Small-Group Road to Hana Luxury Tour

Maui, United States of America

Travel the famously spectacular Road to Hana in comfort and style on this luxury small-group tour. With a maximum of eight passengers in a customized, deluxe limo-van, this full-day tour to Hana is the ultimate way to experience Maui's most famous road. On your leisurely journey, enjoy all the sights along the way and stop for multiple breaks to swim and relax. A professional guide, light breakfast and delicious lunch top off this spectacular day trip!

The Road to Hana is one of Maui's most famous attractions. On this 9-hour, luxury small-group tour, you'll be able to experience the road and all of the sights along the way at a relaxed pace and in total comfort. Tour this famous area in a deluxe, air-conditioned luxury limo-van with your professional guide and a group of no more than eight people, ensuring a more personalized experience.

Your day begins with complimentary pickup from your hotel in Maui and a light morning snack in Pa’ia to fuel up for your paradise adventure. Then, embark on your journey along the Road to Hana, where photo opportunities abound. You’ll make several stops along this spectacular coastal drive including Kaumahina State Park, offering splendid views of rugged lava sea cliffs; Ke’anae, a quaint Hawaiian village with peaceful taro fields; and Waikani Falls, glistening with fresh mountain rainwater.

The scenic road leads, of course, to Hana. The village of Hana is isolated from the rest of the island and is known for being the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui. Explore the village and stop at the Hana Tropical Gardens and nursery (if PICNIC option is selected) for an exclusive tour (included) and learn about the native Hawaiian people, their culture and land.

After traveling through a scenic tropical rain forest, delight in a delectable Pacific Rim lunch served on linen tablecloths -- not your average deli-style lunch! Your lunch will include grilled chicken, fresh ono and much more (see the Itinerary section for a sample menu). Following lunch, you'll have plenty of time to stroll, swim, sunbathe or just relax and enjoy the tropical paradise.

The return from Hana will be at a ‘Maui-style’ pace -- leisurely with plenty of stops. Bring your bathing suit and a towel to capture a lifetime of memories of swimming in a crystal- clear, freshwater pool under a cascading waterfall. In addition, the afternoon return journey will take you to Ho’okipa, giving you a glance at Maui’s world-class windsurfers. Arrive back at your Maui hotel in the early evening.

Even though it rained most of the day, the trip was amazing, and Gayle, our driver was very knowledgeable and fun, and made the tour very enjoyable! The van was very comfortable for an all day trip.

The road to Hana is a winding road with waterfalls. Hana is not impressive. Tour guide was a great and safe driver considering the road. The fact it rained all day was probably part of the issue.

We decided on the small-group tour instead of the bigger tour, in part because my height makes it uncomfortable to travel in your typical bus. If you have long legs, this is worth it, I never felt cramped at all. Having such a small group also meant we had more time for each stop, since it was so much quicker and easier to get on and off the van. The tour itself was beautiful, featuring numerous stops and a plethora of information and history behind what we're seeing along the way. The two meals we stopped for were very tasty. The best thing about the tour was to not have to drive the road to Hana ourselves. After going through the winding, clifftop, sometimes one-way around a blind curve roadway, I cannot recommend enough going on a tour like this so that you don't have to drive it yourself, which also means you can sight-see out the window instead of having to look at the road. As an added bonus, you get an entertaining personality in your driver, at least we did with Les. We had a great time, highly recommended.

Review by:   Calixto,    February 2018 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Our driver, Al, was courteous and attentive. He was a careful and skilled driver, which gave us comfort in the challenging road to Hana. Al needs to recheck his facts on sugar cane farming and production of sugar if he is going to talk at length on the subject. This luxury tour is marketed as a foodie tour neither the Mambo Café in Paia for breakfast, nor the Travasa Hotel in Hana best offerings, hamburger and fish tacos were better than OK. We were a group of 6, including a member with physical disability. My wife and I were the youngest at 72 and 71 respectively. No opportunity for swimming was given, no visit to the pools in Hana, limited stops for photo opportunities.

Great trip - beautiful scenery - comfortable van - highly recommend this tour!

TLDR: Do NOT spend your money on this Slog to Hana. Rent a car or book with a different tour company.

The tour is really good only 4 people on the tour, so that was great and the scenic beauty is really something you can't describe, BUT in my opinion, there was too much focus on telling us about the plant life AND not enough stopping for some photo ops supposedly there 50-60 foot waves in the ocean, but not in view from the van and that would have been something we all would have liked to see. It almost seemed as if our driver/tour guide was on a very tight schedule. I highly recommend doing the Road to Hana as a tour because I can see where driving it yourself would not be as enjoyable lots of tight turns, single lane roads and bridges...BUT nothing like you feel you are going to drive off the edge of a cliff.

