Small-Group Luxury Tour: Road to Hana and Ka'eleku Cavern Day Trip

Maui, United States of America

Experience the highlights of the legendary Road to Hana on this small-group day trip. Travel by luxury limo-van along the breathtaking Pacific coast and through lush rainforests on your way to mysterious Ka’eleku Cavern. Take a guided tour of this fascinating subterranean cave and take incredible photos of ancient lava formations. Then, enjoy a Pacific Rim lunch before arriving in Hana, where you’ll explore gorgeous waterfalls and bamboo forests, tour a tropical nursery garden, and have free time to swim in a cool freshwater pool – an unforgettable island experience!

After pickup from your Maui hotel in the morning, enjoy a light morning snack of pound cake, fruit juice and Kona coffee and begin your adventure along the famous Road to Hana. In the air-conditioned comfort of your luxury 8-person limo-van, you’ll travel through lush tropical rainforests and along splendid coastal routes to Ke’anae, where you'll get out and explore the quaint Hawaiian village full of peaceful taro fields. Then, continue to Waikani Falls, where you’ll admire glistening rainwater pools.

Along the way, your guide will provide interesting commentary about the sites you pass as well as native Hawaiian culture.

Stop at incredible Ka’eleku Cavern. Said to have been created by Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire, this enormous subterranean lava tube features dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. Wind your way through the underground cave passage with your guide and marvel at the unique landscape: mounds of seemingly chocolate-covered lava formations and swirls formed more than 30,000 years ago. Be sure to have your camera ready for amazing photos!

After your cave tour, enjoy a scrumptious Pacific Rim lunch served on a linen table cloth in a pavilion at the cavern. Dine on grilled chicken or seared ono with organic greens, vegetable pasta salad, fresh fruit and a brownie.

Arrive finally in Hana, a remote town on the rugged Pacific coastline featuring pristine beaches and verdant rainforests. Hop out the limo-van to stretch your legs and explore the cascading waterfalls and bamboo forests. Your guide will take you on a tour of Hana Tropicals, a stunning garden and nursery, where you can admire the beautiful flowers and vegetation.

Your return journey will be at a ‘Maui-style’ pace, with plenty of time to swim in the crystal-clear freshwater pools or simply relax and soak in the warm island atmosphere. You’ll arrive back at your Maui hotel in the early evening.

This trip was definitely worth the price. The limo van was very nice, and my husband and I were with two other couples for the entire day. A group of six was truly the perfect number for this tour we were all able to get to know each other, and we each had space and comfy seating. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, and we stopped at several beautiful waterfalls and parks off of the beaten path that we would have never found on our own, as well as an adorable orchid farm. Lunch was really tasty, and our driver set up everything for us to be ready to eat while we toured the lava cave. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The only downsides to this tour were that towards the end, I felt like our guide was continuing to ramble when we had all lost interest, and this tour made for a very long day of being in a vehicle.

There were some definite pros and cons to this trip...Pros: great, comfortable seating captain chairs visit to cave was good and not offered by other tour companies lunch was excellent swimming at waterfall site was wonderful...now for cons: driver had an attitude i.e. my way or the highway a store bought pastry like a hostess made, pre-wrapped danish one would get at a convenience store or gas station isn't a continental breakfast in my book, no coke or pepsi product soda to me includes diet coke or a pepsi, not just a cheap mango something can of juice, not offered cheap danish until well over 2 hours into trip, didn't spend a lot of time at black sand beach, not many photo ops, price was about 50 per person over other Road to Hana tours and they take you to the 7 pools, as well as all the way on the road not just halfway and stopping only as far as Hana - so too expensive for what you get. Even though we were the only passengers on our trip, it was painfully clear we really had no say in the day's activities or how long we were going to stop at each spot. While the driver was very informative, he was not very accommodating, clearly didn't appreciate diverting from his agenda even to the point of getting irritated if interrupted from his spiel. We accidentally left phone in restroom and while he did take us back about a mile to retrieve it, he made it crystal facial expressions / tone he was displeased. Will never take this tour again we much prefer other tour companies like Valley Isle. Seat comfort is not worth extra expense and driver attitude - not a very good trip.

Gayle was a very safe driver with a great love for the Hana Highway. Her enthusiasm showed the whole day. She was knowledgable about many of the plants we saw and knew the best places for pictures. The Lava Tube was interesting and the black sand beach was amazing! We had a great day. I highly recommend this tour.

We really enjoyed this trip! Melanie is a first-class guide with a wealth of knowledge, which made for a great experience. We took the trip with our three boys 12,13, and 14 and I'm glad that we did. I would have given this tour a 5th star if they could somehow shave a couple of hours off the duration because it made for an extremely long day, full of slow, winding roads, which had a few of us feeling a little green. I think my wife and I enjoyed the trip more than the boys did, so I would have to say this is a tour probably a little more suitable for grown adults than people with kids or teens, although they thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the chilly waterfall and exploring the cave tube. All in all, I'm very glad we went on this tour!

The most recommended, it was like a private and customized tour with only Sue and two of us. Sue was very knowledgeable and super friendly, she even brought us to her secret spot, we were amazed by the power of mother nature, it was spectacular and unforgettable experience to us, thank you for taking care of us during the whole trip, Mahalo!!

Really enjoyed someone else driving, so we could enjoy the views. The lava tube cave was a fun exploration, the sea cave on the Hana beach was cool, and the swim under the waterfall was a refreshing adventure.

A proper full day trip, rewarding and worthwhile. We saw so much, learned a lot and visited lots of cool places along the Road to Hana. Some of our faves were the black sand beach, lava tube and orchid farm. The van was so comfortable my partner even fell asleep on the way back to our hotel haha. Aloha from Australia!
