Cesky Krumlov Day Trip from Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

If you love castles, you won't want to miss Cesky Krumlov's World Heritage-listed castle! Known as 'the Pearl of the Renaissance', the State Castle of Cesky Krumlov is one of the most important historic sites in Central Europe. You'll travel by coach from Prague through the beautiful south Bohemian countryside passing picturesque villages and ponds. The whole town of Cesky Krumlov is on the UNESCO Heritage list, comprising 300 historic houses, the castle and chateau.

The town's fairytale red-roofed castle is surrounded by landscaped gardens, and features grand courtyards, halls and furnishings. The castle's development over the 14th to 19th centuries has been well preserved, both in layout and architectural detail. The mighty castle complex stands on a rock promontory sculpted by the Vltava River, dominating the attractive medieval town below.

Together with the magnificent Church of St. Vitus, the castle is a unique feature of the entire region. The town of Cesky Krumlov is situated in a valley surrounded by the Blansko Forest to the north and the undulating foothills of Sumava to the south and west.

The town of Cesky Krumlov is well-worth visiting. The views in and around the city are beautiful and it's fun to see the countryside along the way. When I booked this tour, I wasn't really sure which tour company I was being placed with. It turned out to be Martin tours. The mini-bus was fine and about what I expected. However, I didn't feel the guide added a whole lot to the experience. I don't believe he ever introduced himself. He gave quite a bit of commentary during the drive, but we didn't understand most of it. He spoke quite quickly and with with a cadence that made it difficult to follow. Likewise, when walking around the town, it felt more that he was reciting a script than trying to engage us. When we returned to Prague, he got off the bus, went over to the driver's window and chatted with him instead of standing outside to say good-bye to the guests. I would suggest this tour only for the transportation to Cesky, if you don't have another way to get there. 2 stars apparently means OK, but it could've been better. I'd say that's exactly right.

Cesky Krumlov is lovely, but not with this tour company Prague City Tours, Martin Tours. They packed 14 people into a van that had no suspension, and was so old the seats were sprung. The seats were very narrow, and had no leg room at all. They should be ashamed to treat adult customers this badly. My complaints to the tour guide were greeted with eye rolling, as if I expected too much. I did expect an air conditioned BUS as per my tour outline, not a old van. We were 2 hours each way in this terrible transportation. We felt every bump on the road, and were crammed in like sardines. Also, the driver insisted on the first two seats behind him being kept clear for his belongings. I would like my money back, as this tour was not as advertised, We were not given transport in a comfortable air conditioned bus, but a old, sprung out van. This company should not be allowed to treat customers in this manner. If in Prague, avoid Prague City Tours and Martin tours. Premiant tours gave us good value.

The town is beautiful and is worth the trip, our tour guide was responsible. however, he did not speak good English, sometimes it is hard to understand him.

I love Czech Republic so when I saw this town popping up all over social media, I knew I had to go back to check it out. Cesky Krumlov is a quaint little town with so much history to it. Although the tour guide, the views, and the whole transportation services were great, I do wish we had more time exploring the tiny alleyways together. We were given a lot of leisurely time in the main town centre but some of us felt this time could have been cut shorter as the area is quite small. All in all, it was a great day trip outside of the city.

We did this tour in April. It is a beautiful quaint village setting straight out of a Hans Christian Anderson fairytale! Our guide, while cordial, professional, extremely knowledgeable and informative was a bit intimating given her abrupt manner. Overall we enjoyed seeing this beautiful place. Be prepared for a long day in a bus comfortable bus- note: one comfort stop there and NO stops back and lots of walking including some uphill work.

Fine. It was a rainy day and very difficult to walk around. The pace was too fast for elderly people or those who needed to have a normal walking spped.

It was a disappointing day trip to Cesky Krumlov and the overall experience wasn't as described in the website. The tour guide we travelled with was boring and monotonous making us even more drowsy during the nearly 3 hours bus ride, does not give toilet breaks, impatient, rude and fierce. I signed up for an English speaking tour and instead it was a mixed tour with Spanish folks and this female guide was not fluent in English and was busy switching between Spanish and English during the journey. As a tour guide, it is basic requirement to make passengers feel comfortable and instead the bus ride was an interrogation session questioning if we visited the key attractions in Prague and knew the history etc...Because of her monotonous tone, many of us fell asleep during the ride and of course it triggered her unhappiness over this and she stopped talking. For some who signed up for this day trip it is likely to be their first or second day in Prague and how is it possible for these folks to cover key attractions within short span of time???? Instead of being patient and sharing the facts/history, she showed signs of impatience with frustrations written all over her face. In my personal point of view, it is not worth signing up for this day trip. It simply spoils your day and mood to Cesky Krumlov!

This tour is worth every penny - even if you are traveling when the Castle is closed. Our knowledgeable tour guide made our trip fun and enjoyable while learning about the history of Cesky Krumluv. Lunch, especially the soup, was amazing! We spent the free time we had after lunch to climb the bell tower. It cost a few dollars but had an amazing view of the town.

Helen was our tour guide and did an amazing job. She has so much knowledge about the city and Prague, very imformative. Cesky Krumlov is a beautiful, fairy tale city. Well worth the trip.

A lovely trip to a fairytale town! The guide was great and really catered to everyone in the group. Cesky Krumlov is breathtaking - I would love to see inside the castle which opens in April. Nice lunch was included.