We had a great trip! Our tour guide, Wayne was a delight! He was a fountain of information about the area! We had a very comfortable van. Breakfast and lunch were at wonderful local restaurants! It was well worth the money!

We were only four guests on this tour and our guide Melany was absolutely amazing. We learned so much about the road to Hana and the local lore. We made several stops, one being to see the turtles on the beach! We also visited a black sand beach and saw the huge waves being forced up into a blowhole within the lava rock formations! The diverse vegetation was incredible. We also saw several waterfalls. We would highly recommend this trip.

This was a good trip. We had good weather and a knowledgeable tour guide. Be careful of the winding roads since they can cause some vertigo.

We did the ultimate tour and had a memorable time Gail's enthusiasm for Maui and it's rich history, nature and culture is evident. We appreciated all the opportunities to get out of the van and experience the view, beaches or waterfalls up close and personally Since this is the foodie tour the breakfast and lunch spots were terrific Mango Cafe in Paia and Trevasa in Hana.

Tour guide was dull, food was disappointing compared to other tours we did. Meant to have lunch at a tropical garden nursery but the only place we went to was a sales pitch to send flowers from a tiny eco nursery where there was no where to eat - ended up having lunch at the beach in Hana with other tour groups. Overall if you're ok with driving do this one yourself don't rely on a tour.

This is the only way to travel the Road to Hana. Vehicle was comfortable and driver was excellent at negotiating the turns and bridges of the trip so we could sit back and enjoy the sites. He was very knowledgeable about the area and Maui in general, Made stops at waterfalls, black sand beach, little hippie town of Paia, giant sea turtle beach and other points of interest. Would have preferred to have left earlier so we could have spent more time at the beaches and waterfalls. But overall a very enjoyable day.

Good tour guide and taking the bus saves you the effort of driving the twisty sometimes single lane road to Hana.

We took the Hana small group tour on 8/20. We were fortunate to be the only people touring that day. Al was our tour guide for the day. He arrived at our condo right on time. Al was friendly and very knowledgable about Hana and the history of Maui and really made everything we saw so much more meaningful. We made frequent stops for photos and saw everything we had hoped to see. After driving on our own up to the Haleakala summit, it was really enjoyable and relaxing to have someone else do the difficult driving to Hana, and we could focus just on the beautiful scenery. Our two teenagers really liked stopping to swim at the black sand beach by Hana. All in all, it was a great tour and we would highly recommend it!

great tour ... the right size and out tour guide was very knowledgeable. I would recommend eating breakfast before you go though...we thought breakfast was included so we were pretty hungry when we stopped for juice/was and coffee cake at about 10. everything else was wonderful...

Paul was so informative. We learned so much about Maui and Hawaii. All of the stops were great and my kids enjoyed all of them (Hana Tropicals, waterfalls, black sand beach etc.) I am glad we did this tour rather than driving ourselves. It meant we could enjoy the views without the stress.

A comfortable 8 passenger van takes you on the serpentine road to Hana and back. There is a stop for breakfast in Paia and lunch in Hana. There are scenic stops along the route. Tour guide Les was very informative. There could be more brief stops for a look and photos, but the narrow road and shoulders make this difficult. We were very fortunate in having blue skies.

The guide was just OK. She didn't know much history about the Road to Hana and if she did she didn't share the history with the group. She was more interested in telling personal stories than history along the route of the tour. We felt very rushed in several spots and didn't even have enough time to go to the Black Sand Beach. This was very confusing to us due to the fact the tour was supposed to be 8 hours long but ended up taking 11 hours. Not sure what see was doing because we had only 10-15 minutes in several spots along the way. Would have rather missed the pictures of the rainbow eucalyptus trees and actually get to see the beach. The photo attached is as close as we got to the beach. She also loved the turtles, but how many pictures and how long can you look at a turtle laying in the sand not moving? The trip was just it needed to be better planned and executed. We were so glad the van was very nice and comfy.

We had our own hire car on Mauii but after reading other reviews decided to book the luxury small group tour so we could both enjoy the sights and eliminate the stress of driving those unknown hairpin bends and 1 lane bridges. In hindsight I would have driven ourselves as yes some of the trip was very tricky driving but for the price paid I really didnt think it was worth it. The food at both breakfast and lunch was not what I would call luxury and the day we went the bus was full which I think if there was only a few people it would have felt a bit more luxurious. After finally getting to Hana there's not much there and if I went next time I would do the helicopter ride back for not that much more money. On a positive note, the tour guide, Mel, was one of the friendliest guides I have ever encountered and what she didnt know was not worth knowing. She was fabulous and the best thing about the trip. So, next time for me, I would save my money which 751 AUS is not small change, and put it towards a helicopter trip which would have ticked all our boxes and saved a very long drawn out day which left me feeling like I'd made the wrong choice.

