Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Oxford Custom Day Trip

London, United Kingdom

Experience three of England’s trophy sights on this full-day trip to Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Oxford from London. Travel by air-conditioned coach to Windsor to gaze at magnificent Windsor Castle and, if you wish, buy an entrance ticket from your guide to tour its awesome interior. Then, head for Stonehenge to marvel at this UNESCO World Heritage site, again choosing to explore independently or to buy an entrance ticket for an in-depth, audio-guided tour. Last but not least, admire the honey-stoned gems of beautiful Oxford on an included walking tour. Upgrade to include entrance fees, or enjoy the flexibility of deciding on the day which attractions you'd like to visit.

Leave London on your air-conditioned coach and travel west to Windsor, the home of Windsor Castle, an official residence of Queen Elizabeth II. Extending over 13 acres (five hectares), this imposing castle houses lavish State Apartments, Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and magnificent St George’s Chapel, the burial place of King Henry VIII.
On arrival, show your pre-booked ticket or pay your entrance fee (depending on the option selected), and head inside to view the State Apartments, St George’s Chapel and other highlights, all brought to life by audio guide commentary. The display of British pageantry that is the Changing of the Guard takes place in the Castle precincts on an almost daily basis, so you may catch this colorful morning ceremony if your tour takes place on one of the days it occurs and if you have purchased an entrance ticket to the Castle.
Alternatively, use your time to explore the town of Windsor and stroll around its quaint streets. You may also see the New or Old Guard of soldiers marching to the Castle if your tour coincides with a Changing of the Guard ceremony. Usually accompanied by a military band, the Guards march through central Windsor in their bright red tunics and bearskin helmets, making an impressive sight.
After around two hours in Windsor, head for Stonehenge. This UNESCO-listed stone circle rears dramatically from Salisbury Plain and is cloaked in mystery. Perhaps purchase an entrance ticket from your guide and take an audio-guided tour that delves into the stones’ spiritual importance and their associations with figures such as King Arthur and Merlin. Or view Stonehenge independently from outside and ponder its mysteries yourself as you take photos of this incredible prehistoric monument.
Later, continue to Oxford. Home to Britain’s oldest university, the colleges of this honey-stoned town inspired scholars such as Lewis Carroll and J R R Tolkien. Take an included walking tour to admire Christchurch College, the Bodleian Library and Sheldonian Theatre as you listen to your guide’s crystal-clear commentary on your Vox headphones.
Afterward, return to London where your tour ends with a drop-off at Victoria coach station.

Fast-paced tour! We felt rushed at every stop. We did see Queen Elizabeth's green Land Rover parked at Windsor Castle's courtyard though, but didn't see her majesty. It was pouring when we arrived at Stonehenge so we couldn't really see the site other than from the bus. Oxford was just okay, mostly because it was a quick stop. I'd been there before but it was my daughter's first time there. She didn't enjoy it either--she found it a bit too boring. To me the highlight of the trip would have been Stonehenge but then again, we couldn't see any of it due to the storm. I guess you can't blame mother nature for doing its job, right? Windsor Castle ended up being the best part of the tour although we were caught on a awful and I mean awful traffic jam on our was back to the point that the bus driver had to take a different route through the back roads, which made it even worse. By the time we got back to our hotel, we were just wiped out. Oh, by the way, the guide kept warning us about the time limits on each stop but many people seemed to heed the message. As a result, the number of people on this tour kept dwindling as time went on. Bottom line, if the guide tell you that you have to be on the bus by certain time, make sure you synchronize your watch or something but don't miss the deadlines if you want to finish the tour on the same bus. I actually appreciated that since I've been to tours where people kept missing the deadlines, only to affect other people's times and experiences.

Windsor and Stonehenge were great. By the time we got to Oxford it was rather dark and hard to see things. Probably would have done without that part.

Our guide Andy Jackson did a great job. With traffic and travel, there is not a lot of time for each location, but Andy and Mick were very efficient and we got about 90 minutes at each site, which is probably all you could hope for on a single day trip. Andy is very knowledgeable.

Super intelligent tour guide who was friendly and very sweet. The tour was a bit fast-paced, but necessary to see all the sights in one day. It was a good mix of walking with the tour guide and free time to explore on your own.

This Evan Evans tour was spectacular, beginning to end. En route, our tour guide pointed out historical landmarks and the homes of famous Brits in literature and theater. She shared insights throughout--in English and Japanese, to the delight of the Japanese visitors on board. I could listen to her speak all day. Her cadence, her wit and her brilliance reminded me of a great professor. I wish I could remember her name but I doubt that the company has a lot of guides who speak Japanese.

Overall, a wonderful experience, with alot of stories along the way. The trip was very timely, and the buses left exactly at 8am, so make sure you're there on time!_br/_ Our guide Patty was very informative, had alot of stories and very knowledgeable of the history. She went above and beyond to make sure we're all comfortable along the way, making sure our information box worked well before we needed to use it. The only area for improvement, would be to give more precise directions for returns to the bus as a couple of us had to ask for directions at the first stop at Winsor.

