Glass and Brewery Day Trip from Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

Bohemian glassware and pilsner beer - it's what the Czech Republic is famous for! This day trip from Prague has something for everyone, visiting the Nizbor Bohemia glass factory and the Pilsner Urquell Brewery. The tour offers a fabulous opportunity to learn about the Czech people and their culture.

Beer has been brewed in the town of Pilsen since it was founded in 1295. However, the pilsner known around the world today is connected with the name of Pilsner Urquell, brewed in the Prazdroj brewery dating back to 1842. Brewers the world over have tried in vain to imitate the unique taste of Pilsner Urquell!

Your factory visit will show you how pilsner was brewed and drunk in the past, and how it is brewed and drunk today. You'll visit the museum's collection documenting the brewery's 150-year history, and have lunch in the brewery's restaurant U Salzmannu (included in the tour price).

The Czech Republic's most famous glass factory is situated in the small town of Nizbor on the River Berounka (a tributary of the Vltava River), around an hour's drive from Prague. The factory tour reveals the complete history of glass production in Bohemia. You will also have the opportunity to buy glass products at the glass factory, at discounted prices.

Our guide Peter was great. Had a great conversation with him while we drove to and from the brewery and glass blowing factory. The brewery tour was 1.5 hours long and pretty good for a brewery tour. Plus, straight from the cask beer sampling near the end of the tour. Peter also treated us to a great lunch in Plzen. I would recommend this tour.

This tour was great and our guide, Peter, very helpful and friendly. While we were driving to our destinations he provided us with a lot of history and background on the city. We were the most excited for the tour of the crystal factory, which we loves -- it was amazing seeing so much done by hand. But we were wowed by the brewery tour -- probably the best beer we've had during our whole trip!

We loved our glass and brewery tour. Both factories were so much fun. We bought some amazing looking glassware, vases and glass pieces at the factory at such incredible prices. Pieces that will always remind us of our trip to Prague. The beer tour was super interesting and the guide was young but super knowledgeable and very energetic- made it fun. Also met some great people on trip. Would highly recommend this tour.

Brewery guide was a lot of fun and very informative. Would have preferred on the glass factory that we were able to follow the whole process. Was shown the finished product, then on back to the blowing. Seemed a little backward

Loved this tour. Fantastic trip ....loved the glass factory and also loved the pilsna beer factory. Both we're brilliant. Our only complaint was our driver!!!!! Our guide was a beautiful lady I think her name was Hilda - an elderly Czech lady....very lovely. However our driver......a man can not call him a gentleman who only spoke Czech or Russian was not very nice....he constantly argued with our guide and travelled too fast and erratically at the most inappropriate times. Loved this tour and our guide but was not very impresses with our driver a centiment shared by others on our tour.

A day trip to Pilsen and the glass factory on the way. Our guide, Djan, went above and beyond to help with a lost passport. Our trip in Pilsen included a stop at the police station.. Very complete tour of the brewery with tasting afterward. Small old-style glass production with opportunity to buy the product. A nice meal in a restaurant near the brewery.

Excellent tour. Glass factory was good but a little disappointed as it works as a production line with little or no individual creativity. Not the tours fault . Brewery was excellent. Caves etc were great but one tasting when they make several beers a little disappointing. Overall great and worth the money.

Very informative tours. Ample time to purchase very nice and inexpensive crystal items. Brewery tour was the best brewery tours we have ever taken. Very good guide. The fresh beer was wonderful. Highly recommended.

This was an excellent day trip from Prague. Our tour guide and driver, Jan, was knowledgeable and proficient. We first visited the Ruckl crystal factory in Nizbor. It was really neat to see how these crystal pieces are made and gives one a true appreciation for the work that goes into one. At the end of the tour there was the opportunity to buy some crystal, but there was absolutely no pressure to do so. The prices appeared to be very good!! We then headed off to Pilzen. We were given a 1/2 hour to tour the town on our own before heading off to lunch. Lunch was traditional Czech food in a restaurant in Pilzen. It was very good. Then we headed over to the Pilsner brewery where we had an excellent tour. It was an excellent day tour out of Prague.

