Pizza Walking Tour of Manhattan

New York City, United States of America

Take a guided walking tour in New York City and taste pizza at three of Manhattan’s top pizzerias along the way! Sample the pizzas of Little Italy and lower Manhattan on the Crosstown Pizza Tour. Or head to Greenwich Village to see what tasty pies they offer on the North Village or South Village Pizza Tour. Or opt for the Lower East Side Pizza Tour for a delicious journey through the eclectic neighborhood. Spend time with the owners of each pizzeria that you visit. Learn about the different types of pizza that each venue makes, hear how pizza has changed over the years and enjoy a slice at each to determine your favorite!

New York City is a hub for fantastic pizza, so how to choose where to go? On a pizza walking tour, of course! Enjoy slices of pizza from three local pizzerias and learn a little history while you walk through historical Manhattan neighborhoods such as Little Italy, Greenwich Village and the Lower East Side. Your pizza enthusiast guide has the insider information on where to go and what to order, so relax and enjoy an afternoon in New York! Receive a pocket pizza journal as well!

Crosstown Pizza Walking Tour (Little Italy and Greenwich Village)
Visit Manhattan’s famous Little Italy, which the majority of Italian immigrants called home in the early 1900s. See the streets that once overflowed with peddlers and fruit carts and where a peasants’ meal called ‘pizza’ made its debut in America. Visit America’s oldest pizzeria, and admire the sights of these two lovely neighborhoods as you walk.

Greenwich Village Pizza Walking Tour (North Village or South Village)
Discover the evolution of pizza from its humble origins in Southern Italy to its cheesy transformation in America’s industrial cities. This Manhattan district was once a thriving Little Italy and is currently in the middle of a resurgence, with new shops being opened by recent Italian immigrants. Visit pizzerias that each specialize in a different type of pizza – types that symbolize its development from a lowly Neapolitan street food to a celebrated American staple.

Lower East Side Pizza Walking Tour (Lower East Side of Manhattan)
If you love pizza, welcome to one of the most pizza-dense neighborhoods, the Lower East Side. Everything from classic pizza-by-the-slice, old-fashioned Neapolitan fare to creative spins on this eponymous dish, this neighborhood has it all. Taste and discover its rich history. Learn about ancient pizza toppings and dough stretching techniques and compare the baking patterns of three different pizza ovens. This tour is for true pizza aficionados.

On your tour, you'll visit three of the following pizzerias:
Lombardi’s, Joe’s Pizza, Louie & Ernie’s, Rizzo’s, Keste, Nunzio’s, Sam’s Restaurant, John’s of Bleecker St, Best Pizza, Patsy’s, Totonno’s, Luzzo’s, Arturo’s, Sac’s Place, NY Pizza Suprema, Pizza Roma, J&V Pizzeria, Ben’s of Soho, Zero Otto Nove, Pizza Box, Rose & Joe’s Italian Bakery, Parisi Bakery, Pugsley’s, Pala, Via Tribunali, Williamsburg Pizza or Two Boots

Krista did an amazing job explaining the different styles of pizza we experienced. The group was able to experience the creation of the pizza and learn about the different ingredients that made each pizzeria unique. The group had time to enjoy a drink if one is wanted at the establishments. Krista offered recommendations after the tour of other pizzerias and even recommended a cool place to get a drink after the tour. Definitely book this experience if you are a pizza lover. The tour I attended is the Lower East Side/East Village tour Sunday at 4:30PM

Miriam the tour guide was a pizza enthusiast, therefore a great host. We were given information on the origin of pizza and the different types of ovens used which give different base tastes. Went to three different venues and were given pizza slices at each which were yummy. Well worth doing this tour.

Our pizza tour was great, Very interesting and informative. Our tour guide was more than knowledgeable about kinds of pizzas, the processes of making them ,the ingredients and where in the city to eat the best types of pizza. She was also funny and obviously enjoys guiding pizza tours. All of the pizzas were delicious, and you get plenty. The people cooking at the pizza shops were nice and generous. A really fun and fulfilling tour for New Yorkers and tourists.

This has to be one of the best tours around. Our guide Joe was amazing - what he doesn't know about pizza isn't worth knowing!! We did the tour in 2015 and were so impressed when we were back in NYC this year it was one of the first things we booked to do. I can't recommend it enough!

It was fun and interesting until we arrived at our last pizza taste. It was just a pizza joint with very few places to sit down and one of us had to stand the entire time. Most people in our group of around 10 were not able to sit. It was so noisy, we couldnt hear what our tour guide pizza expert had to say. Very disappointing. In order to get a drink, we had to wait in line like other customers.

We had so much fun on this tour, and our tour guide, Ted, was very knowledgeable and funny :- We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. All 3 pizza stops were unique, so it was a great experience for us. Pizza slices were large, so we were very full at the end of the tour.

One of the best tours ever. I am in California weeks and weeks later and still thinking about that darn pizza. Our tour guide was fabulous, with lots of history and knowledge. The walking was very comfortable and at a good pace. The pizza was filling and excellent. I loved that we played little history rememberance games to win an extra piece of pizza. I thought it was a nice touch that we received little booklets to write and rate our pizza at all the famous places that we visited. If you love pizza you should not miss this tour.

Alexis, our pizza tour guide was great! He was knowledgeable, funny, and friendly. The tour itself was a lot of fun too. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting New York. I wish we had done it earlier in our trip, because Alexis gave us recommendations for other pizza restaurants we should try, but we didn't have enough time to visit them. Oh well. We got a lot of delicious pizza on this tour!

My husband and I spent 5 amazing days in New York City. We took in several tours and intentionally saved this one for our final day because, quite honestly, it was the tour that excited us most. The only preconceived notion that I came into the tour with is I am going to eat delicious pizza. Thankfully, I did, in fact, eat delicious pizza which is the sole reason I rated the tour as high as I did. Otherwise, the execution of this tour left A LOT to be desired. Two hours into the three-hour tour, we had only eaten one slice of pizza. I overheard a disgruntled fellow tour participant telling his girlfriend how he would prefer less talking and more eating. My husband and I quietly concurred. For those of you who count steps, you will not be disappointed. There was plenty of walking which I love, but we walked far more than we ate. Also, beverages are NOT included in the 40/person tour price nor are toppings of any kind. Cheese pizza. The end. The idea of feeding tour participants fresh-from-the-oven pizza and not providing drinks is somewhat absurd. Also, we were only allowed to dine in the 1st of the 3 pizza venues we visited. To be fair, one of the venues we visited was walk-up only but the 3rd was simply amazing inside with quirky, graffiti-riddled benches and NYC pizzeria charm. I only found this out by ignoring the tour guide's requests for us to stand outside of the building insisting that the restaurant was too small inside. For the record, the restaurant had an abundance of open booths. It would have been wonderful to eat inside of that pizzeria. In summation, the pizza was great...the tour, not so much. It is nothing special and definitely lacks secret sauce of any kind. My suggestion is to carve out a day to stroll through Manhattan hitting all of the prominent pizzerias from a relatively basic Google search. For the 40/person that this tour costs, you can do it at your own pace, buy toppings and soda, and have PLENTY of money left over for gelato.

Great tour! Our guide was so very knowledgable and open to all questions. We visited 3 pizza places, and had 5 slices of pizza. The first stop offered 2 types of neapolitan pizza the second stop offered a large slice of New York pizza and the final stop offered 2 types of Sicilian pizza. Fabulous! I can't imagine any pizza lover who would not enjoy this tour.