We greatly enjoyed this tour that took us all over the English countryside! Be prepared for a long day 11 hours and a lot of driving 45 mins from London to Windsor, 1.5 hours from Windsor to Stonehenge, 1.5 hours from Stonehenge to Oxford, 1.5-2 hours from Oxford to London. However, we didn't mind the driving, as the variety of sites that the tour visited made the journeys worth it, and the bus was clean and comfortable.

A unique insight into History and the Royal Family. Windsor is blend of old and new, the history of the Royal family and the Castle, coupled with the new since they still use it and were in residence while we were there touring the castle. Stonehenge is close to 5000 years old and the tour provides a peak into history and the archaeologists views on prehistoric man and how the stones were arranged and the meaning behind the sight. Oxford, as a town has such unique architecture, showing the years as the colleges have grown and evolved in the last 1,000 years...Tour guide Patricia provided great insights for all 3 sights...be prepared for long bus rides and a 10 hour day.

It was a great tour. The only thing that was less was the long queue at Windsor Castle due to extra control but the whole experience was good and the guide gave us extra time so we were able to see everything we wanted to. The experience of Stonehenge was good we had a great audio tour. In Oxford it was our guide that told us everything and she as really great. Overall a great experience.

Three venues and the associated drive time makes for a long day. I would suggest two of the three venues would be better by allowing more time at two sites and less time in the bus. Our travel group of three all rated Stonehenge our 1,Windsor Castle 2, and Oxford 3. Unfortunately, we didnt have enough time to visit the information center while at Stonehenge.

We really enjoyed this day trip. We did not feel rushed as this is a highlights tour and had adaquate time to view the highlights of each place. Overall we had a great time and were very impressed. If you only have one day to visit this is a great trip to see a lot in a short amount of time.

Informative and efficiently run highlight tour of 3 iconic British locations. Tour covers a lot of ground so should not expect to see everything. Emily and Paul were great guide and driver combination. Range on the audio system was weak. It was difficult to manage and maintain connection between guide and large group walking cross long blocks. Boarding at Victoria Coach Station is a bit chaotic.

I highly recommend this tour. The company is very serious, and the tour guide was completely nice and funny too. We got to see all of these amazing places in one day, and even had some free time to visit stores and restaurants.

This is a sperfect one day tour to see the most famous sights around London. We had a great bus driver and a guide, Deborah who was really nice and flexible. Though we had a terrible weather they managed to show us everything in. _br/_ We also had our 12 year-old son with us, who doesn't speak English well and he also enjoyed the tour. _br/_ I can suggest the company ant the tour for those who wants to see more around London in a short time and want to travel in comfort.

Guide was awesome, we learned a lot about the areas we visited. Tour times were reasonable. Make sure you are at the meet up location on time! They are very strict on that and will leave. Overall great experience and would go again.

This was a tough tour to review. The tour group, Evan Evans, are polite and professional. Much of my experience is outside of the control of the tour company, but these are things I wish I had known prior to booking. Would I have done the tour anyway? Probably, but would have been better prepared.

Although Kevin was very knowledgeable and personable, by the time we arrived in Oxford it was late and getting dark. Adding to this, we only toured the outside of buildings. Windsor was a disappointment only because the Queen and family were in residence celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary which meant the State apartment was closed to the public. Of course that is the chance you take... Stonehenge is awe inspiring! Kelvins dinner recommendation was delish!

Review by:   Dinar R,    January 2018 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Actually I was enjoy my first vacation to United Kingdom, and found this tour such a good value, while the price was not included the entrance ticket to all of destination and we should pay another amount. I was pay with my credit card, and just realized that the amount was not the same with earlier information, I was upset found Viatour did such thing, but what can I do? The tour was also not my expectation that the tour guide was not very helpful at all, she only give a long long explanation in details without give us any change to take a picture or even enjoy the tour, she advise us to walking through in a rush and did not care that some of us might be tired or can not follow the group. I prefer to free and easy tour and enjoy every moment from the every spot instead of just follow the talkative tour guide. it was very useless.

We went on a cold, wet, windy day so odds were set for misery. Guide was great. He was very interesting, informative and attentive on the bus. He got us into Windsor Castle as fast as possible then handed us off to be on our own inside plenty of guides inside - don't think outside guides allowed to give tour inside. Thought Windsor was interesting. Next time, think I'd probably just take a train in myself and leave when I wanted. We spent about 2 hours there and really that might have been enough to get the main idea but not see every nook and cranny. Bus was warm and dry. : Stonehenge was miserably cold and my second time to see it so as soon as I got off the bus, I turned around and went for a cup of tea. It was nice to see the first time in 2014 for me, as I'm sure it was 1000 years ago and will be 1000 years from now. Maybe on a warmer day, I'd feel inclined to see it again maybe. Oxford tour was more with the guide. I made the mistake of breaking off from group to shop. Shops were same old souvenirs - really wish I stayed with the guide as he was so interesting. Subtracting a star as tour was okay but not fantastic, subtracted another star because weather was rotten and makes me grouchy just thinking about it, added as star back due to very good guide. Don't know his name, sorry.

