Private Tour: Luxor West Bank, Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple

Luxor, Egypt

Tour the most famous sites on Luxor's West Bank in the company of an expert private guide. You'll step back into Egypt's ancient history at the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple on this private morning tour from Luxor. As this is a private tour, you can determine the amount of time you'd like to spend at each site.

Crossing the Nile River to the West Bank, you'll visit the necropolis of the ancient city of Thebes. Arriving at the Valley of the Kings, burial place of the kings of Thebes (ancient Luxor), you will have a brief stop at the visitors center. Guides are not permitted inside the tombs, but your guide will tell you what to look for inside the elaborately decorated rooms. If you wish to visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun, an additional cost is payable direct.

Leaving the hot sands of the Valley of the Kings, you will visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most striking monuments in Egypt. Your guide will introduce you to the history of the temple and the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the famous female ruler of Egypt who posed as a male to gain the throne. There is free time to explore at your leisure as you wander the large courtyards and admire the intricate hieroglyphic decorations.

Returning to Luxor there will be time for a brief photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, which mark the site of the funerary temple of Amenhotep III. These two giant statues standing tall and proud on the West Bank are all that remain of the ancient complex.

In addition you will have the chance to visit an alabaster factory and purchase genuine items if you wish.

Mike and his driver picked me up from the hotel on time we drove the 40 mins to the Valley then past a few more sights and Hatshepsut temple then dropped of back at the hotel. I enjoyed the guided tour thank you._br/_ P.S PRE WARNING WHEN YOU ARE DOWN THE TOMBS IN THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS THE STAFF ARE PUSHEY FOR TIPS I NOTICED THEM BLOCKING IN TOURISTS DEMANDING MONEY BECAUSE THEY HAD SAID HELLO OR POINTED AT SOMETHING ON THE WALL.

I never felt rushed and all of my questions were answered. Our guide was phenomenal and pointed out subtle but important things all day. Each one of these sites was incredible. Very few tourists at this time made for a VERY private experience. Can't wait to take this tour or another one like it when I return to Egypt. I highly recommend this tour!

Loved it! Our tour guide Yolanda arrived early and we were off to see Luxor. Yolanda was very knowledgeable and answered our questions about the area, the locals and religion without hesitation. We were also able to cover more of the area by having a private tour guide and driver. As a photographer, I appreciated being about to pull off to the side of the road for photographs. Overall, my wife and received good value by hiring a private guide like Yolanda. We'll contact her again when we return to Egypt!

An amazing experience, walking around Valley of the Kings, seeing the mummy of Tutankhamun and his tomb, as well as 3 other tombs. We all know the stories from the first days of world history class, and now finally being able to see it first hand is just amazing. Hatshepsut temple is also very nice, with part of it carved into the mountainside like Petra in Jordan. Again, it was a pleasure to be there with very few other people. Now is the time to go before the crowds come back!

We had a few problems that left us with a very stressful experience. First of all, at the time of booking we had requested the tour to be at 10:00AM. Even tough you request it, it does not seem to matter. The following are the list of problems we had:

Valley of the Kings was everything I always dreamed of seeing. The artwork is simply amazing. Just being in a place that has existed for so many millennia is awe-inspiring. I was a little disappointed in Hatshepsut's Temple, probably just because of seeing Valley of the Kings first. The Colossi of Memnon I could have missed. Our tour guide, Youla, was fantastic--very knowledgeable and personable.

My tour was about average. The guide was knowledgable, but it seemed like I had to ask the questions. She did do a good job of describing the interior of the tombs before I went in. And I never felt rushed at any time. I must say that I was put off by the hard-sell sales tactics of the alabaster shop that we visited. I know most tours have this sort of thing. But the last thing I want to do on vacation is walk into a showroom and be hammered like I'm buying a car or something. Overall, this is a good way to see the tombs without getting scammed too hard. Recommended.

Yula was so knowledgable - wonderful personality, personable and really fun. The sights were awesome and Tony was a fantastic driver. I learned so much about the history and modern lives of Egyptians. The history came alive.

The tour was great. However, I will never again go on another private tour. I really felt like we were lead to the slaughter often as a tourist. We would go visit the places on our tour and then we would be led to a place that they had partnered with and be pressured to buy things. It was awful.

Michael was great-- he was really knowledgeable about the history and geography of the area, and we got into some really wonderful political discussions. He is friendly, interesting, and his English is extremely good. I think the only downpoint of the trip was that instead of being able to add going to another temple, we had to go to an alabaster factory. Given that people will try to sell you stuff all over Egypt, it's not really my preference to have to sit through even more hawking of goods when I am trying to sightsee.

Spectacular tour. We were extremely fortunate to have Adel as a guide for our two days in Luxor. His knowledge and special insight on things to focus on, especially in the tombs within the Valley of the Kings was fantastic.

Fascinating tour and high recommended! The guide (Youla) had lived in Luxor all her life and was extremely knowledgeable about the sites as well as life in Luxor. I had a great time and would have no hesitation to recommend this tour or Youla.

Our guide was extremely knowledgable on all aspects of our tour, answering all questions throughly. Myself and my partner were throughouly pleased to have met our guide following several days of poor tours with other guides. She ensured we saw everything we payed for to a high level and was very friendly and helpful. The tour itself was amazing, definitely worth doing, don't book through travel agents as it is more expensive, this Viator trip was personal and catered for your specific wants and needs. We would definitely use again through Viator - exceptional knowledge and very friendly.

Our tour was awesome, we were picked up on time and the tour was provided professionally. Lunch with the tour was excellent and a good time to take a rest. I did not feel pressured to take another tour and thought the price was worth a stress free trip.

Our guide was terrific! The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is because I wish that he had done something to deter all the touts. He left us on our own and when he was with us, he didn't speak to them either. He was extremely knowledgeable and we will certainly return to Egypt and us Viatours! Aloha, Pam

I think the sites are beautifull and interesting but you need a guide that is proactive. Unfortunatelly mine wasn't and i'm sure it could have been better.

Stunning! Our guide, Dina, was wonderful. She knew what she was talking about and explained it in a way that we understood. Dina was brilliant by far the best guide we had (that is saying something as Nana in Cairo was pretty good too).

Review by:   Michael B,    January 2011 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
The Valley of the Kings was interesting, but not as "big" as we expected. The tombs were rather small and very stuffy. Tutankhamen's tomb is not really worth the extra charge. It was more interesting to see everything excavated from the tomb at the Cairo Museum. Hatshepsut's Temple was neat and had a beautiful view of the Nile. Our tour guide was very irritable and made us feel very rushed. When my husband decided to try and negotiate a deal for some souvenirs, she seemed almost angry that she had to wait. I would definitely go see the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's Temple, but it is better to see it without the guide.

Excellent guide and driver. Was very friendly and knowledgable. He had an entire dossier with hand drawn diagrams to explain to us the architecture of tombs in the Valley of the Kings, since guides are not allowed inside the tombs.

We contacted guide as per instructed and met Hedra, your rep there who was our saving grace in Egypt! He managed to arrange everything we needed and provide us with amazing service. We had Rami as our tour guide and he was good. We would have liked to have more time at each location since there is so much to see! We were disappointed that we were not told in advanced that if you purchased a second full price ticked you could enter to see more tombs. We skipped the factory visits...not interested. The sights are spectacular and worth the visit. Having a car with ac waiting at the end was just perfect! We combined this tour with the East Bank, Karnak and Luxor which made our guide want to hurry a bit more to cram it all up and finish earlier. We felt we did not get the full benefit of the 7 hours we were expecting to get. Still, the places are amazing. Take lots of water!
