While you’re in Montego Bay, don’t miss this day trip to Dunn’s River Falls, one of Jamaica’s most famous natural attractions. Swim and play in the pools formed by the waterfall, climb up the naturally formed terraces, if you wish, or hang out on the beautiful beach. You also have the option to include a few hours in Ocho Rios to shop for local crafts, coffee and other souvenirs. Hotel transport is included.
Your 6-hour tour starts with hotel pickup for the scenic drive to Dunn’s River Falls, about 60 miles (97 km) east of Montego Bay along Jamaica’s North Coast Highway. During the 1.5-hour drive, look out the window to admire views of the Caribbean and the rural countryside, and pass by the historical town of Falmouth and Columbus Park, where Christopher Columbus first landed on the island.
When you arrive at this popular natural attraction — known for its lush setting and for its roles in the Tom Cruise movie Cocktail and the James Bond movie Dr No — learn a bit about its characteristics, most notably how it’s one of the only waterfalls on Earth that empties directly into the ocean. Then get ready to climb up to the top!
Before you begin your ascension of the 600-foot (180-meter) terraced falls, put on non-slip water shoes (available for rental if you don’t bring your own) and hold hands with the people next to you. Then carefully follow your guide up the ‘steps’ formed by the naturally chiseled rocks. Stop along the way to swim in one of the small pools that have formed on the different levels, and when you reach the top, finally out of the trees, you’ll be rewarded with a nice view.
Climbing the falls is optional; if you’d rather relax, just hang out on the deck located near the river to admire the falls, go swimming in the natural lagoon at the bottom or relax on the adjacent beach.
Shopping option (an additional three hours): If you choose the shopping option, you’ll visit the town of Ocho Rios before heading to Dunn’s River Falls. Spend time at a shopping center and craft market to pick up gifts and souvenirs. There are plenty of requisite T-shirts and shot glasses to be found, as well as native wood carvings and other artwork, jewelry, and local rum and coffee. You can also enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants located around the area (own expense).
Your day trip ends with the return drive to Montego Bay.
We missed the information that stated you needed to check in to the activity 48 hours prior to departure. Luckily, an agent at our resort was able to get us to the falls still, but not the shopping at our expense. We were okay with this as it was our mistake. Highly recommend the falls, SO much fun! However, the 40 video at the end was so not worth what we paid. Poor quality.

This tour was a lot of fun. Our travel time was longer then expected because we were the first to be picked up and the last to be dropped off. The part of the tour I could do without is the market you need to walk through to exit the park, I am all for buying souvenirs but not if I am pressured.

A must do in Jamaica! The hike up the Dunns River Falls is not bad at all. Just make sure you wear some water shoes so you have some sort of grip on your feet. Tour guide was friendly and helpful. They even took pictures of us which was very nice.

The didn't get picked up on the day we booked because nobody told us we had to see a representative on the property after I called when I made it to the resort. We only did the fall and not the shopping trip and I felt rushed. The falls was very beautiful.

Dunn's River Falls was a fun tour! As always, the climb up the falls was a fun workout! The bus ride to Ocho Rios was ok as the bus legroom left a lot to be desired. Our tour guide, Crystal, was awesome! We learned a lot about Jamaica. The restaurant and shopping center we visited were just ok.

I had been here back in 1976 and it doesn't seem to have changed much. This time we climbed up the falls which was fabulous and the guides were great. The day was really hot but the water was very refreshing and not as cold at I had thought. _br/_ Thoroughly recommend this trip the falls are wonderful

It was a very good trip. I just wish the Dunns Rivers Falls part was first. After the tour and the shopping and lunch, I was a lil tired to do the falls. Regardless, my lady and I had a good time. Adrian our guide showed everyone a good time and was very informative, Yeah Mon!

The tour was a good experience. Only complaint is that I guide wasn't really needed for the falls because we wasted to much time waiting. And when climbing, we ended up not holding hands through the whole experience.

This adventure was one of the highlights of our trip. The Falls are beautiful although challenging and the ride there is filled with beautiful scenery and in a great travel bus. We enjoyed the shopping and a chance to purchase local made souvenirs and have a true Jamaican lunch. But, the real highlight of the day, for us, was the opportunity to spend the day with the Captain and Carol and if you're lucky enough to get to meet these 2 and spend your time with them, you will be blessed in surprising ways!

