Punta Cana Full-Day Dune Buggy Adventure to Lemon Lagoon Bay

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Hop aboard a dune buggy for a full-day adventure and experience the best Punta Cana has to offer! Drive your manual transmission dune buggy through rice fields and along Playa La Vacama. Share your 4-passenger buggy with another party or keep all the driving to yourselves (depending on which option you select). Enjoy refreshments plus lunch at Hotel La Cueva at Lemon Lagoon, where you can relax before a short guided horseback ride along the scenic beach. Receive personal attention from your guide on this small-group tour, limited to 12 people.

After being picked up from your Punta Cana hotel, you'll receive brief safety instructions and rules from your knowledgeable guide. Then, jump inside your dune buggy and get ready to start the adventure of a lifetime!
With original VW engines and a stick-shift transmission, these vehicles have amazing speed and agility. Whether or not you choose to share the driving of your 4-person buggy with another party, you’ll enjoy an unbeatable adventure through 115 miles (190 km) of rugged interior in the Dominican Republic.
Start your journey by driving to Uvero Alto, a famous beach town on the northeast side of the island. From there, you'll head inland towards Nissibon, passing workers in the rice fields tending to their crops. On the way, stop at a typical Dominican colmado (grocery store) for a refreshing soft drink.
Then, steer through Playa La Vacama and drive approximately 9 miles (15 km) on a secluded, palm-fringed beach. Feel free to jump off your dune buggy and take a refreshing swim in the ocean to cool off! Afterward, drive over to Lemon Lagoon, where you'll be served a delicious lunch at the Hotel La Cueva.
You’ll have some free time to enjoy the hotel facilities before your guide leads your small group on a scenic, 10-minute horseback ride along the shore of the gorgeous beach. Afterward, jump back in your dune buggy and make your way to Zadanja for another stop at a colmado. Enjoy a soft drink, snack and quick visit with the locals before driving back to the Punta Cana area where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.

Please note: dune buggies have manual transmissions and operate with a 4-speed stick shift. No training is available and drivers must know how to drive a manual transmission.

This was an amazing day! Lots of driving through about every terrain. Lots of stops and food! You won't go hungry!. You definitely need to be a confident standard driver! Those buggy's can move and you get highway, in town, off road, mud etc. Very scenic views and local stops and a few amazing beeches! It would be cool if they had a map of the tour you take so you can see where you have gone. Other than that this was the best excursion we've ever been on! I would do this again in a heartbeat!!!!

Second time doing this tour;not same since the guide Mark left! The guide we had was very unpatient and rushing us at every stop we made barely had time to take pics! Also almost no explanations about the areas;and they also bumped up the price with $30 since last year!no value in this tour anymore

This trip includes it all. You get some highway cruising, some beach-front driving, several miles through a palm grove along a secluded coastline, and a run through a fairly muddy and pothole infested jungle trail which the buggies make easy work of. You also get several snacks and a traditional lunch at a jungle hotel, a horeseback ride where they open up fresh coconuts for you to drink from, and to see a very secluded family's way of living far away from paved roads. The driving pace was quicker than I expected which was a pleasant surprise, but by no means reckless. You should be fairly confident in driving a standard as the description says, but only one person per buggy has to drive. Overall this is among my favorite day trips ever. You will get very dirty. You will have a very good time. HIGHLY recommend.

Have to say......BEST experience of our trip!!!!!! we got to experience Punta Cana and the lifestyle in a true form. The description does not do this excursion justice. We drove on highways, beaches, back roads, villages. You name it, we did it. Got to drive our own buggy. Guide was insightful, warm, and shared all he knew about the culture of Dominican republic with us. We got muddy so prepare for this. My husband drove but I had the time of my life. Would rate this a 10 star adventure. Would do it over and over if we come back. Worth every penny spent.

We had an absolutely wonderful time. It was so much fun to be driving all throughout the Dominican Republic countryside. We stopped at this incredibly beautiful hotel minutes from the beach, in the middle of nowhere and had a great Dominican lunch. We got totally covered in mud on the way. We loved that it went to not touristy areas. We got to see Dominican life and how beautiful the country is. Would totally do another tour with the tour group.

Charlie was great and the tour was easily the most fun tour I've done in a long time! Given we've been marooned on our resort until this trip, it gives a good perspective of what the DR is really like. If you take one thing away from this review, it's that you should not bring clothes you care about. You WILL get mud everywhere and it's unavoidable now matter how good a driver you think you might be. Even though it's mentioned in the tour info, be sure someone in your group is comfortable with driving a manual transmission...my buggy had a fussy tranny as it gave me a fair bit of trouble downshifting and I've been driving stick daily for 15 years. Charlie instructed his guy to check it out as soon as we got back, but I was stuck with it for the 100 miles. There are very reasonably priced photos available for purchase after the trip that get burned to CD I just need to find a DVD drive somewhere now.

