showed up so I was a bit annoyed with all this bad organization. Maybe you guys should take the phone number of every participant in order to avoid these problems

It was a pretty long day just to see Stonehenge, but it was a small price to pay to see a Wonder of the World! The Trip there and back was longer than I expected, but it was comfortable. We had plenty of time to check out the monument. Fortunately, I didn't care about the gift shop and I read quickly, otherwise it may not have been enough time for some people. But it didn't matter to me!

It was a cold and rainy day with lots of holiday traffic, and yet we still had a positive experience. Martin, the driver, had a wonderful sense of humor and the journey was pleasant.

Stonehenge was amazing! However, I was not a big fan of those that facilitated this trip. We did not start on time, which gave us only 1 1/2 hours at Stonehenge. The driver was not very friendly and he did not drop us off at the same place from which we departed. If you are not from the area, this is disorienting to say the least.

No frills, they bring you there and bring you back. I went on quite a few trips on this vacation and this was the only trip that the drivers, guide didn't say a word the whole time, no pointing out sites etc. I'm not complaining about it, but it was a bit odd. Unfortunately, I think he did quite a bit of talking on the way back but didn't use the mic so we couldn't hear what he was saying. Once again not a complaint and the tour did what it promised, just info for others that may be expecting a bit more personable experience.

Friendly driver and plenty of time to see the site! Great experience. Although my audio stopped working about half way through, I enjoyed seeing the sight. Smooth ride and nice to have him point out various sites on the way there too. Really appreciated that!

Stonehenge was on my bucket list, and I'm so glad I decided to book this tour. The coach was easy to find, the attendant friendly, the ride to/from the site very pleasant and scenic!, and the visit to the site itself was incredible. The driver allotted us about 2 hours to explore, which was just the right amount of time, in which I could listen to the entire audio tour, do some slow walking around the site, and visit the café and gift shop. If you have 6-7 hours to spare on your trip to London, I highly recommend it.

Trip took forever in the bus due to traffic and then rain. We had little time to see everything at Stonehenge.

This is exactly the tour we were looking for: A no-frills, there-and-back shuttle ride. It didnt take the whole day, we got in when the sun was setting perfect photo ops, we had just the right amount of time to spend there, and the price was equivalent to what we would have paid by taking a combination of trains and buses, plus admission.

We were under the impression we would get someone telling us about the area and Stonehenge on the drive. This was not the case. So, we just took in the surrounding area. It is beautiful! It is a bit of a drive, so you can soak up the countryside! Once there, it was very busy, but we had a skip the line, which was awesome. Wear comfortable shoes, as you are walking a lot. Where they drop you is not where the stones are. You have to board a bus or 2 mile walk and they drive you to the stones and drop you off. Thankfully, they have buses running constantly, so the long lines move pretty fast. You have a recorded message to listen to while touring stones.Good information. You are limited by time, but it is plenty to see everything you want to see. We spent time at the stones, listening to information. Then we went to outside exhibit and explored, then we went to gift shop, followed by food.Saw everything, and it was wonderful! One more thing off bucket list.

We all really enjoyed this trip out of London! I was bummed that we would not be able to walk amongst the stones but it turned out to be great. Everyone could take photos of the stones and while there might be people in the far background, the stones themselves were photo ready. It was very interesting!

Despite is a wonderful destination, we did not have access to audioguides which are included originally in the package. Just because we arrive here after 3pm there are not excuses for a complete service

This was a very enjoyable trip. I can't imagine going to England and NOT visiting Stonehenge. The formations are amazing and the information was given in an easy to understand, personalized way. The only downside is the long bus ride to and from London. The coach was comfortable and well maintained, but a 2hr plus ride is always boring and long. But again, I can't imagine NOT going to Stonehenge and am very glad we did.

It was a good trip! My friend and I enjoyed it a lot! It took us 2 hours each way. And we had about two hours at Stonehenge. It would be great if the time could be slightly longer that we could finish all the audio guides! Great view by sunset, really recommended!

Coaches on these trips are advertised as having toilets- and this is a very important thing for people of a certain age and those who may need such facilities. There was such a facility on the coach I used, BUT, it was locked and the driver I asked about it didn't offer me any solace. This greatly limited my enjoyment of the drive to and from Stonehenge. There was a comfort stop en route to Stonehenge, although none on the return journey. I confidently predict that the rule to lock the facility was made by a young person in full control of their faculties!

My husband and I enjoyed this tour. Malcolm was great. He was a great coach driver and also knowledgable of the history of london and stonehenge. His insights made us open our minds about stonehenge. He had a great sense of humor which made the trip more fun. His driving was great too. This is an independent trip where you will be handed out audio guides and you have the leisure to go around stonehenge on your own. Just make sure to be back on the coach on the agreed time of returning or else you have to go back to London on your own. We love this trip!

