Discover the beauty and charm of La Jolla and the San Diego coastline on this 2.5-hour bike tour. Suitable for most biking abilities (some experience is recommended), the tour takes you from the top of Mt Soledad with its panoramic views down to the cliffs of La Jolla and the surf breaks of Pacific Beach. See La Jolla’s local seals and tide pools, enter one of the sea caves and learn about the marine life and protected shoreline from a local naturalist guide.
Meet your guide at the local bike tour office in La Jolla, where you’ll be fitted for a Bianchi hybrid bike. Then hop in the tour vehicle for the short drive to your starting point at the top of Mt Soledad, the highest coastal peak in the San Diego area.
Admire the 360-degree view of the city and coastline, and then strap on your provided helmet and take off, zooming down the mountain as fast (or as slow) as you want. Ride about 3.5 miles (5.5 km) toward the ocean, soaking up La Jolla’s quaint atmosphere and picturesque scenery.
When you get to the coast, stop at La Jolla sea caves, where you can hop off your bike and enter the only cave accessible by land, Sunny Jim’s, reached by a tunnel known as the Cave Store. Then head to the Children’s Pool and seal beach to check out the town’s famous harbor seals. Enjoy a stunning photo op from the 100-foot (30-meter) bluffs overlooking La Jolla Cove and Ecological Reserve, and take a look at the marine life in the tide pools.
Continue your bike tour by pedaling south to San Diego’s popular surf breaks at Pacific Beach and Mission Beach. Then head back to your starting point via quiet back roads, soaking up the laid-back ambience of San Diego’s beach communities.
Total biking distance is approximately 10 miles (16 km); the pace is not strenuous and the terrain is mostly downhill or flat, but you will pedal over a few short hills (you can get off and walk if needed).
You can admire the sea views of La Jolla while riding the bicycle and enjoying the sunshine and wind. What you can see is the sea shores of La Jolla, the sea seals and sea lions lying near the beaches, and the secret tunnel where the smuggling of alcohol took place in the past.

What a nice, leisurely bike ride. Yes, a bit of it was spent in residential neighborhoods, but those are the areas I would never get to see otherwise. The end of the tour is spent near the water, which was fun! It was a beautiful day and an enjoyable bike ride. PS - I only had to walk my bike up a hill once!!

Not enough coastal scenery the tour is mostly through residential neighborhoods. You're not on a bike path, but amidst traffic, sometimes dangerously so.

A great experience. We saw the highlights of La Jolla from our bikes. It was mostly downhill. Our guide was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The noon tour is the best, as any marine layer is dissipated by then. Beautiful homes, ocean views and of course, the sea lions._br/_ Recommend doing this if you want a fun time.

Beautiful ride from Mt. Soledad through La Jolla. Cory has an amazing wealth of knowledge about the sights as well as interesting stories that made the trip even more fun. Even people outside of our tour were listening to him talk about things we were seeing and came over to listen as he spoke. Incredible way to see the La Jolla coastline and pass by the La Jolla coves. Lots of great photo opps. My guide had a great background on the areas and stops which really added to the experience. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area! Also worth noting, I had a minor issue with booking since I made the reservation later the day before and Viator was extremely quick and helpful is resolving with the vendor so I could participate.

The actual bike tour was pretty good - and an excellent way to experience the coastline - once it actually got started. But when we arrived, about 15 minutes ahead of time just like they ask us to, we were informed that others in the group were running late so we were going to wait for them. I asked how long it might be, they said oh about 45 minutes. In the end it was almost 90 minutes before we actually got going on the tour. That is completely unprofessional. There was no notice given to us nor any consideration extended for delaying our schedule by so much time._br/_ I enjoyed the bike ride, but I wouldn't book this tour again. There are plenty of other tour companies.

The tour was awesome and out guide was very informative. Viator does not have updated timing slots so it is recommended to check their actual website which is again difficult to find here but google should do it. Ended up as a private tour but snacks and admin to la jolla cave didnt happen. Do it.

Tour was great! The view is amazing and we came back to Mt. Soledad in the evening to watch the sunset. If you are thinking about a bike tour, this is the one to take! For most of the way, you just have to work the brakes. There were a few small inclines. The tour guide told us to downshift for those, but I was doing much better just staying in gear and applying a little muscle.

I enjoyed my La Jolla Plunge bike tour. My tour guide was great and informative about the San Diego area. The views from Mt. Soledad were great.
