Eiger and Jungfrau Panorama Day Trip from Lucerne

Lucerne, Switzerland

For the best Alpine views in Switzerland, don't miss the opportunity to take a day trip from Lucerne to ride the rack railway for magnificent panoramic vistas of Mts. Eiger, Monch and the Jungfrau.

This full-day excursion from Lucerne starts with a comfortable ride in a modern deluxe coach through Switzerland's scenic countryside to the enchanting Alpine world of the Bernese Oberland.

After a short interlude in Interlaken you'll travel to Lauterbrunnen. Here you'll board the Wengernalp rack railway for a 45-minute trip through idyllic Alpine meadows and forests to the little village of Wengen, and then further on up to Kleine Scheidegg (6,762 feet, 2,061 meters). Bring your camera, as the panoramic mountain views of Mts. Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau from here are magnificent. The imposing Eiger North Face is within touching distance!

You'll have free time for lunch, to relax or do some hiking on the well-signed hiking trails for all levels of competence. The unaccompanied trip back down to the valley follows the north-west slopes of the Eiger to the famous resort of Grindelwald. (During the winter season the tour is fully guided, including the down-hill train ride to Grindelwald.) You'll return to Lucerne at approximately 7pm.

I am giving this tour 1 star because there is no option for zero stars and the scenery was fantastic. However, our tour guide was rude and obnoxious - he told one person Lady, you are talking now and not listening and I will not repeat this again and told me I was not paying attention when I asked for clarification on the group meeting point. Finally, I was in a group of 5 and he insisted we all sit together, even though one of our group members wanted to sit closer to the front of the bus. While our guide spoke English, it was heavily accented and very very very very difficult - in fact nearly impossible - to understand. Also, we were dropped off in a different place from where we were picked up and not given correct directions to return to the original pick up spot by our guide. I am extremely disappointed in the tour, our guide, and with Viator. I have taken other tours in the past and been very satisfied.

We were met near the Central Station in Lucerne by our skilled driver and knowledgeable guide and driven to Interlachen a lovely town on route to the mountain..On arrival to our destination we could not put our cameras down.Breathtakingly beautiful views were seen from Eiger after ascending the mountain by train.A must.if you visit the Lucerne area.

Sin duda volveria hacerlo._br/_ One of the most exciting tour and tour guide , KID is his name, one I won't forget, he was so helpful, and so kind with all of us , Kid took this tour to the next level of professionalism, he personalized it , as one of us. We are adults but he really cared. I would recommend Kid highly.

It was a wonderful trip. We stopped at Lauterbruanen, Wengen, and Klein Schidegg. In the little town of Lauterbruanen, we saw beautiful Staubbach Falls. in Wengen, we asked a local where to see an awesome view. He told us to go to a church nearby. We saw an entire valley and snow capped mountain ranges. In Klein Scheudegg, we had a cup of coffee and admire Eiger and Jungfrau. We were not dropped from bus at the same place we started, so were lost going back to our hotel in Lucerne. We should have been notified in advance, then we could have prepared. Otherwise, it was a beautiful weather and we had a traffic day.

Well organised with a very enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide. We selected the option not to go to the top but rather enjoy the views of the mountains rather than from them. So we were left on own for the next 4-5 hours which were blissful. Probably the best 4-5 hours ever on holiday. Breathtaking doesn't cover it. We hiked up to the base of the Eiger's north face and were nearly able to touch it. Utterly, utterly marvellous!

Just do it!! Make sure it is to the summit and not just the Panorama 'view' - I had to pay Euro 83 per head after starting the trip, but it was well worth the money!

The trip up to the best view is not included in this price and is very expensive. I felt a little silly for not having understood that before going. The tour guide gave me the option to pay (160 euros or something) to go up with the group or to take the train to the next town by myself and meet up with them later. I chose not to pay the extra. The sights are beautiful regardless and I did not regret my decision.

The best tour ever! You must pay the extra 160 Euro to go to the top to get the best view in the world._br/_ The tour guide will direct you to an ATM in Interlaken. My tour guide named Kid was outstanding in his knowledge and HUMOR.