Pretty well timed and interesting tour. We were lucky on that day it was just the 7 of our party taking the tour so we had the guide and his time all for our selves. Our guide Fabrizzio was keen to explain the history of the region as we journeyed, which was quite good for a history buff like me. Our first stop was at the Ruckl crystal factory where we could observe the famous Bohemian glass-making in the traditional manner. Then off to the Pilsner Urquell brewery where the pilsner larger was invented! This was different to couple of other beer / brewery tours we have taken in the past, as this was a proper working large-scale factory, rather than something kept functioning just for tourists. Overall it was quite interesting and an enjoyable tour, where we could take our own time for a change exploring the gift-shops, enjoying lunch and taking snaps, etc. Enjoyed the lunch at a local restaurant in Pilsen too, which was part of the package.

We loved the glass blowing trip! I have a new appreciation for fine glassware. The brewery was fine. Bring along a sweater. Although it was 90 outside, the basements that are part of the tour are very cold.

We really enjoyed both tours. Truly very educational for us. Now we know why the Bohemian Chrystal is so expensive and why the Czech beer tastes so good!

The tour in itself is very interesting and good and would have gotten 5-star if it wasn't for the guide. He did give some good info, but I never have experienced a more I don't care and I would rather not be here-attitude

Review by:   June H,    April 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The problem was the guide Thomas - he really wasn't a guide as other than giving us timing repeatedly 3 or 4 times each time he didn't tell us much and when we asked questions he would just say he didn't know. There were also problems with timing - we arrived at the brewery at 1140 and it was only after he had purchased our tour tickets that he discovered the next tour wasn't until 1pm. Then he couldn't find the driver to take us for lunch - why would they not have cell phone connections? We got to the restaurant for lunch after 12 and so lunch was very rushed and then we had to wait for the driver to pick us up - again cell phone communication could have avoided this. There was also some disagreement between the driver and guide at other points - not a comfortable feeling. The local guides at the glass factory and brewery were excellent.

The crystal glass factory was very interesting but also distressing in terms of the work environment. The lack of safety equipment was astonishing to us. Brewery was also interesting but I would pass on this trip. The guides were very knowledgeable and the van was very comfortable but the trip wasnot memorable.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Prague. Our driver was fantastic and quite knowledgeable and taught us about the history of the region the entire way. The brewery was outstanding I even was able to purchase glass mugs with my name etched on them and the Ruckl factory was great, with even greater prices in their factory store.

Really enjoyed our day trip to the Bohemian Glass Factory and Pilsner Brewery. Our guide, Peter, was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Really comfortable van that transported us from Prague to each of our tours. Enjoyed both tours and seeing some of the local countryside. Also really great way to buy the bohemian glassware and crystal. Much much cheaper buying it from the factory shop than from the stores in Prague. The price for the trip also included a nice two course meal at one of the local restaurants.

Our guide picked us up at the hotel and was an excellent driver. Czech traffic is difficult to navigate and there was a lot of road/tram construction taking place. The glass factory was most interesting because we were able to be on the floor where the glass cutting/etching was taking place. The tour included the complete cycle from beginning to finished product. We had lunch in Plzen included and then toured the brewery. The tour was well organized and there was tasting at the end. Everyone said the beer was really good.

This tour gave us pleasant moment. My kids were very interested in this unique experiences._br/_ Guide was very kind and I was satisfied very much. Just one comment is that with more detailed and attractive explanation, it would have been more wonderful in glass factory.

Very nice tour! _br/_ Complimentary hotel pick-up was a great start to the morning. _br/_ We drove out to the glass factory first. Our driver was the guide and was pretty knowledgeable about all the facts. It was very interesting to see the working conditions, furnace room, cutting machines. The tour isn't in a roped off area so I wouldn't recommend it for small children who like be defiant and roam around. _br/_ Then we went to lunch at the brewery's factory options: traditional Czech pork, chicken, or veggie rice. _br/_ Lastly, the brewery itself. Tour was led by a brewery employee. Got to see the bottling plant, brewing area, and underground tunnels. The tour is the only place you can get Pilsner Urquell's unfiltered beer, straight from the barrel - which made the tour pretty cool.

