Tijuca Rain Forest Jeep Tour from Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Hop in an open Jeep for a morning tour of the Tijuca Forest in Rio de Janeiro, also known as Tijuca National Park. This section of Brazil’s Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) offers panoramic views from Vista Chinesa (Chinese View). Your 4-hour eco-tour includes an easy hike with a guide, giving you the chance to spot monkeys, birds and butterflies — even sloths! You'll be amazed by the remarkable contrast of a tropical rainforest right at the edge of a big city.

After your guide picks you up from your hotel in Rio, hop in an open Jeep and buckle up for a fun ride! Drive to the edge of the cityscape and enter Tijuca Forest, located just 10 minutes from the city center. You’ll hear about the important reforestation program of Tijuca National Park and learn the importance of the Mata Atlântica ecosystem — part of the vast and protected Mata Biosphere Reserve, which covers 14 states in Brazil.

During your 4-hour Jeep tour through the rainforest, you'll have many spectacular photo opportunities, with stops at Emperor's Table and Mayrink Chapel. At Vista Chinesa, capture sweeping views of Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, Guanabara Bay and even as far as Niteroi.

En route, disembark for a short eco-trek lasting approximately 15-30 minutes, following an easy trail with your guide. Walk to the crystal-clear cascade of Cachoeira dos Macacos and pass the picturesque waterfalls of Cascatinha. You’ll find there’s no better way to experience the living rainforest and marvel at the wildlife to be found!

At the end of your Jeep tour, you’ll be dropped off at your Rio de Janeiro hotel.

It was great to see the forest by open top jeep and the tour guide was awesome, very knowledgable! I would have liked to have more time in the forest.

We had a blast on this excursion. The group was so diverse - Spanish speaking, English speaking both the American and the England kind - inside joke with driver, and French. Though we could not all speak the same language, our guide spoke all 3 and made sure to translate and include everyone in the conversation. The hike was easy and the sites beautiful. But, I recommend you take enough water so you don't need to refill your bottle at the filtered station! Sunscreen and bug spray are not to be skipped.

I enjoyed the tour. The guide was punctual and picked us up even from Barra da Tijuca hotels. The guide spoke good english and took us trekking as well so that was very cool. They allowed us enough time wherever we wanted to stay a bit more and were very flexible and friendly. I recommend this tour

Great fun riding in an open-top vehicle. Saw lovely waterfalls and had a very enjoyable walk through the rain forest. A very good and knowledgeable guide kept us informed and amused.

First problem was as a handicapped person I walk with a cane there was no step to get into the jeep. It took about 10 minutes before we figured out if the pulled up to the curb that would work. After that, however, I was unable to get out of the jeep at the stops it made which was very disappointing. I was able to sit in the front seat that gave me more leg room but I was unable to hear anything the guide said. The driver did try to point out good places for me to take pictures from the jeep but all in all it was not at all enjoyable. The driver drove very fast on very curvy and not well maintained roads and although the tour was advertised as 4 hours it lasted less than 3 1/2 hours.

A very interesting tour, excellent tour guide (Daniel) who pointed out things of interest along the way and showed great knowledge and passion for the forest and its history. I don’t remember the driver’s name, but she did a great job of managing the vehicle over the the challenging roads.

Really enjoyed this trip with an excellent guide. Nice to get out of the city and into the beautiful rainforest. A little disappointed that we didnt see more animals saw a few small monkeys but that is the way it is with wildlife! Would recommend this tour.

I enjoyed this half-day hike through the Tijuca rain forest because it allowed me to see another dimension of this amazing city. In the hills above the gridlock traffic and chaos of the city lies a magnificent forest with enormous trees and endemic flora. On the drive in to the forest, we stopped at a gazebo that had a nice panorama of Ipanema and Leblon. We then saw a nice waterfall. We then did a hike not too strenuous of about 1-2 miles through the forest. I forgot to spray the backs of my hands with insect repellant and got some bites from unidentified insects so I recommend that you not neglect to spray the backs of your hands with repellent. The guide was friendly and had a good sense of humor.

Good fun, but don't need a jeep since all the roads are paved. Interesting history of the park, but don't expect to see many animals.

I like nature so this was a good tour. I took great pictures of Rio at different stop points. Small group, but had fun with them throughout. You have a walking tour, you learn some things about some of the trees that was interesting. A nice waterfall, small museum, and a little church was included on the tour. I would recommend. I took great pictures of Rio at different stops.

The rainforest was a lot more tourist friendly than I had expected, so if you're looking for a more exciting trip into the rainforest you might want to pick a different one. The tour guide was great though and tried to make it as interesting as possible. We got to see the tiny monkeys and some beautiful butterflies.