We enjoyed the tour itself, however the tour guide was AWFUL! Very unprofessional, had no patience. It was at one point he actually lost control and started screaming. The tour itself was a good value, however The guide was so problematic and unprofessional that I would think twice before booking with Viator again._br/_ By the way - I am a world traveler with many tour groups. This was not by any means a "first time travel experience" for me.

The Panoramic day trip was simply out of the world. The Eiger, Monche and Jungfrau covered in snow and the beautiful scenery was breathtaking. The train rides were excellent as we could see the mountains at such a close range. Interlaken and Grindelwald were beautiful. Our tour guide named Kid was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting.

This trip actually left from Zurich so by the time it got to Lucerne the bus was almost full and we took the last seats together..other people had to separate. The trip took us to Interlaken, Winteregg and then to Kleine Scheidegg, where according to the tour description we then stopped and you could go hiking etc. Everyone else on the trip had paid more for an additional part of a trip to Jungfraujoch- where you went on a train ride through a 16 mile tunnel built through the mountain.Luckily we had the most fantastic guide Kiet (he gets 5 stars) who told us about this before we got to Interlaken where we found an ATM to take out extra money to pay for the additional part. It made the trip rather expensive but the trip through the tunnel and arriving at the snow covered Jungfraubahn complex which was really amazing. If we had got off where we had originally paid for we could have done nothing. It was snowing and you could hardly see 8 feet in front of you, so not good hiking weather. We would also have missed out on what was a trully amazing adventure. Our guide was fantastic... he knew every bend in the road /train track and would call out ..."good photo on left/right in 1minute/2,3 minute" Also he went through the train taking people's camera's and taking photos of them against an amazing backdrop. Kiet made the trip.

Jungfrau trip was very good except that the guide charged us Euro 177 more. He said that our tickets (given by you) are not for Jungfrau but till middle of the tour, which was embarassing.

During the trip the guide tried to pressure us into an upgrade for $100 per person. When we returned, we were not let off the bus at the pickup point Train station info both. Instead we were exited 5 blocks away but told the train station was around the corner. Had to seek instructions from a local bar. Don't let them do this to you

The scenery on this trip was stunning and the trip is worth it simply for that. All other aspects of the "tour" left much to be desired. The guide was not a local and spoke so quickly such that you couldn't understand what he was saying most of the time. The Interlaken stop should be left off the tour as it consists of 20 minutes of walking down a strip of tourist trap shops. The bus was uncomfortable simply because they put way too many people on it for comfort. I think they must have packed at least 100 people on it. My companion and I opted not to pay extra to go to Jungfraujoch to save some money. I still found the scenery to be breathtaking and don't regret that decision though I'm sure the top would also have been spectacular. At one point the guide basically pushed us off the train for a 30 minute stop at Wengen since we decided not to journey up to the top. When I tried to explain that we didn't want to get off here and would rather spend all of our time at the next stop up at Kleine Scheindegg, he said there was nothing up there (i.e., no tourist shops) and we would have too much time up there. However, he just didn't understand that we were there to get out in nature and not spend our time looking for trinkets in the shops. I was highly irritated by this, but was happy that it meant we didn't have to deal with the guide and the rest of the 100+ group. If you don't mind the higher cost, I would recommend doing this trip on your own.

This excellent trip is highly recommended. Our tour guide was an expert on the area and was concerned for our comfort especially when all members of our group decided to pay the supplement and head to the Top of Europe. We were hoping for good weather to view the massive glacier but experienced a blizzard instead much to the delight of visitors from sunny countries. The valley is absolutely beautiful and the views stunning... don't miss it!!

This was a birthday present to myself. It was well worth the money although we paid the extra to go right up to the top.

The scenery of this trip was beautiful, however, the execution of the trip by the tour personnel was not good. The scenery was great however, and we enjoyed walking around the little towns and using the rack railway. It would have been nice to have a better description of what each town had to offer so we could plan a bit better about where to spend time.

The stopover in Interlaken is too short - only 20 minutes. Hardly any time to look around the village. Other than this, the rest of the journey is enjoyable. The tour guide did a great job.
