Windsor Castle Tour from London with Lunch

London, United Kingdom

Follow the footsteps of British royalty with a tour of Windsor Castle, just over an hour’s drive from London. Your half-day trip gives you an inside look at the many areas of Windsor Castle, home to Queen Elizabeth II, including St George’s Chapel and the sumptuous State Apartments. Finish back in London with a quintessential English lunch at the Tea Clipper in Knightsbridge.

After pickup from a central London meeting point, you’ll be off to Windsor Castle, where more than 900 years of royal history awaits! From William the Conqueror all the way through to the current Queen, successive monarchs have lived here and left their mark on what is now one of the largest continuously occupied castles in the world. Tour Windsor Castle independently, taking time to see St George’s Chapel and the formal State Apartments in all their lavish glory.

Windsor itself is a pretty town full of traditional shops and historic pubs. It was in one of these pubs that Shakespeare was said to have written his play The Merry Widows of Windsor.

After spending your morning in Windsor, enjoy your journey back through the English countryside on a comfortable, air-conditioned coach. Your tour ends in Knightsbridge (central London), at the cozy Tea Clipper pub, situated right next to the famous department store Harrods, where you can enjoy a traditional fish and chips lunch.

Please note: Lunch may be taken at alternative venues in Central London

Windsor is lovely - premier tours was a disorganized mess. We were dropped at Windsor on time so far so good. We were to be picked up at 1230 by a different coach. After standing at a crowded bus lot for 35 minutes the driver showed up and said 1pm was the correct pick up time. We waited 35 minutes in a lot when we could have been enjoying Windsor! While traveling back to London our driver pulled over and said he had driven 4 hours which was the limit and we needed to wait for a replacement driver. Why premier sent a driver who couldn’t get us back to London is beyond me. The first driver said it would be about an hour before we got back (wait time for the replacement driver plus traffic). We bought a morning tour with a pub lunch but nearly everyone decided to leave the bus and take the tube or taxi onto another destination rather than wait around. I would recommend seeing Windsor but use a different tour company!

This was one of the best trips we took. There was another trip going on to other locations, but we chose this option which gave us enough time to enjoy the tour without rushing. There were no photographs allowed inside the buildings, which was strictly enforced by the staff. The gift shop, however, had a tourist booklet for 5p that was affordable and captured the best of the interior. We saw the changing of the guard here too, which was interesting to watch. The coach picked us up and returned us to London for lunch. The fish and chip meal was excellent as well as the service.

This was a great way to see Windsor Castle. The guide gave us a history lesson on the one hour ride to Windsor. Our group consisted of two tour groups: a half day trip to Windsor with a pub lunch and a full day trip that left Windsor for Bath and elsewhere. We were with the half day tour and were told to meet our new bus a specific time. Felt a bit like we were left on our own and the new bus was 45 minutes late due to traffic. It was a bit of an abandoned feeling. Windsor Castle was amazing and full of history. The time allotted was plenty to of time to see the castle, the chapel, and the grounds, but not enough time if you wish to explore the quaint little town and the shopping available in the town. But if your interest is solely in the castle, you will have plenty of time. Lunch at the pub was fish and chips and very enjoyable.

Great Tour! Windsor was a wonderful town, we had tea but could have stayed there for lunch. The guide from London was excellent! Fun, knowledgeable and completely professional. We did the half day tour and the driver who took us back from London was personable and very accommodating - dropped us off at the pub for lunch. Lunch was delightful. It was a great family outing - and the pace gave everyone time to see what they wanted. Thank you!!

Good tour...........lots of history..........did not go to the place for lunch that was told. You could only have fish and chips and that's what we had the day before.

It was extremely crowded with long entry lines. The castle was interesting but since the Queen was in residence we were unable to see everything normally included. The lunch was decent with very friendly service. We visited the end of June so maybe we just picked the wrong time to visit.

Tour was very good and tour guide Nick exceptional in his knowledge. My only criticism is that I had booked the tour with hotel pick up and when my hotel phoned Premium to check the pick up time we were advised they no longer do hotel pick ups. No one from Viator had informed me of this although they kept sending emails reminding me to print my voucher. I could still be standing outside my hotel if I hadn't checked the day before. We had to get to Victoria coach station to get on the tour bus.

We greatly enjoyed our tour to Windsor Castle and the lunch back in London. Our guide was very funny and made it very clear where and when we should meet the bus. He suggested doing the state rooms first and that was a great plan. We ran out of time to do everything but we were quite pleased with the day. It was definitely a highlight of our trip.

Great way to see Windsor Castle for the first time. Having the transportation provided meant we didn't have to worry about how to get there or getting lost. Once there, we did have to wait in line to get in. On the down side, there wasn't much time at the castle to look around but we did get to catch the changing of the guards. The town has lots of shopping opportunities, but again, time was limited. Lunch I would totally pass on - service was horrible and quality average. The three star rating is due to time constraints and lunch.

If you just take this tour, the time viewing the castle is great. We were put on the bus with others taking this tour and on to Bath and Stonehedge. Later they sent a passenger van to pick us back up. The guide took us directly to the entrance of Windsor and obtained the tickets for us to get in. I personally thought that was very helpful. The return to London driver dropped us off, at least two blocks from the lunch venue at St. George's Tavern near Victoria Underground. The only option for lunch was fish and chips. Its a good thing, I like fish. The other traveler didn't like fish, so she only ate the chips. I also believe that a drink price should have been added.

