Taxco and Cuernavaca from Mexico City

Mexico City, Mexico

Soak up the perfect climate of 'The City of Eternal Spring', Cuernavaca and enjoy a scenic drive to Taxco, the colonial silver mining city on a full day guided coach tour from Mexico City. You'll have the opportunity to purchase some of Mexico's beautiful jewelry and handicrafts as you become captivated by this city's extraordinary Old World ambiance!

Head to Cuernavaca, a popular weekend retreat for Mexico City residents, where a small city tour will be given. It is a beautiful city known as the 'city of eternal spring' for its joyous atmosphere and enjoyable climate.

You'll then take a scenic drive to Taxco, which is known as the 'silver city' and is one of the prettiest towns in Mexico. The city tumbles across a hillside with winding cobblestone streets, tile roofed buildings, cozy squares and a strong Old World ambiance that has survived for hundreds of years.

You'll then visit one of Mexico's grandest churches, Santa Prisca. It was built in 1759 by French immigrant Jose de la Borda who literally stumbled upon a huge silver claim. Santa Prisca is a riot of ornate Baroque styling flanked by twin bell towers. The interior displays some of Mexico's beautiful goldleaf ornamentation. You'll have plenty of time to have lunch and also visit the marketplace and the famous silversmith shops!

After seeing Taxco, it is time to head back to Mexico City where you'll be driven back to your hotel.

I enjoyed the trip though the departure was a bit late and as it takes a lot to get to Taxco, we arrived very late._br/_ Cuernavaca was ok but we only could visit the church. For Taxco, it was great and the whole group made the day really enjoyable._br/_ Just take into consideration that as the trip takes a lot of time, you are kind of running the whole day.

Taxco is incredible and well worth the 3 hour drive from Mexico City. Our tour however was poorly organised. We changed buses three times before leaving Mexico City. 9am was our pickup time from the hotel lobby, eventually picked up at 9.45 then with the bus changes and also tour guide changes it meant we finally left Mexico City at 11.45am. With a 3 hour drive ahead our tour guide opted to miss out Cuernavaca and head straight to Taxco. When we arrived in Taxco if became apparent that the main agenda was to only showcase the silver stores. We had to abandon our tour guide to avoid this and in doing so got to see some beautiful sights. It was 8pm when the bus pulled into Cuernavaca on the return trip - very dark and late, we couldn't see very much at all so it was pointless. Our tour guide also tried to tell us that some of our party had not paid for the tour which was completely untrue as we paid for this in full well in advance. We were never given an explanation as to why there were so many changes at the start of the trip. Definitely go to Taxco, it's the prettiest little town and well worth seeing, just a shame that the tour company itself is not very organised.

The tour is not really one to Cuernavaca-we stopped at one church which was closed due to earthquake damage. Taxco is a long trip in the van. They stopped us at a silver factory outside Taxco-we were captured for both buying and for a lunch buffet worst food we had in Mexico. Taxco itself is a lovely city. We would rather have eaten there and had time to wander the little streets and shop there. Guides were fine-people need to know how long the drive is and a better idea of the real schedule. If you have a short time in Mexico city-do not take this trip.

Taxco is a beautiful town, but there was not much to do than going from shop to shop and buy some silver. There's nothing interesting to do or see in Cuernavaca, so it would have been better not to stop there, rather go straight to Taxco and just go back to Mexico City a little bit earlier. Our guide was very friendly and with a great sense of humor.

We absolutely loved Taxco, Cuernavaca, Raul, our tour guide and his skillful driver Natcho! This was a small 12-15 person tour. We enjoyed the pick-up service from our hotel and drop off at the end of the tour. Raul has a low, raspy, but clear English speaking voice, which made everything he said, sound more interesting and entertaining. This tour was very pleasant as it was laid back, we had some free time on our own and not as rushed as other tours are. This is a lovely full day trip, we enjoyed every minute of it and enjoyed meeting all the interesting and fun people who was on the tour that day as well. Thanks for the lovely memories!