It was awesome trip and fantastic beach. But, it was not easy for me to drive buggy and brake paddle was so stiff. I don and #39;t wanna recommend to short people because it and #39;s not adjustable seat.

Great Day!!!, very informative tour guide, Mark. We learned a lot about the culture and enjoyed the ride. Horseback ride was just a short 10 minute sit upon a horse eh. Great food, seeing the grocery store was interesting. I was quite nervous driving down highway in a dune buggy in traffic. But the whole tour was a great trip.

The best excursion ever! I would reccomend this to everyone! You will get really dirty (duh riding an open buggy) but worth every minute! Guides were fun and so informative. They showed us more than I ever expected; the real culture of DR. This is a must do if you are planning a trip! Thank you!!!

You get muddy and dirty but I LOVED it We went in late Jan 2015 We had lot to eat and at Hotel La Cueva was great. It was in the middle of nowhere amazing. We were able to swim in the ocean, horseback rideshort drank coconut water in ate coconut Charlie took a bunch of pictures and videos at the end of tour asked if we wanted them we would pay 20, no pressure. I took them even though I had my own camera and am I ever glad Charlie took some great pics. Would recommend this tour to everyone.

Review by:   Alex L,    October 2014 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
The whole idea of driving a dune buggy around the island sounds like fun! As it should be. But not with this company. The owner/tour guide (Charlie) is a weird 2-faced guy. He talks and smiles when the group is together, but when you're alone in your buggy, he's a creep. If you go over a small pot hole, he will stop in the middle of the street and scream at you like there's no tomorrow (he's always watching) And Lord forbid your machine stalls, you will wish you never left your resort. His rude attitude takes the fun out of driving a buggy. He's miserable and does not enjoy what he's doing. And when the group gets together again, he acts like nothing happened. This negative experience can, unfortunately, be the most memorable experience of your vacation. When I was in DR, I seen other company's that also offer dune bugging. Their machines are new and look like fun driving, and I'm sure they'll actually appreciate your business. The machines at this company are old spray-painted junk that feel like they're gonna fall apart any day now. Don't waste your money and time with this company, take it somewhere where you'll actually have fun and a positively memorable experience. Don't make the same mistake we did.

We did the full day Dune buggy adventure with Charlie and his crew back in 2012. Loved it so much we came back in July 2014 and brought my 8 year old son. You learn so much about the culture and see the way of life there. Love the countryside that we saw and the stop off and great food at Lemon Lagoon. Definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Punta Cana. Only dislike has nothing to do with the trip but how much the industrial roads have grown out in the countryside.

Words are not enough to describe the great time we had! (Need more than 300 characters to describe it). A visit to a small town store, great traditional lunch, horseback riding to "Lemon Lagoon", snacks and a stupendous tour guide left us breathless! I recommend it 100% Must take the tour again!

The guides were awesome and very knowledgeable. The day got a bit long and there was a lot of construction on the roads we went on so the view wasn't that great and lots of dust. When we actually got off the main roads it was great. The ocean view was amazing because there was no one else around. The horse ride was fun, even if you're a little scared of horses. The lunch was absolutely awesome, one of the best meals we had the whole trip.

If you want to truly see the Dominican Republic, this is HANDS DOWN, the way to go. You MUST be very efficient with a manual transmission and not afraid to drive somewhat aggressively. The locals do, so you can't be tentative about pulling out into traffic, passing, etc. You can also expect to be covered in dust and mud, depending on recent weather. The entire vehicle is open around you with only a floor board. The buggies perform great and are a lot of fun to drive. That being said, the trip from start to finish was outstanding. Due to construction and road closures, we travelled about 150 miles thru the day and saw so much of the interior...thru villages, towns, roads thru the backcountry, the mountains, etc. For an extra $20.00, you could purchase a cd of about 150 pictures taken by a great guide and that was well worth it. If you bring a camera, it must be water and dust proof. GREAT time..........Thanks Charlie and Karl!

We loved this adventure! Many firsts for me, and you really get to see some of this island away from the tourist/resort area. The owners and tourist guides were fun and friendly, definitely book early and full day.