This was a great tour. Our guide Lucy made our one hour coach ride feel brief with her colorful commentary and history of London buildings on the way out of town as well as history of the Royal family as we drew nearer to Windsor. We were first in line when the castle gates opened at 9:45 which meant we didn't have to wait long and had plenty of time to see the castle. Once inside, you are on your own to explore without the guide but there are plenty of staff and docents around if you have any questions. On this day, Lucy was doing a full day tour Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath so most of the group had to be back at the coach by 11:15 but those of us on the half day were able to explore the castle until 12:30 before heading back to the coach lot. The town of Windsor itself is so cute and quaint, I wish I had had more time to explore before heading back... will definitely need to plan a full day there next time. After returning to the coach lot, our driver David took those of us that were on the half day tour back to London where he dropped us at St. George's Tavern for lunch. The tour includes a voucher for lunch and you can order anything off the menu, but I choose a traditional fish and chips which was delicious. Overall a great experience that I would recommend to anyone

Loved Windsor Castle and town. Given lunch ticket but never explained where restaurant was or when we would get there it was back in London. Thought we'd be in Harrod's area which is what description of tour said but we ended up back at Victoria Station which is the bus hub. Just not what was advertised.

First. The tour guide was super unorganized and appeared bothered by questions. Worst guide we've ever had. We were not told lunch was in London and not Windsor. I didn't remember from the 6 months ago I booked it. The lunch in London was limited to fish n chips and did not include a drink. And by the time you get there it's about 2 pm so a bit past noon. The Windsor castle tour was rushed to make it back to the pick up point on time. I would do this tour again.

We had a little bit of trouble figuring out where to go for this one. Turns out the half day tour was tagged onto a full day tour. So we kept looking for just a windsor castle bus from Victoria coach station and we were in full panic mode thinking we had missed it. We asked a lot of the workers at the coach station and no one would explain much to us - so we finally just called the number on the back of the voucher and the tour company explained things to us better. The tour itself was great. We loved Windsor Castle! The lunch afterwards was all right - I probably could have done without it.

tour of the castle was good. .... the food was terrible. After the tour we were just dropped off at the lunch venue... had to find it ourselves and were given incorrect instructions.... greasy fish and chips......had to struggle to get a table.it was like the venue was not expecting us......we actually thought we may have walked into the wrong pub.

We were herded like cattle at Victoria Coach Center. Everything was very disorganized. There was too little time allowed in Windsor. We were put on a filthy minibus for our trip back to London for the worst meal in London. It was a bad experience overall.

Was ok.Was told to get to meeting place at 6.50am and wait at the reception but nobody came and I ended up going out on the street and asking a bus driver who had been parked for 20 minutes if he was waiting for me...he was. Also big rush when we got there. Felt sorry for those who weren't 100% fit.

The tour itself was pretty good. But meeting up with the bus in the morning was very confusing. The lunch at the pub was pretty standard- could've skipped that. Previous reviewers had mentioned a lunch at Harrods, but that's definitely not what we received. It's worth the experience to see windsor.

The castle was awesome and the town of Windsor was so quaint. A few complaints though. The bus station where we were picked up was very confusing. The trip started 45 minutes late which was a bummer. Our guide was very knowledgeable, however he rushed us so much and we were not able to enjoy all the rooms of the castle. Because we were so rushed, we had an hour and a half to kill doing nothing before our ride picked us up. A little disappointed.

The tour at Windsor Castle was great. The Doll House is a must-see. However, I did not enjoy the lunch. The Fish and Chips at the Tower of London was much better. I would do the Windsor Tour again minus the lunch.

Loved windsor castle. tour guide was interesting. Lunch was at a pub in London which was good, however only gave us $15 total towards our lunch bill for two. I guess the lunch voucher is only worth $7.50 per person and nothing on the menu in that price range. we could have gotten fish and chips.....This trip might be better if you took the tube to windsor. you could spend more time in town.

We had a great time. Being able to visit the State Rooms in Windsor Castle was informative and an eye-opener. Viewing St.George's Chapel brought back memories of a visit in 1981 and also what I had forgotten. Good tour guide and nice to finish with a Fish and Chip lunch at the Tattersalls Inn.

the begining of this tour started out shocking, the day before this tour i rang the tour operator and he said to be in the foyer of our hotel at 7.40am which we arrived at and the person that greeted us was rude and arrogant and told us we were late which i took offence to and later on the bus he said to everyone on board it was like rounding up stray cats and that the only good tourist was a dead one.we spoke to some americans on the bus and they said he was the same with them.after we transfered to our tour bus things changed dramatically and the tour was the best on our european tour, exceptional

The guide and bus were fine but nothing I couldn't have done on my own. Ways to improve the experience:_br/_ - The show time at the bus station is chaos and a zoo. A mass of humanity in a shoe box. A few posters/signs/employees wearing a hat that has the tour company etc. would be extremely helpful._br/_ - The tour included lunch. It was extremely average. the pub was nice but the give away was the EXACT (in every font, color and picture) same menu as a different pub across town. Clearly its a chain. If you want to set yourself apart go with a truly local owned pub with their own food.

The Windsor Castle Tour was great. Our Tour guide kept us moving so we could see most everything in the castle and the church in the short amount of time allotted to us. Could have spent all day exploring the site. Our tour guide David kept us amused with his British dry sense of humor and his exaggerations and falsehoods. Overall he kept us entertained. The lunch stop after the tour was good.

Well organised tour. Buses were very comfortable and the tour guide very personable and informative. Venue was great. The only draw back was the lunch. Fish and chips - thought they would be awesome being in England. Chips were OK but the fish was awful. Very different fish served with the tour tickets than what you would order in the restaurant. Would recommend the tour - skip the lunch!!