We enjoyed our tour very much. Our guide was very informative. Cesky Krumlov did not disappoint. Beautiful buildings. We visited the wax museum whilst there which was a treat. The only thing we found was there was a long time between finishing lunch and meeting up again to head back to Prague, 3 hrs would be long enough to see all the sights. But apart from that it was a most enjoyable day.

Well worth the bus ride there and back , very pretty in winter with all the snow and festive decorations. The tour gives you ample time to wander all the streets and look in the shops and sample the local beers. Not crowded in winter but would imagine it to be very crowded in summer.

The guide was largely going through the motions of his job giving the bare minimum of information. The tour coach was rather basic, uncomfortable seats and no reading lights.

I really enjoyed Cesky Krumlov. It was so pretty! But you spend so much time going there and back and they don't give you a lot of time to enjoy the area. We had time to each lunch and go to a couple stores and that was it. Also, its a LONG tour and they will yell at you if you try to bring food or drinks on the bus. You even stop for food and drinks, but they won't let you bring it on. You are gone the majority of the day, and you need snacks and drinks, The bus did have wifi, which was nice.

What a beautiful place!! I do not think one can describe the beauty of this place in words. It needs to be experienced. We had a wonderful tour with our tour guide Sera and some amazing co-travellers. Though the castle rooms were closed to tourists we were there in the first week of November and the castle tour closes from 31 October, we thoroughly enjoyed walking in the castle and the beautiful city. We definitely wish to go back and spend some time there in the near future.

Wonderful day trip outside of Prague. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. She shared a lot of great information about Prague as we drove in and out of the city, as well as the Czech Republic, and Cesky Krumlov. The tour bus was quite comfortable, even for a long ride.

We really enjoyed our trip. The tour guide was very informative, spoke great English, and was very patient with some folks who kept lagging. I recommend you go before November 1st, because the castle at Cesky Krumlov is closed in the winter we went November 2. The drive is long, but gives you an opportunity to see the area outside of Prague - the vegetation, farmlands, small towns in the distance.

It was ok, main benefit part of it is just having no headache about how to get to Krumlov and Back to Prague.

Cesky Krumlov was spectacular, very beautiful. We had 7 booked for this tour, we loved the town but felt we did not have enough information from our tour guide, she was happy for us to have a lot of free time which was nice but what's the point of paying for the tour. If I had known this I would have arranged a trip by train and explored on our own. Would highly recommend you visit Cesky Krumlov.

The scenery during the drive was nice and our tour guide was very thorough and knowledgeable. Unfortunately we were on a multi-lingual tour so we got to hear the entire tour twice which got a little old by the end of the trip. Cesky Krumlov is very beautiful. The castle tour was amazing. We had a decent amount of free time and had an amazing lunch by the river.

We loved Cesky Krumlov! This trip was great and our guide was outstanding. She as very well informed and provided lots of background information. Cesky Krumlov was a delight - well worth the effort to get there. We didn't want to rent a car or try to get there by public transport, so this trip was a perfect solution. Highly recommend it!_br/_ .

This trip was good but after getting under way I realized I could have just booked a train or bus direct because all I did was pay this company to do the same thing. Once we got there we were just turned loose on our own for 2 and 1/2 hours and told to meet back at the castle for the castle tour. The castle was great and the town was beautiful and picturesque. I highly recommend going but since it is all done on your own I would book my own transportation and skip the time lost assembling for the drive to and from the town.

A great trip--can be done from Prague or via a river cruise on Reine/Danube--hopefully a nice sunny day like we had--take your bathers and jump in a canoe and go down the rapids--a very quaint place--highly recommend

Was unfortunately extremely disappointed in this tour, especially since it was one we were looking forwards to the most. Through no fault of the tour company or our guide, it was a let down. Cesky Krumlov was overrun with tourist. We have been on many day trips and most try to coordinate with each other for staggered arrivals and departures and there was no such planning here. It was overly crowded and we found most tourists excessively rude and pushy. The town itself is sooo cute and I am sure quite charming if given the chance to view without 100s of other people stepping in front of you and into your photos. The castle tour was quite interesting, but did not make up for the day. We did enjoy walking around the castle grounds, as it was less crowded. I wouldn't recommend this unless it is an absolute bucket list for you.

Cesky Krumlov is such a beautiful city. I highly recommend going there. Our tour guide was a little unorganized, and at times you couldn't even hear her talk but other than that it was great! I recommend exploring as much of the small town while you are there. It's amazing what you will find.

Great little excursion while in Prague for five days. Wonderful views of the castle and the small town of Cesky Krumlov along the river. It's cute and was worth the trip out. Our tour guide was an older woman who knows quite a bit about the area and provided loads of info for us to listen to during drives and our walk around the town. However, I like more enthusiasm in my tour guides and I was not feeling the energy. Other than that, you'll enjoy the trip because you'll definitely make new friends along the ride!

We traveled south via motor coach through beautiful countryside to Cesky Krumlov. Comfortable travel, knowledgeable and professional guide. Cesky Krumlov itself is breathtaking! A well-preserved, picturesque storybookland with rich history, a castle, the Vltava River and all. The tour of the castle was delightful and educational. Lunch was enjoyed riverside and was delicious. It was a wonderful time and we would definitely recommend visiting when in the Czech Republic.
