Iceland South Coast and Jokulsarlon Lagoon Day Trip from Reykjavik
USD $199.00

Iceland South Coast and Jokulsarlon Lagoon Day Trip from Reykjavik

Reykjavik, Iceland

Head out to the magnificent glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon, and follow in the footsteps of James Bond in "Die Another Day" and Lara Croft in "Tomb Raider". This exhilarating full-day excursion from Reykjavik takes you along Iceland's southern coastline, known for its exquisite mountain scenery.

Many of Iceland's biggest glacier rivers run into the Atlantic Ocean on the country's southern shore. Along the way to this amazing coastline you'll pass charming villages such as Selfoss, Vik and Kirkjubaejarklaustur, and the Skaftafell National Park; there is also a stop to visit the Skogarfoss waterfall. You'll also drive through the vast desert of Skeidarasandur, where sand storms can be so powerful they've been known to strip the paint off a car!

Just before you reach the lagoon, you'll pass Iceland's biggest volcano, Oraefajokull glacier, which also has the highest peak of the island, Hvannadalshnjukur, at 6950 feet (2119 meters).

At the lagoon you will have time to view this stunning area before taking a boat ride. But these are no ordinary boats! They are capable of driving short distances as well as sailing on water - something quite unique!

Jokulsarlon lagoon started to form in the early 1920s, and is growing bigger every year. You will see blocks of ice that have broken off Europe's biggest glacier, Vatnajokull, and are sailing slowly towards the ocean, which is only a mile away. Some of the icebergs are partially covered with volcanic ash from ancient eruptions, and look like sculptures, made by Mother Nature herself!

This was an amazing day. We only had one day to spend in Iceland and this long day was a great way to see a lot in a little amount of time. The views outside the city were amazing from the black sand to the volcano mountains to the waterfalls. One of the highlights of the trip was definitely the glacier lagoon which was beautiful. The boat ride was great and not too cold which was nice. One thing to note was the bus driver was a little more aggressive than others we have had. This didn't bother us directly, but other tourists noticed it and some of the people he passed on the road a bicyclist in particular did comment on his driving. Aside from this, this trip was a great way to spend one day in Iceland.

Loved this trip. Wish we had started earlier or had more time to stop at one of the waterfalls earlier. Majority of the day trip was amazing!!We ended up seeing Seljalandsfoss at night which was a huge letdown because we couldn't really make it out in the dark with the measly lighting. Did my best to make it enjoyable by walking to it and behind it, but the beauty of it was dampered by it being at night and the photos were disappointing.

Such a beautiful tour and great, comfortable bus - with knowledgeable guide - Reina. The black sand beach with the icebergs had to be a highlight. Just spectacular - though a long day, was well worth it. We had 4 teens with us two boys aged 13 and two girls 15 - and when we thought the would be antsy during the day, they all said this day was their favorite part of the trip!

It's the worst tour. What can I say when I have booked and paid for the tour but the agents failed to pick us up for the tour. You rate it yourself - Gray Line Iceland.

Shocking experience to visit the Jökulsárlon Glacier Lagoon...there are no words to describe such dimensión of beauty and odd._br/_ Iceland is like Mars...the mountains seem to raise like trolls and the combination of ice, volcanos and lack of people in general take you as a visitor to unknow emotions of bliss.

If you take only one tour while in Reykjavik, this has to be the one! It is a very long tour but there were lots to see! The waterfalls were amazing we went to one at night but still visible. Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is a fantastic sight.

A good trip. However I feel that in winters they could manage time a bit better. It was absolutely dark when we were shown the waterfall while we were returning from Jokulsarlon, which I felt could have been shown while we were going.

Long day but well worth it-the last stop at night for the waterfall was kind of useless

This was an amazing tour. The Glacier Lagoon and the Black Sand beaches can't be beat. We also stopped at some gorgeous waterfalls along the way. It's a long day, but I still wish we had more time at the Lagoon and the beach. The guide was very knowledgable.

