Small-Group Moscow City Walking Tour

Moscow, Russian Federation

See the stand-out sights of Moscow’s Red Square, Nikolskaya Street and Alexandrovsky Garden on a 2-hour small-group walking tour! While listening to captivating commentary about the Russian capital, scout out some of Moscow’s top attractions to learn about their history and take photos. See St Basil’s Cathedral, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Tomb and the Bolshoi Theatre alongside other lesser-known but equally laudable landmarks.

Numbers are limited to 10 on this small-group tour ensuring personalized attention from a guide.

Meet your guide near the Bolshoi Theater in central Moscow, and then set off with your small group to explore the Russian capital. As you walk, listen to tales of the history, architecture, culture and politics that make Moscow the hotbed of intrigue that it is today.

While enjoying the entertaining commentary, discover a collection of Moscow’s finest attractions and historical landmarks. Stroll through Red Square, the beautiful plaza that represents the heart of the city, and hear of Soviet parades and protests that have taken place there over the years. The candy-colored domes of St Basil’s Cathedral stand out as you enter Red Square, so wander over to the extravagant landmark for a close-up view.

As much a city icon as the Kremlin, the cathedral was built to wow and its attention-grabbing architecture and design make for unforgettable photos. Pose against St Basil’s colorful façade, and then continue through Red Square to Lenin’s Tomb, the final resting place of Russia’s (arguably) most radical communist leader.

Pass the State History Museum, where Stone Age-era Russian artifacts are housed, and see one of the country’s first department stores: GUM. Amble out of Red Square and make your way along Nikolskaya Street, admiring its chic boutiques and stately-looking buildings, and stop for photos outside the famous Bolshoi Theatre, a site synonymous with ballet, theater and scandal.

Continue with a walk through Alexandrovsky Garden to see the Kremlin’s walls and towers, and visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where the Changing of the Guard Ceremony takes place. Throw a coin in the garden’s ruined grotto for luck while hearing stories of the Kremlin: the symbol of the Russian state and one of the world’s most fascinating architectural complexes.

After two hours exploring the city, work your way back to the start point and bid your guide goodbye as your tour finishes.

Our guide, Lydia, was a jewel !!!!! We were there in September and there was a constant drizzle on the day of our tour. While some may have canceled a walking tour that was just 2 people.....she showed up fashionably dressed with an umbrella to share with us. She gave us a full, amazing tour of the backstreets of the city which began with a quick tour inside of the Metropol. We enjoyed her company so much, we invited her to join us for lunch our treat so we could get to know as much about life in Moscow as we learned about Moscow from her tour. Another must see when in Moscow!

Although the guide (Arcady) was late so everybody was waiting, the walk and all his stories were really worthwhile!

Great introductory tour to Moscow's city centre. The guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the building architecture. She also gave suggestions about further sites to visit in the afternoon.

This ended up being a one-on-one private tour and I learned a lot. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. The tour guide was older and pretty serious, so not very cheery or upbeat, and didn't seem to relate anything to me personally when I would make comments. Tour was ok but I would have preferred more interaction since it was just the two of us. But she did add an extra tour through St. Basil's Cathedral and got us in around the line, which she didn't have to do and was not part of the tour I paid separate for entrance.

Great introduction to Moscow. This was out first morning haveing arrived late into Moscow - so this was a wonderful orientation to the city. We covered quite a distance but had repeated stops to learn about the historical significance of the buildings. Some great anecdotes of life in Russia.

This is a very good tour if you have a couple of hours to learn about the main sights in Moscow. The guide had excellent knowledge about all the building and the history. The tour was very informative and the walk was at a very leisurely pace. I definitely recommend this.

Very knowledgeable guide. Took me for a great walk around. Make sure you have some time after the tour to stroll around on your own to reflect on things and let it all sink in....!

I highly recommend this tour which was thoroughly enjoyed by our family of four. Our tour guide's name was Arkady who was extremely well-educated and seemed to possess sophisticated knowledge of Russian history and current economics. Arkady was very attentive and went well over the two hours allotted to our tour time. We could not have found all the famous churches and streets, and gleaned such rich insight into the incredible history of Moscow without the assistance of our amazing tour guide.