It's really a Jeep Tour only to some viewpoints in the Tijuca Rain Forest for making photos_br/_ and getting some info from guide while driving._br/_ Only on street, not offroad, no walking, no jungle feeling._br/_ Tour started 1 hour too late reason unknown.

This tour was a joke it was not a hike but a little walk through a wooded area. No wildlife seen. Nothing. Not worth the money at all.

After a rocky start because our Jeep did not pick us up, it turned out to be a most enjoyable ride. Gabriel and Maria could not have been more informative and accommodating. We were disappointed in the lack of bird life, but the forest was beautiful.

Fun tour with a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide! He spoke English well, which was a plus for my wife who doesn't speak Portuguese. The guide and driver were always on the lookout for wildlife as we drove through the forest, which helped us to spot animals we probably would have missed otherwise.

We had such a great time on this trip overall. The tour guide and the driver were both kind, courteous and very entertaining to the group. Honestly, this tour is less an half a day. You really only spend 10-15 minutes in each of the 4 stops made on the way. Beautiful but you sort of expect more for a half day tour. Either way, Tijuca is nice quick half way tour that is worth experiencing.

The rain forest was very large and beautiful. Since it was winter there weren't as many colorful flowers and plants as I would have expected, but overall it was a great tour. We got to walk around, plenty of time for pictures and beautiful views of Rio.

We were VERY pleased with this tour, as they showed up slightly early and waited 10 minutes while we finished breakfast. The guide and the driver were very friendly and accommodating. We learned a lot of local history and culture as we made our way through the city and into the Tijuca Forest. We will highly recommend this tour for any friends that may be visiting in the future.

Tour was overated, hour hike was a ten minute walk to a picnic area, you are basically paying to drive up and drive back down. Just get a taxi, much cheaper and you will have time to explore!

This tour was great! Our tour guide David was amazing. He is very knowledgeable about the Rain Forest and was able to answer just about every question. This tour is great for amazing pictures of the city. During our tour we were able to learn about the Rain Forest, got amazing panoramic pictures of the city, were able to see a beautiful water fall, encountered numerous monkeys and other animals. I would definitely recommend this tour to nature lovers and those that want amazing pictures.

This is also a tour not to miss. We may not have seen any wild life, however it was a lovely sunny day to have a drive around Rio tropical area, feeling the wind in your hair!_br/_ Our guide His name was something like Honoratas....sorry if that's not right. was informative and helpful.Whether getting out of the jeep or stepping off large stone steps during our small hike around Tijuca. The first restroom i used could have been better, take your own wet wipes! A most enjoyable day though.

so its really not a rain forest, but seeds from a real rainforest deep into the country. it felt rain forest like because of how misty and foggy it was. the tour guide was helpful and sweet, dominique, and made us feel very welcome. We had one view, the chinese view, but it was too foggy to have a view that day. we also so a toucan, and a few monkeys that day.

The jeep tour of the Tijuca rainforest was enjoyable but more affordable if arranged locally. Stops at the impressive Chinese viewpoint and Taunay Falls were complemented by two short hikes thru the forest. However, little wildlife was seen one capuchin monkey, a few coatis and birds. The open top of the jeep was appreciated for viewing. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, even arranging a following tour to a favela on the fly.

Our guide spoke English well. We were disappointed that the scenic view stop--called the Chinese View locally, was not available because the road was closed due to a bicycle event. The tour operator did not know about this ahead of time. To try and make up for it, the guide brought us to Sao Conrado beach for Acai smoothies which we paid for ourselves. If this viewpoint is not available, there are no high point scenic views on this tour. There is one average, but pleasant waterfall. It is mostly a pleasant, cooler, and quiet moment away from the din of the city, and it is interesting to drive through the city in the open air jeep.

If you enjoy hiking and nature this is the tour to take. We did not see any wild animala because it was to hot and they don't come out when it's hot. The water falls are amazing and our tour guide Milena was funny, knowledgeable and spoke several languages

Aside from the pick up being an hour late, the tour was very good. There was a nice mix of guided exploration and independent exploration. Tour guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable. He made an effort to engage with all members of the tour group.

Jeep ride was really nice to do in the Rio de Janeiro heat, also the scenes we visited were nice. The Eco hike was only a stroll through the forest though which took us about 10 minutes, that's it. Would have loved to see a little more of the jungle all in all and maybe some more animals we saw monkeys but the guide didn't point out or talk about any other animals, but it was ok and our guide was very nice, funny and spoke good English. Can recommend it.