My husband and I had an awesome time on our day-long excursion to Taxco and Cuernavaca. Alejandra, our guide, was an encyclopedia of knowledge about Mexico and the places we visited, and our driver, Juan Carlos, provided excellent service. He got us, to and fro with safety and efficiency. You will likely stop at a silver workshop on the outskirts of Taxco. There you are given a brief presentation about the history of silver in Mexico. They will tell you what to look for in purchasing Mexican silver and what to avoid. We found this helpful. After this, they take you into the big room where table after table is filled with articles for purchase. You are not obligated to buy, so don't feel any pressure. We purchased a small item and then went outside to enjoy the views. All in all, a very nice excursion out of the city.

If you want to go to Taxco and Cuernavaca, don't go on this tour. Go on your own, or pick something better. The stop in Cuernavaca is a complete waste of time. There is nothing there to see, other than the old church, which is in a pretty sad state of disrepair.

Loved Taxco, very beautiful. Cuernavaca cathedral was in the process of restoration however we did enjoy the surrounds. Guide was in too much of a hurry to allow us to do souvenir shopping apart from the Silver stall shopping in Taxco. Would recommend.

Tour was rather good but I'm seeing a trend with the day trips in Mexico that they bring you to a touristy shop with high prices. I'm all for learning about the process of silver mining and the history, but to have a long designated time to shop at one particular shop is insulting. ...makes one feel like all Americans are chopped liver. Anyhow, the drive to both cities was nice and Taxco was quite picturesque. Don't expect to find a single artisinal silver product though. All the shops in town are cheap mass-produced silver with zero artwork involved. Had I known this, I might have skipped the tour. I would plan on going just to soak in the nice colonial architecture and views...that's it. It's good for the local people that tourism is good, but for me it's very sad.

Taxco and Cuernavaca are great places to visit. But it was a long day starting at 8:15 and ending around 10pm. Of course it was convenient to be picked up but we were the first and the last dropped off. We did not get on the road until at 9:15 going around picking up other travelers.

This tour was good, but not great. I was hoping for more in depth immersion into the world of silver mining - but ultimately, found this to be a glorified shopping trip. Our Guide was informative, but not very personable eg, he did not utter a word of during the 4 hour, traffic laden return trip. Not sure why we spent two hours in Taxco - there was much more to see and learn about in Cuernavaca - which we rushed in and out of. Finally, lunch was mediocre, at best. By the time we got to it, we were scraping the bottom of the buffet pans.

I took this day trip, and I mean a full day,to see what lies outside the big city, and I wasn't disappointed! the countryside is so pretty, both towns our group 3 visited was old world charm at its best! the churches were breathtaking, the poinsettia plants were in full bloom, the food was amazing ,plenty of shops in taxco to purchase amazing handmade silver jewelry for a reasonable price. As I stated, it was a full day, mostly because of backed up traffic caused by construction, but it was time well spent, our tour guide was a walking encyclopedia of mexican history, he couldn't have been any nicer, again, a lot of bang for your buck!!

Taxco was an amazingly picturesque town. Wish we had more time to explore it, but I was happy to have spent the allotted lunch hour at the silver mine, as I bought some great pieces there. FYI when I was exploring historic Taxco on my own, I popped into one of the jewelry stores to compare their prices with the shop at the mine. The prices for comparable pieces were the same. In fact, I was able to negotiate a nice discount on the piece I bought at the silver mine, which actually made their price lower than the town's shop. All-in-all it was a very long day, but well worth the time and a great trip. If you go in December, the temperature is noticeably warmer in Taxco and Cuernavaca than in Mexico City, which for me was a plus. Mexico City's highs are only in the low 70's, whereas the temps in these two towns are in the 80's with abundant sunshine and plenty of fresh air. After returning to Mexico City that evening, I had one of the best meals I ever tasted at a restaurant frequented by locals near the Plaza de La Constitucion. It's called Café de Tacuba, and I highly recommend the beef tamale with tortilla soup and a beer the total bill was USD 10, including tip. It was the perfect cap to a perfect day. Happy travels.