The woman who was the tour guide was an older lady that spoke fairly poor English. She was difficult to understand. I think tours such as this need to be conducted by younger people who have been brought up with English as their second language. The bus driver was DANGEROUS - constantly texting, talking and with his hands, reading text, talking to the guide that sat adjacent to him, etc. In my country, Canada, 'distracted driving' is a punishable, criminal offence. This particular driver was distracted to the point of driving dangerously. In addition, there was a lot of road construction between the Glass factory and the Brewery and it took approximately an extra hour to go from one to the other due to construction. I wondered why the driver was not aware that the freeway was under construction and that there were such extensive delays. Alternatively, he perhaps could have taken some secondary highways or alternate routes so we were not stuck on the highway, basically sitting, for over an hour. I, as well as others, did not feel safe nor that I was in good hands with that particular driver._br/_ The Glass Factory was very interesting as was the Brewery, however, I would not recommend this company.

Glass factory was interesting to see the hand crafted crystal however the glass blowing demonstration was underwhelming and the gift shop was so busy we ended up not buying anything although a good price . Pilsner tour was well done would recommend to anyone although expect large groups.

This tour is controlled more by the sites you visit. At the glass factory we were teamed up with a group of Nordic folks, so there was very little English translation provided - a disappointment. At the brewery we had an English guide and were able to see the production line and warehouses. Our guide from the agency provided some overview of Prague, and answered our questions while traveling.

Review by:   Jeffrey T,    October 2014 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
While the Glass and Brewery parts of this tour were great, our guide was useless. We were told no history of Prague just her own personal lifestory! Lunch was supposed to be a choice of dishes but it was obvious that this was not passed onto us as she decided what she wanted to eat and ordered for us all. It was the worst meal we had in 7 weeks touring. Trying to find the driver after lunch was interesting as she didn't know where she was even though it was the same route we took after being dropped off.

The glass factory tour was very interesting and informative. We also loved the shopping there. The prices were incredible compared to the USA. The brewery tour was also great. We had a chance to see how the original Pilsner is brewed. We were able to sample very fresh beer that is only available on this tour. Excellent!!!

Taking into account what you see in prague, all the amazing things made of glass, this tour is really boring and does not match what I had in mind. The tour itself may last 20 minutes, is just standing in the different work stations. The brewery was fun and the beer excellent!

We enjoyed the tour and the guide was very informative. The only slight complaint would be the choices offered for our lunch. We would have liked to chose from the menu rather than being given 3not very exciting choices. We would have been willing to pay extra for this option.

This was a wonderful tour and the best brewery experience we have had. Learning about the glass blowing was brilliant. The brewery tour takes you into the working brewery so you can see and taste how everything works.

Glass factory was a bit of disappointment because of the state of equipment and buildings. I was expecting something else I guess. But still it was interesting to watch how things are being produced and also we had really wonderful guide. However, I had the feeling that employees are a bit annoyed by tourist taking pictures all the time, but that is just how it works there._br/_ Visit to Pilsner was a big contrast to that! Modern equipment, high standards, mass production and glass of really good beer at the end. Again amazing guide, very knowledgeable and nice._br/_ After that we had nice lunch and headed back to Prague.

Both the places were worth a visit - but more interaction with the workers at the glass factory would have been wonderful - without disturbing their routine. They are artists working in a factory circumstance , each ones job as important as the next - all are involved in the act of creation . This would add more interest. Also as we went thru the country side more information about the history, culture, farming practices, lives of the people would have been good. I learnt very little about the country though we travelled a fair distance.

Years ago I visited the Corning Glass Factory in New York where I saw their modern glass blowing techniques. I was quite impressed with this tour since the process is accomplished in a much more traditional manner with brick ovens. If I did not already have a large glass/crystal collection, I would have bought many pieces at the shop as their prices are fantastic. We also visited the Pilsner Urquell Brewery where you view a movie about the history of the brewery and can tour their operations. In addition, we went into the cellars where they aged the beer in large wooden barrels. We were also able to taste the beer straight from the barrel. It went down very smoothly. We enjoyed the tour and our guide was very nice.