The tour travel distance and time is nearly 800 km and 10 hours . Too long for a day trip . Furthermore, The time for each attractions is not calculatedly suitable so I can't enjoy the site . For example, The time for spend for Glacier Lagoon is 1.5 hours and Waterfall only 25 minutes . The bus stopped for Black Sea at no sunshine so i cant recognize what is the difference between black sea or white sea at that time

The lagoon is great though the trip is quite long and you only get to see the lagoon and the 2 waterfalls. You’ll arrive at the last waterfall in the evening so its colder and less light.

A very long excursion which I'm sure is hard to do in any case, but there are enough stops along the way to get out of the seat. The sightseeing is amazing, and the driver and guide were wonderful. The driver had his hands full with the crosswise winds. I could suggest to Viator to break this up into a couple of days for more leisure time along the way. I would never have suspected Iceland was so big until I was starting to plan to get to the glacier lagoon.

Even though it's a long day, it's well worth it. Scenery is incredible. Stopped to see a couple of waterfalls before heading out to see the glacier and the lagoon. It was amazing! Probably my favorite experience in Iceland.

This tour is jam packed and actually a little tiring 14 hours!. I think for my experience it was because we were on a big coach bus with 50 people. A small tour would mean less time spent at each stop, fewer bathroom breaks needed, and more time to actually enjoy the elements. The boat ride in the Glacier Lagoon is 100 worth it - so if you're deciding between two tours, definitely get on the boat. It was raining most of the day and visibility on the lagoon was low, so we didn't actually see the glacier...just the icebergs, but it was still so worth it. The bathroom break after the lagoon was an unnecessary waste of 20 extra minutes, which meant we missed the last waterfall stop. Again, if you can book for a small tour group that would be even better for this particular tour as there's so much to cover and 50 people getting on and off the bus, going to the bathroom, ordering food, etc, takes twice as long. Only thing I would change. Tour guide was Icelandic and gave a lot of good information - some standard that you'll hear on any tour, but much more than non-native guides will know.

The trip was amazing. However I was disappointed by VIATOR overcharging for this trip. I paid for this trip 198 and VIATOR is not tour operator. Gray Line Iceland is. The same trip by Gray Line Iceland was priced at 165. Unfortunately I got mislead by VIATOR low price guarantee add. For me is to late to get decent price. However I would advise others check prices before booking. By the way this trip included boat trip.

The glaciar lagoon is out of this world and well worth the trip and two stops at stunning waterfalls. Grey Line was a big production and I enjoyed the tours with smaller local operators more. We were on a big bus with a very competent driver - we got to where we were going smoothly. However he wasn't very friendly and I found our guide on this trip to be monotone with more general information on Iceland and not as much on where we were and what we were seeing.

not too exciting the boat on glacier lagoon itself was only 30minutes and rest of time was spent driving

The Lagoon is amazing, very beautiful. The tour was quite long for 14hrs, pretty rush for restroom and break time, take long time to reach the glacier lagoon. But it worth it. be prepared to dress warm because it's super cold

The terrain was beautiful, and the lagoon was awe inspiring! I would recommend this for anyone wanting to experience the different regions of this magnificent country. I gave it a 3 because it was very difficult to understand our guide. I believe in a one-on-one situation she can make herself look nderstood however I was so disappointed that I could barely understand her. It was difficult for me to decide if she was speaking English or French!

A very long day with lots of bus time, but the Jokulsarlon Lagoon was worth it! It's something that has to be seen to be believe.

This tour was very interesting and included much more than the visit to the Jokulsarlon Lagoon. Along the way we saw some stunning waterfalls, a black sand beach and the lagoon. The lagoon looked like a movie set with ice bergs floating all over the place.

We had an incredible time on this tour! I never thought I'd have a chance to see a glacier in person and ever get to hold a precious piece. Our tour guides were wonderful and informative. We made other stops at incredible waterfalls that took your breath away. The tour was conducted in English and made it perfect for us to understand about the island and its culture. Don't miss out doing this tour when you are in Iceland. It is a once in a lifetime experience.

This is a good tour. You spend a lot of time on a coach but the scenery when you do stop is worth it. There is a lot to see from the coach also. It give you a good feel for Iceland.