This was the perfect tour for the money. Our tickets included and audio tour once we got to the stones, which was all we needed. We even had time to shop and explore the other parts of the museum, plus we still did things in London when we got back.

Professional compan but the advertisement was off on timimg significantly. The tour left 15 min late and it took 2.5 hours to get there and the driver was worried it could have been longer with worse traffic. We didnt get on site until 3.20 and the park service stops taking people to the stones at 4 so we almost missed it. We werent back to london until after almost 8. I would reccommend taking the morning as there was a chance we would have rode all that way for nothing.

Very professional and effective tour- on time, safe and easy ride, driver provided good anecdotes and narrative of some notable sites in the city of London, able to procure the audio tour for the visit which made the whole visit worthwhile, great sites.

If you don't want to spend a whole day away from London, this is perfect. Just saw Stonehenge and got back in the afternoon to pursue other adventures! Our driver, Daniel, was very courteous as we were coming back in to the city, he made sure we all knew what stops to take, or where to walk, etc to find our next destinations...... Stonehenge was great the weather didn't cooperate though. It was hard to stay right at the monument too long in a driving rainstorm. We were still glad we got to see it there was a café and other inside things to see there as well....

This tour was amazing. If you are looking for a simple and effective way to visit Stonehenge this tour will suit your needs. Two hours is more than enough time at the site. The audio tour that is provided will meet the needs of most visitors. No need to pay for a guided tour.

Good trip and lovely sunny day. Well organised and an interesting destination . The bus driver was marmite- actually he was great in part- safe driver and some interesting commentary on the way down. On the way back we had constant radio chopping and changing stations but often on commercial stations. Lots of foreigners on the trip and this felt unwelcome and inappropriate. As did he loud opinions on so many subjects in discussions with front seat passengers. They may have enjoyed it but it was a pain for the rest of the bus.

My husband and I wanted to experience for ourselves this amazing structure, and we did, and it pretty much looked like the photos shared on here. We walked to the bus station early in the morning and headed to our destination which took less than two hours depending on traffic. I must say, the lines were pretty long when we got there, but it was worth it since this was an independent tour in which we were given headphones to give us history of the area and Stonehenge. We had enough time to take photos. We can now remove this off our bucket list. The reasons behind the Stonehenge is still unknown to us, but nevertheless these are the coolest rocks we've ever seen.

A group of 6 of us booked this last minute, the night before, and it was awesome! We went on a Saturday morning, the ride was smooth, comfortable and scenic. Once there, the lines to get on the shuttle bus that take you to the rocks were pretty long both going and coming back so make sure you plan for that as you have a set time to return to the coach bus to head back to London. The lines are likely shorter on weekdays though. I recommend doing the early trip, so that way you get back to London early afternoon and still have time to do other things!

Good trip, but the bus ride nearly 2 hours because of London traffic was longer than the time on site. Some walking involved from the shuttle bus drop off. Crowded. Lots of school kids.

The tour was excellent. The coach bus left on time as scheduled and we had a great driver with wonderful personality. We were given a sightseeing tour as we left the city with commentary given on significant landmarks. As we approached Stonehenge we were given a mini background briefing on the attraction. This proved to be very helpful because when we arrived the audio guides were already passed out, so we didn't have to waist precious time waiting for returns. My primary purpose was to take photographs and the tour gave enough time to circle the stones and take photographs from all angles.

Nice quick trip, although it is about two hours to get to Stonehenge from London, and a bit more with traffic. The trip was a bit crazy. The bus driver tried to avoid the heavy traffic and while backing up to do a U-turn on street backed into a sign which smashed the entire back window out. Luckily no one was sitting right at the back. Also, with safety glass it just kind of crumbled. He wanted to call another bus to come get us, however, this is a half day trip that leaves at 2 pm and Stonehenge admittance closes at 5. If we waited for another bus then we would miss it completely. Many of us only had that time set aside to see Stonehenge. So we encouraged him to carry on. He pulled over and cleaned up the glass as best he could and closed the back curtains, and carried on! There was no one in the back few rows, there was no discomfort. A young couple were all about getting their money back, that seemed to be all they cared about. They made numerous calls from their cellphones to the company to complain and said they didn't feel safe and so on. The rest of us on the bus encouraged the driver to keep going. He was very concerned about it but we went the whole way. When we came out another bus and driver were there for us to travel back. An interesting experience. The half day is plenty to see Stonehenge. He still gave us two hours to see it and really after you look at it, there's a gift shop and tea room. Probably an hour and a half would be enough. I would recommend get on the shuttle at the gift shop that takes you to the site as soon as you get there so you can see it then with what time you have left look at the gift shop and grab a snack. Glad we made it and I hope the poor driver isn't in too much trouble.