I was disappointed in our Cuernavaca visit. I had been there several times in the past. And wanted to share it's beauty with my friends. This tour stopped at only the Cathedral. We did not see the beautiful neighborhoods of Cuernavaca. From what we saw...you would never guess...

With many of the tours, it is Church heavy, which I understand it is a big part of the history of Mexico. I am a Roman Catholic priest, so I understand seeing Churches. My big issue with this tour was that while in Cuernavaca we visited the old Church, we were down the road from the palace and house that Hernán Cortés built but did not go there. In Taxco, we went to a gift store of silver, learned about silver and then went for Lunch. We went to the Cathedral and only had 1/2 hour to explore Taxco. I also had to remind the tour guide that some english would be helpful.

This is a tour where you spend 11 hours, mostly on the bus getting there and back. _br/_ We spent 30 min in Cuernacaca, clearly not long enough. _br/_ And yet when we arrive in Taxco, 45 minutes was spent in a shop trying to sell us silver. The so-called mine was a 2 minutes description in a fake room. I really did not appreciate that visit. _br/_ then we had lunch in Taxco and then a local guide took us to visit the cathedral, walking through the streets of Taxco. Again we had 45 minutes for shopping for silver. Really this should be stated in the description of the trip. _br/_ The guide was old and repeated the same personal stories, over and over. Not the quality expected from a guide. In addition, he called everyone Chicos, which was not very polite. _br/_ Overall, I was not impressed with this tour.

Everything was great. Seriously. There is only one feedback I'd like to give the company: The driver of our van risked our lives on the highway by passing cars in areas where passing cars is not permitted. In fact, he was pulled over by the police once, and unfortunately, he simply gave the police officer a bribe and then continued risking our lives on the highway. Other than that, the excursion was great.

The guide's English was not the greatest and we only understand half of what she said. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable tour and the Mexican people on our bus were interesting and very friendly. We even belted out some karaoke on our way back! The traffic was horrible leaving Mexico City and we only got to Taxco at about 2pm. However our tour guide allowed us to stay in Taxco until 7pm and we got to watch the Easter Friday procession. Taxco was extremely beautiful and a must see.

The tour of Cuernavaca consisted of a visit to the main church. The tour deviated because 3 of the 4 members of the tour wanted to visit Maximilian's house which turned out to be closed. The guide told us where it was and we went on our own. The Taxco portion began with a visit to a silver shop so that we could spend money. We bought. We then went on to the center of Taxco and visited the beautiful church and then went to a restaurant for lunch. The view from the balcony was great. Afterwards we were free to wander about on our own. My friend and I spent most of our time in the plaza fending off pleas to buy item after item. We had both a guide and driver. On the way out of Mexico City the guide gave us information and answered questions. Instead of Spanish as we had expected the guide spoke English because two Germans signed up the the tour in Spanish but could not understand very much of it. I wishe we had taken a Taxco only tour.

In deed a beautiful city that worth visit._br/_ But it was really uncomfortable for 7 people fit into a small vent for this min. 6 hours drive, especially for the one who sat in the middle of the back seats that had little room for legs._br/_ The time allowed to spend at the silver shop right before entering Taxco should be limited to 30mins. Should not allow one person who could not stop shopping make all the others wait and wait.

It was a long bus ride, probably more than 5 hours in the road. Just very short time maybe less than an hour in Cuernavaca. A reasonable amount of time was spent in Taxco, with around a hour free walking time. The guide should have passed us some map for our walking.

I recommend this tour. The town of Taxco is beautiful! We would not of visited this town if it wasn't for this tour. Cuernavaca was also nice, Didn't stay there too long. I would recommend elimination the silver stores visit. They try and get you to purchase their silver. I would rather do more site seeing than visit silver stores. They take you to two 2 stores. this trip was long and we didn't get beack to our hotel till after 10pm. If they eliminate the silver stores we would of been back earlier. That is my only complaint.

The cities are beautiful. A quick stop in Cuernavaca and a visit to the cathedral. Taxco is amazing. Lots of time here. Lots of travel. The lunch place is mediocre and no other choices unless you wait until Taxco. The van was cramped for 10 adults. Frank was very nice but hard to hear in the back.