Wonderful tour! Tour guides are funny and full of energy! Make sure you have swimming shoes as to the rocks are rather slippery! I climbed the fall with my 8yo and I was quite scared for him. The current is very strong so if your child is younger and not athletically inclined then its not 4 them

This was not an enjoyable tour. We were picked up late at our hotel. We were the first hotel picked up and the last hotel that was dropped off from the tour. The total hours was supposed to be 6 and we were gone for almost 8. Spending most of the time on the bus or being treated like cattle in a big group. Climbing the falls was not very enjoyable with such a large group and requiring to hold hands. It was a bad decision to book this tour and waste an entire day without drinks or food to eat. Would recommend booking with a company that doesn't pickup at 8 hotels and catering to such a large group.

We chose the JTL Dunn's River Falls/Ocho Rios Shopping tour we reserved thru Viator. Picked up at the hotel in a nice van which held about 20. Carol was an exceptional guide. She provided local color and details regarding the agriculture and culture of the island during the 1 hour ride from Iberostar to Ocho Rios. Only about an hour stop in Ocho Rios. Do take a stroll beyond the 2 block street of stores where the van is parked. Additional shopping and touring near the cruise ships. _br/_ Dunn's river falls seemed a little over 100 yards long are not extremely challenging but it is an accomplishment and a memory. The guides are professional and extremely helpful in aiding those who need it and identifying the fun spots for pics and where to get really wet. _br/_ Can be a little busy with different groups mingling as they work at different speeds ascending the falls. We went on Monday and found we had only 1 other group mixing in our climb. They seem to stage the groups well. Other commentators discussing crowds may have been climbing during a 'cruise ship' day.

Beautiful place! Set up for tourism. Walking up the falls, our tour guide and photo guide made the experience very fun while watching over us to make sure everyone came through it safely. Wish we could have had a little time on the beach area. At the end of the water tour they lead you into a maze of shops, where every one of them want you to buy their goods. No problem mon, just keep your eyes on the finish line and be polite.

Despite calling to confirm our reservations the day prior, company failed to pick us up from our hotel. Had to take a bus to another hotel to get picked up. Most shops were closed for the holiday. Only got to shop at one shop which was ridiculously overpriced! Paid $40 for rum that was $9 at airport

The only mistake I made when booking this tour, was booking on a Wensday when the cruise ships were docked and taking the same tour! The tour guides at the falls we awesome and made sure everyone had a great time. Do not take an iPhone for pictures because you will get wet! Definitely take a water camera and water shoes for maximum fun!

I went on the Dunn's River Falls half-day (no shopping) tour and it was fun with no problems. The tour operator has one of the newest fleets of vehicles on the island -- the bus that picked us up was impeccably clean and comfortable. The tour started with picking up guests from the various hotels -- the whole pick up process lasted about 45 minutes. The drive to Dunn's River from Montego Bay took another 1.5 hours with a pitstop in the middle as well as a stop to buy/rent water shoes prior to entering the falls. If you have your own water shoes, or good sport sandals (good tread, toe protection like a Keen sandal), then you are good for the Dunn's River hike. The hike up the water fall itself was pretty easy for most people. The tour includes a guide, though I found the human chain to be a little more cumbersome than helpful, but the people that were holding onto me for dear life probably found it helpful. The hike itself takes about 1 hour. After the hike, there are knickknacks for sale in a souvenir village, though they are pricier than in other places. Overall, an excellent experience that I would recommend to others.

Joe, our driver, was the very best of this trip! Knowledgeable, fun and friendly guy always eager to help out including negotiating if needed. The Dunn's River Fall was our favorite part of the trip. They charge $40 for the CD video of your adventure, but after watching I don't think it was worth it. Shopping was a blast! I recommend this trip and I highly recommend asking for Joe as your driver!

Dunns River was amazing! Definitely worth the trip. We opted for the full day trip which included shopping in Ocho Rios. We were able to purchase most all of our souvenirs here, including rum, for prices lower than most of the places that we had been. We also received discounts because of the tour.

This was my second time visiting Dunns River Falls. The bus ride was extremely comfortable and the guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Of course, the falls was and still is breathtaking. I would recommend Viator to anyone going to Montego Bay. The tour operator provided excellent service. The price of the tour was the cheapest around as well.

The tour would have been much better if the shopping was in town...not some cruise ship drop off mall!.We were expecting to go into the proper town of Ochos Rios not some commercial mall!!
