I find the Hop on Hop Off bus experiences are the way to see a new city. We chose the two day pass and it was very interesting. We did, however, have several guides that were difficult to understand.

It's hard to give this one rating as our tour consisted of several buses/drivers. The night tour was a huge disappointment. So of the guides talk was helpful, but overall tour was very boring. Night Tour gets a C-_br/_ The Uptown tour was much better, guide was engaging and interesting and clearly knew the area and history. Uptown gets an A-_br/_ The Downtown Tour was awful! Pre-recorded audio tour on the bus, grumpy and impatient drivers. Downtown Tour gets a D. We had been on several good bus and trolley tours prior to this one, and this one was a huge disappointment.

Too much New York traffic made this tour too long and the time between stops was too slow because of the traffic.

Exceeded our expectations! It took us past all of the major sites and the host was delightful and definitely in charge on the bus!

Lack of bus frequency. Even the guide complained to his superiors. Great way to get around NYC.

Unfortunately - Greyline no longer owns this business and the quality and service is not good. Buses are older and not clean. Many have no canopy and in inclement weather this is awful. The audio system does not always work and the information on the commentary is dated by at least 5 years. Staff do their best best but I would bool BigBus - looked like a much better company.

We loved the day and the night tours. The day one included a guide who was interesting to listen to. The night tour has a recording which was not quite linked so we were being told about things we had passed! I still give this five stars as It is great value and includes free entry to a couple of attractions .

This is a MUST to get around NY...not only does it take you to destinations that most visitors wants to see....but you also get to see a lot that you would otherwise miss. You can buy different packages to match your trip duration and the bus stops are well marked and at key visitor destinations. Easy Peasy!

I've taken this tour three times and it is a great way to learn about the history and exciting activities in NYC, especially when you do not have a car to travel the city on your own. The buses also are punctual and the guides welcome questions and provide great tips about where to visit and eat.

We took the tour during Christmas and the holiday night tour was awesome! Seeing NYC lit with Christmas lights while learning about its great history was amazing. I've also taken each part of the tour outside of the holidays at least three times, and it was great and worth the money each time.

I must say the first bus we got on for the downtown tour and the Brooklyn tour were great! The tour guides did a fantastic job. The other buses we got on not so much. We also had to wait in the freezing cold for a long time because two buses that came by were full. They need more buses.

Review by:   janebenton1,    March 2018 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
It was very cold the few days we were in NYC. The optimal place to sit is on the top floor towards the front, where it is partially covered, which made it warmer. The second day was very windy and the bus we loaded didn't have a partially covered top so we rode downstairs. The view from the bottom section is poor, at best because you're lower to the ground, but also due to the advertising sleeves on the bus. We enjoyed the downtown tour more than we enjoyed the uptown tour. Also, while the headphones are a great idea, the guy on the first day talked to fast, and the sound system so poor, it was hard to understand. It is a great way to see the city, but there are improvements that can be made to improve it.

Not worth the money . Not clear where you can hop on/off . Buses are dated. The tour guide kept talking away from mic so we couldnt here what he was saying . Night tour dudnt stop on bridge to let you take photos as described in listing .definitely not worth the money.

Great way of seeing all the sights. The 72 hour ticket included entrance to Gullivers gate - miniature world and this was well worth a visit.

Review by:   Mlester62,    December 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
We had to wait an hour at the Empire State Building to turn our voucher in to get our ticket. They should have a separate line for the people that bought their pass on line. They did not give us accurate information and after walking to the water to pick up the ferry we were told it no longer tops at this dock and had to take a taxi to get to the right dock. We were told we could use a voucher for the carriage ride and after getting to New York found out they no longer had a contract and we could not use it for the carriage ride in Central Park. New York was wonderful but I would rethink this pass.

There is so much to see from the top of the bus! The amazing architecture and designs on the older buildings are things you can't really see from the street! I loved being able to hop on and off to spend time at different sites along the way. However, when the traffic is terrible, you don't get very far very fast. I got some great pictures from the top of the bus!

Once I was able to actually get to the tour it was very good. The problem is that the Gray Line is not explicit with their directions. I had a terrible time finding where to exchange our vouchers for tickets. Directions to the place did not exist. I had to stop many bus personnel to find the place to exchange vouchers for tickets. This wasted a lot of time and we missed connections. There should be a better way to explain how to do this.

Constantly having trouble with ear pieces. Not just us, but everyone. And when working could not understand, either heavy accent or talking too fast.