We had a great trip on the Punta Cana Full Day Dune Buggy Adventure to Lemon Lagoon Bay. Our day started with a personal pick up in a dune buggy at our hotel, which drew many eyes and wonderment as to what we were doing. Our short trip back to the business our driver was very personable and she gave us some history of the area...after checking in and waiting for the others to arrive, we chatted with their mechanic and he informed us on the making of their dune buggy's and how they started in this business..Charlie and his wife were originally from Australia. We had a great ride through the country side, through small towns, out in the open country and along beaches. Stopping along the way to stretch and get a little sample of the towns... We had a very short ride on horseback to the beach and back...sampled fresh coconut milk and coconut meat, not what we are used to having here in the states. He went from cool morning to sunny afternoon to rainy late afternoon. We were soaked and muddy in the end. As they state wear old clothing as it will be more than likely ruined by the time you are finished...We were prepared so it was no problem. We purchased the photo disc and can say we were overjoyed by the pictures that Charlie captured as a remembrance of our tour. Thanks for the wonderful day!

This is the only dune buggy tour to take. After talking to some people in our resort, we were worried. They all complained that you are taken from one tourist trap to another and spend your whole day saying no and pushing people away that are trying to sell you everything under the sun.

This was such an unbelievable trip. This is not your regular dune buggy adventure for sure, Charlie was our guide and he was so amazing. He also educates you about the Dominican culture during your trip. Just a heads up, prepare to be dirty...really dirty but it was so fun! You will learn about culture, you will drive fast, and you will see different things. However, be sure you know how to drive a 5 speed if you want to do this, its quite moderate to advanced level of driving so be prepared. Overall, charlie and the dune buggies are fantastic! good if you have the need for speed.

This was a great adventure. I've never gotten so dirty or laughed so hard in my life. My new motto is "It's not fun if your not getting dirty!!!". We drove through the jungle along the beach, had a delicious native lunch, paddled a boat through a river to the ocean where we took a quick swim. These were just some of the things we did. It was a great adventure. The only downfall is the tourguide (as well as others taking the tour) smoked at the table while we were eating lunch. As I am not a smoker, I was very irritated by this. Consideration should be taken for the non-smokers and smoking should not be allowed at the table while eating.

Outstanding excursion!!!! It was the best we've ever taken!!! Our guide, Charlie, took us to places other tourists never see. We had fresh pineapple, a local gave each of us fresh coconuts, and we stopped in a little town for chocolate and root beer (all local). Oh, and the dune buggies were a blast!!!! The travel representatives at our resort told us that Extreme-Buggy was out of business but they are alive and well!!!! We were able to purchase a CD from them the Next day which had pictures and videos of all of us that Charlie took while taking us around the countryside. We ate lunch on china at a country hotel then kayaked to the ocean where we swam. It was an incredible day!!!!! Thanks so much Extreme Buggy!!!!!

It was pouring rain. Mud everywhere! My husband and I had a very exciting ride. It was fun, felt like we were in a Jurassic Park movie. Cause of the rain, we had to cut the excursion short, the bridge was flooded and the rice fields were also. I do recommended trying to book it on a sunny day.

What a trip!! This trip rates one of my best days of my life. This trip is a must trip to do whilst here in Punta Cana. We had so much fun from start to finish. Charlie our guide was very knowledgable and a laugh. He added an extra buzz to the day. We stopped off at a local shop and sampled some local produce and refreshments. Soon after we were back on the buggies, whizzing though the beautiful countryside. At lunch time we stopped at a hotel for a freshly cooked meal, where we relaxed and hosed ourselves down after a few large muddy puddles we had gone through. After lunch we exchanged our buggy's for a kayak or canoe, and we paddled our way slowly to the sea, and what a view of the sea we saw when it came into view. When we arrived at the sea we had a very refreshing dip, a coconut cutting and drinking demonstration. We left the kayaks and canoe's behind and climbed on board an ox and cart, which took us back to the hotel and our buggies. We're off again, more excitement as we passed the paddy fields. Sadly our day had to come to an end and we were dropped off at our hotel.

Excellent day out. This is by far the best excursion we have ever done. Would recommend to all age groups. Tour leader was a very nice and knowledge person sharing with others what isn't a job but a passion. Lunch at Laguna Limon was absolutely delicious one of the tastiest meals we had during our holiday. When we return to the Dom Rep this will be first thing on our list to do again. Be prepared to get dirty but all part of the fun of the day.

This was the best excursion ever!! It is a little pricey, but worth every penny! If you are looking for a more "real" experience, away from packed buses and boats with hoards of people, strangers, doing things in groups rather than exploring things on your own, this trip is for you! It was the tour guide, my husband and I in our own buggy, and another couple in their own buggy, so just 3 of us. We went out into the "real-life" areas and saw real neighborhoods and how people of the area really live their day to day lives. We also went to a private beach area that truly was a piece of paradise!