This tour was 10 out of 10. Our tour leader was Arkady who has been conducting tours for decades ... his English is superb and his knowledge of Russian history is outstanding. We saw and learned so much more doing this tour than what we could have seen on our own. Most tourists are only a short time in Russia my advice is don't waste any time here and take a tour. Its an investment!

This was a completely fantastic tour. Just the right duration, hugely informative and interesting, our guide knew everything and was happy to answer questions. The walking pace was good and not rushed, for an overview of Moscow, I would definitely recommend it.

Our guide, Irena, was brilliant. There were only three of us on the tour in total and I really felt that we got a good taste of Moscow and the main sights - plus some useful local insider knowledge on where to eat and where to find free toilets! She tailored the last part of the tour for us - giving us some options on places we could visit and also took us to a local cafe and helped us order some traditional Russian dishes for lunch.

My walking tour was immensely interesting and the guide was knowledgeable and thorough in her commentary. I was leaving Moscow that day and did not have time to pursue independent tours of some of the sites seen on the walking tour but the guides recommendations and tips for best times to visit sites would have been invaluable should I have been able to stay longer in the city.

Excellent tour! So I had as my tour guide Arkadiy, this middle aged Russian who is practically like a walking textbook of Russia. I was the only one on the tour that day and Arkadiy shared with me a lot about how life was like back in the Soviet days. Very friendly and an excellent tour guide.

What an amazing tour! We were so surprised that it was just us two on the tour. The guide was friendly, very knowledgeable, very experienced in the tourist industry. We saw places we would never had found and was a great start to our wonderful holiday. The guide took our photograph which is a bonus with only two people travelling together. We were very grateful for his expertise and would recommend this company and this tour especially if it is your first time to Moscow. Very easy to book online.

Very good tour. We were surprised as nobody else had booked this tour that day, and we had a private tour on a car with a very nice guide Tatiana, and a skilled driver. We asked them to leave us at the Tretyakov gallery at the end of the tour and they kindly accepted. We made stops at certain points so that we were able to take pictures.

We got there right on time, but a couple arrived almost 30 minutes late. Not sure if this was the cause of the rest of the tour being rushed, but that was how it felt. We passed a lot of great sites but that was just it -- we passed by them. Only stopped at 3-4 sites to take photos for about 5 minutes.

Not really worth your time. Driving around with only 2 photo shoot stops(5 min). Hop on Hop off is much better

The tour guide was satisfactory in pointing out the sights. In driving past, there was often only time to say: on the right we have x; on the left we have y. But the guide could have done more to engage with us and on the photo stops to give us a bit more information and historical detail of the buildings and location. _br/_ Nevertheless, reasonably priced for a Moscow tour and a good way to get an overview of central Moscow.

The guide was really boring, could barely hear and understand what she was saying, reading some textbook info instead of adding personal touch to the tour. The bus was small and not comfortable. People where waiting for the guide, she was late. The tour was overbooked, so several tourists were left outside (it was raining). Worst tour. Needs a lot of improvement.

Review by:   Beverley R,    August 2012 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
This could have been a total disaster. The directions given for finding the tour bus were so unclear that we spent an unhappy 20 minutes running round a square full of buses trying - and failing - to find ours. It was sheer luck that we eventually found the right one, almost 10 minutes after its scheduled departure. And then we wished we hadn't found it as the guide was an unpleasant woman who seemed to hate her job, and the bus was old and battered._br/_ This was our only disappointment with Viator, and we couldn't possibly recommend this tour to anyone.

This tour was a joke. Out of the 13 advertised stops we only had 5 of them. The guide was rude and it was like a formula 1 tour through Moscow. Only 1 or 2 minutes at each stop. We had to book a new Moscow tour the next day in our hotel to see the sites. Very, very dissapointed in this tour. Avoid!

Good introduction to Moscow - gave us an idea of where to go back to. Not long enough stops for photo opportunities though, and we didn't see Gorky Park,, which was on the list.

The worst tour ever, low quality of the transportation, driver was making comments to the tourist believing we don't speak Russian, The guide was absent minded, there was no good view to take pictures, city story was poorly presented. Never do this tour!
