This is a must do. The company outfits you with windbreaker suits - take them! It can get as low as 40 degrees at the top. The suits saved us from freezing. The only way to get to the top for sunrise is through a reservation so you will have to pick a company to get to the top. We did this on Easter and it was unforgettable. The bike ride down was SUPER easy. It did not take all the prior preparation I tried to do. I was worried about riding a bike since I don't do that in my normal workout routine.

What an awesome experience. Our tour guides were great fun. Kudos to our group for being experienced cyclists and didn't have any mishaps or slowed down the group.

Awesome group and tour. Was given ample instructions. Only wished they had allowed us to stop sooner on our way down to adjust gear and get better photo of rainbow. Would recommend!

The ride was a lot of fun! The sunrise was great. But, the bikes look like they need a lot of work.

Amazing! Best part of our trip. We were so impressed by our guides. I felt very safe the entire time. What a beautiful way to see the island!

The downhill adventure is a "MUST DO" when in Maui.....but the group...well let's just say...is not the best to go with. This tour operator is getting a little long in the tooth.....van's are old....bike's are OK....and his idea of a continental breakfast in the AM is packaged crackers and cookie's from the local store. ANd where you meet him is in the weirdest place....down in the old rundown industrial section of Kahului. Downhill is wonderfull...you have to do it.....but pick another provider.

By far our favorite adventure we had while on Maui; talk about exhilarating! For those who are skeptical: you can do it! I don't ride often and did just fine as it was ALL coasting down hill. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique ground level perspective of the beautiful Maui terrain.

They took us to the top hoping to get a view the crater of Mt. Haleakala. It was a rainy day, but the clouds cleared just long enough for us to get a few snapshots and them rolled in again. It rained almost the entire time during the downhill bike ride, but the crew (Tomas and Drew) provided rain gear that kept us dry. Tomas (riding the lead bike) and Drew (covering the rear in the van) were in constant communication so that we would know when to pull over to let cars pass. The entire experience was great fun, in spite of the rain, and we would do it again in a heartbeat!

It was great!!! The guides were funny but very safety conscious. They were very knowledgeable about the plants and history of Maui. I would do it any time again.

First class on safety and scenery. No water on trip and seamed possibly too early at top.

You would think that waking up at 2am for a 2 hour drive in the dark with the driver endlessly rattling on about himself and minutia, would be worth it if you witnessed an awe inspiring sunrise. Sadly, that was NOT the case. The day we went, we were told that we had witnessed one of the most spectacular sunrises over the Heleakala crater. Quite frankly, both my husband and I did not know what all the fuss was about.

We did the later ride, that is, we were picked up at 6:40am. We had a great time! I was terrified before starting the ride, but our guides, Drew and Tomas, were very encouraging and helpful. I really enjoyed this experience, even though I am not what you would call an experienced biker. I'm glad my husband and I decided to do this.

This Sunrise on top of the Volcano along with the bike ride was everything promised. The bus driver was a great historian of the National Park and we learned many facts we would not learned without his insight. The bike ride was a blast. Our bike leader was great and if I was a bit nervous at the start of the ride but at the end I was ready to zoom downhill again. Thanks to everyone at Cruiser Phil's for a great time.

Waking early (or not going to bed at all) was well worth the experience of watching the sun rise from Haleakala. Don't dismiss recommendations to dress extra warmly even if you're accustomed to cooler temperatures. You will be outside for a while, and it will likely be windy. For me the most exciting part was the opportunity to stargaze before the main event. The downhill bike ride was a breeze. The guides from Cruiser Phil's Volcano Riders were very professional and took great care to ensure everyone was comfortable and safe. Take the time to notice the various scents in the air on the ride down. Afterwards, treat yourself to a donut at the Komoda Store and Bakery in Makawo. The burrito-sized cream puff is well worth the extra calories. Besides, you'll burn it off on other activities.

The bus said be ready for 2 eventually got there 2.30. Included days continental breakfast have to buy your own at town. Bike ride guy told us that gratitude usually 20$ but not saying we have to pay that. No stops for photos. Only 15 min stop in village not hour as supposed to have. Not worth $166.

Overall, the bike ride was nice because of its scenic views and the sunset to start off the day. Unfortunately the bikes that were provided were very run down. My husband's bike did not have a functioning rear break, and that can be dangerous on a downhill ride. The driver on the tour grew up on Maui, so he was a wealth of knowledge and it was great talking to him. He gave us great tips on where to eat during the rest of our stay.

This was truly worth getting up at 2 am to do on holidays. The surise was beautiful and the ride down as totally exhilarating! I do wish that we could have stopped a couple more times for pictures but understandably the road is narrow and dangerous. Would recommend this to anyone and anyone can do it!

Crew was very nice, told nice stories and good time. But the bikes were old and not sturdy. If new bikes were provided this would be a 5 star rating.

The ride downhill was stunning. Pickup 2 AM and delivery 1:30 PM back to Kaanapali was provided. "Brunch" break was at own expense, though the company did provide rolls and coffee prior to the ride to the top of Haleakala for the sunrise. Company furnished a van during the trip to act as a defense for traffic and for anyone that could not complete, which never happened.

My pals I was traveling with said I was crazy but I woke up at 1.30am. Arriving at 4.30am and putting on a rubber suit was admittedly a bit strange but I loved every minute of it. About 300 onlookers watched the sun rise over the 3rd largest volcanic mountain in the world. The 38 mile bike down the 10,000 foot volcano was exhilarating. Nothing dangerous but going 35 MPH on a mountain bike around hairpin curves was swell. Stared at the silverswords. Saw rainbows, birds, and cattle. Smelled the eucalyptus and lavender farms. At the bottom we had breakfast at a famous spot in Makawao (yum yum) and then biked through Paia, according to our guide the 'haight-ashbury' of Maui. The trip ended with hugs and a Mahalo of course.

_strong_Note from Viator:_/strong_ Traveler tip: Keep cameras warm and close to because batteries tend to drain quickly. Supposedly it has something to do with the mineral composition of the volcano and its crater.

The sunrise was gorgeous! It's cold up there in the morning though so wear layers. The first half is a little scary being up so high and going so fast, but it's totally worth it!