Review by:   Tom F,    November 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The tour was really rushed. It did not help that it was pouring rain. Better weather would have helped. I have taken a few tours on Viator in Iceland. This time, they booked through Grayline. The difficulty was that a shuttle picked you up at the hotel and shuttled you to the main terminal for Grayline this took over an hour. It was a long day in the rain. We viewed one waterfall in the dark!!!

This was an amazing experience! It was great to have a knowledgeable guide and experienced bus driver. So many interesting sites! It rained very hard nearly the entire time we were on this tour, so we could rarely see outside our bus windows. The rain did let up just enough for us to take the boat out around the glacier when we arrived at Jokulsarlon. We had our two boys with us and both were sick for a portion of the trip. The guide was knowledgeable but a bit bland, and for a 14 hour tour, you really need a guide with a fun personality especially if you can't see outside the windows for the bulk of the ride. One big negative is that these buses do not have restrooms on them. That wouldn't be a big deal except that they stop infrequently. They either need to stop more frequently or add restrooms.

Excellent tour but pls read the details carefully. This tour does NOT include the boat ride during the winter months which has been corrected. We were unaware of this, contacted Viator and their customer did an EXCELLENT job looking this and working with us through it. They have also updated their website since then for clarity. Honesty, I think this mistake came from the tour line itself and not viator.

This was a great day out! I was pleasantly surprised to find that we were making the tour in a small group of 9, travelling in a comfortable mini bus, rather than in a coach party as I had expected. The down side was that I thought I had paid for the tour including the boat trip but was informed by Grayline that it did not-it cost another 75 to buy two boat tickets at the lagoon. Beware-just because the description says the boat trip is not included in April, apparently does not mean that it is included the rest of the year.! The journey was great as our driver/guide Jakob kept us entertained and informed about everything we passed. He even sang us an Icelandic lullaby on the way home. At the lunch stop, buy a sandwich and walk across the road to climb the track closer to the glaciers-you can sit in a cafe anywhere. The lagoon was beautiful and the nearby beach where the icebergs float out to sea was the best part of the trip.

If you want to see beautiful glaciers lagoon then this tour is definitely worth it. But if you are expecting to see two beautiful falls with glaciers lagoon then this is not your tour. Actual tour was slightly different than descriptions. Do not expect to see everything what it says in tour overview

Although this was a VERY long day, it was totally worth it!! Jokulsarlon Ice Lagoon is truly magical and made the effort to get there worthwhile. The guide was very knowledgeable which helped to pass the time on the journey. Try to sit on the drivers side of the bus to get the most out of the magnificent scenery.

A good experience. The tour guide was incredible and full of information and stories she shared during the tour. The stops were somewhat short but expected considering the length of the trip. The bus was nice but could have been better with reclining seats for such a long trip. All-in-all a really good trip and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Iceland having a day to spare.

Very poorly planned excursion. Very disappointing. We me, my wife, and two friends waited to be picked up in the hotel lobby Hilton Hotel Nordica at our scheduled pick up time. We waited and waited and no one came. Then we were told by the hotel valet person that a driver from the tour group came in to the lobby very quickly .....didn't see us and then just left. We thought Viator was going to pick us up but it was another tour company that Viator subs out...Greyhound Tours. No one told us. The hotel concierge made numerous calls to the travel company and finally was able to get a person from the tour company to come to the hotel in his personal vehicle and pick us up. He drove us to the parking lot of a gas station and we had to wait for 20 minutes for the tour bus to turn around and pick us up. The tour director from greyhound was very rude. The tour which lasted for 12-14 hours was supposed to include a boat ride on the Blue Lagoon which was many hours away on the other side of the island. When we got there we were told last minute that the boat ride was cancelled due to the rain. So instead of leaving and maybe spending some additional time at another site or attraction at the request of everyone on the tour the tour director/guide was very stubborn and insisted that we remain at the Blue lagoon site for the entire scheduled time over an hour and sit / stand in a very small uncomfortable gift shop boiling hot and wait for an hour. What a waste. Most of the tour and I mean most of the tour consisted of gas station stops for restroom breaks and coffee. This was a total waste of our short time in discovering Iceland......and a total waste of our money.....it wasn't cheap.
