Teotihuacan Pyramids and Shrine of Guadalupe

Mexico City, Mexico

Experience the ancient City of the Gods on a visit to the archaeological site of Teotihuacan. Your full day guided tour will highlight the complexities of Aztec treasures. You'll have the opportunity to climb the magnificent Pyramids of the Sun and Moon and see the Butterflies Temple, the Avenue of the Dead and the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. Book now for a step back in time that you'll never forget!

Few cities in the world have been considered worthy of being inhabited by Gods but Teotihuacan is such a city. Thousands of years of civilization, which today can still be felt along its wide avenues projecting out towards the cardinal points of the universe had to pass before this place could be elevated to the ranks of a mythical city.

This full day tour will take you to the archaeological site of Teotihuacan, which is one of the most impressive sites of the Aztec World. Located only one hour outside of Mexico City, you'll have the chance to see the complexities of Aztec treasures.

You'll also visit the Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe, the most visited religious site in Latin America. Built in the 16th Century, this Shrine is a wonderful example of Spanish Baroque Art. In 1531, a 'Lady from Heaven' appeared to a poor Indian at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of Mexico City. She identified herself as the Mother of the True God, instructed him to have the bishop build a temple on the site and left an image of herself imprinted miraculously on his tilma.

Interesting tour with two friendly guides the guide and the driver. Arrived on time and true their best to return us to the hotel due to blocked streets because demonstrations.

Olympus Tours is hit or miss. If you get lucky and get assigned a good local tour operator, you're in luck. I booked 2 tours with Olympus Tours - one for Teotihuacan and another one for Taxco. The one for Teotihuacan was quite disappointing as the tour guide could barely speak English. He was literally forcing words out one word at a time and it was quite painful to listen to. I didn't get much from the narration and neither did the other English-listening parties on the tour. Another low point of this tour was too much time was spent in shops where they sell you silver jewelry and stuff and too little time spent on the actual sites. We saw the Sun temple in Teotihuacan but didn't have enough time to check out the Moon temple.

We were picked up at our hotel and our guide was fabulous. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and energetic. I don't normally like a shopping tour but we stopped at a few places where we could see how things were made. There was no high pressure sales and the stops were interesting with quality goods which you could purchase if you chose to. At a Mescal distillery we were able to sample different ages of mescal and tequila There was a couple of hours in Teotihuacan with free time to climb the pyramids walk around the site. At the Shrine of Guadalupe we saw the old and the new Basilica. We chose the lunch included option and I really enjoyed it. If you only had one day in Mexico City, this is a tour I would recommend.

I was incredibly disappointed in this tour. It should have been called Hint of Pyramids tour, since we barely had more than an hour to enjoy the vast pyramids, at the very END of the day. The tour guide and driver were nice but not capable of leading a tight tour. Nothing was kept to schedule and there were a lot of random stops that didn't make sense. At the beginning of the tour, we stopped at some archaeological site in the middle of the city, next to some giant wall mural. We stood in the hot sun, staring at this random site, struggling to figure out what it was and why we were there. And that's all we did: stare at it. We then wandered to a big mural, where we listened to a really long and rambling explanation. No idea why we were looking at it, as it just seemed to be a big mural and have zero historical significance. The guide was completely incapable of keeping people moving along or providing a succinct explanation for anything. At one point, a bunch of people went rogue and wandered off to find a bathroom. She joined them while the rest of the group JUST STOOD AROUND for what seemed like forever. We then spent a ridiculous amount of time in a horrible silver store that smacked of a giant tourist trap, where everyone was forced to try on a big fake necklace modeled after the one in Titanic. I was hounded by sales people to buy something. We were there SO LONG and it was just awful. Again, everyone was bored and went rogue, wandering down the street to get food. Not once did the guide Anna ever express any sense of urgency. The tour of the Shrine was interesting, but again, way too long and so disorganized. We finally made it to our lunch stop. The food was delicious but the restaurant and guides were so inept at handling the crowd. No one seemed to know what was going on. Meanwhile, we all stared through the window at the pyramids, while muttering to ourselves Are we EVER going to get there? But before we could leave, we were subjected to a hard sell of the restaurant's tequila offerings. By the time we finally made it to the pyramids, we were told to be back by 5pm, sharp. I looked at my watch and said out loud: You mean we have BARELY more than an hour to explore this giant area? I was told, Yes, sorry. So I took off like a shot and did my best but I was crushed that I spent my hard-earned money and my one free day in Mexico City on a pyramid tour that only provided me a hint of the pyramids. I felt pressured to give a good rating when they passed out the survey forms, based on what they were saying and the fact there was zero anonymity. When I reconnected with my colleague that evening, and told him the amount of time we had at they pyramids, he was shocked. He'd taken an Uber the last time he visited and spent more than half a day exploring the entire area. I completely regret not doing that. After this tour, I was so nervous about the all-day I'd signed up for in London Stonehenge inner-circle tour. But that tour turned out to be everything the one in Mexico City should have been. It was well-run, well-narrated, kept on time and worth every penny. This pyramid tour was none of those things. It was just a hard sell of touristy items buy silver! buy tequila!, that smacked of the guides getting a kickback, with a hint of actual sightseeing. I wished I'd asked for my money back.