This trip is a bus ride only. No guide. if busy not audio equipment either. If you want to do this do your research ahead of time so you know what you're looking at. Also it is in the middle of the boonies - not even a wind break so be prepared with a good jacket.

The bus ride was terribly uncomfortable. There was barely any room between the seats. I could not sit with my legs straight as there was no room, and had to spend the entire two hours twisted in my seat with my legs in the aisle. Brutal. Stonehenge itself was great. I recommend finding a different way to get there.

Simple and straightforward. The bus left promptly from Victoria Coach Station, two hour ride to Stonehenge, two hours at the site plenty of time, then two hours back. When we arrived, our driver picked up and distributed our tickets to get onto the shuttle bus to the stones, so no standing in ticket lines. _br/_ NOTE: If you are thinking about the 2:00 p.m. trip and want the audio tour headphones, this may be a problem. When we got there, not enough people had returned their headsets, so there were none available. I didn't want them anyway, but I know it's important to some people.

If you are in England you must go see Stonehenge. When else will you get a chance? Although you can't get up close, a camera or phone with a zoom works well. The tour gave us plenty of time at Stonehenge, but not necessarily enough to spend a long time in the gift shop. It was short enough that we were back in London early enough to do other things that evening. They have a free audio app that you can download. It is the same that they will give you for the audio tour, with all the stops numbered and playable on your phone. That will save you some time, maybe 5 - 7 minutes, that you can use in the gift shop if you want.

It got me to Stonehenge and back to London. Our bus driver, Daniel, was nice but i felt he was a little bit of an aggressive driver. And the listing mentioned the audio tour would be included but when I went to the kiosk to pick one up I was told that our leader should have given us a voucher but he never did! It would have been nice to have an actual tour guide along for the ride to give us real direction. Our bus driver admitted to me that he'd never even been to the monument or the visitor center! _br/_ Also, not the companies fault, but Stonehenge ran out of English guide maps by 10am! Crazy!

Sorry, I cannot give it a five because there were no audio headsets available. I read that we could download it via free wifi in the visitors center, but I never was able to download it. My advice, go to the app store before you leave and download the tour for Stonehenge that is offered by the English Heritage Group it looks like a jagged red square. A nice surprise at the end of the tour, back in London, is that we were given the choice of two drop-off points. I chose the Gloucester stop and walked to Harrods.

Great tour! Getting to the Victoria Coach Station was a breeze and our bus driver Malcom was very funny and informative. He ended up giving us a guided tour of London as we passed the sites on the way out of the city and some background on Stonehenge as we got closer. We had plenty of time to see Stonehenge and the exhibition and then we were back in London by early evening. Perfect tour for anyone wanting to see Stonehenge but not spend all day out of the city. Affordable as well!

I read many reviews before booking this trip. Just returned and it was fabulous. Some people will say the pick up location for this tour Victoria COACH Station is hard to find. Not true. We took a cab since we're not early birds and needed to catch the 8:15am bus. The station is close to Victoria train station and easy to find. The moment we walked in, we located a staffer who pointed us to our departure slot. Easy. The company loads several day tours from the same spot but they clearly announced each departure. A staffer escorted our group to the bus so there was no way to get on the wrong bus. The bus loaded and left on time. The driver was lovely. He provided information on the neighborhoods of London as we departed the City. Once on the open road, he pointed out interesting things about the countryside. The drive was very scenic. We arrived at Stonehenge around 11:15. We had about 1-1 1/2 hours to tour the site. I suggest you board the shuttle bus to the site immediately and save the visitor center for later if you have time. This tour includes an audio guide, which was very comprehensive. We spent the entire time at the stones, walking and listening to the audio guide. The bus driver suggested we allot 20 minutes to return to the bus. That was good advice. It takes a few minutes to board the shuttle and then go to the bathroom, etc. We didn't have time for the visitor center or the gift shop good for my pocketbook!. It took about 15 minutes to get back to the bus. One couple never made it back! The driver was great about waiting but we all understood that he eventually had to leave. We arrived back about 15 minutes late, mainly due to waiting for the no-shows. This is a wonderful 1/2 day tour that gives you the essentials about Stonehenge. You can always do more research on your own. A plus tour and service. I would take their full-day tours based on the quality if this one. This is a self-guided tour but the audio guide is all you need - and your imagination. Enjoy! We did!!