This was a really great tour. They packed a lot into a day trip. The bus was comfortable and had wifi. They kept to the schedule and provided useful tools to educate the participants about the three sites. My only issue with the tour was we did not get to enter any of the historic buildings at Oxford. They said the students were doing exams.

Excellent. Well organized. I had a great tour guide who was very friendly and funny. You had plenty of time in Windsor and Stonehedge. I wish I had more than an hour in Oxford, but all in all, it was a fantastic day.

This is not a guided tour! Tour guide from Evan Evans tour just left us on our own to wonder around, didn’t even go to the Oxford Uni guided tour. We didn’t even touch the grounds of the Uni, she just left us at one of the walkway to wander around ourselves. Please don’t even take this tour at all!

This tour doesn’t even deserve a 0. It was really horrible! The tour guide left us because we had kids and don’t wait for us. She just went on with the others and we had to find our way to the castle and when we asked her she was Super rude, refused to apologise and it wasn’t a guided tour at all!

Our guide, David is very informative and humorous!! This tour is perfect for those who want to see a lot of things in a short day! Too bad the sky gets dark very early at the end of the year, I was hoping to take a good look at the Oxford town in daylight.

Thus is a must do/must see tour! We had done it before with the visit to Bath, but visiting Oxford with our tour guide just added extra to seeing the Windsor Castle and the extraordinary Stonehenge for the second time.

Well organized tour. It left on time from Victoria Couch station. Kevin, our guide was great. We did feel rushed at each place, particularly Stonehenge and Oxford. I would have preferred a day that was Stonehenge and either one of the other two.

Windsor Castle took my breath way with how huge and magnificent it was. It was my favorite thing I saw in England. The artwork and the dollhouse inside were really cool to see. They had changing of the guards ceremony while we were there, they played a little bit of music, and I went inside St George's Chapel where Henry VIII was buried. Stonehenge was also very cool to see. During this trip you are seeing a lot but I also think the amount of time spent at Windsor Castle and Stonehenge was just enough time, not too short. This tour made my trip! Tip regarding lunch: you only have a time to grab something quick at a café at Windsor. I would recommend to bring something with you if you can so you don't have to worry about stopping for food later and you can spend more time sightseeing.

We enjoyed the trip very much, the tour guide did a great job warning everyone in advance not to be late so we can have enough time for our activities including 3 different places. A minor confusion for a lot of people at the Victoria Coach Station is there were 3 different Evan and Evans' tours gathering at the same gate at the same time with similar combination of destinations and people don't know which tour guide they should follow. If you could add a clear Tour Number on the print-out tickets that should help.

This was an excellent tour that I would highly recommend. Sheila was our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and provided us with great insights. We would have loved to have spent more time at both Windsor Castle and Oxford. Although Stonehenge was nice to see I believe a tour for both Windsor Castle and Oxford combined would be well received and would involve less time on the bus

Great day, plenty of time at each venue to explore and enjoy the local ambiance. Katia was a fantastic tour guide very knowledgeable about each destination before we arrivived also at the destination. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone who wants to see as much as possible in one day without feeling rushed. The coach was very comfortable and our driver was very competent. So happy we did this.

Too long for this time of the year. We saw Oxford in the dark. Windsor Castle security took forever to get through but it was well worth seeing. Stonehenge site has changed significantly over the last twenty years.

The tour was excellent. We had access to WiFi, we had opportunities to see the sights then charge our cell phones in the bus. I was able to take relaxing naps in between visiting destinations. The tour guide, Paul, was bilingual and very informative. It was worth every penny. I found myself laughing a lot during the trip because of the witty humor of the British. I would highly recommend this trip to someone who is limited in their time in England but wants to see multiple destinations. I would have like to spend more time in Oxford. There is so much to see there, and we only had 90 minutes.

Do not miss Windsor and Stonehenge! We enjoyed Oxford, but it wasn't as much a wow for us as the other two spots. Also, do not be late returning to the group. One couple must have gotten lost in Oxford and we waited for them for 20 minutes, but eventually had to leave. It was impossible to know where they might be in the whole of Oxford. Hope they made it back okay. The guide was good, but we did not realize it was a bilingual tour, so everything she said she then had to explain in Japanese as well. That was fine and we got used to it, but it did seem to keep her feeling rushed in a few spots. Overall, great experience and fun day.

The trip is worth going on if you want to see 3 sites in one day. However, you are on the bus more then off the bus! Each stop takes at least 1 1/2 hours to get to and you only have about 1 1/2 once there to walk around. There is no bathroom on the bus and you should bring your own food to save time. Hint, you can choose the tour without the entrance fees and then buy them yourselves if you want to go into Windsor Castlea must see and same price and Stonehengedon't pay the extra entrance fee as you can walk up to the rocks yourselves if you walk fast and you can view the rocks from only a few feet away from the paying customers. Oxford is a great town and the guide walks you through it but you really need more time there to see everything. Also, there is a lot of walking on this tour and no wheel chair accessible ways to get to some of the places.