Wonderful guided tour of the pyramids with a nice stop at a silversmith's shop and and obsidion shop. Following our stop at the pyramids, and a wonderful lunch, a visit to the Basilica of Guadaloupe. Full, but TERRIFIC day!!

We were picked up at 9am, but left the city at 10:30--the pick up time was very long. We arrived at the first stop at 11:30--a shopping place with souvenirs, and stayed there for about 90 minutes. We arrived at the Teotihuacan at 1pm, and the tour guides gave us 2 hours--she didn't enter with us. I wish she could give us more introduction of the history and cultural background of the amazing architecture. We did buffet lunch in the same place where we shopped. After that, we went to the Shrine, where she did a good tour. We got back to hotel around 4:30pm. The guide guide spoke limited English, but it was OK for basic communication. Given the price, I think it's worth it.

the tour was WELL worth the price. our guide was very good. we were picked up at our hotel on time and allowed enough time at each of the stops to see all we wanted to see. only one encountered issue, when we got to Teotihuacan the tour guide held all our entry tickets upon entering the site which did not allow us to enter the onsite museum without them. the museum was worth seeing we went back the next day to see it SO make sure you get your stubs once you get there._br/_ Paying the additional fee for the lunch was a good decision. very good food and drinks.

Disappointing. We booked this tour thinking that we will be able to spend some time at the Shrine of Guadalupe. Instead, we spent more time at gift shops and travelling. We spent about two hours in the pyramids mostly on our own and about half an hour at the shrine. We had lunch at 3 PM. The tour guide and the driver were nice but lack the command of the English language. If you want to spend more time at the shrine, this is not the tour for you. I suggest you do it on your own and read the story of the Virgin Mary on line. The shrine is huge and you can easily spend half a day walking through. There is a mass every hour at the Basilica if you wish to attend service.

Our tour guide did an excellent job communicating both English and Spanish throughout the tour, however I feel as is if she should of had to do this. There should be two separate tours for each language. This tour had way too many gift shop stops, I stopped counting after the fourth one. Also, when we stopped at the Teotihuacan pyramids our guide dropped us off and didn't really give us any historical perspectives on them. Lunch wasn't until 4pm - a bit late for lunch, bordering into dinner.

Fantastic tour, be prepared for lots of walking but the rewards are in the sites. Entire family enjoyed it. Due to the elevation would recommend you wait a day or so after arriving in Mexico city if possible to get acclimated.

Overall the tour was great. I wanted to see the Teotihuacan Pyramids as expected ... although honestly, you will spend only about 1.5 hours on the actual part of the pyramids. All the other time is the pickup/dropoff, traveling times. The two guides I had were hilarious. However, like most tours, they take you to places where its obvious they want tourists to buy souvenirs. The only place I thought it was worth buying was liquor, when we did the mezcal, tequila, and other Mexican liquour tasting. It was funny. And our driver, while he drove crazy, got us to all places FAST and SAFE haha.

The pyramids and shrine were absolutely fabulous and a must to see. However it was very long being 11 hours before we got back to the hotel. The trip could have been made shorter if we did not have to go to all the stores in between to have to buy cheap jewellery and artifacts. We started off at 9h30 and by the time we go to the shrine it was already 11am. We only got to pyramids at 2pm due to all the insignificant stops . We feel the main reason was to see the pyramids and shrine not the stores. We then also only had lunch at 3h45 which made it a long day. To then have to tackle what should have been a 45 min trip back to Mexico City ended up being 3h30 in gruelling traffic conditions.

Mexico City is a marvel and this tour was a good opportunity to get some exposure to the outskirts and learn some ancient history. Tour guide Jose was pleasant and informed. The only thing preventing it from being a perfect day was that the cooler, located prominently in the van was empty! Water is a necessity especially if your intentions are to climb the pyramids. We had to purchase our own.