Review by:   akseavo,    November 2017 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
The tour itself isn't bad, but it can be a little mundane. Make sure your first port of call is the Grey line visitor center to get your passes, as the vouchers do not get you on the tour. We did pay for skip the line, but there was no process in place that we could see that allowed for our priority as VIP passengers, no one asked if there were any skip the line passengers and we had to go up and tell the agents we had the VIP passes. Also we were also not able to get passed the none skip the line passengers as we had expected we just had to queue like everyone else to get on the bus, so don't waist your money on skip the line.

Purchased a 3 day package so decided to take a Sunday night tour. The bus guide was not very good. The tour route only involved Manhattan and back. No Brooklyn, Queens, etc.

Review by:   Wayne W,    November 2017 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
This was a great way to get around to see the city and easy to do but we paid extra for skip the line up tickets and I would not recommend buying the skip the line up part as there were virtually no line ups and there were no designated spots to skip a line up anyways. We went at the end of October which is probably slow season but when I asked the driver he said just go in front of everyone in line, which I think my cause a few very negative reactions from the other people. Buy the pass its a great way to get to see the city, just pass on the extra skip the line option.

Best city tour experience ever. Hop on Off is the best way to visit the city without the scary taxi rides. Will do it again!!

Review by:   steve.deeley,    November 2017 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
Good value for money particularly including the Hop On. Hop Off, The Night Tour and River/Cruise. This is obviously dependant on the traffic, so best plan your itinerary prior to your day. This will help to ensure you cover the attractions you what to. The tour guides overall were very good.

Review by:   EmmaW,    November 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The tour guides were hit and miss. The first one was good but the next two were hard to understand and very boring ended up finding a channel with a pre-recorded tour instead.

My daughter and I had the VIP pass. It was worth the price. We really enjoyed learning the history of Central Park and Harlem. My daughter specifically enjoyed seeing sites from her favorite tv shows

Since we only had 4 days in NYC, Hop-on / Hop-off was the way to go. We started with the Night Tour to Brooklyn. What a view! Remember to take a warm jacket at night it's cold up there on top! Took the Uptown Tour on a very rainy Sunday. Didn't see much from the inside of the bus, but the recording gave us historical information about the area. We used the Downtown Tour several times to go to: Pier 78 and the Harbor Cruise, Ground Zero, Irish Famine Memorial, Pier 16 ... We feel like we know 47th Street like the back of our hands! That's where we went to hop-on the bus. The men at the stops were helpful and friendly the drivers were superb, so patient in the NY traffic! NYC certainly is a city that never sleeps, even though we were in bed by 8:30 p.m.!

It was okay. Some tour guides were fabulous, a couple so-so. One bus only had the recorded commentary. The night tour was great, but again only the recorded commentary. We had a ticket for 3 days and made good use of it to get around. Staff were generally very helpful. MUCH better than the Big Bus Tour, which was badly organised, with rude staff, which we used on our first day as part of our New York Pass. I really cant understand why this and other companies only allow passengers to complete one loop in New York. Be aware of this. For us it meant that we couldnt board the bus near our hotel stop 17 and had to walk some distance to stop 1 so that we could complete a loop. Only place in the world that this seems to happen. Ive used hop on hop offs all over the world and this tour stacked up reasonably well - New York is a crazy place and any bus tour faces an uphill battle.

Review by:   Kevin L,    October 2017 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
While the tour itself was 'OK', I think we made more of the tour providing access to various locations than the tour itself, but it was good. The downside that was very disappointing is that the vouchers noted that we could just turn up at an appropriate bus stop and get on a bus - not to be- if you get a 72 hour ticket, their scanners don't work on it. We wasted a morning queueing in the grey line bus station which tarnished our overall view of the bus tour experience. With 5 days in NY, losing half a day in the bus station was not funny.

Review by:   Carol B,    October 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Nice extras that come with it but the buses don't come very often. You must go to their ticket office to get your tickets not like what it says on my order printout that just present it to any person at a bus stop. Not true! Also the staff gives out a lot of miss information. We had to walk 2 miles because they let us off at the wrong stop. The buses were dirty and not well kept. The driver didn't even pick up the trash that was on the floor! I would recommend the BiG BUS instead! 3 of their buses came for everyone of the City Sightseeing ones. Everyone we talked to while waiting said they wished they had purchased the Big Bus also!

For the most part this was good however I found it not to be efficient because you had to go to a ticket office to get your pass, the bus will not except the voucher given by Viator. In addition to that I bought a multi-day pass only to find out the second day was a Jewish holiday and the vendor was not operating that day. Yes they gave me the next day but I wasn't going to be there so I couldn't use it. The bad part was the other companies were running on that holiday.

Review by:   Mike F,    October 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Not Viators fault that it was a cold rainy day, but this tour isnt much fun on a cold rainy day. The transition from the bus to the boat ride was poor. Its quite a walk and the path is not obvious. The staff wasnt very helpful. We eventually found it but were pretty cranky by then.
