Born Free, Adamson's Museum and Lake Naivasha Day Tour from Nairobi

Once a holiday home and later to be a retirement home for the Adamsons, Elsamere remains a unique destination in Naivasha. Re-kindle the memories of Born Free by watching the documentary, The Joy Adamson Story and visiting the museum.Today the Elsa Conservation Trust continues its life long commitment to wildlife conservation operating a wildlife retreat and an education centre at the Adamson’s former home at Elsamere on the shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya’s Rift Valley.

7am is the departure time from your Nairobi hotel to the Lake Naivasha. On the way you will see the Great Rift Valley and see spectacular part views of the corridor of the Rift Valley in Kenya. 

Depending on which tour option one takes, one can take a boat trip to Crescent Island for about 1 hour, then come back in time for buffet lunch at Elsamere Gardens. Watch Joy Adamson story- 40mins.(this ia video about Joy Adamson work, their experience with the lioness Elsa and the consequent release of the movie Born Free). Visit the museum, which houses memorabilia from the movie Born Free, Joys prints of tribal paintings and other books they wrote translated to different languages, photographs and some of the awards they won for their conservation efforts. Enjoy High Tea - a tea or coffee with big variety of cakes and biscuits before departing for Nairobi.

Alternative Tour Option

Arrive at Elsamere by 9.00 am and have a brief introduction of Elsamere and its work, visit to a flower farm for approximately an hour.Come back for a boat ride at Elsamere for an hour.  Have lunch at the Elsamere Gardens, Visit Joy Adamson museum - 15 mins.Watch Joy Adamson story- 40mins. Visit the museum. (This houses memorabilia from Movie Born Free, Joys prints of  Tribal paintings and other books they wrote and translated to different languages, photographs and some of the awards they won for their conservation efforts).

This is a fascinating insight to the lives of the pioneering couple who brought the plight of wildlife in Africa to a worldwide audience.