We had the advantage of being the only two booked on this tour. We had a wonderful tour guide, Jay who was pleasantly nice and very knowledgeable about the sights and history of Maui. There was not a boring moment on this journey. I didn't realize that the road to Hana was so long and had a lot of areas to cover that you just can't stop at all it had to offer. But Jay stopped at a few places where we could take pictures and swim if we wanted to. Also, breakfast and lunch places we stopped at were great too! This tour is a must do!

What a great tour! My family took the Road to Hana Luxury Tour and it was terrific. Our guide, Melanie, knew so much about Maui and was so nice. She was also great navigating the small winding road and was quick to point out sights and share local lore. The restaurants we dined at were first rate. I would highly recommend this tour!

This is the way to see Hana and the beautiful rain forest on east side of Maui. Michael, our guide, was able to point out vistas and local stopping points that we would have missed if driving ourselves and contributed a great deal of local knowledge. Speaking of driving ourselves, having taken this tour, it is clear that had we driven ourselves it would have been a big mistake - this is certainly a drive that requires the full attention of the driver, so while the passenger may see some sights, the driver will be out of luck. We enjoyed the stop offs at various local vendors, the swimming hole under the waterfall, the village on the peninsula, beaches, etc. Food provided was fair, which is why we rated this four-star rather than five. And no coffee on a morning expedition just isn't right. Tour van was comfortable and nicely appointed. Recommended tour.

This tour was unforgettable! Ted was our guide/driver and he was such a knowledgeable guide! He surprised us with a visit to a small beach that had over 25 turtles sunning themselves......it was an amazing site! To Ted: You are such a great person Ted, a genuine kind person and I appreciate you! Thanks so much for that wonderful day! Hopefully I will be back!! Cheers! Nancy

Had a very nice experience! Our Tour Guide Jay did a very professional job and exhibited a deep knowledge of Hawaii, Maui and the Road to Hana! The information he shared really brought the area we visited to life. What a great history! Amazing how the Hawaiian Islands came to be. _br/_ We toured with three other couples who added even more to the experience.

The guide was very knowledgeable and the trip unhurried. We had the opportunity to stop at sights along the way and swim under a waterfall at one of them. The winding road climbs to dizzying heights and the views are amazing! It was so nice to have someone else do the driving.

Two for the price of one. Our tour guides - Surfing Sue and Toronto Ted - did an excellent job. They had so much information to share. They were careful drivers and very attentive when I became queasy. I have driven myself to Hana before, but this time wanted the full tour experience. They really delivered.

The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. There were only 4 of us total on the tour so he let us take extra time at various stops. The van was very nice and comfortable. The only criticism I have is of the picnic lunch. It consisted of a bland pasta salad, fruit and blah chk wrap.

The tour guide was great, the bus was comfortable and fabulous, but the tour was entirely too long. We were exhausted and could not wait to get back to the hotel by the end of the trip. Once again, the tour was great....guide was great, but way to long.

My driver was the best. He made everything so enjoyable. He told us a lot about all the foliage and water falls, also plants and towns. He was very attentive to all our needs even patient when some of us was a few minutes late to come back to the van. The trip itself was worth every penny we spent on the trip. AWESOME.,

This is the only way to do Hana! The bus was very comfortable and it was wonderful to do this tour with a small group. Our driver provided us with lots of stories along the way and pointed out lots of interesting things along the way. The stops were awesome and he also acted as our photographer. Can't say enough good things about this trip!

Review by:   Anne-Luise W,    August 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
We spent quite a bit of time at two restaurants for breakfast and lunch to the point it impacted the amount of time we had for the actual drive to Hana. Several times we pulled over the side of the road and did not get out of the van and handed our cameras to the driver so he could take pictures out of his open window. There were other tourists and tour groups that had stopped to see waterfalls and other sites, for the most part we did not. We got off the bus twice and were promised an opportunity to take a short swim we brought towels and bathing suits but this too never happened and we were never told why. Really wished we have travelled with one of the other companies,

A wonderful trip despite the rain. Wonderful, very well informed guide. Old Hawaii at its best. Too much rain prevented swimming in the pool below the waterfall, as the water was brown coming over the falls.