This was probably one of the worst tour experiences. I went in fully expecting and accepting of the fact that I would be asked to spend time in souvenir shops. However this particular tour was particularly egregious in agenda to push souvenirs on tour participants. We were were driven to souvenir places before we were taken to the planned destinations. We spent over 2 hours in 2 separate souvenir sites for comparison, we spent 1.5 hour at the pyramids. By the time we did get to the pyramids, the sun was blazing overhead and I was in a foul mood. All of this was made worse by the fact that the guide, Ana, had a limited grasp of the Teotihuacan pyramids and the Guadalupe basilica. She spent more time explaining about different souvenir objects than on the sites themselves. Her English was also very limited. The drive back to the hotel short due to the drivers, Cesars, complete lack of regard for speed limit and safety.

Awesome trip, awesome guide. _br/_ I would suggest just a little more time during the time allotted to climb the pyramids at Teotihuacan. It was a little crowded Sunday trip and felt a little rushed trying to climb the Pyramid of the Sun. _br/_ Overall, awesome tour and would absolutely recommend.

On our way to the Shrine of Guadalupe, we stop to view another ancient Aztec ruin, then proceded to the Shrine of Guadalupe. Our tour guide was informative. Overall the Teotihuacan Pyramids were amazing. I did learn a lot of the historical culture on this trip. Worthwhile to include the extra payment for your lunch.

I was thrilled to start my honeymoon with the visit of the pyramids and I couldn't be more disappointed!_br/_ We booked the visit of the pyramids and the shrine of guadalupe, I specified that i DID NOT want any lunch/shop/mezcal producer visit but we finally had a trip that lasted all day instead of 4 hours and THE TIME FOR CULTURAL VISITS WAS CUT OFF TO SPEND TIME IN THE TOURISTS SHOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!_br/_ The guide we were supposed to have during the trip dIdn't stay with us, we were with another guide who just accompanied us with a poor level of english our tour was booked in english and even his spanish was hard to understand. Not only I suspect that he was not a real guide, but the few information he gave us about the pyramids WERE WRONG !_br/_ On the visit description we were supposed to visit the Temple of Quetzacoatl, and WE DIDN'T !!!

My family took the trip to the Teotihuacan pyramids and were very disappointed. We were picked up an hour late by an employee who then drove us to a holding station. About 30 minutes later we finally got into a packed van. We thought we were on our way to the Pyramids! Much to my disappointment we were taken to a souvenir shop were we spent 45 minutes. After that we stopped at yet another souvenir shop before arriving at the Shrine of Guadalupe were we were able to visit for less than an hour. Off we went to the Pyramids so I thought we stopped for lunch first then off we went. We finally made it to the Pyramids 6 hours later! As we were getting off the van we were told we had an hour and half because we were going to go to yet another souvenir shop afterwards. The disappointing part was that we were only able to visit the pyramids for an hour and half. I would never of signed up if I knew we were going to spend the day souvenir shopping. I have taken many Viator tours before and they have all been great with the exception of this one. They really should be clear on the booking site about the tour being a souvenir shopping day with a token stop at the pyramids.

first let me say that the tour guide was amazing, very informative and able to answer even the strangest of questions. Lunch was very good and well prepared. the journey through mexico city gives to a flavour of the different areas and places we could visit again. _br/_ however.. for an 11 hour day im not joking we spent a lot of time picking people up and the trip was spoilt by too much time spent in shops and not enough in the important parts like the pyramids and the shrine of Guadalupe, which i might add we actually nearly ran through with the amount of time we had left. though the price tag for a private tour was 4 times the amount of this tour I would highly recommend it. _br/_ It was a shame as there was so much more we could have done in the time we had,

Fantastic tour! Highly recommend - everyone that visits Mexico City needs to see these pyramids. The rest of the tour was nice, but the pyramids were the highlight. I enjoyed the shopping excursion to visit Raphael at his shop. The church and excavations within in the city were an incredible sight as well. By the end of the trip, after lunch, I was ready to get back. While the stop at the agave and tequila farm were nice, I could have skipped that part! The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe was a perfect crescendo to the tour! Loved the church, the history of the site. Our tour guide was incredible too - full of knowledge and information both on the way there and back.

Good full day tour. Our guide Jose was very knowledgable and made extra efforts to explain everything in both Spanish and English._br/_ The pyramids are spectacular and worth the trip. The stop at the silver store was not necessary and wasted time we could have spent at the pyramids. The lunch restaurant was very pleasant and we enjoyed our meal. The shrine at Guadalupe was a bit of a disappointment. There's a huge new modern 5,000 seat church beautiful built around it and was not the moving spiritual place I had hoped to experience. Overall, a good organized day trip. Climbing to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun is possible, even for this 62-year old!
